Just getting into pipes? Well, Pipe World has everything you need. I never felt pressure to buy beyond my means. Plus, there is wide variety of tobacco to choose from. I was looking to buy a safety razor earlier today and was happy to learn that Pipe World sells more than just pipes and tobacco supplies. They have a nice selection of shaving supplies too. I asked one of the folks working about buying a safety razor. I didn't get his name but he recommended the Conk DE Long Razor and Merkur Super platinum blades. He even gave me some advice on shaving with a safety razor after I told him that I'd never used one before. The razor plus blades came out to $32.96 after tax. Detailed review: I've been smoking pipes for over 30 years, and I've been to a lot of tobacco shops not only in Texas, or even in the United States, but all over the world. With the popularity of cigars within the past decade, pipe smokers have been turned into second-class citizens in the tobacco world as the profits are larger in cigars. This translates into pipe smokers feeling neglected, and with the lack of variety in tobaccos and declining stock of pipes in most tobacco stores, shopping brick and mortar tobacco shops has become more of a chore than the pleasure it used to be. Enter Pipe World. As someone who has smoked pipes for over three decades, I remember what it used to be like going to a tobacconist (what we used to call tobacco proprietors), and it was always a good time. Friendly banter, wide selections of both leaf and pipes, and always a sample to try something new. While this model has long been abandoned in favor of cigar lounges and cigar-centered stores, entering Pipe World, being greeted by their tobacconists, and seeing their wide variety of pipes and tobaccos is a revelation. Lighting up a tobacco with the proprietor was a pleasure, being able to discuss tobacco blends with someone who gets it. Edward Bulwar-Lytton is one smart fella and if he were around today he would know that at Pipe World you will not be buying pipe, visiting a pipe museum or certainly not "layin' the pipe" ! Here is the secret about Pipe World: THEY HAVE EXCELLENT AND REASONABLY PRICED CIGARS!! I like this shop because it is out of the way and off the beaten path. This is a place where I like to stop time at odd hours when I am doing my crosstown errands. What the hell is "stopping time" ?! Well nobody I know can actually "stop time" but sitting back and putting the phone on silent ring is the only way I know how to do it. Did I mention that this place called Pipe World has really great cigars, really good prices and a fine smoking lounge with really big and comfy leather chairs?! Well it does!! Good people and a laid back and non-haughty environment that is just simply a decent place for a man to grab a smoke and have some friendly conversation among his fellows. This place is a working man's kinda smoke shop. The selection of cigars here is awesome and reasonably priced. They carry nearly the full line up of CAO Cigars including Brazilia, Italia, Cameroon, and the full line up of even flavored cigars. At first I was VERY skeptical about the flavored cigars thing because I am thinking if you flavor cigars that you are trying to hide something or using bad tobacco. Not with CAO! They use Madagascar Vanilla and my fave called Moonstruck with uses a very unique blend of bourbon, vanilla, and some mild fruit essence to send it over the top. These cigars DO NOT STINK!! Good cigars DO NOT STINK! Pipe World also carries Macanudos and the purist in me loves their collection of Hoyo De Monterrey as well. The Hoyo De Monterrey collection holds my faves of the dark wrapper Dark Knight including my fave which has a dark Sumatra wrapper. Did you know that this cigar goes GREAT with a cup of Sumatran whole bean brewed coffee? WHO KNEW?! The reason I give this place 5 stars is because it is a place that is NOT over the top. Some cigar shops are too loaded with the hype and all the schwag. Pipe World is just a simple place where a man can pick up a few good smokes whether leaving town or getting back into town. And if you don't have time to spare to stick around to enjoy a cigar then you need to just do it anyway! Believe me, the world will wait and all the same good stuff, bad stuff and other bullshit will still be out there waiting for you. I do not smoke cigars very often, but when it happens I want to make it an event and enjoy "stopping time" for awhile. Nicotine is a damn good drug. I like it. Not that I have ever seen that type of thing here..its just that it MIGHT potentially happen here and that I MIGHT actually be the potential culprit of such an action. Just funnin!! No I'm not. You hipsters leave me to Pipe World and go hang out on South Congress! Smoking cigars is not a habit. Its a ritual. It's also for adults and in Pipe World kids are not allowed nor should they be allowed. They also do not sell tobacco to underage people. They follow the rules. And another great part about no kids in Pipe World is just that. There are NO KIDS in Pipe World so you don't have to tell them to turn down their music and get off your ash!! Umm,I mean lawn. Whatever. What former President Bill Clinton said about his youthful indiscretions and marijuana use also apply to cigar smoking. In other words you "don't need to inhale" to get the benefit of flavor and nicotine made from an all natural cigar which uses only aged, cured natural tobacco leaf. However, I cannot in any way condone some of his "other practices" which involved his cigar and a White House intern in a mythical blue dress. Its not that either of those flavors are bad, but just NOT together!! C'mon Bill!! Would you eat Slim Jim's while drinking orange juice?! Sheesh!! Get a breath mint,dude!! I love cigars and pipes. This is a great shop to pick up either one. For pipes I only use Peterson, they are amazing and have their signature P-lip. Try Ol' Henry it is my favorite pipe Tobacco and I love Ashton VSG's for my cigars. Also Ashton ESG, Fuente Fuente OpusX, Kristoff Original Maduro, Camacho 0705, Olivia Nub or V, La Aroma De Cuba, Gurkha, Rocky Patel Royal Toro, and La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero are my other favs. read more

Aside from the intolerable man the facility was average. It's seemed reasonably clean, although due to the incredulous service I was unwilling to further explore their selection. I really like this place and my only regret is that I don't get to come here more often. The workers are really nice and most are very knowledgeable about their products. They sell quite a few nice gift items for most men so if you are ever pressed for ideas then step inside. They have a nice smoking lounge too that is free (unlike some places) and one of my favorite experiences is shooting the breeze with some of the regulars that pop in there. I wanted to get my hubby a nice little Valentine's gift (or "MALE-ntines, as I called it, since he's getting a evening to himself while I go out with friends, & we'll celebrate properly tomorrow) and the guy at Pipe World totally hooked me up! My husband hasn't smoked his pipe in a while and his tobacco had all dried up, so I figured I'd get him some more. My knowledge of pipes and tobacco is scanty at best, but the fellow at Pipe World was happy to explain how many bowl-fulls 2 ounces of tobacco would be (about 12), how best to store it (in a sealable plastic baggie), what temperature & humidity to keep it at (72), and what some of the most popular flavors are and why. He even sold me a few little accoutrements, like cleaners and a water pillow and a little doo-hickey called a tamper. Now my hubby's all set for his evening of pampering (complete with Manwich, Doritos, and "Bad Grandpa" on DVD), and ready to light up with some sweet-smelling tobacco! I have been looking for a place that sells snus, specifically Swedish. I arrived and was able to find the snus near the counter which was refrigerated. I've enjoyed an occasion fine cigar for many years. I've been to all the local places (you pipe folks know them), but I never tried Pipe World because, well, they were called Pipe World. Turns out they also sell CIGARS! They have a superb selection of fine to very, very fine cigars, all competitively priced. They also sell fine seconds and bundles. Michael, Cale, Benjamin, Wayne, (I'm missing somebody), will give you advice you can't buy. There is no 'best' advice among them; they are all equally good. I've been going only to them for over two years now. Try the weekday lunch crowd, starting about 11:15 AM. From far left (you'll know him right away) to far right (not me). Bring an open mind and a thick skin. Always entertaining. Oh, for the Yelper who complained his tobacco is 3x what he pays online, just keep buying it online. Went here for the first one to buy some cigars as a gift. Since I am not well versed in cigars this was the perfect place to go. The two gentleman working inside were very knowledgable and helpful and not the lead bit snobby ! I say that because sometimes when entering a male dominated shop I have been treated not so well and that was not the case at pipe world. They asked my price range and made several good suggestions out of their large and filled room sized humidor. Great location(right by my apartment) Was looking for a Romeo RYJ and could not find it at a couple shops in the area. So, I tried Pipe World and they had it. Well stocked and clean shop. I used to like this place, but the past few times I've been in there, the staff treats you like you don't even exist. I don't want anyone hounding me while I'm there, but also would be nice if they could maybe offer a friendly hello, or at least acknowledge your presence somehow. I guess you have to look like you have a lot of money in order to be treated well there. I waited in line, waited some more, the clerk was helping someone else out and seemed to be more concerned with that than anything, almost got the feeling I was interrupting him. I understand short staffing, but maybe again, acknowledge someone and don't just have them standing there wondering what's going on. Save your sanity, time and money and go to SPECS instead. At least at SPECS they are friendly and don't give you the sense that you don't exist or are unimportant.
