Bobby's was definitely more affordable and they were able to complete the repair in just a couple of days while the other shops said they wouldn't even get to my car for a month or more. I wanted to share a recent experience that I had with a local automotive repair shop in the hopes that others do not fall prey to this tactic. In early August of 2024 my Chrysler Sebring developed an over heating issue on the way back to Smithville. I was close to Bobby's Automotive so dropped in to get an estimate and left the car for almost a week to have them develop an estimate for the repairs. When I returned to get the car I was told that the engine had a head gasket leak and it would be very expensive to perform the work but due to the extremely low mileage (53k original miles on a 2010 Chrysler Sebring Convertible)they offered to buy the car and offered right at $3K saying they could fix it at cost and resell it. I declined at that time and had the car towed home where it sat for several months while I debated the expensive repair. My son, a heavy equipment mechanic, said he would take a look at it. After about 15 minutes of looking at it he discovered that the issue was a clogged radiator. He replaced the radiator and there have been no further issues with the car. I have talked with other people who also had Bobby's, and other shops, offer to purchase vehicles after giving a bad news expensive estimate on their car problem. I am not suggesting that they are dishonest but it seems that a pattern is emerging. Please be cautious and get a second estimate before making a decision on an expensive repair that comes with an offer to buy your car. read more

Paul was absolutely honest & straight forward about my AC blower on my F-250. Another mechanic in Bastrop (not to be mentioned) told me it was my blower and not my relay. Paul ordered the part and quickly called me after I dropped off to tell me it WAS the relay. This changed my $1100 job to just a $145 job. Most mechanics would not have said anything and just replaced the blower but not these guys. They have always done us right and that's why they have earned our continued business. In my humble opinion, 5 stars are not enough for this business. I see a few negative reviews posted, and I'm stumped as to the true cause. 30 minutes after dropping off my car, they isolated the problem and called. Next day the part came in and the car was fixed. In fact, it runs better than it used to. This will be my mechanic from now on. As an aside, prior to visiting this shop, I called a 'need' auto shop that said it would be 4 days before they could work on my car, but indeed, for just $115 they could diagnose the problem. I had called them because a friend recommended going to another mechanic on hwy 71, only to find the shop closed during business hours and no one to answer the phone. The folks at Bobby's automotive are pleasant to talk to, fast and highly skilled. Look past the few odd negative comments and give them a try. You'll be glad you did. Anyone who knows me understands I do not give positive comments or praise when it is not deserved. read more

I am SO impressed by the work done at Bobby's Automotive. I was having issues with my car and took it to another local mechanic and they tried charging me for a bunch of unneeded work that totaled to over $6,000. After talking to some neighbors, they recommended we take it to Bobby's for a second opinion. I am so happy we did. I ended up only having to pay a little over $600 for the work needed to fix my car. Had interlock device installed in vehicle (smart start). Was seen during the appointment time, very friendly staff and respectful. No hassle whatsoever. Dishonest and unprofessional! Took my car in, they charged quite a bit to fix the problem, as I drove home, my car still had problem and stalled on highway. Drove straight back and he swore it drove like a new car but to bring back if same problem. Tried calling once I got home to discuss when I could bring back because I would have to make more money to further repair car and the business never answered my phone call again. Also oxygen sensor was cut off. And told me they put on machine and it was functioning perfect. Had another acquaintance tell me the same issue happened to them. Too bad more people do not rate the the problems I've heard about this business, I'd had chosen another company to use. Since, have gone to another mechanic and was told that Bobbies Automotive most likely did not use machine as there were very obvious problems. I guess my money wasn't nice enough for this company as i would've kept giving it to them to correctly repair my vehicle. Bobby's Automotive installed a rebuilt transmission in our truck 1 1/2 years ago. We have put less than 20 thousand miles on our truck and the transmission is slipping again. We took the truck back to Bobby's Automotive and the refuse to stand behind their own work and made excuses that the employee who did the intial work is no longer employeed and they do not know how many miles was on the truck at the time of the original installation. They were trying to charge $1,800 for a used transmission and $2,400 for a rebuilt transmission to fix their own poor workmanship from the previous installation. We are absolutely shocked from the lack of work ethis and professionalism shown by Bobby's Automotive. I DO NOT recommend taking your vehicle there. The do not honor or stand behind their work!!! read more

I do most of my own car work. About 50-75%. What I can't do, the only mechanic I'll pay out of my pocket, is the guys @ Bobby's Automotive.

I used them for replacing the alternator, starter, and several oil changes. My car needed to have the transmission replaced, and they agreed to do the warranty work. I paid $423.13 for the transmission work. #1. Shifter cable snapped off, car was tolled back to them by AAA. I paid $286.66 for new shifter cables & labor. #2. drove the car off the lot, made one stop at the store, and wasn't able to shift into any gears. My car was tolled back to them by AAA. #3. Picked up my car, parked car into garage, and couldn't shift car into reverse gear, had car tolled back to them by AAA. Each time costing me more money. I was still having and this time I decided to go to AAMCO. My car was missing two bell housing bolts. This is a big deal because the bell housing bolts holds the transmission onto the block. Also, I had to replace the air boot, pigtail, belt because there was damage to these parts from not properly removing and replacing the transmission correctly.. When it comes to any major auto repair use a shop that is known to do that type of auto repair. This was a very costly lesson for me to learn. I will use AAMCO from now on. read more
