I was referred to Bobby's Smog shop by a coworker. I was having issues with my vehicle that required immediate attention. They were able to get me in at the first open appointment. I dealt with Chris from the moment of drop-off up until pick-up and he was straightforward and very open with communication. They did a fair assessment and did not move forward with any repairs until I was consulted on the extent of it and how much it would roughly cost. They can get pretty swamped with work make sure you book an appointment. With the costs of things in this economy, I was expecting to pay an arm and a leg for repairs, but they were very fair with their pricing (depends on the issues of course). We have been using Bobby's Smog for over a decade. We have taken 4 different vehicles to him. We go there for SMOG. We currently have only 2 vehicles, but Bobby has smogged every vehicle we've owned since 2011. Most recently, he replaced my 8 spark plugs, one coil, and my EVAP purge valve. I called on Friday after 12. I was told to bring it in Monday morning. They expected everything to be done by end of day. I asked if I could pick it up on Tuesday. It's important to know that two weeks before, I took my car to a different for an oil change. I used a place that specializes in oil changes, I was specifically told that my spark plugs were fine. Bobby heard me relaying this information to Chris. He came out, said there was no way the other shop would have looked at the spark plugs, and then described the process involved in checking spark plugs. Had I taken it to Bobby's for the oil change, he would have seen the spark plugs, and any damage the coil had. We are not going to be using other shops for oil changes. We will be going to Bobby's for our oil changes from now on. My neighbor recently needed a smog. I directed her to Bobby's. She needed a repair, and Bobby took care of it for her. Took my corvette to Bobby thru the Cal Smog help program. State covers up to $850 for repairs, but after repair its required to pass again in 2 years. Bobby said I needed new cat converters, but instead he said he changed the ECM because it was 'bad'. When I picked up the car, it was clear my ECM had been painted black, over the factory stickers! I asked for my old one, but he said it had been 'excessed' already. He charged the state $845 to paint my ECM, when I just tried to smog it again, it failed miserably. I replaced all cat converters with correct California approved exact fit units for $600. It Runs perfect and smog numbers are way under allowable. Bobby could have done the right thing at the time but chose to pocket the states money and screw another customer. Do NOT go here for service! There are other approved smog shops in the area that do state approved repairs. read more

On May 30th, my husband's car had a problem. This was Memorial Day. We had to leave the car where it died. The next morning, I called Bobby's, discussed the problem. I asked for an estimate. He was reluctant to give one. I explained that I wasn't looking for an exact quote. I needed a number for budgeting. He was willing to do that and he gave me a very large number, and he and I both knew that it wouldn't be "that". Bobby was going on vacation, but he still managed to take care of my husband's car. I believe it was diagnosed and fixed in about 4 hours, but I could be mistaken. About three weeks later, there's another problem with my husband's car. This time, it was the alternator. I called in on Thursday. I made an appointment to drop it off on Monday, because they were really busy and didn't know if they would be able to get to it. I made a Monday appointment. My husband and I both thought the problem was just beginning. On Friday, I drove it to the grocery store, where it died. I talked to Kevin and asked if I could bring the car in or if I needed to have it towed home. Kevin said that there was no point in towing it to my house. I told him that I knew they had a small parking lot, and a busy day scheduled, and I wanted to be considerate of their needs. (Not an exact quote, but you get the idea.) Don't know what he did, but it didn't pass has and then if you look at the paperwork, I came right back and he's the one that got the brochure I sat there and watched him put down things that he did that he never did just to use up the money in the brochure that's real honesty.morning to get a $500 brochure at the fairgrounds just to come back and he did everything he could to use the brochure money, he left a little room so he wouldn't get caught Check the dates. He has worked on two air conditioners, both in a 94 truck and suburban for about 10 years which I have paperwork on and never repaired them just kept charging me more money. The last time he worked on my suburban I caught him ripping me off $300 and which once he knew he got caught, he wrote a check I don't care who you are. You are not gonna pay somebody $300 unless you did something wrong. Thanks to one of his employees. My son caught him rolling his eyes and whistling when he told my son how much the price was $450 to put Freon in my suburban which causes him about five dollars apound the car 2 pounds. when I actually looked at the bill because we've been friends I thought for over 45 years I about fell over I will close for now. He only replaced those items needed and didnt nickel and dime us for these items that disnt need to be replaced. His shop is busy but takes appointments. I came into Bobbys in a sort of emergency situation. My cars check engine light came on out of nowhere then stopped accelerating properly and shaking severely all within a 10 minute span. This was my first time ever having to take my car into an auto-repair shop so I went to Bobbys by recommendation of a friend and was not disappointed at all. 1. They had my car diagnosed within an hour. 2. They had my car fixed within a half hour of that. 3. They legitimately gave me EXCELLENT customer service. I was incredibly impressed with the personal attention each person gave to me. Every person in the building remembered my name each time I came in as I was in and out of the building because I live 2 blocks away and was taking care of business at the house. I'm not incredibly informed on pricing of these types of things but I felt the pricing was fair. If you're considering going here I'd recommend going before 2pm if you plan on just walking in based on what the person running the show expressed to me about their availability, otherwise making an appointment may be a good idea. Was advised by another mechanic I needed to replace my catalytic converter and was quoted MUCHO DINERO to replace the catalytic converter. At about the same time this was going on I received my DMV notice to get this particular vehicle smogged. I took it down to Bobby and told him what was going on. When it seemed as if everyone else gave up on trying to fix my Cadillac DTS, I went to Bobby. He was able to diagnose and fix my car very quickly. It was a simple fix (replaced no. 8 injector) and it didn't require a new engine as I had been told by other smog repair shops. The car runs great now and was able to pass smog. My car would not turn over so we figured it was an alternator starter issue. When the tow driver showed up he advised us it was our battery and to take it over and have it looked at.
