Originally tried this place because I saw it on Triple D (Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives) and I am glad I did. Delicious greasy burgers. Stick to the traditional cheeseburgers. Not a fan of their spanish burger or cheese sticks. I do love their onion rings. I have never been a fan of apple pie but my sister-in-law said theirs was really good. We visited here to relive my mom's nostalgic days coming as a kid. The burgers and apple pie with ice cream were very yummy. The fries were kind of soggy. When they brought the food out the waitress was a bit rude and had all our fry orders mixed up and we had to switch. It was worth it for the taste though. Wish it came out hotter as well. read more

This is certainly a divey place, seen on triple D. Their famous apple pie ( only thing I tried here, wasn't to hungry) was delicious. The crust is unique and extremely crumbly with the use of lard. Still melt in mouth and my girlfriend ordered the root beer float which had authentic homemade root beer with a unique spice to it. Also the soft serve ice cream is unique and creamy in itself. I've been a customer since the early 90's, back when the main waitress called everyone "honey." I sure do miss her! The house salad is pretty much what you would expect from a diner- cheap lettuce with a few veggies. Their house dressing is superb, a mayo-based dressing. The onion rings are different than you would expect. They have fall-off-the-onion breading, that in my opinion has the perfect amount of greasy-ness and crispy-ness. The double cheeseburger is always cooked perfectly, with a crispy edge. Satin freeze soft serve and apple pie rounds out this perfect lunch. Deducting one star because it's usually not the best customer service, which doesn't bother me that much, but I can see why it would bother others. read more

My family stopped in here while we were in Topeka for our son's field trip. I must say, everyone was pretty impressed with their meals. My wife commented on the fact that everyone finished everything we ordered, which is rare for the kids and her for that matter (I have no problem finishing my food - you can tell by my gut). Anyway, I had a double burger and enjoyed it. We also ordered fries and onion rings. The fries were just average. I'm sure they could get a better type from their distributor (definitely pre-cut frozen), but the onion rings were outstanding. I really liked them a lot. I was intrigued by the "Spanish Burger" and asked our waitress what it was. She said it was basically the regular burger with their "Spanish Sauce" on it. I asked for a side of the sauce so I could try it. Personally, it wasn't for me. It was just too damn sweet. The kids and wife, however, enjoyed it quite a bit. I'd recommend trying Bobo Drive-In for sure. It is a good, old school burger cooked on a flat top grill: my favorite! An odd side note - looking around the tiny dining room you may assume there is no bathroom for the public, but there is. Strangely, you have to go into the kitchen, turn and go down the stairs where there is a prep area and the bathrooms separated by a wall. It felt weird cutting through the kitchen and going to the basement prep area, but at least you can check the back-of-the-house out and see if it is ok...it was. Bobo's is the Topeka version of Kansas City's Hi Boy Drive-In. Could even call it a poor man version of KC's Winsteads. Regardless, Bobo's is pretty dang good on many fronts. The place has the appearance of an old 50's drive-in greasy burger shack. The burgers are the standard thin patty variety. Very flavorful and greasy. The bread is nice and moist. The double burger is a winner all the way around. I like a good old fashioned double burger with no cheese and add mustard & onion. The french fries are thin and crispy. The onion rings are so good. Very similar to Hi-Boy's onion rings. Pork Tenderloins are good with very little grizzle. Milk shakes are excellent and never disappoint. Few other menu items but most people come for the burger, fries, and onion rings. Prices are dirt cheap. Call your order in for faster service. read more

We were in Kansas for the USATF Jr Olympics. And remembered seeing Bobo's on TV---we had to try it. Everything we ordered was as good as we thought. Best Chocolate shake ever. The burger melted in my mouth, the pork chop burger is OMG. Our whole track team filled inside as well as the drive up---we all walked/drove away with our tummys happy. The BEST Milkshakes & Malts!! I consider myself a Shake Aficionado, having at least 1 a day. Fast Food, ice cream stores, restaurants, shake joints if they have a Chocolate Shake I've had it.The past 6 months Sonic has been my go to but having recently moved to Topeka I wanted to try local. WOW! Perfect texture & consistency and not to chocolate. Not a fan of whipped cream but I forgot to tell them and actually there's was good..5 times the last 2 weeks. My only complaint is the horrible Styrofoam cups 2x I've pushed a hole through the cup and sent milkshake all over. Otherwise 5 star shake! Think I'm going to get 1 now. read more

I love drive-ins, this place is like a time warp back to the 1950's. You can order from your car, or go inside & eat at the old timey diner counter, a booth, or a table. It's a pretty small place, very cozy. Cheeseburger & onion rings were excellent, my fish sandwich & fries were pretty basic, but it was good. Bottom line up front - Jumbo Cheese Burger - enough said. It is a triple decker cheese burger that is a heart attack waiting to happen. It has the same ingrediants as a single and a double but the triple is like a perfect combination of meat, cheese and bread. I only get it a couple times a year because I am a decade past my twenties and my waistline cann't handle it. If you sit down inside you have to get the apple pie. With the Copper Oven out of business I would say the best in Topeka. read more

Bobo's is a solid slice of Americana and a classic burger shack that has been doing it the same way for decades. Several folks had recommended that I hit up Bobo's in my Topeka travels. It was mentioned as one of the several places in Topeka where I should get a burger, but I also have a friend who worked in the restaurant when she was in high school. I headed to Bobo's with a couple of friends, although one insisted that the only way we would eat there is if we could get a place to sit inside (reasonable because it was a 100-degree day, though we were riding in my car). Fortunately for us, when we pulled up, there were just enough seats to be had. To say that Bobo's is small is an understatement, by my count there are four booths, one table, and a bar that has around 10 seats, all very tightly fit in a tiny burger shack. Most of the drive-in part of Bobo's comes with the awning space adjacent where people can pull up and order with a car-hop from their cars. Think Sonic, though Bobo's pre-dates Sonic, and without the menu-boards and speakers. Regardless, we got a seat inside at the bar and ordered -- double cheeseburgers all around, and I got rings and a root beer (they apparently make their own). After we ordered, the table opened up and we moved there -- I'm a bit oversized for counter-stool that was made for a 1940-sized person. Drinks came out and food came out and it's was all solid stuff. Burger patties are "steakburgers" similar to the thin smashed flat-top patties from Steak 'n Shake or Five Guys. Rather well made, but still juicy and flavorful. The onion rings were good, if a bit of a mess. Calling them onion rings might be a bit of an overstatement. They were an onion, sliced, separated into rings, and then the jumble of cut-up onions were dredged through flour and fried. They were closer to what other places might call onion straws. Messy and oily with some breading thrown in, though ultimately good. The root beer was quite good as well -- I felt that I got a good vanilla-flavor in it. Unfortunately, after lunch we didn't have time nor belly-space for some of the additional menu items like a root beer float, apple pie, or a satin freeze. Next time I go back, I also have to have the mysterious Spanish burger, which, according to my friend who worked there, is a steakburger with a secret sauce made of tomatoes and onions that only the owner and the cook know.
