I dropped my car off because I smelled something burning. Spoke with Chrissy who assured me she would let me know. She called me later that day saying it was a leak and how much it was going to be. I told her I would have to get back to her as the c ar was my daughters and not sure she wanted to put that much money into it. I decide i would just pick it up and take it to my local gas station as I didn't know if it really needed all of this work. When I got there Chrissy said it had already been done. I expressed my shock and dismay as I never told her to go ahead with the repairs and low and behold she said they would take care of it as it was her fault. I have been coming to Bob's Auto Repair for a few years now. This past weekend I got new tires, but noticed that my car was still shaking when I slowed down. I had gotten my brakes done 6 months ago so I was concerned that the brakes could already be wearing so quickly. I went back to Bob today to discuss and diagnose the problem. He determined that the rotors were wearing unevenly, which happens sometimes, but since I just got my brakes done Bob put new rotors and brake pads on at no charge. He said they have a warranty on their service. I was so pleased and they did it all in one afternoon! Finally a mechanic I feel I can 100% trust. I was going to bob, but after he and his mechanics said my sons car's breaks were at 35% only one month after they replaced them, told me something was wrong. And just recently, I brought my other son's car in to replace the mirror. I made a special trip over there to show the car as requested. I never even got a call back after I tried 3 times to find out if they could do the job. Such a disappointment. I have been dealing with Bob for over a decade. We have had up to five cars at one time when my kids were all driving older cars, so we saw Bob a lot. He has been unfailingly honest and fair at every encounter. Just today he replaced a vacuum hose in my car and charged me nothing, which he has done several times over the years. 5/5 stars is almost not enough to express how outstanding their service was. I took my car in about a week ago from a coworker's recommendation. I told them what I needed done on my car and anything that seemed out of the ordinary. They gave me a fair estimate and told e when to drop it off. They fixed all of my problems without overcharging me and walked me through every step just in case I had questions. I will not take my car to just anyone, and now I will only take it to Bob's. I came here because a few people had told me that they had a good experience. Unfortunately this was not the case for me. My wife and I took our 4Runner here for transmission work. After 2 days and $800 we got our car back. It ran OK for a few days, then began shifting hard. I had my wife take it back. Another 2 days and she picked it up. When she did, one of the so called "mechanics" whistled at her, then the guy gave her the exact same speech from the year before when we brought it in with no recommendation of what to do next. Supposedly they had fixed our problem. The 4Runner still shifts hard and dose not run smooth. If anything, I think they made our problems worse. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. I love Bob's auto repair. He is the nicest person along with his staff. I had to have my car go through the smog check and the check engine light was on so it would not pass. He reassured me he would find the problem. I drove by the shop and they had the front wheel off, three guys had their heads in the wheel hole, ( I thought, "oh my, I just went broke, the car isn't worth it." Well they found this tiny little part that just about held the whole engine together and fixed it. If that tiny little part had broken I would have lost my engine and car too. He could have charger me three times the amount he did and it would have been the best deal in town!!! He found the problem and didn't just keep throwing parts at it until it worked. i have spent so much time dealing with mechanics in san clemente.. bobs automotive is the best! example...i have a detail biz and my truck hols 100 gal. of water. stopping has always been an issue going through break pads every 3 months. bobs auto installed new brakes but the trick that nobody ever did was adjust the rear brakes as well. i haven't put brakes on my truck for over 6 months and i can stop on a dime!!! bob is the most honest and skilles mechanic i have ever met. he guarantees all his work and to have him on your side is comforting!! look no more !! you have found your mechanic! read more

Should have known this place was going to be crap. BOB....why is every horrible auto shop begin with the name Bob. Unreliable! Had an appointment with my husbands car yesterday for 8AM. The appointment was made several days ago. We were only wanting a check up. Simple job. At 2 PM my husband received a call from someone at the shop asking a question, no one said anything about keeping our car or having to get work done. Just a question asking where something was. Around 5 PM my husband called to check on the status of his car, and their was no answer because the shop was closed. No one called us before hand to tell us that they needed to keep it over night or that they couldn't finish the job. We only wanted a check up, it doesn't take 9 hours to run a check up on a car. Why would not call your customers to tell them they aren't going to be able to pick up their car? So my husbands calls this morning again wanting to know what the hell is going on. They put him on hold for 10 min. and rather than picking up the line and talking to him. They call him while hes on hold and leaves a message. Really? Then they take him off the hold line and hang up on him. My husband calls back immediately after hearing the message. And apparently form what Bob said, "you shouldn't assume you're getting car back, you have to call and ask"......Are you freaking kidding me?!?! That's not the way it works. If I bring my car in for a check up at 8 AM and when you have your mechanic call at 2 PM asking a question, this mechanic shouldn't tell me that my car wont be ready till tomorrow and that you need to keep it over night?! Bull! Just lazy. We all know how mechanics work. You got to busy and something became a bigger priority, and you put the car on hold and forgot about it. To make things worse when he went to pick up the car it was on the street, with all the windows rolled down and the doors unlocked! A simple phone call saying, "your car is going to have to stay over night" was all that was needed. Instead we got nothing and had to rearrange our work schedules to figure out how and when we could get his car back. Never touching my car if I can't even trust you to call me back. read more

Okay, I've not brought my car to Bob's Auto Repair (yet) but even though I live in Carlsbad, (which is about 40 minutes away) I'm tempted! I'm an artist, and I entered an oil painting of the front of Bob's garage for a contest at the San Clemente Art Association in June. At the gala, I met many people who not only recognized the building (you can't miss it with it's bright orange and blue painted metal facade!), but many gave me their individual reviews of Bob's business: Every one of these had great experiences with Bob's Auto Repair, many of them commenting specifically on his integrity! I wouldn't recommend this place if you expect normal customer service at a reasonable price. We were given Bob's Auto as the place to take our SUV after we had a water pump failure and some damage to other parts of the engine as a result. The original estimate was "about $900" after which we requested an update to any additional work that needed to be done. After days of following up with their shop and not getting clear updates on the cost, we received a bill for almost $2,300.00. We were told that several "additional" items needed replacement and of course the belts and hoses that accompany the new parts. And... the hourly labor rate at this place was actually more than what you can expect from the local dealer. The worst of it was that we were kept in the dark about what was being done, not getting our approval for all the work and then how long it took to get the work done. Never again. read more

i brought my truck in to have the hoses changed out , they said it would be a couple days and $450 . two weeks later after ducking my phone calls and lying to me a lot , they had the guy across the street finally do the work. they tried once and cracked my manifold. so when I finally was able to get my truck they gave me a bill over $1000 . they are the worst mechanics and business ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more
