OMG! What started out as a routine oil change at a location up the street from Jay's turned into what could've been an extremely expensive repair. The oil change business noticed something was leaking underneath my Lexus. I had popped into the dealership later that day for them to review it only to be presented with an exorbitant costly repair. I tried to reach our usual mechanic who is Bob's up the street. He apparently had an accident and was unavailable at his location. Several people recommended Jay's and I was extremely grateful that he was able to take me with short notice and diagnose the problem. I was traveling out of state that week and preferred to use my own car. Dominic was able to squeeze me in. He and his technician stayed later that day to make sure that my repair was completed on time so I was able to take the car the next day. Very reasonably priced. Exceeded my expectations. Clean location. All around super professionalism. You definitely have won customer over and I will be back for additional repairs or general maintenance as will my spouse. I am blown away at how honest and helpful Dominic is at Jay's. I've always gone to only the dealership for my Infiniti but when I found out I needed a new catalytic converter and it was going to cost $3000, I decided to look outside the dealership to get some quotes. Based on the reviews, I called Jay's. Dominic was incredibly helpful and although I asked for a quote for the work, he suggested that we try cleaning this catalytic converter with a product called CataClean that I could try on my own and may prevent the need for the costly repairs. My car gas 173,700 miles on it and I needed to get a smog check to renew my registration at the end of the month. I need to get this taken care of quickly. Dominic told me what to do on my own and checked to make sure the cleaner worked. I purchased the product on my own (per his guidance) and his instructions were clear and it allowed me to pass the smog inspection. I am elated!! And Dominic did not charge me a penny. He gave the advice for free to avoid the repairs. I was ready to spend thousands if needed because I thought I had to. Dominic could made money on me - but instead, told me how to avoid it. I feel like I was treated like a sister or a friend. I am blown away by this experience. I now know who I will go to for any car maintenance and repairs - these guys have integrity and great values. STAY AWAY!!! The owner is not kind and if you are a person of color don't be expected to be treated with respect. Let me start with the way I was introduced to this place when it was recommended. It was recommended because of a good mechanic that works for the owner with the disclaimer that the owner was a jerk! Walking in the door, the owner was a piece of work. As a female who was getting her tribute vehicle repaired the guy treated me like I was scum. He talked down to me and gave me no sense of decency in front of another guy. As I read some of these comments I don't find it surprising that another person of color would find their experience with him bad. Just moved to the area and had my oil changed at Jiffy Lube. The tech stated the driver side CV joint was torn and needed replacing. The car did hit road debris a week before and that took out a tire and a portion of the bumper so I felt I should have this issue checked out. Dominic at Jay's Car Repair said they would check it out for a $45 dollar fee for time to put it on the lift. That fee would be applied to any repair work. They checked it out and found no problem and nothing was leaking. Furthermore, the CV joints were fine on both sides. They even waived the $45 fee even though they did spend time checking out the car. Hard to find such generosity along with an honest assessment. I would recommend using Jay's for your auto repair needs. read more

I can't believe I waited this long to write a review about Jay's car repair. We've been taking our vehicles there for years and have had an excellent experience each and every time. In fact, on more than one occasion it turned out there was actually nothing wrong with my car. I guess I will call it "user error" lol. Jay's called and told me to come pick it up, no charge. The name may be the same but not the integrity. I have been going to Jays for around 15 years; however the original ownership has changed. Recently I went in for a simple oil change on a Friday morning. By Saturday morning my car was smoking so badly that I had to rent a car for the weekend. I already had another appointment Monday for breaks; so after having my car all day, I was told that the coolant fluid had spilled and emptied out into the engine. I was also told that nothing was wrong with the car, the cap or the oil change that they had performed. The coolant had somehow just overflowed on its own with no explanation. I was very disappointed and insulted with this response. From my past experience, I went there for the honesty, professionalism and excellent work performed; but I don't sense those qualities there anymore...or the trust and consideration that can exist in a local business. read more

So I see no issue why he couldn't prepare me an estimate. Not to mention, he also stated to me "You don't get the car back until we get paid so" SO RUDE and unprofessional. I went to Jay's Wednesday (7/27) afternoon to make an appointment to have my car serviced. I was told by the man at the desk that there was a cancellation "tomorrow" at 8:30. I verbally repeated the day and time so there would be no misunderstanding. So, I showed up today, Thursday (7/28) at the appointed time. The guy at the desk looked at me as if he had never seen me before (I was wearing the same clothes as the day before) and flat out told me my appointment was for Friday! Perhaps since I'm a female senior citizen (85) he thought I'd acquiesce to this "switcheroo" with no complaint. I have taken my cars to Jay's for the past 20 years and always received excellent courteous service when Jay was the owner, but I won't be going back. read more

Jay's Auto repair . I can't remember who referred me to this shop , but I have been coming here for about 4 years now , maybe longer . Jay is an expert in foreign car repair services. He has been taking care of my daughters 2007 BMW X5 all through out her college years of school . When she went to college in Oregon they even looked up a service repair and referred us to a mechanic in Oregon in case she needed service there . This truly is a family owned and operated auto service shop. They are honest and they truly care . TARA wife of Jay keeps records and makes the appointments and she always tells me ahead of time the cost on parts and service work . They beat the prices of dealerships by far, but not only that she tells me , what I need and is not needed at the time . Unlike other mechanics shops where they try to drive up the cost of service and tell you u need stuff you truly don't need . I'm very grateful to have found this hidden gem and when I say hidden they are deep down in San Clemente, a little bit of a drive for me coming from LA , and they are only open M-F 8am -5pm not open on weekends , but they are worth taking your car to for service . They have never lied to me about what my car or truck needs . And I always do get a second opinion on service work , I go to dealership 1st and see what they say and get their prices . Than I go to Jay's Auto and get the work done and of course it's 60% less the cost for the same exact service . If u need a car rental TARA took me around the corner to rent a car . The office is clean and smells nice , not greasy or dirty ever . It smells like Christmas in the waiting area at Jay's Auto (TARA has the best air freshener in this place ) We also have a Lexus hybrid 400h SUV 2014 And once again Jay's prices and services are the best and we never had any problems even with this shop . Jay's Auto repair has gotten my daughters to school and back and than to college too with their excellent service repairs . Just picked my 2012 Ford Edge up from these guys and feel the need to give them a Stella review. Had the Edge from new and done almost 200k, been a reliable work horse with limited issues. I took it to Jays for a service last year and just took it back for a front axel shaft assembly replacement, new belts, oil change, filter etc. Called and booked it in yesterday, dropped the car off at 5.30am and had a call by lunch time to say work was done. Paid over the phone l, car was left with invoice as per instructions. Sub $600 and couldn't be happier with the work and customer service. 5 Stars for Jay's Car Repair! I was a customer prior to the change of ownership (to Dominic) so was a bit skeptical if I would receive the same care. I can confidently report (after 3-4 services now) Jay's is better than ever. Most recently, I mistakenly dropped my key in the old suite door & this was a problem because I need my service finished earlier for a commitment. I had to get to work & hoped they'd figure it out. Within a couple of hours, Dominic called & reported not only did they retrieve my key but they would finish my car early so I could get to my event. Small shop that cares about what they are doing! So I've been here a couple of times now for small repairs. Nothing big yet, so I haven't been facing up charges or recommendations yet for big ticket items, but I have to say so far they really seem to know what they are doing and know how to schedule so that you don't end up waiting longer than you should for your car. Their location is suspect, in a small industrial area in north San Clemente, but the people are great. Not sure if it's the owner's wife running the front desk, but she's got a good handle on things and will not book work unless there is an opening. If there's not, she'll happily recommend another place (as she did with us the last time) so you can get your car back as soon as possible. That's a sign of a good repair shop in my opinion. We'll be back the next time there is a problem and I've been recommending friends and family here. read more

If i could give it a higher review than 5 i would, i came here on a whim after being recommended on a group in san clemente , i had 5 choices, some multiple times but this is where i just knew as soon as i picked up the phone, explained what I knew i needed and we set a time, i arrived at the time we said. Dropped off my vehicle, i knew he was working my car into a schedule so i had made sure that afternoon meant after noon and right on time several hours (more than enough time) before closing for me to scurry over and grab my prius. Best experience i could have asked for. Honest / great work. Fantastic prices (the breakdown and explaination is clear as well) And Telling you the truth of the work that was needed and what i needed in the future based on future tune ups on my older vehicle.
