A favorite leather bag of mine was split on the shoulder strap. Edwardo had to match the whiskey leather; a steel button needed to be installed so that both sides of the shoulder strap looked the same. Edwardo beautifully matched the color and the repaired side looks like the intact side. The price was appropriate for the value - I now have my bag in fashion-ready order... Came in here due to all the rave reviews on Yelp. I miss my Italian Shoe Repair guy on Flatbush Ave and haven't gotten anything fixed since he retired. But when I (finally) switched over to my fall shoes that I hadn't seen since before the pandemic, because there was no where to go, I found a couple pairs of boots that needed some love. I have to admit, I almost walked out of here and gave up a few times. When I came in, Bob immediately said he couldn't help me and acted like he didn't want my business. I was shocked to encounter this kind of treatment, since the reviews were so good. But I needed my shoes repaired, so I dug in a little deeper on why he felt he couldn't repair them and we were able to come up with a way to fix both pairs. He at one point told me he couldn't polish my white boots and gestured to all the colors of polish he had, and I was the one who picked out the "vanilla" he ended up using that matched perfectly. Again, the vibe was he didn't even want to try to find a solution to my shoe repair needs. The next shock was the price - $40 to fix each pair! This was more than I had paid for both shoes, because one pair were 90s vintage given to me by mom mom and the other were a beautiful pair of cowboy boots given to me by a friend. Both needed a heel replacement and a little polish. The 90s vintage ones needed some gluing on the heel. Again, I almost walked out, but I gave him my money and hoped for the best. What I got was actually a pretty good shoe repair. Was it $40 worth? Not really. But I am happy with the result. Bob was also MUCH nicer when I came back. And the shoes were done a day early, which was great. I think all things considered, I would come back here, because I know they do a good job. Almost didn't get there, though. Consistently great service. I've been bringing shoes here for 10 years now, and just picked up another re-soled/polished pair today. They do quality work in a timely way, and have great hours + make pick-up easy (you'll get a text message when shoes are ready). I bring him my favorite shoes, high quality leather, etc. It's a great spot in the neighborhood! I also have really appreciated Bob's honesty over the years. I took a (beloved, favorite, and very well-worn) pair of boots to him several times for repairs/resoles. Last year, he finally said: "These are done." And he was right - they were starting to break down in a way that couldn't be repaired. The honestly saved me $70 worth of work that wouldn't have extended the life much. I've now gone twice. The first was a rush polish job on some mens shoes. Those were fine. Then I brought 3 pairs of heels: 1 pair black Calvin Klein heels, 1 pair tan Via Spiga heels, and 1 pair of Aquatalia weather proof boots, which were suede and just needed new heels and to be tidied up. When I dropped them off, they clearly did not understand what Aquatalias were, they also didn't believe me that they were weather proof - "no, suede!". So clearly, they knew they were suede. I have no words. $140, and they scraped off all of the suede on these $300 shoes, and introduced a new vshaped cut/puncture on the back. The tan shoes have a weird new pink/brown color on each for, and the heel repair is shoddy. The black shoes, to be fair, came in in really rough shape but again, the heel repair was shoddy. They also begged me for a tip, on $140 of terrible work. I will not be returning. read more

The strap on my Michael Kors bag completely tore off, as well as one of the straps of my Anello backpack - both because of the weight of textbooks. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for any repair service on shoes over $100. I brought in my Golden Goose Slides to get taps put on. He talked me into putting on new treads even though they weren't worn through. Sounded like a good idea considering I walk a lot around the city. They did replace the soles, no problem. Unfortunately, they also repainted the exterior distressed sides of the shoes hyper white. When he pulled them out, they were obviously ruined. Ok, now what I asked. Then he started laughing at me for purchasing distressed shoes and told me he made them like new. He wouldn't reimburse the $75 I paid and pretty much sent me packing with a pair of shoes I would be embarrassed to wear. IDK what to do, but I would recommend recording your conversations with him because he had the nerve to tell me we didn't discuss it when I dropped them off. Guess the lesson is learned. I bought a pair of over-priced Jeffrey Campbell booties years ago and wore them into the ground. The plastic coating the heels was peeling, and the sole of one of the heels had come clean off - exposing the white plastic interior of the shoe. I stuck them under my bed for over a year, unsure if I should toss them or try to repair them. This left the suede part of the shoe looking dusty and white-cast.. Decided to give Bob's Shoe and Leather Service a chance and I'm SO GLAD I did. $45 later and the soles have been replaced on both heels, the peeling plastic replaced with a matte black finish, and they even did something to the suede to make it look new again. This was all done in under a week, and I got a text to let me know when they were done. The people working there were really nice, and great about explaining my options. I asked the gentlemen if he was able to treat this and he immediately said he needed the other slipper. I was confused by this but told him that the other slipper was perfectly clean as these were brand new. he scoffed and went into the back before coming back and saying he would try to clean the slipper with no guarantee for $40. I had an awful experience here. I dropped off a coat to have the zipper replaced (not the full zipper track, just the zipper itself). They told me it would cost $45, which seemed like a lot (it was just a dinky little zipper piece). But I paid it up front, as they requested. I went in to pick it up the next day, and when I brought it home, the zipper flew right off the coat. I was pretty shocked that they would give me back an item that was so clearly broken. I brought it back the following day and was met by a person who couldn't understand what I was saying because he didn't speak English. I tried to explain that they had just "repaired" my zipper, but that the zipper kept coming off the track. Though he appeared to not understand what I meant, he took the coat into the back, did something that took him about 30 seconds, and came back out. He showed me that the zipper now worked. It had been put on the wrong side of the track), and then said, "$20" (yes, he knew how to say prices in English). I tried to explain to him again that I had brought the coat in already for them to fix and paid $45, and that they had not fixed it. He tried to haggle with me, and said, "Ok, $15." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Again, I calmly explained the situation, and then he proceeded to get very angry, waved me away, told me to leave the store, and wouldn't look at me, as though I were cheating him. First, after dropping off four pairs of shoes for repair, he had me write my number on the ticket nice and big (he does not see very well), which I did, and he said they would text when the shoes were ready. Two weeks later, no text, no call, so I called to follow up, and learned they were in fact ready. Then, I was struck with the odd look of one of my pairs of shoes - a nice designer black leather pump with patent leather contrast. They looked dulled, as if the patent leather had been covered with the same polish as the leather parts. After rubbing the patent leather accents with a damp cloth, this was confirmed. It may come off eventually, but this was really disappointing, and is taking me more effort to strip the layer of dull shoe polish off of the shiny patent leather. The other pairs look good and neat, but this lack of attentiveness was a big problem for me. read more

This is a fantastic craftsman who does great work, quickly, for a very reasonable price! I brought Bob a great old leather jacket that I had found at a thrift store but which had started to split along the sleeve and shoulder seam and needed TLC. I didn't want to spend a lot of money for repairs, so I decided to trust the great reviews and brought the jacket in for a quote. $50 paid in advance was a safe bet. Bob told me he'd get back to me in a week when the jacket was ready for pickup. Just four days later I get a text saying the coat was ready. I came in and the coat had not only been repaired (a tricky job that required opening up the lining) but he had reconditioned the leather and fixed a few other trouble spots perfectly. Best. Decision. Ever. This man is a real artisan and his services have won my confidence. I'll be back. read more

Less than two years later I went in to have the same service done for a different pair of boots and the price for the EXACT same service is $50. I told the salesperson that the price was much higher than the last time I'd received the service and that the cost would be half the price of the boots. He made a joke and didn't seek to clarify what the issue might be. After reviewing my old review I realized that indeed the price the last time had been $15 and so I called the salesperson to address the issue. He initially said that the first time I'd come in there must have been a mistake by the sales person. Then after I clarified three times what the service was that I was requesting he said that I had miscommunicated what I had wanted and I said I wanted new soles. (I've worn the boots 5 times and there is absolutely no need for new soles.) He spoke over me the entire time that I was trying to clarify the issue which made it impossible for him to understand what I was saying. I went to this place after my wonderful amazing shoe repair person closed during the Covid pandemic. Terrible mistake. They ruined an expensive handmade pair of leather shoes. I needed a new heel and sole which they put on, but they decided that my shoes needed a polish and so they polished them with the completely wrong color of polish, turning my grey shoes purple. They took the polish off with many shampoos and then recolored them grey. The result is ugly cheap looking shoes that I paid $65 to have fixed. Avoid at all costs. read more

Took my breath away! I took in a pair of open clogs that I just love. The heels and soles were worn, the pipping across the instep was crack. I debated tossing them and purchasing a new pair but opted to see what could be done more reasonably. When I received the estimated price, I re-considered tossing them but something said "Give it a try; it is still cheaper than a new pair." Ruined my shoes a few days before my wedding. Denied that they had changed the color. He said I was wrong, and said it was impossible since the polish was "clear". When I brought them in they were a redish light tan, what I got back was dark brown. I showed them a picture of what they should look like, and the guy tried to convince me the picture was wrong. Luckily the store I bought the shoes from also sold matching belts, so I brought in the belt to show the original color. He finally conceded, and to their credit they got them as close as they could, but I regret ever bringing them in. They definitely made my shoes worse. I paid 30 dollars to have this snapped leather string in my baseball glove to be replaced and they didn't replace it, just tied the original leather back together and sewed it shut with a string. I will not be surprised if it breaks the first time I use it. I might as well just have bought a new glove. Feeling ripped off/scammed since I specified I wanted the leather replaced and they did not do it. Edit to add in response to the below comment, this was not explained to me at all and I would have taken it elsewhere to be fixed if that had been the case. The strings are extremely old leather and need replacing or else they're just going to snap again. This business advertises professional knife sharpening out front. I left two knives to be sharpened: a standard Cuisinart chef's knife (~$15) and Sansyu Nakiri knife ($100). He charged me $40 and gave me a claim ticket, stating that he would text when they were done. Over a week went by and I still hadn't heard anything from him, so I stopped by to see if they were done. He acted strangely once I gave him my claim ticket. He proceeded to give me back only one of the knives. When I said that one knife was missing, he then became defensive and told me: "that I should worry about my health, not a knife". He said that he would call someone and then call me the next day. More than 24 hours passed, and he still hadn't called, so I went in again. On this second visit, he now claimed to have lost the second knife. He then offered me some random, cheap knives, which I refused. I insisted that he pay for the knife that he had lost. He offered to give me $20 for the lost knife, to which I pointed out that that would simply be refunding me for what I originally paid. He then aggressively asked me what I wanted. I repeated: for him return the value of the knife he lost. He expressed that I was being ridiculous and gave me additional $20. During all our interactions his aggressive-defensive stance and sheepishness makes me strongly suspect that he might have recognized the expensive knife and stolen it. The whole experience was very unpleasant, and I was made to feel that I had done something wrong. I took the knife to a professional because I was afraid I'd ruin it if I sharpened it at home. I wouldn't come here with any high-quality, expensive items. It is primarily a shoe repair shop (items which regularly cost more than $100) and he is not prepared to compensate for lost items at value. read more
