I needed a zipper on my suitcase fixed as well as some shoes stretched. I dropped off the suitcase and it was fixed by the time i walked back down from my appointment. The shoes i picked up a couple days later (they let you know the shoes should stretch overnight) I can't tell the difference so I'll probably go back down and see if they can help further. I debated as to whether or not to post a review, particularly after reading all of the other mostly positive ones. But today, I was fairly upset over the lack of customer service with this store. I should preface this by saying that I love small, family owned businesses. And I went there specifically because they are in a neighborhood where gentrification is making it's fair sweep. The owners seem...nice. There. But after dropping off two pairs of shoes about two weeks ago (1 pair of boots & 1 pair of oxford lace ups), I returned today to pick up my order, only to find that they had not done what I asked to my oxford shoes (they neglected to fix a tear). Okay, so this was minor, because the man very graciously mended them for me in a matter of ten minutes. But what especially upset me was how they went ahead and added an additional sole to the bottoms of my boots....without my asking. I specially asked them NOT to do this once dropping them off two weeks prior; so color me surprised when I find my boots look completely different. The assurance I received from the owner was that I would have a longer wear time with the new soles..." you basically have a new pair of boots!" he tells me. And yet, my mind kept going back to the fact that I specifically asked them NOT to. To make matters worse, the owner attempted to give me a discount for the work that I did not ask for. So, basically I had to cough up an additional $20 for work that I did not ask for. This blows my mind because as a customer, I believe it is wrong. I went in with my ticket stub, having already put down my deposit - and to be told that I owe an additional $20 for a mistake that was not even mine. In the end, because I was suffering from a migraine and straight frustration, I paid $15 extra just to get my boots back and to get on with my day. I am not made of money - these days my middle name is budget, and it's what I live by. It doesn't matter WHAT business you are in, you must let the customer decide how much they'd like to spend on a particular service or item. To make that assumption for them is crossing the line (so is patronizing them into thinking that you are right). If, by chance it is out of their price range, please leave it in their hands to either accept your service...or walk away. Please always give them that option. I was extremely disappointed in the service (not the work). I wish they would've taken my request into consideration and realized that, even if the customer is not always right...they are entitled to get what they pay for. And nothing else unless discussed in advance. At the end of the day, seems like common sense. read more

I'm embarrassed to admit just how I'd worn down the heals of my black over the knee-boots this year. The heals were on slant and they made an awful noise as I walked the street. If I saw me, I'd have talked about me. Thankfully, Yelp to the rescue with the previous reviews of MJSR. This convenient little shoe shop in the heart of Bed-Stuy is closed on Saturdays for the Jewish Sabbath and opened on Sundays (I particularly dig these hours of service as I am generally more compelled to run errands after a day of rest), The shop is small, the people are friendly and the owners seem to have a great rapport with the surrounding 'hood (the man manning the store greeted every regular patron by name). I had 4 pairs of boots that need repair. Heal replacements, taps, and shine - $90 (some of the heals were truly horrible, so I wasn't taken back by the price). My shoes were ready in three days and they did a pretty decent job, though if I'm being honest the repair job wasn't as good as I've had at some cobblers in midtown. Also, the work on the black soled boots was better than the work on the neutral soled boots - but he told me in advance that the colors wouldn't match perfectly. In a pinch, I'd drop my shoes to be shined again for sure, however, I probably wouldn't return for resoling because there are better alternatives near my j-o-b. But if you need an emergency repair...look no further than Magic Joe for quick and friendly service. read more

A tiny shop just off the Franklin Avenue C-train stop, I dropped off a pair of new boots last week. After just one wear, the lining began to rip and Magic Joe assured me that they were able to fix them. Sure enough, I picked them up last night and they fixed the lining, better than they were originally. A little steep at $20 for the repair, but I'm just happy I'll be able to rock my hot boots again. Stopped by here w my coworker to get her LV bag strap fixed after LV stating they refuse to fix it because its an "old seasoned" bag. U would think they treat their customers better being that they spend so much $$$ on their bags. Anyways, this place fixed the strap and when my coworker picked it up i couldnt even notice where the fix was! They did a superb and amazing job. They even advised her to prevent that from happening again to lighten her contents in the bag. I came back here to get holes punched in my belt. They did it immediately and price was so reasonable. I dropped of a pair of shoes for a half sole, heal, and polish. Let me say that this is the first time I have ever used a cobbler, and did not know what to expect. I got the shoes back and they did not look like they did when i dropped them off, and not in a good way. They glued about a quarter inch piece of leather to the bottom of each shoe. they look like cheep crap now. The polishing job was whatever, and on top of that there is cut on the side of one shoe that I could have sworn was not there when I dropped them off. maybe my expectations were too high, but I would say avoid. Again I have nothing to compare the work to. I will update the review once I have it done again somewhere else. read more

I stopped to get a pair of shoes repaired by this place and was told it was $35 to lift the heel and make it even or $12 to shorten the heel a bit. There are gaps between the new heels and the shoe was still leaning to the side. He wanted to charge me $3 extra dollars for stick on taps that cost $.50 on Amazon. Also, the guy who did my shoe (I don't know if it was Mike himself but it probably is) had a very abrasive personality. In the future i will find someone else who will actually want and appreciate my business and who will do a good job. read more

Every time I go back the service is worse and worse. The the most recent visit was probably my last. The repair was pretty mediocre and extremely over priced, not to mentioned they couldn't find my shoes for about 15 minutes. When I dropped them off I asked if they would also polish the shoes to try freshen them up and was told "Of course!" When I picked them up they had clearly not been polished and when I asked about it the guy straight rolled his eyes at me. I wouldn't mind the increased price if the quality was better and they attempted to be friendly. I don't know what happened here, but I don't recommend it anymore. read more

The soles of my leather boots were almost totally worn down, so I decided to take them in to get re-soled at Magic Joe. First time here, but I live down the street and all of the good reviews convinced me to try it out. I was helped immediately after walking in the door, and told them what I wanted. The employee also suggested getting the tread on the front sole replaced, which I agreed to. They quoted me $45 for the total, which I thought was a little steep, but I got these boots for a great price and we're just entering the actual slippery, icy winter so I was willing to pay for good soles. I could have picked them up the next day, but I waited two days to go. I was again immediately helped when I walked in the door, and they brought my shoes up. The soles look WAY better than when they were new (especially the tread - these babies are gonna rock the icy NYC sidewalks this winter), and they had also polished up the leather boots. They looked great and I was happy to pay the $45. Quick and great service. They feel just as good as new as I've been wearing them today. Also, another bonus. Unlike many businesses around Bed Stuy/Clinton Hill, these guys open at 8am, so I was able to go drop off and pick up my boots before work. read more

**for females with slim legs whose tall boots are to big for calves/leg.** 1st pair- I have a pair of "right below the knee" boots. The boots are leather and the leg part stand upright without falling. My legs are slim and the boots didn't fit close to my legs like I would like them to. My calves measure 14" around and my ankle 8". The results are amazing. They fit perfectly. 2nd pair- These boots are over the knee and its doesn't stand upright. It's a softer fabric not like cloth but not stiff like the first pair. The same results, amazing. read more
