Bob's is really a 3.5. It definitely satisfies my breakfast taco craving and let's face it, when am I not craving breakfast tacos? I have been twice now and can come to the fair assessment, their chorizo and egg taco is delicioso. The re-fried beans are perfect and I am kind of a brat about those. They are very homemade bacon grease flavored. Both times I have ordered the barbacoa. It's not really getting any better. After pouting for the second time, Chris said I should probably stop ordering it. Delicious! I got the Tex-Mex luncheon plate for 7.99 and a Dr. Pepper, total came to $10 before generous tip. Our waitress, though young, was friendly and capable, we both ordered Dr. Pepper so they brought us a pitcher with our glasses. The place is full of old regional memorabilia, including some photographs that are so old and faded you can barely see what's in them. The food was fantastic, the crispy taco shell was perfect and tasted fresh, and the meat in my enchilada was moist and delicious. Everything was drowning in hot sauce and absolutely perfect. Next time I'm ordering more tacos though, and skipping the non-taco stuff. The tacos were great. read more

Here is another place I don't get. I was heading back to Austin after a night in Houston and decided to go see why Guy stopped here from Diner, Dives, and Drive-ins. We all ordered Taco plates. There is definitely nothing special about the tacos. I have been to many Mexican and Tex-Mex places all over central/south Texas and cannot say this place "wow'd" us in any form. The hefty bill at the end left an impression though for 2 adult (2 taco meals and 1 child taco meal) w/ 3 drinks ($31.00). I have said this before in past reviews, I don't mind spending money on great food. However, I do mind paying that much on a "hyped up place". I don't know if they raised their prices after Guy made his visit but the Taco plates are NOT worth $9 each. Plus side: The tortilla's are homemade & fresh - but thick ( a little too thick for me, but still good) The sno balls were great and the best part of the whole experience. read more

We heard about Bab's Taco station on the food network. The tamales I had were certainly the most interesting I had ever had. The restaurant was busy, but that was expected for a little after noon on a Sunday. There was a sign saying to be patient, that all the food was made to order and, as such, took longer than a fast food restaurant. Worth the wait. Maybe I'm visiting restaurants that have longer than average wait times but the food did not take that long to come to the table and our chips and salsa never ran dry. It is a bit of a drive from Houston but if you are in the area, stop in. You will be glad you did. Bottom line, I will be going back. read more

If you're from Houston/Sugar Land and you're heading out to Rosenberg to renew your drivers license or because you feel like being in semi-small town USA, you need to stop by BOB'S TACO STATION! Saw in some of the previous reviews that this place was featured on Diners, Drive-Inns, and Dives so I had to go. My girlfriend and I decided to have breakfast here on this chilly December morning. Parking was easy dirt/gravel. Don't bring your Benz here! But I'm probably the only one complaining since Rosenberg is filled with trucks. First step inside, the eclectic atmosphere was enlightening bright and early. There were also a lot of fans in the place, so I'm assuming it gets really hot during the summer. But it was perfect for this particular morning. The service was warm and friendly. The waiters collectively took care of us which made it seem like we were at someones home. Now to the food. I ordered the Two Egg Plate (that really comes with two eggs. I asked!), a machacado taco, and a carne guisada taco. My girlfriend ordered a bacon and egg taco and two fajita tacos. Let me just say, THE FRESH TORTILLAS ARE TO DIE FOR! The soft texture and freshness of the tortillas alone will have me coming back. The plate would have been great alone, if I wasn't hella hungry. The meat inside the tacos were tendered and juicy. You can taste the time taken in preparation and marinate in every bite. Also, me and my girlfriend are originally from San Diego so we critique our hot sauce almost tougher than we critique our Mexican food. With that said, I was ready to steal the bottle of hot sauce on our table (but I didn't!). I think we used 3/4 of that bottle, it was so good. It smelled like they made it themselves, but I don't know for sure. Regardless, the flavor of the hot sauce complimented every dish. I'm glad Bob's Taco Station was featured on DDD because it's awesome food, great service, and home-y atmosphere deserves the recognition! PS THE TACOS WERE SO GREAT, I HAD TO ORDER TAKE OUT FOR MY MOM! Horrible tacos and expensive. I ordered 4 potato egg tacos and they were awful, the potato left a bitter taste and they were super dry. I tried to add fresh tomato and salsa to help eat and nothing helped the taste. I couldnt believe my bill total was $9.00 for 4 POTATO EGG TACOS!!! Thats insane and they charged me $.20/each for some salsa. I could only eat 2 tacos before I gave up and wasted the other 2. What a waste of almost $10. read more

Rosenberg is a town located just on the outskirts of the Houston metropolitan area. I've driven through many of these smaller Main Streets, and passed many nondescript eateries like Bob's in the past, but have usually dismissed them, thinking "how good could they be?" My visit to Bob's showed me that even the small towns have something good to offer. The sign advertises tacos, menudo, and tamales, so I went with a sampling of the first and second. The tamales were somehow more meat than masa, and moist without being drippy. I can see why they sell them by the dozen, and why an elderly gentleman came in and ordered 2 dozen to go while I was waiting. The tacos were as simple as it gets -just some barbacoa and a tortilla, but the fresh tortilla and fresh barbacoa made it tasty. The place was bustling when I visited, and with a segment on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on deck to be aired, the crowds are going to get much worse. In the meantime, though, Bob's goes to show that you don't need to go up to the big city to grab some solid Tex-Mex. read more

I wanted to love this place more than I did since it was on Triple D, but it was just ok. The tacos are good for the most part, but the tortillas are a little too thick and mask some of the flavor. If you do make the trip out there make sure to get the Louisiana shaved ice in the back of the place. Its the main attraction in my opinion. If I were only rating the snow cones, I would give this place five stars. However, the tacos are just OK for me. I think the problem for me is the tortillas. Yes, they are made there, which is great, but they are too thick for my tastes. They are comparable to pita breads. Still, the tacos are definitely not bad, just not extraordinary. Also, the queso dip has NO flavor. You have to mix the queso with the salsa, which is pretty good, to have any flavor in the queso at all. It's definitely worth going here just for the snow cones. I have been wanting to try this place since I heard about it being on Food Network with Guy. Driving up to the place, the ambiance is as nice as going into Willie's. There are signs everywhere, cement, wood, and posters. But, it gave off a homey feeling. My fiance and I ordered off the menu, ordering 3 tacos, and a Tex-Mex plate. The 3 tacos consisted of 1) guacamole 2) potatoes, bacon, and egg, and 3) chorizo and potatoes. The tacos were good, but it was not anything that made me go WOW. They were just good. It did help that everything was made from scratch, and the tortillas were nice and thick. The tex-mex plate came with a homemade tamale, and I think that this is the ONLY reason people come here! The tamale was sweet, juicy, and tender. It almost melted in my mouth! We were served chips and salsa upon sitting down, but it took awhile for our server to get to our table. We then asked for a side of guacamole to go with the chips, and it never came. I had to ask for the side again, when the rest of our meal came. The waitress then asked if I wanted the guacamole salad, and I said (AGAIN), that we had just wanted guacamole for the chips. They FINALLY brought us the order, and it was the salad. Eventually, the waitress just took the order of guac off of the bill, but we kept the salad, because she said it took them a long time to make it. I'm not sure if there was a lack of communication here, but I did have to repeat myself several times, and our drinks were never refilled until we stopped a waitress toward the end of the meal to get it refilled. We were impressed by the tamales, but really, that was about it. If service makes a difference to the restaurants you attend, then get this food (the tamales) to go! Other than that, we will go only when necessary, and only for the take-out. We'll save the sno-cones for another day. read more

I saw the episode of Diners, Drive-In's and Dives featuring Bob's. That peaked my interest. I finally made it from Houston to Rosenburg to eat here. It would be impossible to guess at the number of Mexican Restaurants I passed on my 30 mile trip. I had to have the Taco plate...what else? The Borracho beans were fantastic. Probably the best I have ever had. The tacos were good. The homemade salsas were fantastic. The prices were OK and the atmosphere is exactly what you would expect. Nothing more. Nothing less. Well I got in the car and drove 30 minutes to order up some tacos and see if it was as good as Guy and everyone else on yelp say it is..... I arrived and the inside of the building is so fun. There are signs everywhere and lots of "joking" ones too. The vibe is great and makes you feel welcome. You seat yourself so you can come right in and sit down. I was there on a Sunday afternoon so it wasn't too busy but I am sure it gets hectic at times. We were greeted by our waiter very quickly and drinks came right away, the menu is simple and prices are very inexpensive to me. About $2.59 for a carne guisada taco...not too bad I ordered 1 carne guisada taco, 1 barbacoba taco with cilantro and 1 luenga. I ended up getting 1 barbacoba taco with cilantro and 2 carne guisada tacos....The waiter didnt get my order correct...hummm but I didn't say anything because it looked good and I was hungry so who cares. Well the carne guisada tacos were so tender and good. The meat just fell apart the minute you would bite into your taco. Very delicious. The barbacoba was good too. A very generous amount of meat in each taco and this one wasn't fatty or super greasy which is good!!! So overall I give it 2 thumbs up... The best part of the meal was the snoball after the food. I ordered a Barney which is a mix of bubblegum and cotton candy and it was so good. Order one of these. The margarita snoball was good to with fresh lime juice and salt...like your eating a margarita. Overall the experience was great, service was great aside from my messed up order but the food made it worth it. Will I be back..yes! read more

The red and green bottled salsa is good, the refried beans were ok, the Carne guisada had good flavor (could actually taste the cumin, and a lot of places don't even use cumin, which is necessary for good Carne guisada) but they used the wrong cut of meat and it was over cooked, and the gravy was more of a liquid, eggs are eggs right?, tortillas were homemade, the potatoes were ok, no crisp on them. We stopped in at Bob's to kill some time while waiting on the downtown antique stores to open. Glad we did. The ambience is comfortable neighborhood dive. Service was friendly and it was obvious that locals eat here. We had breakfast tacos (about $2.00 apiece) and tamales (about $2.29 apiece or $9.99 for half a dozen). The flour tortilla on the breakfast taco was chewy and homemade. The tamale was more spicy pork filling than masa. As a result, the tamale was filling, but in a good way. We noticed a sign on the wall that said that the special of the day (Friday) was all you could eat tamale plate for $7.99 - heckuva deal! I wish I could give this place less than a star, I waited 20 minutes for a menu and the food was horrible and unfriendly service. The portion of my quesadilla sucked so bad. It was one small tortilla with barely any cheese and it was 9 dollars I know im paying for quality but this was no quality. So maybe "Bob's has changed", maybe "it used to be good", but you know what? I STILL FREAKING LOVE IT! Of all the breakfast tacos I have tried, Bob's is still my go-to taco fix. You can't really rely on me to give an in depth review on their whole menu (SORRY!) but I can tell you alllll about their breakfast tacos and tamales! The tamales aren't so bad, I don't have much history with tamales to compare them with any other restaurants', but if you put it in front of me expect it to disappear. However, I think it's their hot sauce that really makes it oh-so-delicious. Not too spicy, not too bland, and perfect with everything on their menu! Now on to the breakfast tacos... I must thank Bob for this obsession with barbacoa that he has created for me. I've tried the potato/egg, chorizo, bacon/egg, etc etc, But after eating all the different types, I still run to my juicy, greedy, gift from the taco Gods, barbacoa! I must warn you, when I said GREEDY, I really meant it. It's a bit on the oily side, but if you choose to eat a taco in the morning, this is something you'll need to expect. Bob's Taco Haven. Bob's Taco House. Bob's Taco Planet. I always have wondered how Bob came up with this name. Family owned and operated, per the menu, since 1991, BTS is one of my favorites and I've missed it since becoming a city slicker. So I took a friend down out of the loop and we had a taste test of a few of my favorite taco places. I am surprised to see the poor reviews of this place. I've never had poor service here. And yeah, it's has some odds and ends on the wall but some are local memorabilia and a lot of them come from the military. Perhaps disgruntled Longhorn fans wrote those nasty comments cause I did notice lots of homage to that one one university a few miles to the north of us in College Station and none to the one in our state capital. As far as the taste of the tacos. Spot on. As the sign on the walls say, "If you're in a hurry, go to McDonald's or Taco Bell because everything is made from scratch." Personally, I'd go for the corn tortillas any day and their chorizo is great. I think whatever protein you get in a taco here should be accompanied with egg, potato, and cheese but that's just me, don't let me boss you around. Another thing that brings me back time and time again is the menudo. While there is that layer of fat to wrestle with, the actual tripe is at that right point of tenderness and the seasoning of the broth is great. Yup. Bob knows a thing or two about tacos. read more

The staff is super friendly, and the restaurant has a very FUN and super casual ambiance to it. Just outside the restaurant, they also have their cold treats. There's plenty of snow cone flavors and toppings to choose from and you can get very creative. One of my favorites is the Red Velvet Cake. Gotta say, I loved this place more than some of the more 'up market' Mexican places I've been to. Chips and salsa are well worth the $2, salsa has a kick, but it's delicious and I could have just eaten it with a spoon. In fact, I poured what was left over my entree. I had the pechuga de pollo, it was very tasty, a little overkill on the cilantro and string cheese, but the chicken was tasty, so was the rice and the tortillas. I also had a bite of my friends tamale (oh er!) and it was pretty darn tasty. I could have done with a side of the sauce they pour over the tamale for my dish, it was delicious. It was also relatively cheap, 2.5 of us ate, plus drinks and chips and salsa for around $35, though if you stick to tacos they run about $2 a piece. Staff were lovely (and even chased after us out to the car with my nieces sippy cup that we'd left behind) and the service was fast, in spite of the place being pretty busy at lunch time. Love this place, but today when I ordered tacos Togo, I was charged for their bob's sauce. When I asked if I get any with my order the gentleman checking me out said no, our sauce is hand made. I've never been charged for the sauce before so I don't know what happened. The sauce is what makes it soooo good, so I was a little taken back when he said I don't get any with my Togo order. Stopped by for lunch per my dads request....and OMG!! One of the BEST Mexican food spots I've ever had. I ordered the Chicharron Guisado plate, which is AMAZING. The tamales are fabulous! I recommend ordering tacos or tamales, as I found the enchiladas, etc. a bit greasy for my taste. The plain bean and cheese taco is probably my favorite. Simple, yet perfect! The snow cones are SOOO good! I ordered the Dreamsicle and it was fabulous. This is a 4 and not lower, because of the TAMALES!! They're definitely the best thing there! If you go there for a normal meal, don't expect the same deliciousness that you get on a take out order of their famous tamales. It is pretty standard, hole in the wall, tex-mex food. Recently, my manager and I had lunch over here at Bob's Tacos. We were in court and I was telling her how I have driven out here just for tacos. Right after court, we found ourselves here. The tacos here are great! Two or three will certainly fill you up (and totally worth it for the price). I usually get the barbacoa and beef. Ask for the green sauce, it's a game changer for the tacos. read more
