Recently my wife and I were accompanied by two other couples for our first trip to Bocca Osteria Romana. Our table was ready upon our arrival, but the service was somewhat lacking. The food was good, but the portions were a bit small considering the prices. When our orders werefinally ready to be served, each person's order came out at different times, mine was last. Since I am a slow eater, averyone else was through and looking at me to hurry up and finish. That night, I was only drinking water, not wine as was the rest of the table. The water glasses were very small, I wiuld guess about 4-6 ounces. I had to keep asking the waiter for more water (which was room temperature, no ice). I guess they just want to sell more wine?! Overall, Bocca was a nice place but with a lot of ambient noise. Would I go back a second time -- maybe. It's not like there is a shortage of upper end Italian food in Fort Worth. read more

Hands down some of the best Italian food I've ever had! We had lasagna, ragu, and focaccia. Everything was extremely tasty. We finished the meal with a chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream which was the perfect "cherry on top". When we come back to PR we will make sure we come back. One of the most friendly and warmest welcome from restaurant staff I've had in any restaurant I've been to in San Juan. The front house team here, is AMAZING and don't let any of them go! I was going to sit bar side but was a two top table open up and I was quickly accommodated. Food and drinks came at a perfect pace, even though it look as if every table but 1 was filled. Amazing Italian food Restaurant is nicely decorated and has good variety for an Italian restaurant in San Juan. Felt like I was back in Italy at an authentic Roman restaurant. No fusion food. Lots of staple dishes including carbonara, lasagna, calamari, eggplant, melon and prosciutto. The food was memorable, very filling and the perfect balance of flavors. Pumpkin flan was also very rich and was a good amount to split between 3 people. Only complaint was they charged for tap water. Never encountered this anywhere else in PR but it does add to the authenticity of the place as it's a common practice in Europe! We found this restaurant while exploring the neighborhood. We went in 1.5 hours before closing, and were seated immediately. The vibe of the restaurant was homey and intimate. The servers were extremely attentive, and pointed out multiple vegetarian options for me! The food was absolutely amazing. We're from San Francisco so we've had our fair share of authentic Italian food. The risotto tomato croquette was surprisingly light. The eggplant parmesan was cooked to perfection and the correct portion size. For the main course, I ordered the gnocchi, and my husband ordered the carbonara. We could tell that both pastas were made with fresh ingredients and were satisfyingly rich. The gnocchis were like little fluffy pillows. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate soufflé and vanilla ice cream. The soufflé had a molten chocolate center, but was slightly under done. The vanilla ice cream was a natural balance. If there are two things I'm keeping an eye out when traveling it is shareable portions and Italian. Bocca did not disappoint! We visited on a Sunday evening around 8pm and while it was a 20min wait we were able to enjoy drinks at the bar and to my delight watch the kitchen staff through the window. We ordered their specials of the night-- a side car and old fashion inspired cocktail, probably not the best in San Juan, but definitely satisfying enough. Finally after salivating over the delicious dishes coming out the kitchen we were seated. We promptly agreed on sharing the meatballs over mashed potatoes and two pasta dishes. The meatballs were amazing! I was worried they would be too small to satisfy us, but they were filling and the sauce was just amazing. Could do without the mashed potatoes though, I feel it takes away from the dish as is. Since this was Roman restaurant I knew we had to order the amatriciana. I still wish I had a piping hot plate of that pasta goodness in front of me! We also ordered the ragu and yes, it was also delicious. Neither dish was too acidic which is always a plus! We ended up having leftovers that we heated up the next day. Still delicious and not dry! I will definitely return on my next trip, but am deducting a star because service was pretty slow as many others have pointed out. I was looking for a local place serving Italian food and this was the spot! Neighborhood place, not touristy. Home made Italian food prepared by local owners/chef. Busy place - there was a wait (but we showed up early at perfect time and got seated right away). Not too much English spoken here, but that didn't cause any issues. Service was faster than we expected. (PR restaurant service is notoriously slow. So just chillax and enjoy!) Some dishes were a tad salty and maybe not exactly the taste I expected. A cute little Italian place with incredible food. It was busy on a Tuesday night. Nice ambience and service. We got the Mellanzana alla Parmigiana for the appetizer and it was delicious. The eggplant was cooked perfectly and the sauce was wonderful. Definitely the highlight of the meal. I got the Mushroom risotto which was good enough but had a lot of extra broth. My husband got the gnocchi; it was soft and melted in your mouth. They were out of Tiramisu (it was 10pm, so understandable). We got the chocolate soufflé with ice cream which was good as well.
