It was well worth the wait!!! My son wanted pizza and my wife and I wanted to walk around Old San Juan. This was the most popular pizza spot with the highest reviews. A brief aside: If you're driving here, expect a mess. Coming from SoCal, we make forays into DTLA and deal with similar stresses -- one way streets everywhere, dense traffic, extremely limited parking, pedestrians everywhere (many intoxicated and stumbling into traffic), potholes/construction, police closing lanes without reason, and stray cats running through the streets. Ubering here may be worthwhile! We had a 45 min wait, likely exacerbated by Spring break in PR. We used our free time to walk Calle de la Fortaleza -- very beautiful. They called my cell phone when the table was ready (don't forget to turn off your Spam blocker!). The interior is very unique and the place was buzzing. Service was slow, even by PR standards, and our waitress was the worst in the restaurant. She said little, brought us bottled water when we asked for tap, and never came back to check on us. We flagged other waiters for other incidentals like napkins and for our bill. The garlic knots and pizza were great. The pepperoni pizza was 10/10, with a fluffy crust but crispy otherwise. The Margherita pizza was average -- the tomato was sliced too thick and undercooked and the dough was soggy. In spite of some hiccups, the place was really good and I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt that a second trip would be better -- other tables had good service and the other waiters were very helpful. I'm still not sure if we were give bottled water because we were gringo tourists and they figured they'd up charge us or if it was an honest mistake.
The buñuelos de yautía were the best dish we ate tonight, though the breaded eggplant was delicious as well. The pizza rosada was good but needed more vodka sauce on it. The main issue was that the restaurant looks closed (the first floor and main entrance are always closed, lights off, padlocked with no sign). You have to walk around the side and go in a sketchy entrance that has bouncers. It's very odd.
Our experience here was just okay. We arrived around 7pm with no reservation and were told it would be a 1-1.5 hour wait, and every other restaurant around the area was the same wait time, so we waited. We got seated around 8:40pm. Not their fault it was a very busy night. The hostess managing reservations and the waitlist is SO sweet and patient. We asked for tap waters and was told their tap situation was currently "sketchy" so we ordered 2 bottled waters which ended up being $2 each. Our waiter didn't ever come back for our food order, and around 30 minutes later the sweet girl who sat us saw that we were still waiting, and she took our order. The inside is very cute so we enjoyed the ambiance around us. The arugula salad came out around 15 minutes later, and we absolutely scarfed it down because we were starving. It was absolutely delicious but not very big despite ordering the large. We did a half and half Grande pizza - the PIRILO (Homemade tomato sauce, mozzarella, ground beef, & ripe sweet plantains) and the pizza highly recommended by the gal taking our order - LA PAMPA (Homemade tomato sauce, mozzarella, Argentinian sausage, & skirt steak. Topped with chimichurri sauce.) Despite the pizza *looking* flavorful and delicious, somehow it tasted like nothing....I don't know if they just don't season their meats, but in a town full of beautifully marinated meats, these pizzas had absolutely no flavor. La Pampa was much better because the chimichurri seasoning gave it a bit of a salty taste, but the only thing at all I could taste on the Pirilo was the sweetness from the plantains in a couple bites. The cheese had no saltiness, the meat had no flavor, it was very confusing. I asked for the jarred parmesan and red pepper flakes I saw on some other tables, and the red pepper flakes were the only thing that gave the slices flavor. Maybe the other main dishes are better and the salad was certainly delicious, but I wouldn't recommend the pizza at all.
Great place to have a pizza. The house pina colada is one of the best I have had. Definitely a great place for some good pizza and couple drinks. Staff is great. All are friendly and tentative to your table and request.
I came here with my family of 5 and we all had a good time. The food came out quickly, the server was sweet and patient, the restaurants atmosphere was calm and a vibe with the moody lights and colorful accents. I got the mushroom ravioli dish with pink sauce and steak (this was fantastic! Highly recommend) we also got the garlic knots for the table and those were yummy but not a must order. This place is great for a yummy dinner with a nice dinning experience, but bring a coat because the restaurant was very cold.
Authentic Italian Gem in the Heart of Old San Juan We visited the Old San Juan location -- rustic, cozy vibe with amazing service. We started off with some local beer and Pinacolada. For appetizer , we got the spinach empanadas which came with a delicious cilantro sauce For main course, we ordered gnocchi in a creamy pesto. This gnocchi was hands down the best we've ever had! That sauce, ahhh!!! Also loved the personal pizza (Margherita + Basilica). Definitely a good spot for vegetarians. Can't wait to go back for gnocchi before we leave Puerto Rico. Large selection of wine, beer and other cocktails. Parking is difficult. Also, not sure if there is dining area downstairs as well since we were seated upstairs so not wheelchair friendly.
I've been coming here for a few years now when I cruise out of PR and the pizza is amazingly good. I also get the chicken lasagna. This time the lasagna was a little too cheesy for my liking. Gabby the bartender was awesome. Such a good bartender. It's always busy so keep that in mind. I'll be back. Location is in the center of old San Juan. Keep in mind that it gets busy starting around 7pm.
What a delightful place. Wonderful local pizzeria with a great local flavor. The service was excellent and the food was perfect. Highly recommend.
We LOVE this place, great pizza and tapas. The pizzas are 10/10, we tried the rosada and the pecado, wow! The drinks are also 10/10, the sangria, one of the best! The mojito (acerola) a bit sweet but good. The tapa, very small for the price, but they are tapas. We tries the humus, only comes with 5 chips not enough for all the humus, we got order and pay for extra chips (so good) but still not enough, so i'll skip the tapas if u sharing, don't seem worth it in my opinion unless u willing to over pay. Staff were super friendly, just not attentive at all, we didn't see our waitress from when we order until we had to pay, but we call other staff when we needed stuff and they all were quick to help and super friendly. We will for sure come again when visiting.
Don't be put off by the dingy staircase entrance -- it's not the most inviting first impression, but once you reach the top, you'll find a charming little pizza restaurant that's definitely worth the climb. We had about a 30-minute wait for a table. The staff mentioned they'd call us when our table was ready, but we ended up checking back in after a short walk and were seated upstairs. The service was friendly and efficient, and the food came out in good time. We started with the arugula salad with balsamic dressing -- fresh, well-balanced, and delicious. For mains, we ordered the chicken lasagna and a 16-inch pizza. The lasagna was delicious! Super cheesy! The great thing about their pizzas is that you can do half-and-half, so we went with pepperoni on one side and margherita on the other. My husband loved how cheesy the pizza was. I personally thought it could've used a touch more salt, but the flavors were still solid. Overall, it's a great little spot for a casual date night -- cozy atmosphere, good service, and tasty food. Don't judge this one by the entrance!
This has to be the best deal on the island! 2 for $5 beers! And some great small plates also at great prices! Sat at the bar and service was excellent.

Pirilo is the best pizza place you'll ever find in Old San Juan! I was so excited to be back, that I forgot to take a picture of our pepperoni pie!!! We also had the Caprese salad and pulpo à la gallega (so very tasty)!!! Service is on point, great atmosphere to go with family and friends. read more

If you're walking by, this restaurant would be very easy to miss. The entrance looks like a doorway leading to a stairwell or service entrance, and I honestly didn't even notice a sign. Luckily, there was a gentleman outside directing people in, otherwise we may have walked right past it. Once you climb the two flights of stairs, you're rewarded with a beautiful dining space. The restaurant has a rustic, old-world charm with gorgeous décor and an Italian-inspired atmosphere. It immediately felt warm and inviting. There were four of us dining, and we started with two appetizers: the Setas Rellenas and the Chorizo al Vino. Both were excellent, but the Chorizo al Vino was my absolute favorite--absolutely delicious! For my entrée, I ordered the chicken lasagna. I expected chunks of chicken, but it was made with shredded chicken, and wow--it was incredible. The flavor was outstanding, and it ended up being one of my favorite meals of our trip. My husband ordered the beef lasagna, which was also made with shredded beef rather than traditional ground beef. He absolutely loved it. Our friends ordered the Milanesa de Berenjena and the Milanesa de Pollo with a side of gnocchi, and both raved about their meals as well. Since nearly every table seemed to be ordering pizza, we knew we had to try one. We ordered a small pizza for the table, and each of us had a slice. Now we understand why they're known for their pizza--it was fantastic! A special shoutout to our server, Rouil Rodz, who was attentive, friendly, and provided excellent service throughout the evening. Don't let the unassuming entrance fool you. This restaurant is a hidden gem with a beautiful atmosphere, outstanding food, and excellent service. If you're visiting Old San Juan, I highly recommend adding it to your list. read more

Pirilo was recommended by some friends and it was well worth the 40min wait. Staff was friendly and host were attentive. If you aren't paying attention you'll walk right by the entrance. The restaurant decor is warm and welcoming and the noise level was comfortable enough to have a conversation at the table and not feel like we were yelling. As for the food we order Garlic knots to start... DELISH!!!! Now being from NY the standard for pizza is high. Let's just say Pirilo will satisfy any pizza lover. The flavor selections were great. We got the Pecado (Meat-lovers) which was delicious great selection of meats. The second pizza was the Vegetales and it was just as good had plenty for leftovers. Huge selection of beers on tap and the cocktails were good as well. From la Mamma (Mojito) and the Margarepa (Margarita) both delicious with their own twist on each as seen in the names. If you're in old San Juan this is a spot you must try in your travels. read more
To get to the restaurant you walk up the stairs into a beautiful, romantic space. The service was really quick, we sat, ordered, and ate all in 40 minutes total. The food was delicious and we are so happy we got what we ordered. The churrasco was very flavorful and the rice was so delicious I couldn't eaten another plate! Who doesn't love brink oven pizza! This old joint decor is great! Yes you have to go up some stairs which is unfortunate for any disabled or older people but for those who can try it! Ambiance decor pizza delivers % satisfaction!!! read more

A nice find for lunch while our family spent the day visiting Old San Juan. At first glance, you wouldn't know that it also has quite a few Spanish dishes in case you're in the mood for more than just Italian. We also made reservations online beforehand after reading reviews that it's popular and oftentimes on a wait. Highly recommend the Empanadillitas Sampler (we ordered 2 of these) and their Pulpo as starters! These were great hits with our group. If you're in the mood for pizza, they have a good amount of recipes and you can order half-half with any of them when ordering the 16" grande size. Tried and true options we ordered were the Margarita and El Pecado but regrettably, the Di Genonveva could've been better. The latter had fully cooked smoked salmon which was odd to me and way too much onions. Overall, a great option for pizza in the area and very family friendly! read more
We were not that hungry, so wanted a snack, and decided to try this place. The entrance is easy to miss and you walk up a set of stairs to the restaurant. We ordered an appetizer of three assorted empanadillas, and they were excellent. The service was really good as well. The place seems popular, so I wish we had time to go back and try the pizzas! read more

As usual, Pirilo hit the spot. I was between the 4 Cebollas and Mucho Mushrooms. I de used for the 4 cebollas. It was a good choice. The onions used were red, white, Visalia, and green onions. Next time I'll try the Mucho Mushroom. I forgot the name of our server, but she was very nice. We went on a Saturday evening and had to wait about 45 min to be seated. When we left there was a line outside the door. Best to make a reservation if you can. read more

Had it on our last night in San Juan. Made a reservation. Make sure to take the entrance on the side, not the front as they're not using the first floor. Fritters were the best made of plantain and served with cilantro sauce. Will be coming back. read more

The pizza is top-tier; the marinara is fresh and delicious. I had the arugula salad which was amazing. My kid had a calzone as big as her head that was superb. read more
Loved this place. The service was incredible and the food was amazing. Cool place with welcoming atmosphere and cool decor on the walls. Prices were great for the proportions we got! Plus a good selection of drinks and food. Def be back! read more

In town for a cruise and found what felt like a hole in the wall. Unassuming sign and door on a side street, up a few steps to a great atmosphere, sat at the bar and staff was welcoming and friendly. Had the EMPANADILLITAS ARGENTINAS starter and EL PECADO Pizza for dinner and both were delicious the El PECADO has tomato sauce, mozzarella, bacon, ground meat, Spanish sausage, skirt steak, ham, & Argentinian sausage. Well made drinks (the kind that can get you into trouble if you're not careful) had to try a UN COCOTAZO a PIRILO STYLE PIÑA COLADA and a Rum and Coke both great. NFL playoff was on and they gave a customer the tv remote and let them search until they found the game. read more
