I had a good experience with cleaning my teeth, but when I chipped a molar that had an older crown last summer the dentist here damaged a nerve when replacing the crown. My tooth has been sensitive to cold and pressure ever since. It was fine before. Now I need a very expensive root canal. Bococa Dental has never apologized to me for causing such pain and expense. They simply told me "this sometimes happens." So Bococa Dental made an appointment for me at their office with an endodontist to do a root canal. Since my dental expenses with this practice exhausted my insurance coverage for 2021, my appointment was today (1/7/22) at 9:00. Bococo Dental included an appointment reminder in a statement they mailed to me dated 10/15/21. When I called their office at 8:00 on this snowy morning they told me my appointment had been canceled, and that "they tried to leave me several messages last August." I never received any such message by phone, text, or mail. So I am switching to another dentist. Horrible experience in so many ways. Note: after I posted this the dentist who owns the practice wrote and called me to apologize for mishandling my appointment. I appreciated the call. Hands down the best experience at a Dentists office! I walked in and was promptly greeted with a lovely gift bag. What a lovely touch! The staff was extremely friendly and attentive as I rescheduled my cleaning appt several times because of my schedule. The could not have been more helpful and patient with me. Dr O'Connor is an incredible doctor. She took so much time with me, examining every tooth, was extremely thorough and answered all of my questions. She was very gentle and mindful of my sensitive gums and just general fear of going to the dentist. Her suggestions far exceeded my expectations. She is wonderful! The office is very boutique style, spotless and incredibly clean with all of the most state of the art equipment. I also had two teeth bonded that had a few small chips, she did an amazing job and it looks fantastic. She also had wonderful suggestions on oral care that no other dentist had ever suggested to me. I could not have been happier! Absolutely never going anywhere else! What a relief to finally find a fabulous neighborhood dental practice! I would come here even if I moved to the city. I came to BoCoCa Dental for a root canal and to have a crown placed - two typically scary treatments - and I'm here to write a five star review! How many people would do that for their dentist? Everyone at BoCoCa Dental was helpful and informative from the front desk staff to the hygienists to Dr. Gangi. The doctor who performed the root canal (regrettably I'm forgetting his name) was patient with my scaredy-cat concerns, but without babying me. The whole thing was done in 45 minutes and virtually painless. I returned two weeks later to have a crown placed on a badly chipped tooth and here's the cool part ... everything is done in-house. BoCoCa Dental is completely state-of-the-art, complete with a 3D printer to print my new tooth. Pretty cool stuff! I watched Dr. Gangi tool around with some CAD-looking software, designing my tooth, and I said, "I'm guessing they don't teach you this in dental school." Nope. Dr. Gangi took the time to make sure the bite was aligned, making adjustments until it was just right. Another thing I appreciate is that there were no surprise charges. Margaret at the front desk broke down exactly what I can expect to pay before I arrived. The pricing was fair in my opinion. Folks, you don't want to go to a bargain-basement dentist. That's how I ended up with a chipped tooth in the first place. There are a few things in life you shouldn't cheap out on (sushi, shoes, daycare...) and dental work is definitely one of them. Just had my first appointment at Bococa Dental and was impressed with the whole experience and every member of the staff. They were very thorough, starting with welcoming me in and giving me a tour, through x-rays, scanning, teeth cleaning, and future scheduling. Kristi, my hygienist, was especially friendly and knowledgeable, taking me through everything she was doing and eloquently explaining various conditions. Our family normally goes to a different dentist, but with the pandemic we decided to opt for a practice within walking distance for cleaning and routine check ups this time around. First we took our daughter for an appointment. Rosette, the hygienist, was not great with our four year old. She did a poor job of putting her at ease and interacting with her during her check up. One expects better attitude from the employees at a clinic that regularly sees children. I went in for an appointment myself a few days later. Unfortunately, it looks like Rosette is not great when it comes to interacting with adults either. Even though I explained that I experience sensitivity, she was incredibly rough during my cleaning. I had to stop her in the middle and ask her to be gentle while she was flossing my teeth way more forcefully than what should be needed. I indicated to her that I have sensitive teeth and pieces of my teeth tend to break off easily. To my surprise, she dismissed my comment, curtly saying "It will be ok", and continued in exactly the same way. I had to stop her again. It is concerning that she didn't seem interested at all in listening to the patient. The fact that she did invest a good deal of energy into upselling extras not covered by my insurance is also problematic. Today is day five after the cleaning and I am still experiencing discomfort, which had never happened to me this long after a cleaning before. Much to my disappointment, a piece broke off from my tooth soon after I left my appointment. Not surprising, given her unnecessarily violent cleaning and flossing. I definitely will not be going back. read more

My father is a dentist and for the last 30 (+) years he is the only dentist who I have had the confidence to trust my dental care to...but he is in NC and I've lived in Brooklyn for 15 (+) years and it was time to find a local dentist and I AM SO SO SO SO SO EXCITED THAT I FOUND BoBoCa Dental! I went for a cleaning and was so impressed I immediately booked cleanings for my husband and my son. It was my son's very first "well dental" toddler check-up and everyone in the office from the front desk to the hygienist to Dr. Gangi were all super with my toddler and had a great presentation to make him feel at ease. They were gentle and thorough and very patient. They even offered him his choice of little "presents" after his cleaning. I was especially taken by the "spa like" feel of the whole practice. Everything is stunningly clean and bright and welcoming. They have an iPad fixed above the dental chair so you can select any Netflix show you want to watch while you get your teeth cleaned (my son especially liked that he could watch Chuggington while they looked at his teeth). The waiting room had a wide assortment of kid books but there has been NO WAIT TIME AT ALL on the three times that my family has been to Dr. Gangi. The front desk staff is top notch: great at collecting insurance information ahead of the appointment so there is minimal paperwork needed on the day of the appointment. I especially appreciated that they checked my dental insurance coverage benefits in ADVANCE and notified my of my anticipated coverage so there would be time for me to think about my financial options. read more

I always dread finding a new dentist/going to the dentist in general but this was the most pleasant experience I've had with healthcare! Everyone in the office was so sweet and welcoming! They were not listed in network for my dental coverage but they took care of calling my insurance ahead of time to know what was covered. When I arrived, they gave me a gift bag with some burts bees goodies for being a new patient. They also gave me a quick tour and explained everything which put my mind at ease (what different equipment was, every procedure, and the use/purpose of each tool). There was an iPad set up above the exam table that you could pick a show to watch. They also had an app on the iPad with visuals to show exactly how build up affects the bone and your gums and how to remediate it. I usually hate the infamous, condescending, scolding about flossing you usually get but my hygienist was so sweet and just told me I should "step up my flossing game", so I did not feel uncomfortable. I have to go back for additional work, and the receptionist told me what the cost of my copay would be up front so I would know what to expect. I would highly recommend Bococa Dental for anyone looking for a dentist and it seems like they would be great for kids too. read more

I cracked a tooth down to the root and the resulting tooth ache had to be addressed - in Nov 2020, during the pandemic. ugh. I did not want to go into Manhattan (no subway rides for me) so I looked around Brooklyn and, based on reviews, decided to try Bococa Dental. So glad I did. From the very first visit, to the stubborn tooth i had extracted and the subsequent implant procedure, I was delighted with everyone I encountered along the way. Such pleasant people. And I felt I was in very competent hands. I was impressed by the state-of-the-art software used to image my teeth, and build a new crown. Really neat. All charges were clearly explained prior to any work being done: no surprises. There were clearly Covid-protocols in place so I felt safe. I've dealt with dentists in Manhattan for years and this has been my best experience so far. I highly recommend Bococa Dental. And they seem to work well with children. I have never once written a review for anything ever. Until now. This was hands down the best dental experience I ever had. Such amazing service that it would feel unethical not to write something. My visit was two months ago, and we have since moved to California. But still. Super clean place. Lovely receptionists and hygienist. High tech space. Watched Louie on Apple TV while I had my teeth cleaned. They gave me a welcome gift and a parting gift. I actually thoroughly enjoyed the visit. To the dentist. Think about that for a second. I love this place. After a regrettable absence in dental care from my time in grad school I was happy to find a dentist here in BK who I feel is current with new practices and gentle with my very terrible teeth. He has spent the last two years basically rebuilding my teeth - from repairing and replacing old falling apart fillings to filling new holes. My teeth ALL look and feel great. He has great follow up care and attentiveness and I find him very personable, with a great sense of humor. The staff are wonderful - capable and cheerful, and the receptionists proactive (an excellent attribute for a dental receptionist, I believe). The office is spotless and welcoming. I was also thrilled to get to watch the entire first season of Orange is the New Black on the iPad setup. I look forward to my next cleaning, and the start of season 2! read more

I'm a bit of a walking dental disaster (due to some bad experiences in the past and insurance snags from years of freelance work) so finding a dentist is always difficult. Dr. Gangi was recommended to me by a friend when I had some pretty obvious cavity issues. Setting up an appointment went smoothly, Edina was very helpful and worked with me to get a visit in on relatively short notice. The office was nice and peaceful, and the staff was friendly. Dr. Gangi was very helpful and informative. He took some x rays and pinpointed the problem teeth, demonstrating the really bad spots and highlighting some possible issues to keep an eye out for in the near future. He took the time to show me the x-rays (along with a copy) and explain everything clearly. Dr. Gangi asked me what I wanted to do, gave his recommendations, and we set up a plan of action. Two more visits in subsequent weeks, and two bad cavities patched up painlessly (no problems since). I found his manner to be reassuring and non-pushy, he gave me some options to choose from. I just enrolled with some real dental insurance and am looking forward to going back and getting some regular care w/ Bococa. read more

Going to the dentist is not usually pleasant but the staff and team here are fantastic. Friendly, upbeat, funny, engaged, and smart. If I have to have my mouth prodded and my teeth scraped until my gums bleed, I wouldn't want to do it anywhere else. Major plus is that the facility is super clean and and the equipment is topnotch. Coming to Bococa is such a pleasure. The staff are all amazing here. I was already seeing a pretty great dentist already, but after coming in for a checkup, regarding a tooth I have that was showing recession, I already booked my next cleaning here. Everything is clean and they've got really cute art decorating their office which makes it feel like you aren't at the dentist, haha! Every person I interacted with was kind and courteous from the front office to the hygenists, and dentist/periodontist. They are very patient in answering your questions, and make sure you know exactly what is going on or what they're doing. You know how everyone hates going to the dentist? Well Bococa Dental is far and away the closest you will ever come to actually *enjoying* it (never thought I'd say that). The receptionists are extraordinarily nice, patient, and helpful (without exaggeration, Tai helped me through a SIX-MONTH insurance debacle, and she was never anything less than cheerful and positive). The hygienists are all very accommodating, easygoing, and excellent. Meanwhile, Dr. Gangi himself is not only kind and friendly, but he also has a very calming presence that immediately puts you at ease. He explains what he's doing as he works so you understand where you are in the process, and I'm pretty sure he's as gentle as a dentist can get. BONUS: You watch Netflix while they work, so the time flies (even while getting fillings). This is hands-down the best dentist's office ever. read more

I was committed to my former dentist, but after years of schlepping to the Upper East Side, I decided it was time to go local. And how glad I am that I did! Dr. Gangi himself is really so wonderful. We highly recommend Dr. Gangi. We had been seeing another dentist in our area prior to going to Bococa Dental. I was concerned that our previous dental office was not being careful enough with check-ups and cleaning. It turned out we were right and fortunate to find Dr. Gangi. Apparently accurate detection of cavities can be difficult. My 6 year old had 4 cavities that were missed by our dentist! Dr. Gangi was concerned that they may have required root canals, and since she also had two adult teeth growing in behind her baby teeth that needed extraction, he said we could return to him or he would be happy to refer us for another opinion. We went to another dentist that specialized in pediatric dentistry that confirmed Dr. Gangi's diagnosis and he recommended we do general anesthesia in a hospital because of the extent of work and her age. Dr. Gangi was kind, sensitive and professional and led us in the right direction to do the dental work my child required. We were all quite happy and fortunate that we went to see him. read more

Bococa Dental is wonderful. Dr. Gangi is kind, attentive, and really cares about his patients. I've been there for both routine cleanings and to have cavities filled. They are fast and gentle. The hygienists and staff treat you like family. Also, not that it should really matter, but the office is cheerful and well decorated, and puts you in a happy mood to match your freshly cleaned teeth.
