I have been a huge Bodega fan for years now! The atmosphere here is fun and lively and there are plenty of great tables inside or outside to enjoy your meal. The staff is friendly, and I have never had to wait too long for my order, even on a busy weekend lunch hour. I am afraid my food review might be a little one noted as I always get the same thing - the lechon plate. I can't bring myself to try anything else because I enjoy this dish so much! It comes with a good portion of juicy, shredded lechon (pork) that is topped cooked onions. I have ordered the plate sides a variety of ways. The standard sides are maduros (cooked yellow plantains) and rice and beans. I usually substitute the rice and beans for one of the tasty slaws on the menu - jicama slaw or sweet and spicy slaw. The jicama slaw has rough chopped jicama, red onions, bell peppers, cucumbers and mangos. The sweet and spicy slaw is green cabbage based with some rough chopped red onion and red bell pepper as well. The drinks here are really good too. They offer fresh squeezed juices, soda frescas, coffee drinks and alcoholic cocktails. I mostly order a soda fresca with my meal - it is refreshing and not too sweet. My favorite is a 50/50 mix of the hibiscus and lime flavors. Be sure to check Bodega out if you are hungry and in the St. Pete area! read more

Bodega is counter service, although in my experience it might more aptly be named "counter," because there wasn't really any service. My grandfather asked if an empty table could be cleared for us (there was a bunch of dishes on it), and after waiting about five minutes my brother and I just opted to clean it ourselves. After another five minutes there was still no one in sight so we grabbed a wet rag from the serving station and wiped it down ourself too. The food was good, but at the end of the experience we ordered our free cafecito for our Yelp Check In and Bodega proceeded to just... not make it. So 10 minutes later we went to check on it and the counter guy said "oh yeah" and made it for us. No apology or anything. I think it warrants four stars because the food and vibes were genuinely good, but the service element was definitely iffy. read more

Bartenders and waitstaff were very friendly and helpful when ordering food and drinks. I tried the "Frita" sandwich- a Cuban style burger patty (beef and pork), avocado, tomato, potato sticks, and spicy mayo on a bun. I thought the meat patty was both cooked and seasoned perfectly, and all the ingredients were unique and blended together so well. Every bite was packed with flavor. What a gem of a place. My friend who was visiting from out of town was RAVING about Bacon Bitch, the establishment next door as he had been to another one in a different location, however, they were unable to take walk-ins at the time we were trying to go. This happened to be the best fortune for everyone as Bodega was right next door and we were on the verge of being ravenously hungry. I was a bit skeptical at first with the small menu and extremely good prices (though, I suppose this is typically the sign of a place that does food well). The cashier/waitress/all purpose staff eased my skepticism with kindness and explanations on any questions I had about the food/drink menu. I ended up ordering the Lechon Plato and it was SUPERB. Mouth watering slow roasted pork seasoned to perfection with a side of perfectly cooked rice and black beans and sweet plantains that had just the right amount of sweet with a fantastic texture. My friend got the Cuban while my gf got the lechon sandwich. Those were also both excellent, though I am very happy I went with the Lechon Plato. I would go back just for the rice and beans tbh but everything hit just right from the service, to the ambiance, to the food itself. Will be back here when in St. Pete! read more

My experience is solely based on ordering coffee from the outdoor window, which I found awful. We were about to head back home from St. Pete when I had the idea of walking to Bodega to grab a couple of iced coffees. Seems simple enough. Apparently, it wasn't for the guy who took our order. For starters, I asked for an iced cafe americano in which I was automatically told I wanted a cafe con Leche, which I didn't. I stated I wanted a cafe americano again iced in which he proceeded to talk down to me as if I were an idiot. It's almost as if he didn't hear me and I did something wrong. When I realized he was putting in two iced cafe con Leche orders, I corrected and said I wanted an iced cafe americano with no sugar. After it seemed like we cleared up the drink order, we went inside to pick up our order, the girl who made the drinks came back with a hot cafe americano for me, which I had asked for an iced one. At this point, I was not in the mood to deal with the guy who took the order standing no more than two feet from her as he resembled the soup guy from the TV show Seinfeld. Just a lousy experience when all I wanted was an iced americano to go and felt like the only drink I could order that was iced, according to the guy, was a Cafe con Leche. I was only in town for a wedding weekend, but this is the bride & groom's favorite restaurant (and I love Cuban food) so I had to check it out. It had a very cute interior and very friendly staff. For breakfast, I got their Cafe Con Leche (STRONG cuban coffee with steamed milk) and a guava and cheese pastelito (which wasn't warm & super fresh, but still very good.) For lunch, we opted to split 2 sandwiches: the Lechon (cuban style roast pork, garlic mojo, grilled onions, and cilantro) and the Pollo Asado (coconut marinated chicken, mayo mango, avocado, fresnos, fresh mango, cilantro, and jicama). While I have to say that the cuban style roast pork was DELICIOUS, I preferred all the flavors and texture differences in the Pollo Asado sandwich. We also had to get a side of maduros, because I'm a huge plantain-anything fan. These were thicker than I normally get at restaurants, so you could really taste the banana flavor (may or may not be good depending on your preferences.) Most people seem to want to sit outdoors under their bright yellow umbrellas. Dogs are allowed in the outdoor dining area. At peak times finding seating outside can be a challenge. Do not fret they have an abundance of air conditioned seating inside to choose from. There is bar seating, tables, or booths.
