    Paella

Asked some locals what a great spot to eat was and they recommend this wonderful little place. It is a very tight space but quaint and lovely. The paella lived up to all expectations! The service was phenomenal, they really treat you like family.

I came across this hole-in-the-wall restaurant while I was walking back to my hostel, and I had to stop by after reading that they offered oxtail at only around €10. Bodega Vasconia was founded in 1905, so they've been doing something right. When I got there in the early afternoon, I was the only non-Spanish speaking person in the restaurant. Service was excellent. The waiters frequently conversed over the counter with the customers, and they also checked in on me about how I enjoyed my food. This was my first time trying oxtail, and it was so delicious. Oxtail goes back all the way to Roman times. It's often slow-cooked so the meat is fall-off-the-bone tender with hints of garlic and red wine. Be sure to use the free bread to soak up the remaining gravy once you're done.

We started with Clara( beer with lemon soda), great summer refreshing, after that we had a glass of house rioja. Amazing tapas like, pulpo a lá gallega, (octopus)almejas ( clams), navajas a lá plancha(razor clam), anchovas cantabrico ( anchovies). All delicious!

Why we went here: good ratings on google (4.5), TripAdvisor and ok rating at yelp What we ordered: Sepia grilled (13€) and paella for two (26€). No drinks What was good: sepia was ok, service was nice Why my bad rating: the paella was very disappointing. It was completely undercooked and almost raw. I don't mind chewy rice but this was simple not ready. The amount of fish was also pretty low and end up eating only rice almost (4 tiny shrimps, 4 mussels, some squids. That's it).

This was our first stop on a food and wine tour of barcelona. Even though our interaction with the staff was very short because our tour guide did most of the talking, the staff was very friendly. We got some bread with topped with tomato and jam on. So simple, but it hit the spot. Mostly because I was starving and the jam on was fresh. This is such a cute little spot and very casual. The ambience is casual, chatty (?)...why I'm trying to say is that it's not one of those bars where you can't see or hear the person sitting across from you.

In summary: food here is overrated. Tried the paella which was undercooked so much so that we could hear the rice under our teeth. It consisted of mostly rice and barely any seafood. There was not a single mussel or shrimp in it. This was the most disappointing paella I've ever had. Staff were very friendly and attentive.

Best Tapas in Spain! We had their Oxtail, buttered cod with sauce , potatas bravas, anchovies, calamari and Iberian ham. Owner even gave us chupitos (digestive shots) on the house! Located in the alleys of the gothic quarter creates An authentic feel and ambiance.

Solid place in the gothic quarter, one of our favorites in the city! Sometimes a short wait but oxtail and normal tapas are the go to

Very flavorful and fast experience. Oxtail and mashed potatoes 10/10: the oxtail meet is so tender and flavorful. The mashed potatoes pair so well with the oxtail. Mushroom, steak, and egg yolk 9/10: soo flavorful and balance of veggies and protein. Amazing textures and flavors. Sparkling sangria: 8/10 I don't normally live the taste of alcohol but this was great. Not tooooo strong and if tastes pretty good if you mix it with the orange juice. Fresh orange juice: 10/10 so tangy and delicious. I can't recommend it enough. Patatas bravas: 9/10 solid no complaints! Dessert Tapas: - bread dessert (Tarija): 11/10 amazing dessert that is creamy, cameralized, and has a mochi like texture. This fried chewy dessert is not too sweet and such an affordable price. - coconut pudding 9/10 solid and refreshing if you like flan - bread, chocolate oil, salt 7/10: I live the complex flavors. The chocolate mousse was light and the bread to mousse ratio was perfect. It's a smaller dessert tho I wouldn't recommend it if ur sharing. Service: amazing! The feta cheese was absolutely disgusting, it tasted like imitation rubber cheese. - The "Al Ajillo" Style Shrimps (GAMBES AMB ALLADA) had a very strange flavor within it, which overwhelmed the garlic flavors. - The Beef Tenderloin (FILET VEDELLA), she had to spit 1/4 of it out because it was too tough. - Everything was overpriced there for the value. Be careful ladies! The street outside this resturant is not safe in my estimation. I mean my beautiful daughter did get chased by "a newer uninvited resident." Inside? The best resturant in the city. Maybe in all of Spain. I could make a case for it to be THE BEST RESTURANT ON EARTH. (Except that title goes to Commanders Palace in New Orleans or Caviar Kaspia in Paris. But maybe not.) Great service. Great food. Great feeling place. Drawbacks? The neighborhood. The entrance to get in is AWFUL. The place is always too crowded and it can get very loud. Husband had house red wine (3.50 euros) and I had sangria (4.50 euros). Good pours for both. We started with the red shrimp (gambillos) in a lemongrass sauce, about 6 shrimp for 15 euros. Then grilled octopus (which was very tender) over mash potatos and snap peas for 15 euros. We also had a side of grilled bread (4 pieces) for 3.5. We also ordered the Pepita beef with mash potato but took home for dinner as we were full (18 euros). We finished with the homemade corn ice cream with carmelized popcorn and raspberries, which was very unique at 6.5. We added our names to the wall to top off the meal. Service was quick and friendly.
