Bodhi is a small, elevated Thai restaurant that is only open for 4-5 hours in the evening and they take no reservations and they take no call ahead seating. So when you get there and join the line right when they open at 5pm and get seated right away, you feel like you are winning at life! And then the food shows up at your table and you discover that you did. You won at life! Amazing as always! I love that there's now reservations! One new change since I'd been last year is that there's now a 90 minute time limit. I don't mind this. I went with three friends and we were done before the 90 minutes was up. Service was as friendly and great as always! I did set the reservation for the dining room, but it was so nice out when we went that we asked if we could be seated on the patio instead. That was no issue as there was a table available! That was fantastic! I tried the No-Sin-Aree mocktail. It was so so so good! Not too sweet which was perfect for me! We all split an order of the spring rolls and crab puffs. Both were amazing! For my main dish I got the shrimp glass noodles with the 3/4 pepper heat scale. It was definitely mouth tingling and caused a runny nose type of hot. So good though! I always appreciate how they describe the heat scale! And how almost everything can be adjusted for heat level. Not the curries though! Those have a set heat level. But love this place as always! We were excited to meet our Indianapolis family here for dinner. They don't take reservations and the place relatively small. We recommend showing up before they open and either starting or get into the already building line. The food is worth waiting in line in order to guarantee a table. There were six of us. We were seated at a table right in front of the bar. It was comfortable, even though some of our backs were to a walkway for both staff and customers. I never felt like I was in the way and I don't remember getting bumped in the back as people passed. The server was kind and helpful. We never felt rushed. Everyone enjoyed their meals, but I can only speak to my meal and Mark's. I had the Braised Beef Massaman & Naan, or Massaman Neua Toon - silk road spices * carrot * fingerling potato * naan bread. The meal was extraordinary in every way. The spice level was perfect and the flavors were complex and well developed. The naan was the perfect dipping companion to ensure no drop of deliciousness was left behind. Mark had Chicken Pad Thai or Pad Thai Gai - rice noodle * onions * tamarind sauce * sweet radish egg * peanut * bean sprout * red cabbage. Mark always orders Pad Thai when it's on the menu. After months of seeing Bodhi mentioned across every foodie feed and earning praise from even USA Today (not necessarily a reliably known expert), we decided to see if the fuss was worth it. We did leave with full stomachs, and one burning question, "Were we missing something?" The decor was cool-- and a nice bar that is available for seating as well. The tables are set up close together. There is a patio area available for seating, and it's fairly large and in nice weather it is a good spot. The Pineapple Green Mango Mezcal cocktail was delicious but at $16 it was overpriced and a surprisingly tiny pour. They have a selection of beers on tap, and I enjoyed the Hefeweizen with dinner. Now, the food. We had the grilled pork skewers, chicken wings, cashew chicken, and the massaman braised beef curry & naan. Only the curry could justify a shout out. The marinated grilled pork skewers @ $14 consisted of four skewers of, sorry to report, tasteless flattened meat, accompanied by a cucumber onion chutney and a peanut dipping sauce. The peanut sauce almost made up for the jaw-tiring pork. But the tough meat was pretty inexcusable, and the marinade was MIA and didn't add anything. The chicken wings (6 pieces @ $15) were nicely prepared and crisp, but nothing about them stands out. The sweet chili sauce accompanying the wings tasted like Mae Ploy bottled sauce that is available everywhere (nothing wrong with that but I expected more). The cashew chicken @ $19 is a large serving and while I hoped it would be the best representation of this classic dish, the chicken was bland and overcooked white meat. It was just no better than what you would find in less trendy restaurants. The single standout was the Massaman Curry and Naan. The curry was delicious. I suggest adding the jasmine rice to your curry order because the two tiny pieces of naan that come with the curry isn't enough. Still, this one bright spot of the Massaman doesn't rescue an otherwise underwhelming meal. The service was confounding. They make a point of politely explaining that you must finish within 90 minutes (3 turns per night I assume) so I expected promptness in delivery. While the appetizers came to the table quickly, we did not understand why the entrées took so long and we had arrived for the first sitting, and were among the first few seated. Note: we arrived at 4:30 (and sat on a bench outside) so that we could get a table when they opened at 5 pm. Note: you will not be seated if your full party is not present. The servers were all extremely friendly and excellent. With great anticipation, you see a lovely patio area as you walked up to this restaurant. As we got closer we see this roped off area instructing you what to do before entering the restaurant. You walk in to see the hostess wiping down menus. She then asks us for identification and tells us we have a 90 minute time limit on a Thursday night at 8:15 pm. My feeling of this place fizzled a bit before I had anything to eat. Once seated, we ordered right away. Under Savory Bites we had Pork Skewers $14. They were fine. Shrimp Cocktail $16 with an interesting spicy sauce. We also ordered a Papaya Salad for the table. That salad was the hit so far. For our entrees we ordered the Chili and Basil Steak $22, Braised Beef Massaman and Naan $24, and Ginger Chicken $19. Both the ginger chicken and braised beef were very good. The Chili and Basil Steak was unbelievably salty, almost to the point of being uneatable. After getting our entrees we were able to flag down our waitress to remind her about our drinks that we ordered right away when we sat down but haven't received . Later, when paying the bill our waitress held on to the bill machine as I tried to look it over. All in all this is a nice restaurant that we probably won't be going back to. read more

BODHI was truly an exceptional experience. The Thai cuisine and cocktails were so well done and this was the highlight of my visit to Indianapolis. The Mangrove Guardian was such a delicious cocktail, you really taste all the ingredients and it's not too sweet. It was like drinking a perfectly balanced spicy Thai margarita, with added foam texture from the egg white. The Thai chili was noticeable but wasn't too spicy. The Green Revolution delivers on the bitter melon flavor. I'm not a fan of bitter melon in general but my partner is. Very unique cocktail for sure but be prepared. The Steak Salad was phenomenal. We got the medium spice after the service warned us it's "Thai spice" levels. The Steak was super tender and flavorful. The dressing with lime and roasted rice powder was so addicting. The variety of vegetables was really nice. This was one of the best salads I've ever had in my life. The atmosphere inside was perfectly moody for a cocktail bar and had really nice decor. It was packed with people but there was space between tables so you don't feel crammed. I love that this restaurant brings the flavors of 3 generations of Thai women together, you can really tell they put a lot of attention to every detail from the food to the decor inside to the music. Service was warm from the front of house staff putting us on the wait-list to the server taking our orders. These people are great, and too popular at the same time. No sure what to say without being weird, but it can be a little cultish. They don't take reservations, but when you get there and there is a huge line, they will eventually take your name and give you an estimated time of open table, or bar. They generally have an hour plus wait time once they fill up, but they will text you once your seat is about 15min out. However, between new customers arriving and those that have a text that their seat is ready, it gets very pushy at the small halled front door. I let about 12 people shove by me, because I thought that they were trying to get their name one the list, but in fact they were shoving through so that they didn't lose their spot on the list. The owner did call me and ask where I was, because they were canceling me, and i said I was in line for the last 25 minutes. She brought me through, and said I should have pushed through the crowd to the hostess, lol. Nice though. Food is good, spice level will go from mild to near Thai hot, and most of the specialty drinks are very sweet, so if you like that, you will like the experience. I have not been outside, but the inside is very small, but very cute. I have had only one dish that was not good, and I didn't eat much of it, but the bartender insisted on taking it to the owner who took it off my tab. also cool. That was probably my 6th or 7th visit. I feel like I am in a secret club now that I have made it into BODHI!! Usually, the idea of going to a popular restaurant on a weekend without being able to make reservations fills me with anxiety -- but it is 100% worth the wait and extra planning. We showed up 15 minutes before opening and started a line outside the door. I felt like I was trying to get barricade at a concert. This might seem excessive, but all tables and bar seats were full 10 minutes after opening. If you don't make it in the first seating, you can get on the waitlist for later -- all tables have a 1.5 hour limit. Get on the waitlist and then wander down Mass Ave. Maybe get a pre-game drink somewhere else or stop by the bookstore. Also, reminder that this is a 21+ cocktail bar, so the kids will have to miss out unfortunately. First off, the drinks are fantastic, and the bartender was phenomenal. My dad had the best old fashioned of his life here. The rotating milk punch is a must-try. The seasonal cocktails are unique and fun -- and they have GREAT mocktail options. And the food is just as good as the drinks. You must order the crab puffs to share (and order immediately when you sit down because it gets busy fast). The chicken coconut soup was - dare I say - life changing. I will be dreaming about it for the rest of my life. It was perfection. Everything is a little expensive, but the portions are huge to make it worth it. The massaman curry and pad thai were both fantastic. We left stuffed to the brim and so so happy. This was truly one of the best meals I have had in a long time. The service was great. The drinks and food were stunningly delicious. Well worth the wait! Start with the chicken wings, you're welcome. These might be some of my favorite wings you can find in Indy. So crispy and so delicious. Whatever the sauce is they have on the side is incredible. For entrees, my husband got the pad Thai. I got the panang chicken curry and it was so good! Perfect amount of spice for me. I've never had lychee before, so that was fun to try. I loved the sweet and spicy flavors in Thai dish. They don't do reservations. We got there right when they opened and there was a line. We had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated because they seat people in waves to avoid overwhelming the kitchen. It was deathly hot outside so we opted to sit inside but their patio is so cute. Arrive 20 minutes before opening & waited in a line of about 30ish people and waited another 15 minutes for a table which was already anticipated. I'm assuming to receive the best service and not over work their servers. I went the opening weekend of Bodhi and had not been back since then because I just honestly wasn't impressed with portion value and the quality was good but comparable to many places around the city for a higher cost. I just went back this past week with my team at work and was surprised. Portion was great, flavor was absolutely amazing. I wanted to do drunken noodles because I figured it'd be a safe bet, but the waitress convinced me to get the soup that was special of the night and I have not had anything like that. I don't remember the name, but know it had fried noodles on top, extremely tender chicken, and I believe a green curry in the soup base. I also tried one of my coworkers curry with braised chicken and neither of them disappointed. Will be back. If you had a bad 1st experience, give them another try. The pad Thai and drunken noodles were delicious. They have many vegan options and customize most dishes. They have a vast wine selection and really awesome cocktails. We ordered the papaya salad (not well balanced and bland), chicken wings (crispy, but dry and chicken was not well seasoned inside), pad thai (tasty but can use more acid), and pad ka prow (was okay, I prefer mine dry). I am an avid supporter of women-owned small businesses, and have a true love for Thai food (visited Thailand solely for their food), and we really wanted to like the place, but think there's some quality work to be done. FANTASTIC food, quite possibly one of the best meals of my entire life. We got here around 5:30 on a Wednesday night and there was already a pretty big line, but we got seated for a table of two in about 15-20 minutes. I would recommend sitting indoors because there are a lot of bees swarming about on the patio. Service was great, very friendly. We ordered the beef massaman curry, a side of jasmine rice, the chicken khao soi (which we called ahead to made sure they had, because I think it's part of a rotating special (the host was very sweet when we called)), and the drunken noodles. Everything was so jaw dropping amazing, I still can't fully believe I had a meal that good. The drunken noodles were excellent but .... The massaman curry??? The Khao soi??? I felt like I was ascending to another plane of existence because they were so delicious I almost could not comprehend what I was eating. WOW!!!!!!! I would uproot my entire life and move to Indianapolis permanently just for that massaman curry and khao soi. Perfect way to ring in the New Year! Treated myself to a day out by myself. After exploring the State Museum for a couple of hours, I took my chances and ventured northeast on Mass Ave. fingers crossed for a table of 1. Instead of a table, I grabbed a seat at the bar & had a wonderful meal and outstanding service from Lane. Asking for recommendations, I just looked at him & said "yes!" Trusting his judgement was the smartest thing I've done all year. (Granted, it's 6pm on 1/1/25, but you get my drift!) Starting off with the pork skewer appetizer. 4 skewers- could have been a meal, with cucumber salad and spoon licking peanut sauce. I would absolutely order it again- but I'd probably share next time! That led me to a steaming hot bowl full of tender chicken, noodles, crunchy noodles & spicy greens. Holy hell, the flavor in this bowl is something I'll never forget and will quite possibly crave FOREVER! The entree could have very easily been shared as well. My only beef with BODHI? Where's the tasting menu? (And I say this with LOVE) Everything I saw brought out from the kitchen looked amazing and everything I ate was outstanding. I would totally do tasting menu! I went back that Friday around 5:30 and it was again a 45 minute wait but I had more time to spare. Bodhi has been on my to-visit list for as long as I've lived in Indy, so I finally made a trip on a Sunday evening after the Colts game. I arrived right at 5pm and was seated right away. Our waitress did a great job at explaining the spice variations of each dish (some dishes are defaulted at medium spice while others can contain no spice if you wish). I appreciated how many vegetarian options there were - almost every dish can be prepared with tofu as the protein. I ordered the tofu glass noodles. For an upper-scale Thai restaurant, I was expecting smaller portions - boy was I wrong! My noodle dish could have served two diners. The tofu was sauteed perfectly and wasn't soggy or too crispy. I do wish the glass noodles had a bit more oomph...maybe sesame oil? But I do love how they offer seasoning and chili oil on the side so you can season to taste. Bodhi definitely gets brownie points for their beautiful presentation. Each dish is colorfully decorated with edible flowers and herbal garnishes. In case you're looking to expand your palate and experience one of Indy's best restaurants, seriously consider Bodhi as your next option. The vibes are so unique, think urban romance meets Thai fusion (I could have sat at the bar for hours just to be in that environment - heads up they have a two hour limit so that's a no-go and also means they're THAT good). Literally ANYTHING you order will blow your mind but I highly recommend the Pad Thai. If you indulge in libations, their menu is unlike any other and again, you won't be disappointed by anything you choose. Or surprise yourself and do bartenders choice. read more

Cute restaurant vibes, the plating is all very pretty and nice too. The cocktails are unique from anything you can get anywhere else. I got the Tom Kha Chicken Coconut Soup, with medium spice, and the spring rolls and they were so delicious. The staff was very attentive and had super chill vibes. It is a bit pricey but it is worth it if you want to treat yourself to a unique and delicious experience. read more
