Famous bagel spot in Charlottesville so we had to check it out while we were in the area. Everyone we met said we had to try to this place! We went on a Sunday morning after church and the line was so long out the door! We decided to wait in the line and don't regret it. I ordered a egg sandwich with vegan sausage on a whole wheat bagel. I didn't really like the vegan sausage but the rest of the sandwich was good. I also ordered cinnamon raisin and everything bagels to take home. The bagels itself I loved; they were fluffy, tasty, and a good size not too big. Next time I'm going to opt for just a bagel with cream cheese. We were staying at the English Inn for a meeting and decided to have a Bodo Bagel for breakfast. I went in about 7 am and I was surprised as how busy the place was. I was waited on in a short time. The bagels were good and we enjoyed them. This is a good stop even if you are in a hurry. read more

This is a solid bagel place you can find around the Charlottesville area. I love that they have a wheat bagel option with everything seasoning! I usually order the cream cheese on the side because they put a ton of it on the bagel for you, which to some would be a great thing! The only thing I would change would be the coffee. I just don't think it is a great cup and would prefer to order that elsewhere and get my bagel from Bodo. But, in a pinch or for convenience, it will be okay! read more

A Charlottesville classic and a "must" for people visiting. Everything on the menu is great; I love the everything bagels with breakfast items on them, but you really can't go wrong with anything. I know that some people thing the bagels aren't up to "New York quality," but I think they are great, and you can't beat the price. The only thing holding me back from 5 stars is that I've noticed - just in the last year or so -that they are increasingly making mistakes on orders. I grabbed a "to go" bag for my family last week only to discover, once we were home, that every sandwich we ordered had something wrong with it. Verify before leaving, I guess. Just visited Charlottesville for graduation weekend, and I don't feel guilty at all saying that I hit up Bodo's twice. Super affordable, speedy, and a little intimidating to the untrained customer! Both times I was in the store, it was cram packed. Parking is hard, but it's a minimal price to pay for such cheap high quality bagels. My sister is from NYC, so she's a bit of a bagel elitist... This is a hopping place. They advertise 'water bagels' I had an egg bagel on a poppy seed bagel and yes DELICIOUS! There were many people here and in line, but it moved incredibly quickly. If you are looking for truly amazing bagels, look no further. They are chewy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. When you bit into them, you know you'll forever crave the taste. OH BODO'S....HOW I MISS YOU! I usually do not promote anything UVA-ish at all but this place is heaven. You have cured so many of my hangovers which I am forever grateful for. Those everything bagels with extra extra cream cheese provided me with just the right amount of carbs and sodium I needed to refuel my body. I usually went to the other location because it was close to my work. The turkey and cheddar on an everything bagel....there is nothing I can compare the bliss too....except maybe Mr. Jay's (a bagel place at my alma mater, JMU). Bodo's also has some good soups and salads, but I usually would stick with the bagel sandwiches. yum. Lines are usually long, but don't let them fool you, they move really quickly. Also, if it's a Saturday or Sunday morning you can probably overhear a story or two about some undergrad's life from the night before. Take it or leave it. read more

Meh.... Wasn't impressed. Maybe because I went to JMU and we had a Mr. J's, but Bodo's Bagel was just average. It was about as good as bagel place can be. Wait actually. Mr J's was better because they automatically melted the cheese on your breakfast bagel without you having to request it (Come on' who wants a slice of cold cheese on their hot bagel sandwich??) and was very sloppily put together. I understand that Bodo's is definitely much busier than Mr. J's, but still... that sort of carelessness is not appreciated. read more

I keep hearing that these are the best bagels ever, so I was really looking forward to eating here. Overall, I found it mediocre. The parking lot is overstuffed on weekend mornings, the line inside is ridiculously long, and I like my bagels toasted, but apparently they don't do that. They filled my coffee cup to the brim and then didn't have a place to dump some out so I could add cream. Their coffee station competes for floor space with the long line of customers waiting to be served. My meal was fine, but nothing special. Being a New Yorker, when people tell me " YOU GOTTA TRY THIS ITS SO NEW YAWK" I resign myself to attempting something. I will say, this place was efficient, fast, and pretty tasty. On two occasions I have breakfast bagel with egg and sausage. It was very delicious. The seltzer's though, were exceptional and earned the fourth star, I would recommend one to anybody who enjoys the finer things in life. Now, why not 5 stars? Maybe in new york, it's commonplace to put a little special buttery flavoring on bagels, and I understand we're in Cville, the land of DMB and vineyards, so many people are health conscious, but at least offering butter with my bagel would have been sufficient. read more

The hole in the middle of a Bodo's bagel is nothing compared to the hole my heart and stomach after leaving Charlottesville. I literally have had dreams/nightmares where I go to Bodo's and wait in line for hours only to find that they're sold out. I wake up in a cold sweat realizing that my cravings have got the best of me. In real life, the long line only takes a few minutes and a fresh bagel is waiting for me. I'm heading down to visit Bodo's soon, the University I attended across the street a relative afterthought. Soon, I'll be whole again. I love this place!! The bagels are melt-in-your-mouth and the best I've ever had...though I'm not from NY or the East Coast. I have brought friends here who aren't really into bagels in general and end up loving the experience. I've been to all locations, and the line moves quickly at all of them. My personal favorites are the everything bagel and the garlic bagel. I like to get hummus, avocado, onions, cucumber, and lettuce. They really load it up on the hummus. My only complaint had to be that refills are the same price as the original drink. read more

I'm from NYC and all these comments about Bodo's having the best bagels outside of NYC is baloney. Their bagels are OK- nothing to rave about...but if you understand what Charlottesville is all about then it all makes sense. To most CVillians, this is the center of the universe. Anyway, IMHO, Mr. J's bagels in Harrisonburg, owned by an original New Yorker, serves real NYC style bagels. When I'm up there I usually buy dozens and keep them in my freezer. read more

As a true bagel-holic I've hunted bagels in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Cleveland for the elusive truly great bagel - you know, the ones with the shiny, squeaky outside that gives way to the chewy interior; not too big and puffed up, or eek! "bready." Ones with small center holes so gobs of cream cheese don't fall onto your lap, and above all, great flavor. I looked forward to Bodo's after so many people told me about this Charlottesville landmark. I've tried nearly every Bodo's variety and had several sandwiches, and well,,.not so much. All I can say is I drive out Route 33 to Mr. J's bagels in Harrisonburg and buy three or four dozen at a time. They are sublime AND sesame or poppy seeds coat both the top and bottom halves so nobody gets shortchanged when sharing. Nuff said. read more

When my friend ranted and raved about this place I thought no way in the world can a bagel place be THAT good. And then I had my first sausage egg and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel...AND IT WAS EVERYTHING! And under $5! ~$6 with a medium drink! Now like my friend I swear by this place. The bagels were fine.. but the service was horrible! I went one morning right when they opened and there was already a line.. which is understandable, but the people behind the counter looked like chickens with they're heads cut off! Someone came in with a pre-ordered large order and they didn't have it on their list so they were scrammbling to round up enough bagels to fill her order while the rest of us sat patiently waiting. THEN once I finally placed my order, I waited as I watched other people who ordered after me get their orders while I just kept waiting... for 10 minutes. Finally, I said something to a woman behind the counter and she looked at my ticket counsulted someone from the kitchen and said "oh we are out of that bagel, that's the problem. What else do you want?" Sorry, but the bagels are not worth that kind of frustration and being late to work. read more
