This place was awesome. There was a line out the door but I was still in and out within about 10-15 minutes, and thats including waiting on two sandwiches. The bagels and cream cheese were both delicious. I did try the whole wheat everything bagel which wasn't that great, but whole wheat products rarely are so i knew that was a risk. We love Bodos so much that we get at least a dozen, most of the time 2 dozen, each time we go to Charlottesville. We freeze them and eat them throughout the following weeks. Every time I have visited Bodo's, it has always been very busy with a long line. However, the line moves incredibly fast due to employees who really know what they're doing and I am always satisfied with the amount of time I wait for my food. You can't beat a bodo's bagel-especially their everything bagels. you can eat them plain, with cream cheese, add bacon and eggs, or locks. any way you make it you will be in for a treat. the warm crisp bagels are truly unbeatable by anything except maybe their ceasar salad! the most garlicy salad you will ever eat. WARNING: bring a lot of gum if you intend on getting the ceasar salad- garlic breath will last all day if you do not attend to it properly. This place is great! My wife and I love the pastrami bagel sandwiches. They must make their own pastrami because it is awesome. I lived in NYC for 4 years and i know a good bagel and good pastrami and Bodo's has both. Service is really-really fast too, even during the busiest time of day. read more

The best bodos in town. I used to stop here and get a ham, egg and American on plain for breakfast every day. They made it perfect. While the Preston location is closer to my job, they just don't make the bagel the same. I think they use different ham. Still, the food is good, cheap and fast at any of these locations. You may even run into a famous local around lunchtime if you're lucky. Bodos is a must for those visiting cville. read more

Having recently had major dental work done, and ordered not to chew on the right side of my mouth, I asked the cashier to have my bagel sandwich cut in quarters. She said this was not their policy and had the manager, Mike come out, who reiterated the policy. I explained that I needed an accommodation due to recent dental work (two other restaurants have recently quartered my sandwiches with no problem). Mike told me he could not quarter the sandwich because it was the "strict policy of the owners" not to do so. He did tell me I could cut it myself with a knife, but then told me I would have to use the plastic knife (to cut through the multilayer sandwich). Never have I known a restaurant to be so insensitive to a medical need. This situation was both embarrassing and frustrating. With respect to the food, both the onion and sesame bagels, and the decaf coffee tasted quite good. However, the whitefish and smoked salmon spread was too fishy, and my wife who is not at all finicky could not finish her sandwich, SInce the bagels and coffee were good, I cannot in good conscience rate a "1" but certainly a "2(poor)" for the terrible customer service and mediocre fish spread. Follow up: One of the owners emailed to apologize for the overly strict enforcement of the policy about quartering bagels and invited me to come in for a meal on the house. I have upgraded the rating from a 2 to a 3 as a result. read more

1989 (turns out Bodo's was just a year old) we're down in Cville visiting gf at UVa Law School. She had just spent 5 yrs working in Manhattan, and took us to a bagelry which she described as being as good as NY ones. I do recall the chewy, fresh bagels we picked up at Bodo's at about 40% less than DC prices to boot. Flash forward more than 2 decades and my son is a UVa undergrad. The bagels are still top-notch and still significantly less expensive than the DC area (Bodo's charges about $7 a dozen). One caveat -- Bodo's whole wheat recipe is dry, so stick with the plain, sesame, cinnamon-raisin, pumpernickel, etc.. I think they are using too large a proportion of whole wheat flour so it has a grittiness, whereas all the other types we've tried have been soft & chewy & just superb quality. My son has thoughtfully brought us back a dozen bagels when he drives home for school breaks, causing me to swear off local DC bagels until he graduates, as I know I'll be disappointed by what I can get in DC for almost $1.00 apiece. I can't speak for the sandwiches, but my son loves their pastrami, turkey breast and pesto. read more
