I order products from the company on Feb 6 2024. At the end of Feb I didn't receive my products. I called and they told me my products were returned by the postal service and sitting on her desk. The lady went over my shipping address , which was right, and told me she would ship it back out but charge me for the shipping. I said fine. She stated she would call me back for payment information. March 4 I called back bc I had not gotten a call back. I spoke with a young lady and told her the story all over again. She stated she would for sure have someone call me back. March 16th I called back spoke with a gentleman. He stated he would have someone call me back, no calls. April 3rd same thing. This time I asked for a refund. Called back several more times and still nothing. I live in Los Angeles and have done business with them by actually going into the store. I am working out of state and got low on products so I ordered them. Never again!! read more

3.25.22 @ 11:53am I am a five year customer of BBL, only dealt with the older guy at the matket in LA until covid and and began going into the business for the product. Today I called to tell Miarriane, BBL that they gave me a liqiud blacksoap instead of a cherry blossom oil when I picked up my ALREADY PREPARED ORDER 2 weeks ago. Marianne's response immediately was accusatory aaggressive and rude. She blamed me rudely saying that they don't touch the products and the customer gets their prodect themselves. (true but I didn't, i called in) She continued saying I picked the wrong item and it was my fault. I opened the oil to use it, only to notice it was soapy in my arms, i looked at the bottle and it was BLACK SOAP, not the patchouli blossom I always ordered. I explained that she was wrong in accusing me and should be very careful how she talks to her customers. I explained that i called in the order and it was already on the counter when my friend and i entered the store. Then she says she cant take it back because i opened it. I explained that i only found out AFTER PUTTINNG IT ON MY ARMS. I told her it was not my fought the order wasnt correct and i expect an exchange, which she said she would not do. At this point its an argument im upset she accused me and she because I said I would let my friends know about this, as i have referred many to her business and accused me of threatening her. YES IM TELLING EVERYONE ABOUT THIS, A fact not a threat!!. I felt attacked and she was not compromising AT ALL!!. I was going to call the better business bureau but this review suffices. In the past i had an issue with the strength of the oil not being the same but brought the wrong bottle to the store, explained the situation and she gave me another bottle which i appreciated, but did not ask for or expect!! That was then IN 2019 this is now 2022 and she had the nerve to bring that up as though I was just saying that to get something free. I was not and did not want anything except for her to know the issue I had with the product THEN AND NOW. And yes i did expect an exchange. Also I had never shaken the oil before use and she suggested I do that I do that to get its full potency and strength. Point being, the shea butters and oils from BBL i use are amazing, but Marrianes Customer Service skills are very much lacking. This why I give HER a 1 star!! Not the products! The older gentleman is much more mature people friendly and seems to actually care about his customers concerns and respectfully addresses them. I will be returning to the business for a refund or an exchange. I've NEVER bought or ordered black soap oil EVER!! I paid 10 for patchouli oil, that is what I use!!! read more

A few years ago I was at the LA Fair and came across Body Butter Lady's booth and purchased her body scrub. I regretted getting such a small container because it made my skin silky smooth and because I was unable to find her the following year at the fair. Fast forward to this year my friend kept telling me about a place where he would get his black soap in Inglewood and told me they sold other items as well, but he could not remember the name of the store. After months went by I wanted to start a new skin care regimen so I went on Yelp to find the store he mentioned. It was a pleasant surprise to see the store was owned by the Body Butter Lady! Within the next few days I was in the store and purchased the liquid black soap, a body scrub and body butter. All of the products have done wonders to my skin. The store allows customers to sample body scrubs and butters in various scents. Although the body butter lady wasn't working that day, there was a younger girl there who answered all of my questions. Today, I stopped by her new shop in downtown Inglewood and was so happy to see her full line of all natural body, bath, hair, and beauty products, plus her AUTHENTIC African fabric, & clothes for men & women (which she can have custom made for you). She also sells all types of jewelry, as well. Her store smells divine and her decor is very zen, making it easy to browse and sample the products. --- I love the location b/c there's plenty of parking and a lot of great restaurants nearby (Caribbean, vegan, Louisiana Creole, soul food, Mexican, American, etc.), so you can easily grab something to eat before or after shopping. Love how everything is non irritating and more natural based . Because of my recent emergence of eczema flares,issues with sinuses getting triggered by anything heavily scented / processed these type of stores allow us to indulge without the same side effects . What I love most is the body butters and even with the small jar you get hella product and because it's Shea butter based a little amount goes a longgggggg way . I guess tho that all depends on your skin type as less dry skin like mine needs less than someone with eczema or super dry skin ect . I wish they had a peppermint butter as I'd be in heaven because that's my top scent lol but for now I've tried the bar soaps (amazinggggg). They have a low lather because they don't use the heavy sudsy causing chemicals but they get you cleaned the same and smelling wonderful after your shower. Just like the African soap tho these must be kept in a draining soap dish as they lack the preserving chemicals found in standard soap bars from a regular store ,hence will melt down faster. I also picked up some body butters and I love each . The butter scents are subtle but linger for hours after applying,no strong perfumey headache like big brands scents and no heavy greasy feel . As far as shea butter I recommend rubbing the butter in your hands till it turns clear before rubbing on skin/hair. It makes it easier to apply,mixes away any clumped Shea and absorbs easier . They also have a website FYI . The staff is really cool too she gave me a lot of info and made the transaction very smooth! Soaps I got: peppermint, Orange bang ( tie here I love both scents) Body butter: mingle (mango) ,orange bang (light orange scent ) . Since you can test/smell prior to buying in store these are the scents that I liked most . Mango is most popular scent at the store so I assume it runs out fast. If you read the comments on the website many get the mango in big tubs lol . I also like a subtly vanilla one they have . Cherry blossom is usually my go to with fragrances (old school bath and body works before they went rogue with with the fragrances has the best one imo scent wise) but to me the version here has a artificial scent I can't put in words so I passed. Due to covid, the shop is doing online orders and fulfills via delivery or curbside pick-up. I messaged their Instagram account to ask what the store's pick-up hours were, and got a response within 1-2 minutes despite it being around 10pm on a Tuesday! Such good customer service already really solidified my decision to shop here versus other online shops. The website is very informative and shows all the ingredients with pictures. Navigating the page and checking out is easy. She also has a 15% off $25 purchase promotion going on right now. I ordered the vanilla body butter, mango lip scrub, and rose water soap. The body butter smells so good! I'm obsessed with the smell and the thickness of the Shea butter. I have eczema, so I recently decided to make the switch to more natural soaps and moisturizers. It immediately soothed my itching when I rubbed it into my skin and had my skin feeling moisturized all the way until the next morning. Also, since it's raw shea, it takes more time to rub into the skin. So it's very therapeutic to spend time moisturizing myself rather than just slapping on store-bought liquidy lotion. The mango lip scrub smells so good! A little like sour candy. My lips were moisturized immediately after. It's a little smaller than I thought it would be, but I still think it's a good product. The rose water soap bar was so good. To be honest I'm not really a fan of bar soap because they often leave my skin feeling really tight afterwards (I have dry/sensitive skin). However, this one is so moisturizing and I barely felt that typical tightness I get from bar soaps. Also the smell! Came across their butter , couple years ago in Pasadena on Eat Drink Vegan festival. I have very dry hands , very dry (ask my manicurist) . My cuticles crack and bleed on a daily basis. But this is remedy, the whipped butter heals my hands overnight. Plus I work in garden a lot and wear nitrile gloves , I do a little bit of butter underneath and it's like a little hand spa. This is an addendum to my original 2-star rating of a week or so ago...I will say that your product is a good product and all of my prior purchases/orders have gone well so based on that I feel I should upgrade your rating...but that being said this experience was a "fail" and albeit your explanation being a rational, "message received" response, the fact that I called several times and left messages requesting a return call to no avail...I responded on your site where it says contact us...no response - I emailed and text several times with no response...that is what upset and alarmed me & got you the 2-star rating. My payment was processed immediately it appears upon acceptance so a responses from your staff should have happened in a timely manner or in this case a "non response" seems unacceptable from a business standpoint...I hope my next purchase will go better and do encourage folks to order from you. read more

I've been trying several Black owned businesses this week with Body Butter Lady being one of them. Popped in to get my mini me some Zawadi. I actually was surprised that I hadn't noticed this store before since I go to Rusty Pot a lot. Anyway, upon entering, you will immediately smell the aroma of all the different body butters, etc. It smells amazing even with my mask on. Ended up buying some Mingle hair oil, body butter and sugar scrub. I told mini me we are sharing that body butter, but I'm sure I'm going to have to swing back through on Saturday and pick up my own. I've already oiled my scalp with the hair oil and I'll see how that goes, but I'm really already loving the ingredients and smell. I'm going to have to kick my island oil to the curb lol.
