I started acupuncture in April of 2025 with Tabitha because of lower back pain that turned into sciatica. I had SERIOUS issues. My entire body was tense... I mean, VERY TENSE. I was in pain 24/7. Now, 18 sessions and 4 months later, I feel like things are really looking up. I'm feeling hopeful. Tabitha is a patient, sensitive, and skillful acupuncturist. She gets to work right away and does a little check-in verbally and by feeling out your body when you arrive. She has a magical touch, and I most look forward to the brief end of session massages that she gives (they are incredible). Even though some sessions are painful due to what she is having to treat, I feel as though they're helping me towards living pain-free (or with minimal pain). Not only that, she is helpful in other areas -- when I was having intense bloating and GI issues, she provided a chinese herbal regiment that helped so much. She gives me recommendations for other kinds of practices like deep tissue massages and rolling out my feet. Everything she says, I listen to, because Tabitha is always right. I can get really skittish about continuing practices but I find myself craving acupuncture with Tabitha... and another testament to how much I value these services: I pay for them out of pocket even though I could see other acupuncturists in-network! In short, I owe so much to Tabitha. I love Tabitha and her scheduler Gina so much and can't recommend them enough. (Gina should be a standup comedian, she's so funny.) I met Tabitha at a women's new moon circle years ago, which lets you know Tabitha is open minded when it comes to things like astrology and feminism. These things are important to me when looking for any healer so I was excited to book an acupuncture session with Tabitha. I traveled the distance (since I live almost an hour away by subway) a few times between 2015 and 2017 when I was sick or in back pain to see Tabitha and it was always worth it. However, I couldn't afford to see her regularly. Imagine my joy when in late 2017 I started a new job where my insurance fully covered my treatments. I've now been seeing Tabitha weekly for the last 6 months and it's a joy to make the trek every week. I know I could go after work and save a little time on the train since my work is closer, but there's something really nice about waking up on Saturdays and having an acupuncture testament. It's a great way to start the weekend and it's been a great reason to explore the neighborhoods of Morningside Heights and Harlem. There's so much good food around. The brunch opportunities are endless. And sometimes Tabitha does gua sha on me which is sort of like a Chinese scraping massage. I'm sort of a wimp and can't fully handle gua sha but I love what little bit I've had of it. If you've never had acupuncture, know it really doesn't hurt. And if it does hurt, it's like a tiny sting and you tell Tabitha immediately and she makes the sting go away immediately. There's also an emergency button you can press should you ever need anything while you're in treatment since a chunk of acupuncture requires you to be alone in a resting state. For me the way each session works is that when I arrive, Tabitha has me go in a room (there are two but I know she's moving to a bigger space and I tell her what's going on with me both physically and mentally/emotionally. I don't think you have to do that but I believe in a strong mind body connection so it makes sense to tell my acupuncturist that my neck hurts but also that I'm stressed because of such and such. I usually feel so much pain relief from an acupuncture treatment and I feel so relaxed. Ridiculously relaxed. The term is "acu-atoned"! You just feel so nice and light but completely on your own because of the tension release from the acu-pressure points Tabitha focuses on versus because of a substance. I once looked so happy after acupuncture that some women on the street asked if they could take my picture. It was a very When Harry Met Sally "I want what she's having!" moment. :) The acupuncture rooms are clean and cozy. I always feel warm and safe. For those who want to try acupuncture for anxiety, stress and/or depression, I do feel like acupuncture with Tabitha in combination with therapy has worked wonders for me. Tabitha just has the best energy. I love getting to see her every week and it's an honor to have her work on me. Tabitha really does make everything better. I know because I'm in the middle of treatments that it's hard for me see the long term effect acupuncture is having on me but I am certain it's having one and I can't wait to report back this time next year. :) Also I'm one of those people with a very busy and sometimes unpredictable schedule and the online scheduler makes it so easy to reschedule as long as you're doing it 24 hours in advance. And even if it's less than 24 hours in advance, you can simply call or email to reschedule. Super easy and friendly system. I feel so relaxed after every session. Tabitha is such a good listener. I've been going to Body Mechanics for a couple of months and working with Jackie on issues related to chronic migraines and it has been a game changer. My headache days are down to 2-4 per month instead of 9-12 after doing the unlimited healing plan (a great deal, by the way) and coming once or twice per week. I had never tried acupuncture before but everyone at BMA has been exceptionally kind and professional and I'm so glad I tried it out. Tabitha is a conscientious acupuncturist. She takes her time getting know you and any conditions you want to work on. She also knows how to hit the right points. I always leave feeling relaxed. I'm a cyclist, so my muscles are usually tense. She is able work on those areas. I've left limping a few times, but the following day I felt like new. I have never had an experience where I walked into an acupuncturist/chiropractor etc. feeling terrible and came out feeling great buuuuut Tabitha made it happen. There is no denying that Tabitha is great at what she does but i cant help but point out that she doesnt seem to have patience with her patients that have families with children. I had been going to Tabitha probably almost 2 months and i did have two incidents happen that have probably interfered with her appointment making but the first incident was out of my control but i made sure to keep her aware of what was going on to show my interest that i wanted her services. She seemed understanding at the time but i guess it wasnt her true sentiments because when the second issue i had come up she totally withdrew from me. In fact we had weekly visits established same day/same time. I come for my scheduled visit and she is not there. No phone call...no cancellation....no heads up at all. I call her while im at her door for my appointment and ask her why she was not answering.....her response "we do not have an appointment today. I have jury duty". Last i knew you get pretty far advanced notification for jury duty so i couldnt help but think this was in some way a form of retaliation for being unable to attend one appointment. And that is not very business like. Since that point ive waited for Tabitha to e-mail me my weekly appointment notice but she has not so im left to assume she does not want my services. Im okay with that, but i expected way more professionalism from her. Would i recommend her for her work....absolutely!!
