For those that are a stickler for the ambiance effect, the studio was different than the pictures so I assumed the pics may have been of out call clients. As mentioned I booked a 2 hour massage which allowed him to spend a little more time with initially assessing my body's needs before actually massaging. This did throw me off but I allowed him to run through his routine. Every therapist is different. Once massaging he was very considerate and modest with draping, he was consistent with his pressure and offered adjustments, and he was very methodical on the rotation through a full body massage. I would absolutely return for another massage and I know he would be very amendable to any requests I may have. Koa was very kind and professional.

Sani welcomed me as soon as I walked in. He asked me what I wanted to focus on and we went to work. I get like 2+ massages a month, so I sort of know what I like. Sani was great. I told him I wanted my upper back, tops of shoulders, deltoid area, and left hip/glute. While he used great pressure on my upper back, I prefer much more pointed, focused, deep tissue massages where they dig into a knot to the point where you can feel the crunchy trigger point as it releases. Sani had a smoother, sweeping technique. He would press on trigger points to get them to loosen up a bit but wouldn't keep at it. I don't know anything about massage techniques but I wonder if this is because his speciality might be sports massage? Anyway, it was more than adequate and I left feeling relaxed but my shoulders were still a bit locked up when I left (to be fair to him, my shoulders are always ridiculously tight so they require a lot of attention). Why he gets 4 stars is because of his work on my deltoid area which I had previously injured and is still healing. He focused a lot of pressure and used his fingers to help break up whatever scar tissue or fascia or whatever. I definitely had greater range of movement in my shoulder after I left. Same for my glute medius/lower left back area. It's perennially tight and painful but Sani used a bit of compression, manipulation of my legs, and stretching to help loosen up my back. This is where he excelled as a therapist. My TL;DR is if you're an athlete and/or need to get specific parts of your body worked on due to injury, Sani is your man. He can help get that range of motion you lack back to your affected area. He reminds me of the sports massage therapists that works closely with a PT or chiropractor. I would trust him to get me back to competing in whatever sport I was in 100%. In terms of the run of the mill deep tissue/therapeutic massage. I thought he was still very good but not completely aligned with my preferences of smashing a trigger point into submission no matter how much pain it requires. Perhaps that's why this place is called Active Sports Massage. haha. Anyway, well worth the trip and the money. I'll be back when I'm on that side of the island.

After a week of pills, rest and stretching I was still in pain but somewhat mobile. A friend told my wife about Mati and she called for an appointment. Prices are comparable for massage rates around the area but if you are looking for cleanliness, convenience, and a good massage, seven senses spa is the place to go. I stick to the same massage therapist who doesn't have a lot of hours that work well with my work schedule so I have to book in advance but if you are willing to try any massage therapist you could probably get a massage almost anytime. The monthly subscription makes the price of the massage less by $10 and is an excuse to get a massage at least once a month. There is also a Waikiki location at the ilikai where I tried their facials. The parking is validated which is great for Waikiki. It is however a little more expensive than the kahala location but they do occasionally have more specials at the Waikiki location...although I haven't seen it for a while.

The stylists are independent contractors but the person who answered the phone gave me a couple of stylist names & numbers to call. Kayana was able to get me in on the day that I requested. Although there was a little mix-up on the time, she apologized and went right to work. She was very friendly and professional throughout the appointment. I just wanted a color touch-up and her prices were more reasonable than some of the other stylists I had checked out. She did a very thorough job coloring my hair and I felt like it was more of a full color rather than just a touch up! She utilized a new type of Paul Mitchell coloring product that processes in 10 min as opposed to 30 min. Wow, I'm on board with that! Afterwards she dried my hair using a hair brush dryer (the double shot by Drybar) and my hair looked like I just had a blow out! I was so impressed with that dryer that I went on Amazon and bought one right after my appointment. The salon is located in the Koko Marina shopping plaza, close to Zippy's and across from the old theater. Plenty of parking is available in the shared lot. The salon itself is clean and spacious. I would highly recommend this salon and I'm so happy I found Kayana. She will definitely be my go-to stylist moving forward.
