It was my first visit to this salon and although just a root touch up, I have about five different colors running through my hair. Selina listened to what I wanted, selected a color and my roots now blend in with the rest of my hair perfectly. She did such a great job. Whatever product she used in my hair afterwards left it feeling silky, smooth, and really helped tame some of my frizzy curls. The salon is really cute, clean, and has a great vibe! I come to Oahu often and sometimes I just need a color touch-up. This salon is close to my vacation home so I called about a week in advance to schedule an appointment. The stylists are independent contractors but the person who answered the phone gave me a couple of stylist names & numbers to call. Kayana was able to get me in on the day that I requested. Although there was a little mix-up on the time, she apologized and went right to work. She was very friendly and professional throughout the appointment. I just wanted a color touch-up and her prices were more reasonable than some of the other stylists I had checked out. She did a very thorough job coloring my hair and I felt like it was more of a full color rather than just a touch up! She utilized a new type of Paul Mitchell coloring product that processes in 10 min as opposed to 30 min. Wow, I'm on board with that! Afterwards she dried my hair using a hair brush dryer (the double shot by Drybar) and my hair looked like I just had a blow out! I was so impressed with that dryer that I went on Amazon and bought one right after my appointment. The salon is located in the Koko Marina shopping plaza, close to Zippy's and across from the old theater. Plenty of parking is available in the shared lot. The salon itself is clean and spacious. I would highly recommend this salon and I'm so happy I found Kayana. She will definitely be my go-to stylist moving forward. read more

I stopped in here for an impromptu haircut while I was at the marina. I usually go to Great Clips, and just accept whatever comes. Thankfully, the Great Clips app showed a 25 minute wait in Hawaii Kai, so I stopped in here and got clipped with no wait at all! I'm happy I did, because I had an excellent haircut experience with Grace and have found a new and good place to get my hair cut. For years I've simply settled for the basic male cut. You walk in, you sit down, you tell them your clipper guide setting, and off you go. A buzz and a trim and you're on your way in 10 minutes. Lost in that mass-produced process (thankful, though I am that it exists), is the art of cutting hair. Grace restored my interest in having properly cut, good looking hair, and for that I am very thankful. Grace greeted me immediately upon entering the salon, and offered me a seat. She asked me what I liked and how long it had been since last haircut, noting the significant time two months is between male haircuts, and making a judgement on hair growth from this information. When she asked what I wanted, I said I was open to anything that made me look good. Notably absent was the typical question of "What guard do you use?" I knew I was in for something special. After that, Grace took out her scissors and started clipping away, taking a careful eye to symmetry across both sides of my head. I enjoyed our conversation about children, and their impact on our lives. Deep, perhaps, for a haircut, but Grace brings out a level of comfort and familiarity which I appreciated. I declined her offer to wash my hair after the cut due to time constraints, but hopefully can plan enough next time to allow for this underappreciated step of a good haircut. I have been coming to Kayana for a while for any of my cut or coloring needs and she never disappoints! I will usually bring in a photo of what I want, and she always does her best to accommodate my wants while also giving me something that is better suited for my face shape/skin tone. If I ever pick a color that may wash me out, she nicely suggests me to a similar color that works better for me. She is very skilled at her job and you can tell she is very passionate about her work. I also frequently bring my other half to her as well, he appreciates her as she's always quick and gives him exactly what he asks for. She is super friendly and always makes us feel comfortable throughout the appointment. She even gives helpful hair care tips for whatever you're getting done. I really appreciate her thoroughness and attention to detail as getting my hair done is usually a luxury for me. The shop itself is clean and a very-relaxing environment. The rest of the staff are always super-friendly and it's just an all-around great salon. I've been to other salons where it felt a bit awkward sitting in the chair, and usually coloring takes a good bit of time. So it's nice to be comfortable the whole time and it's a lot more relaxing. When I walked in Grace greeted me with a pretty smile and friendly welcome. We soon found out we go to the same church One Love Ministires! I was so ready for a cut and Grace complimented my hair even in it's damaged condition. She gave me a relaxing shampoo, took off about 3" from the bottom and a soft layer. She blow dried and styled my hair and even showed me how I can get a curl effect with a flat iron. Her prices are super reasonable too. I love Hapa Heaven, and I love my stylist Michelle! The salon is super clean and the staff are always friendly. I also appreciate the safety protocols they have taken during this COVID-19 time (temperature checks, short questionnaire, hand and chair sanitizing, barriers between stations, limited number of people). Knowing they take the health & safety of their staff and clients seriously helped alleviate my anxiety around getting a cut/highlight during the pandemic. Michelle is awesome. She really listens and takes into account you/your needs vs stylists who push what they want to do. With 2 young kids, I need a really low maintenance cut that can last me a long time. She cuts it in a way that it still looks good when it grows out. Went and got a men's haircut. My stylist was "J". I had the worst customer service experience ever. She was rude, rushed me, jerked my head around and told me to "hold still" is a harsh tone of voice. She spent all of 1 minute washing my hair, barely even rubbed the shampoo in. Will never be back and will let my friends and family in the area know not to come here. I don't know about the other stylists there, but mine was awful. Update: In response to the comment. I left with a smile because I'm not rude and I don't like confrontation. I'm a courteous person by nature. I bought hair styling cream because i needed some not because she sold it to me. Due to Covid, I haven't had my hair cut in over a year so it was really long and needed to be cut badly! We took our 3 year old daughter for her first official haircut. Lara was our stylist and she was able to fit us in that day. Lara was truly exceptional with the way she treated our daughter and made her feel comfortable in the chair. Usually with first haircuts, it goes really good or really bad. Luckily we had a great stylist and the experience for our daughter was amazing. I was very surprised on how in tune Lara was in comforting my daughter and treating her with care. This is my go-to spot when I need a blowout for a special event. Besides achieving silky, stick straight results for my hair that has tight, ramen noodles curls, Michelle gave me tips on maintaining the style in this humid Island weather. For example , you might be tempted to hold a style with hairspray but that would be a mistake because hairspray contains water and water makes straight hair get kinky or curly. Scheduling is a little more time consuming than my regular salon because each stylist keeps her own appointment book but I had a confirmed appointment booked within an hour or so of my initial contact. Prices are reasonable for Oahu and the salon is stylish and comfortable. Parking in Koko Marina is insane on weekends but that is not the salon's fault. The first time I went, it started to rain during my appointment and one of the staff held an umbrella for me in the way to my car this time, skies were blue and dry. Having been away for awhile, I had no idea Vivian had moved to Hapa Heaven. She didn't have any openings when I called but offered to make an appointment with one of the other ladies I had seen at her former place of business. I told her I'd wait for an appointment with her, and that's when she told me she moved to Hapa Heaven. But it isn't just her character that makes me like her. She does wonderful work. She listens to my concerns (trying to avoid an ingrown toenail) and works with my sometimes persnickety requests. Went for a cut and perm, Selina did an AMAZING job. She was very attentive to what I wanted and referred to the pictures I brought in to make sure she gave me exactly what I wanted. She knew what she was doing having about 30 years of experience with perms and so she knew which rod sizes would hold a curl for my hair type, which wouldn't, which formula type to use, etc. And she walked me through the process of maintenance and care, honestly a professional in her field. 10/10 will come again read more
