I almost want to take one star off for it being the most hot yoga studio I've ever been in, but I will leave that up to you. All in all, I've been here at least 3 times and the experience is very consistent with what feels like an old school hot yoga studio with some enthusiastic practitioners and theatrical teachers. They were some of the hardest classes I've ever taken and I left both inspired and a little defeated. I would only recommend a very hydrated and somewhat experienced person exercise here, it's not for the super newbies unless you take a teacher or class title that really helps beginners. That's my most honest advice because honestly, classes are intense here. The teachers and desk staff are friendly and the facilities were spotless. I have been coming to Bode for about a year and a half now. It is an integral part of my life and New York world. I feel like I have tried a pretty wide range of classes and teachers (my app says 170, but I have def passed 200), Stephanie, Aura, Marisa, Katie, Sarah, Eric, Auraceli, Tori, and Alexa. My body has personally seen the biggest change since taking Sculpt/Pilates classes consistently. The instructors always brings a fun, positive, welcoming energy. I feel like I get the most out of the class, with how hard I am working, not wasting time, and using the end to fully rest-which rarely happens in the city. I always leave feeling accomplished and well challenged, which I so love. Anyways who knows me, know's how much I love Bode and rave about it. Thanks for creating such an amazing studio space. I unfortunately have nothing good to say about my experience here. The environment was not what you expect at a hot yoga class, as it was extremely lit, covered in mirrors, too hot to even breathe comfortably, and not friendly. It is listed as a class suitable for all levels, and as a beginner I was struggling immensely. The instructor spoke quite literally the entire time, which made it feel extremely demanding - there was no moments of silence, as everything was on a count. She also said a few things that made me uncomfortable. She told us the following things in a very judgmental tone: we shouldn't be wiping our sweat (this is a HUGE personal preference as I tend to sweat excessively), we need to lock our knees during every move (many trainers and instructors have explicitly said this is dangerous to do to your body), and threatened to separate me and my friend if we couldn't "keep it down" (after I spoke whispered 5 words to her). She also didn't do any of the workout with us, so as a beginner I was having trouble figuring out what I'm supposed to be doing. The studio also seemed like it could be cleaner and the customer service wasn't anything special at all. Overall, I would not recommend this studio. read more

Not all are my favorites but they do have standouts like Bob Harper, Georgia, Lyuba, John Mabry, Jon S., & Kathleen. All fantastic humans and yoga instructors. Some instructors are wonderful however a handful are keeping humidity well over 40%. I witnessed a woman having to be taken away by ambulance. Literally. And I heard people are throwing up in class. And. if the water filter isn't working which is about half the time, send an email to all students so that we can bring our own filtered water. read more

I have mixed feelings because the heat and the actual classes are really great. I've been searching for a good hot yoga studio, and this is the best that I've found. However, there are many aspects that could use improvement. First off, the smell when you walk in is nauseating. Sadly, after a few minutes, you get used to it but I dread that first few minutes every time I step into the facility. Next, I've experienced some extremely rude, judgmental, and pretentious behavior here by other yogis who seem to be regulars (understood that this is out of the facility's control), but also by teachers! I left a yoga class once and the teacher was telling some of the students (not quietly) that it was a weird class, it was a bad vibe, and some of the students in it were just "weird." This is absolutely unacceptable and goes against everything that yoga is. I've been practicing yoga for 7 years all over the place, and I'd never experienced anything like that. It was unfortunate because I thought the class and teacher were both great until I heard that. On a good note, shoutout to Lorenza Pintar and Stephanie Sladkis who were both be engaging, extremely present, and encouraging. I will continue to look for a better studio because I don't want to support the poor culture here, but until then, I will keep going and hope it improves. read more

Straight up my crap review is due to the person beside me sneakily filming herself during class. I'm here to unplug for an hour and try to get stronger, not be an extra in some girl's Tik Tok diary. The "cell phone free zone" sign might as well hit the trash cuz I've been coming here for months and it's never enforced nor respected. I felt worse for the girls behind her who were definitely in her shot. I wondered why she was wearing huge socks to class- maybe she has a big following with the foot fetish community and doesn't want to give it away for free (too bad mine are probably in there.) I did say something to her face after class cuz I didn't want to become THIS person online (hey, you can check-most of my reviews are POSITIVE, as am I!) but it's still eating me alive cuz now I don't feel comfortable coming here. She straight up threw the teacher under the bus and said she got permission (well, clearly not from ALL of us) and said she usually sits in the back so no one else has to be in video. (So ya this is a regular thing.) If anyone knows any studios in New York who actually implement a zero phone policy, please LMK. I don't need my Baby Reindeer chins flopping all over a yoga mat on the internet. read more

Great place to learn from experienced instructors. Please be on time and don't bring phones/watches into the room. Everyone joining class is advised of this. The teachers I have interacted with are great. They want to know about any pre-existing injuries and advise students on modifications for different poses. They give directed teaching and feedback where appropriate. The facility is clean and well taken care of, including the locker room/bathrooms. read more

I'm a long (LONG) time member. I have to say i am very disappointed they put a hard floor in one of the studios. It is hard on my knees, coccyx etc. so I can no longer use that studio. Also--the mats are SO SO close to each other that you're literally being splashed with other people's hot sweat. Not cool or sanitary. Love it here. I have done Bikram on and off for 15 years in a number of cities, this is a great studio with good positive energy. It is very hot in the room but the instructors I've had so far are nicely encouraging of resting when you need it, and conscious of cooling down the room when it's too hot (by either turning on the fans or opening the window). The teachers and the other students are very friendly. The teachers are especially good at motivating you and keeping you calm through the heat with their dialogue, and helping everyone celebrate small or big wins. Class feels like a community. They have lockers and showers. So glad to have found this place! read more

I just moved to NYC after a year of doing hot yoga in Michigan, so now I am on a journey to find the best NYC yoga studio to join. Tonight at bode yoga UES was by far the worst yoga experience I have ever had. The whole place smelled terrible, the class had no flow, and the instructor Irena talked at us every 5 seconds, so there was no music or zen. To make things worse, I was personally singled out by the instructor Irena in front of the entire class several times for going to the lobby (quietly and through the back of the class) to refill my water bottle (and the fountain was broken) and for modifying the poses/making the flow my own to suit my personal health needs. A yoga studio is supposed to be a safe space and I have never felt more personally attacked during a yoga flow. I will not be coming back. read more

Irena Mernik-Knee was really rude to me. It was my first time at the studio and I got there right at 12pm, meaning I entered class at 12:05. I apologized at the desk and asked if I could still enter given that it was my first time at the studio and had trouble finding the door.. When I walked into class, Irena asked me if everything was okay in front of the class and then asked me if I had my cell phone in the small bag. (I don't have a lock to store my things and while I'm aware that it's not conventional to bring items into studio, I had nowhere to put it and it's the size of my palm.) I told her yes and she shook her head no and told me I have to take it to the front desk because there can't be "waves" in the studio. Have never been told this before. I think she was annoyed I was late because, as soon as I walked in, she gave me this strange look like she was upset. Unprofessional. Instructors are supposed to be enthusiastic and welcoming. Regardless, her words Would have been fine if she told me all of this privately but hurrying me out of the class and talking to me like that was unnecessary. I am looking for a studio as I just bought a place in the neighborhood. The front desk person was kind and saw me leave early and asked if I wanted to do another class instead. Disappointed in how I was treated otherwise. read more

Nice large and clean area. The door from outside is a little narrow so it's not as obvious. You walk up the stairs and then you'll see the front desk. The front desk wasn't all that helpful, I must agree since as first timers, we were pretty lost. Towels, mats all cost. The bathroom has some small cubbie sized lockers. There are 3 showers and its a fight after. The room itself where everyone practices is quite large, but, with the room packed and so many people, the people in the back get a little lost. The teachers do walk around but physically are not able to help every single person constantly in that large of a space. Now, I did leave a bag of brand new yoga shorts unworn at the locker room and was thankfully able to have them hold on to it and I picked it up at a later date. Aside from the kind of, off puttish attitude for first timers, it was an alright class and did not dock a start because, hey, it's a decent hot yoga place. read more

Absolutely looooveeee bodē and can't believe I didn't start coming here sooner. For starters I've taken exactly 3 classes now with my favorite teacher Kathleen B., and the vibes overall from her are magnificent! My first class I was nervous and honestly had a lot going on in my personal life but had pushed myself to go, and ended up having an emotional breakdown at the end of the session because of how great the yoga was for my overall soul/body. I was anticipating the worse/was embarrassed but Kathleen was understanding and the staff there were kind to me, even the fellow students too. Goes to show that no ones actually judging you but yourself! Since then I've been attending and doing my best in the next classes to follow the movements, and would highly recommend to anyone no matter what level you're on of yoga, to attend a hot yoga class! read more

I have genuinely never felt so disrespected in a yoga class in my life. I took the 7:15pm with Lyuba at the UES location this past Wednesday. I have been practicing hot yoga for 3 years, and sought out the class after a long week. When I had not mastered a pose and was trying to practice it, Lyuba told me to "sit down" after a minute or two of trying. When I practiced a modified pose a few minutes later, she chastised me in front of the class, and insinuated that I couldn't hear her instructions. Combined with references of this being my "first time" and a flat-out denial when I tried to leave, I finished the class feeling worse than when I started it. Yoga is meant to empower the individual and inspire a deeper connection between body and breath. There is no place for shame in a practice. read more

my current favorite workout class!! specifically the HOT HIIT 60... that's the only class I've taken at this studio. They also have bikram and a few other classes. All classes are in a heated room. There are two studios at this location. I'm currently doing the 21 days unlimited classes for $49 (for new clients)... such a great deal! They'll always provide you with the towels (one small towel, one large, and one mat towel) but after your first visit, yoga mats are a $3 rental fee. There are locker rooms with lockers (no locks, you can bring your own), bathrooms, and showers. Locker room is a little small but much better than the flatiron locker room situation. There's also a water filter system to fill up your bottles.. very important for a hot studio. Stephanie and Sam are my FAVORITE instructors - they are the absolute best and keep me coming back for more - also great fun music. The HOT HIIT class is low impact but you sweat profusely. There's typically 15ish minutes of cardio (burpees, jumping jacks, etc) and the rest is other great movements. I leave this class soaked every single time and love every bit of it. read more

Great instructors who help with all postures and good classes. The bad sweat odor or overwhelming and nauseating. They need to Pinesol mop the floors and Lysol between classes. Yoga is supposed to be relaxing and empowering and all I felt was personal ridicule. Instructors will call you out and make sure everyone knows it is "your first time" and that you are "new" and make you watch poses and critique you. I had such a great experience at bode yesterday! It was my first time there and I reserved the class (Hot Flow Open Level) through ClassPass. The gentleman at the front desk (I think his name is Eric) was so helpful and welcoming. He also gave me good tips and info so that I'd go in feeling more prepared since it was my first time ever doing hot yoga. Before class, he introduced me to the instructor, Jenny. She was fantastic. She remembers everyone's names and she somehow manages to provide individual attention to every single yogi there. Also, it was a challenge! It was a pretty tough class and I loved that about it. I really like that she takes advantage of our first child's pose to let people give her a secret little wave if they prefer not to be touched because I have seen reviews of other yoga studios where people complain about being touched. I personally don't mind it as I'd rather have my posture corrected and hands-on is more clear than just hearing it, but not everyone is the same, so I thought it was very respectful and considerate of her. If you are nervous to try hot yoga like I was, definitely try it here. I had a great experience and want to return. read more

I really love the teachers here, Yarrow, Kathryn and John, Sam and others, but the front desk manager is seriously one of the rudest people I've ever encountered. She's loud, aggressive, and doesn't listen. And after she's been corrected on her errors, she has a horrible attitude. If you didn't have to deal with her, this studio would be overall fantastic. You'd think a yoga studio would train their staff better and to create the environment of being a more welcoming, customer-centric community. But not here. Took a 2pm Sunday hot yoga class. The class was okay but the staff were really rude. The receptionist were really rude, specifically the gentleman who was attending the desk. He asked very sarcastic questions for things he thought I should know but being that it was my first class with Bodē and doing hot yoga, I really did not know. After the steam began to irritate my skin (I have an underlying autoimmune disorder which is why I decided to try the class) he told me he recommends I get back in there and just sit on the mat because he turned down people as if my health was inferior. Honestly, I believe it is just the staff that work here that made the experience very uncomfortable. I would not recommend. read more

I have been practicing for years. I go through phases. Sometimes I go very often and sometimes I take breaks. However, hot yoga is the only sports I've ever been faithful to, and this studio is the best. I just brought a friend to a class last Saturday. He recently had surgery, and I managed to convince him that hot yoga would be great for him. I brought him to my favorite teacher's class, Kathryn Leary. Great studio but there are issues. The staff nickel-and-dime you for everything. Whether it's a new set of towels, not being able to attend a class you signed up for, or canceling late, you will be charged an additional 5-10 dollars. Signing up for a class has now become very stressful...you have to sign up a week in advance. You will be on the waitlist for a morning class. In the middle of the night you will be bumped to the front of the line, but you are sleeping. The next morning you wake up and find that you have been charged 10 dollars for not attending that class...wtf. Note to studio: 1. Be slightly more flexible about reasons to charge folks or iou will lose customers. 2. Offer popular classes more often 3. Figure out an easier/less stressful way for your clients to sign up Last, not all teachers are the same. Jenny is phenomenal. Max not so much-step up energy and music in your class, Max! I love this studio when I'm in the mood for a really hot class. I've gone to bikram, hiit, flow and restorative. Loved almost all of them. HIIT is incredibly challenging in the best way! You leave feeling exhausted and sweaty :) Bikram in general tends to push the pose rather than differentiating for ability/body makeup. For example, I have knock knees so I don't stand with my feet together. A few times, the teachers pushed me to change even after I shared and showed why I don't. But, that's the nature of Bikram. I'd recommend you have confidence to do what feels right for you body even if the instructors are pushy. read more

One of the WORST yoga classes I have ever taken. The sun was shining directly in the studio and it was dangerously hot. The workout was mediocre because I had to take so many breaks from the heat. I could tell many of the other yogis were suffering as well. It wasn't about until the class was halfway done that the instructor finally opened a window, but then proceeded to turn the heat up again. I could also hear the construction from across the street over the music- not relaxing. Hot yoga is a passion of mine, and this class was so disappointing. I could barely walk home and spent the rest of the day exhausted and trying to hydrate. It truly ruined my day. If you love hot yoga, stay far far away from Bodē. read more

I love this yoga studio. I signed up for the 21-day trial for $49, which is a great deal. The Hot HIIT and Hot Bikram 90 are my favorite classes. I always left class really sweaty, yet still feeling refreshed and rejuvenated physically and mentally. All instructors at this location were so kind, welcoming, and helpful, esp Regina and Dionne. They gave great instructions on transitioning from poses and even walked around the room to correct your form. I have tried out bode at other locations (midtown and flatiron). But I prefer this studio much better, it seems to be cleanlier and the front desk staff are friendlier. read more

I'm not sure why this business is marked as being closed; Bodē NYC is definitely open and I recommend it to all. I have been coming for about 12 months and have never had a negative experience here. From staff to students, everyone seems to try their best to be friendly and courteous. The facilities have always been clean and the space feels tranquil. The instructors are each different but all have been kind and encouraging while still pushing students to strive for their best. Take your shoes off upon entering; bring your own mat or rent for $5; towels complimentary with each class; shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, & blow dryer available for use in the locker room.
