DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY! We hired Boehmer to do a check on 2 furnaces at one of our rental properties. The technician came out, and did some fiddling around. Next thing I know he's calling us and telling us to even address the issue, we would need a $500+ igniter installed. We paid the $500+ on the spot. About an hour later he calls to tell me that both furnaces are leaking carbon monoxide into our units, and we would need to replace both furnaces immediately. Knowing the holidays are approaching, and understanding that one of the 1 furnaces was only a couple of years old, I decided it would be a good idea to get a second opinion. The second company went over, fixed the faulty igniter that Boehmer had just installed earlier that same day, and then ran carbon monoxide tests. He told me that both units were working fine, and that it's very likely that Boehmer was lying to us. He couldn't fathom why anyone would tell us that the units needed to be replaced. I am not posting this review anonymously. Anyone questioning this is welcome to call me or email me. I have half a mind to write complaints to the better business bureau and the PA attorney general, but figured this would be the best place to start. Oh and last part the gentleman from the second company who came out told me he would have charged about half of what we paid to replace the igniter. If you're thinking about hiring Boehmer just don't. read more

I will say all of their technicians are polite and work hard and the company does respond quickly when we have issues. Today they actually are giving us a part for free to see if this will work; another problem found by our newest technician today . We truly appreciate do this as parts are so expensive! (However we have had many visits where we have put in a new control board and condenser pump and piping plus a new thermostat and other work costing thousands of dollars yet the furnace continues to drop below 65 degrees throughout the day now before the heat will kick on. We have it set constantly at 68 degrees throughout . There is a new technician and part today and I pray he will find the correct answer! read more

Misdiagnosis and $3,100 upsell for an issue that cost $480 to fix. I called Boehmer Heating & Cooling for an AC issue. They told me I had a refrigerant leak and recommended a $3,100 evaporator coil replacement, but provided no leak test report, no pressure readings, and no visual confirmation. I asked multiple times and received only a generic checklist with missing data. I brought in a second licensed HVAC company. They quickly identified the real problem: a missing Schrader valve. It was replaced, the system was recharged, and now everything works perfectly, no coil replacement needed. I paid $480 to Boehmer Heating & Cooling for a misdiagnosis. When asked for a refund, they didn't cooperate. I strongly suggest getting a second opinion before approving any major repair through them. read more

On the coldest day of the year my furnace quit working. I called, to my regret, Boehmer and after 5 days, 4 separate parts and 2 technicians my furnace still wasn't running. After 5 days of frigid cold, the Boehmer tech told me that I needed a new heat exchanger, a $2,500 repair or a new furnace, the furnace is only 10 years old. I decided to get a 2nd opinion and called a local provider. He responded quickly and within 15 minutes diagnosed the (minor) problem and had my furnace up and running. I called to get my service fee refunded, since the quality of service was extremely negligent, and after 2 days of arguing with the customer service rep my number was blocked. I have let all my friends and family know to never use Boehmer for any HVAC service. If I could, I would leave a negative star rating, not the 1 star rating I had to give, since I was totally dissatisfied with the service. read more

Experience had been okay with the company in the past, but things started to take a free fall in the recent contract year that we were in. Like other reviews mentioned, their technician, or at least one who was sent to our house for maintenance, clearly knows less about AC than us, and we only have that knowledge by chatting during previous years' maintenance trips. We were unsure what else he missed on that trip, but we are sure at least he didn't clean the HVAC part that ended up causing flooding in the furnace room that ruined our newly installed floor. And we have to have someone to fix the mess. The most horrendous part was when we brought this up to their manager Kevin, not only did he not apologize for his crew's poor job or offered a solution, he claimed new hires were 70% of the crew and it's a new norm that we need to accept. Ask yourself again why you want to waste time& money and risk other potential damages with this company while enjoying the arrogant manner and poor quality. read more

To date 10-11 service calls (7/14/24) Techs try to resolve issues (blades, condenser, refrigerant) Our "new" AC unit is now rebuilt and still doesn't work as it should. Frankly I chose them because they had Saturday hours. I naively thought the problem of our A/C going out DURING A HEATWAVE would be fixed ASAP. Silly me. It was not and we sweated through 6 very long days until they could replace our A/C unit. To be fair, the dude that came out on Saturday did try and fix the unit. Knowing it was on the older side I had my doubts it was going to be fixed. Alas, we got the bad news we'd have to replace the whole unit. We made an appointment for Tuesday to have their salesman come out and give us a quote. Of course he worked an expensive one and a slightly cheaper one and said the difference was that one was a little louder. Whatever, it's new, I'm sure it's not as loud as the old one, so we went with the cheaper one. And by cheap I mean almost $5k with service. So it was not cheap by any means and hurts the bank account. The guys that came to replace the unit were polite and efficient. Both wore masks whenever they were in the house or around us. Plus, I liked that they laid down painters cloth for their path in our finished basement. It was just polite. They were right on time and finished within an hour of when they originally quoted us. The unit is efficient. I think we have to read a little more about it or will follow up with a call. We had a couple questions but with COVID didn't really want anyone hanging out in the house more than needed. I would hire them, although hopefully we won't need to for a long time! read more

They will Come out diagnose one problem only to find another then another, etc and before you know it you're replacing 3-4 parts when the original problem was misdiagnosed or not properly installed/fix. Worst plumber experience of my life. I'll never call them again, and I hope other people don't get stuck with them either. They talked us into a very expensive boiler, and then when it broke down only a few years later, they were unable or unwilling to repair it. They dragged their feet on scheduling technicians and they delayed ordering parts. We had multiple bad diagnoses and work that did not fix the problem. It took 2 months of our family freezing in our house before they fixed it, and in addition to paying for the actual repair, they're insisting that we pay for the work that didn't fix the boiler as well. Meantime, this is a boiler that they installed! They should know how to fix it, and they should care when families are freezing in their own homes. read more

I have had a maintenance plan for a couple years. I was new in town and should have read reviews before going with this company. My experience matches many others. Most recently, a tech came for scheduled A/C maintenance on my 2 units. One unit had an issue for which they provided an estimate of $3600 (almost 2x the high end of the national average). Now skeptical, I went out to my units (that had just been serviced), and service caps were not replaced - just left in the dirt. Unit had not been cleaned/hosed which off should be done during service. These were just issues I could see without any expertise! I asked for the remainder of my service agreement to be refunded (didn't even ask for the incomplete service to be refunded, just the remainder!) Not possible. After I explained in detail WHY it should be refunded (The service plan was not as advertised. Namely, discounts on parts and service when price was 2x national average) I was told contradictory information. First, oh that was human error. We didn't know you were a signature member. The price was really XXX. Then, part was more expensive because it was special due to age. I paid a premium for a service that was not honored, and the only response was: That was just human error (both the technician and the office staff apparently - just my bad luck). I am taking my business to a company that stands behind their products and works to solve problems if they arise. read more

My furnace installed by Boehmer has failed 7 times in 11 years. I bought the lifetime warranty on parts & labor & they charged $90 to come out. They eventually refused to honor the warranty as it was too expensive for them. Furnace is now dead again & I'll need to replace it with another brand (Trane?) and installer. read more

I had someone from Boehmer come out to my house in the Fall of 2016 to look over our heating/cooling system, since we had been in the house for about a year but hadn't done any maintenance on our HVAC system yet. From the moment the guy arrived, it was pretty apparent that he was trying to upsell us hard and thought I didn't know squat about HVAC stuff (which, to be fair, is true, but still...). He took a quick look at our outdoor A/C unit and quickly insulted it and couldn't believe it was still running (it's still running fine as of Spring 2018). He pretty much had the same reaction to our furnace (i.e. "this is a POS"). He poked around in the furnace a bit and then proclaimed that the heat exchanger was rusted to the point that it needed to be replaced, and that would be about $1250. I was immediately skeptical and did some internet research. While a cracked heat exchanger is a serious issue, simply the fact that it is rusted does nothing to indicate that it's cracked or needs to be replaced. I got some new CO detectors so we didn't die and just left it alone. It's been fine since. On top of all that, he left mud tracks in our kitchen when he came upstairs after doing his "inspection" and was completely oblivious to this and didn't apologize. I had to get the blower motor replaced in the furnace in early 2018, but other than that, the furnace has still been going strong. TL;DR: Bad. read more

I used this company in August because my in laws A/C wasn't working. I called them on a Saturday and a repairman came out. The guy was new to the company. He looked at the unit and said it needed refrigerant because it must have a leak. He first said I needed 4 pounds of the refrigerant because I had a leak then he said he could not put it in without repairing the leak. I explained to him that we didn't want to do this and just put in the the refrigerant. He said it was against the law to not repair a leak. He had no idea where the leak could be. I told him I had just had my own A/C leaking a bit and the refrigerant was added without a problem. He said he was following company rules. I told him to leave and I called another company that came and added 1.5 lbs of refrigerant, much less than the other repairman had said and this company wasn't aware of any law against adding refrigerant. The unit since then has worked fine. I would not use this company again. read more

My Parents A/C stopped blowing cold air. They called Boehmer. The guy came and told us the refrigerant was leaking and that the coil was the wrong size based on the condenser. Boehmer told my parents they needed a new AC unit and it would run $4,500. I became more than suspicious. I talked my mom into calling my usual appliance repairman and to make a long story short, he came out, confirmed there indeed was a leak, but he used a sealer combined with the refrigerant...problem solved. $200. For what it's worth, I asked the second repairman how much he would charge for a new AC unit and he said about $2,300, which is basically half what Boehmer quoted. The second repairman also said the coil was indeed the proper size based on the condenser. Basically, Boehmer just lies their way into trying to sell their most expensive product. Companies like Boehmer make me sick. You've been warned. read more

I called Boehmer because the furnace wouldn't turn on. Between the time of the call and the technician's visit, we got the furnace working -- it was just a loose wire. However I kept the appointment so they could inspect and provide maintenance. It was obvious that all the guy was interested in was selling me a new furnace. He told me he knew there was rust deep inside the furnace because there was evidence of moisture when he removed the panel. He told me I was in danger of CO poisoning and showed me quotes for a new furnace. He provided no maintenance service, and a little bell went off inside me -- all this guy wants is a sale. I guess my furnace is old and I do need to start thinking about a new one, but whenever a company makes me feel like a giant dollar sign, I don't want to buy from them. read more

We had a new air conditioner installed in our house a few weeks ago. The house had never had AC just heat and we were told our existing heater was quite large but they were able to reroute the ductwork some to make it fit which was a lot cheaper than buying a newer, smaller heater. It took them 2 and a half days to finish and they were very professional the entire time - always on time and kept a good pace. We were also mailed a box of cookies a week later as a thank you for our business... That was a surprisingly nice gesture. If you are in the market for a Nest thermostat, they installed ours with no issue or extra cost. I would recommend them to anyone and use them again in the future. read more

I started using Boehmer in 1985 at my home and several rental properties since. I always had the sense they were an honest family-owned business, but no more. They seem to have become the Gillece of HVAC. Their stock and trade is now 'service contracts'. On a recent home furnace repair they charged $470 plus labor for a $130 part; and did not provide an estimate (verbal or written) in advance. On a recent rental service call, they could not get their story straight about what repair was needed, and did not ever address the problem they were called to fix. I wouldn't use them again. During the installation of our AC they apparently knocked the breaker for my electric dryer loose. When I went to do laundry as soon as they left I noticed my dryer was tumbling but not heating. I called my dad who said that if the line wasn't receiving full power that the dryer motor would operate but not the heating coil. I called Boehmer and the guy on call told me the dryer shouldn't operate at all, which isn't true. I explained it to him and he still insisted the dryer shouldn't run. They couldn't come back out until two days later. My fiance who works away from home most of the week comes back last night and checks the line, it's not receiving full power. When the guys show up I tell them that. They go around with their meter and say everything is fine with the dryer line and that it's nothing they did. They say the line is receiving full power. They tell me my dryer is just broken or not working correctly even though it's brand new and worked the day before they came. They say there could be nothing that they did to cause my dryer not to work. The tell me my fiance's volt meter is faulty and insinuate he doesn't know what he's doing because he's not an electrician. Two hours after they leave my fiance comes home from the office, gets out the meter and it shows again the line isn't receiving power. My dad tells him how to check the breaker for the line, he takes it out and pushes it back in and suddenly everything works again. The line now has full power. It takes all of ten minutes. Meanwhile the "professionals" were here much longer than that and didn't think to check the breaker. It's pretty simple to understand that if my brand new dryer worked immediately before they came, and didn't immediately after, that it was something they did. I don't know why they insisted that they were getting a normal reading on the line unless they were lying. The breaker was obviously loose and the line didn't have full power. Having the breaker get knocked loose when they did the electric isn't a terrible mistake, but the way they dealt with the situation was. If they knew what they were doing the solution would have been obvious and the fact that they insisted that my dryer just coincidentally broke is completely ridiculous. The way they acted like we were imagining things or that my fiance and dad don't know what they are talking about is also ridiculous. My dad went to school for this and has decades of experience. Dryer and everything else works just great now, with 10 minutes of effort that these people couldn't be bothered with. I won't be calling them for service or to do any kind of work ever again. read more

John Grivna came out to the house the same day and was amazing. He allowed me to walk around with him so I could learn about my system and showed me everything he was doing, explained the tests he was performing and where he was getting the numbers from. When he found a questionable part, he did multiple tests before recommending replacement clearly explaining why it should be replaced (and offering a 5 year warranty on the replacement part). There was no pressure at all and he showed me on his tablet exactly where he was getting the prices from for the recommended actions he was making. I bought a furnace and air conditioner from this company in 2009; 13 years ago. I have had repeated and multiple issues with the system starting 2 years after my purchase. Every technician who has ever worked on it over the years (I have only called this company for service by the way) told me what an awful system it was and that it was a lemon. It even broke down on Christmas Eve one year. I made a routine appointment to have my HVAC inspect and clean. On the day of the appointment, the technician called and said he would be here in 5 minutes. He showed up 70 minutes later. The air-conditioning was working perfectly fine. I have no idea what he did as he could not explain to me in laymen's terms. In the end what I got out of our conversation was him telling me yet again what an awful system it was and that I should just buy a new one as it would cost too much to repair. I was so discussed I told him to just put everything back as it was and leave. By 6 PM the temperature was 80 degrees in my home so I shut the system off. I called a new HVAC Company. The new company, Jeff Sorick Heating and Cooling, came the next day and did an inspection. I had asked the Boehmer technician to put everything back the way it was. I specifically told him I did not want dye. My nephew owns a Heating and Cooling Company in Delaware and has always told me never to allow dye as it clogs the system. Well my air conditioner was turned off at the outside unit. The Boehmer technician also put dye in against my wishes. Unbelievable. I do not blame the technician. I blame the Boehmer company for not training and supporting him properly. He was a very nice young man and I feel sorry for him having to work for Boehmer. My new company was able to pinpoint the issue and have my air conditioner back up and running within a half hour. They assured me it will last the rest of the summer and advised me to take my time picking out a new HVAC. You can be assured I will not be calling Boehmer to install my new furnace and air conditioner. It has been 3 days now and Boehmer has yet to respond to my complaint or even offer an apology. read more

They installed a new furnace and AC in 2014 after recommending a higher blower capacity. Prior to this the house was always too hot upstairs and too cold in the basement in the summer and in the winter the reverse was true. After contacting Boehmer the other day to fix my AC (OK fixed the heater AND now AC, what else can go wrong? knock on wood) Sadly, this time I feel totally taken advantage of so I need to downgrade my rating. Several people we have spoken to have stated that we paid WAY too much for this part replacement, and I agree after seeing how much this part actually costs. I was extremely pleased and satisfied with the furnace repair from Boehmer Heating & Cooling in December 2014. They came the very next day after I called, and the repair guy showed up in the exact time window I had been given. That alone is wonderful these days, when service people often arrive HOURS after the designated time frame. (Although, I do understand that sometimes it's not their fault, it's still a pleasant surprise when the service technician is on time.) The repair person was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. He diagnosed the problem and got the furnace up and running in less than an hour! (It needed a new part.) I thought the price for the diagnostics, the part and labor was very fair, and I would not hesitate to call Boehmer again in the future, although I HOPE I don't have to for a long time, if you know what I mean.
