The hype is real. I haven't written a review in ages. Bogart's has compelled me to write a review. First I want to say I was not sold on STL BBQ. I went to the recommended "good" places and walked away disappointed. I happen to be in Soulard one day and noticed Bogart's closed because they sold out. That's a big green flag to me. Not open Sunday and Monday, green flag. Primarily open for lunch, green flag. I just knew I had to check it out. Finally got the opportunity to check it out and boy was it delicious. I got a two meat plate with two sides. I got the tri tip, ribs, baked beans, and deviled potato salad. The deviled egg potato salad taste like it sounds. It taste like potato salad and and deviled egg had a baby. Never seen such a creation but I knew I needed to have it. The baked beans were out of this world!! Top three baked beans I've ever had!! A little smokey, a little sweet, and just the right consistency as far as thickness for me A1 . The ribs by far the best ribs I've had in STL. Very flavorful and tender. The tri tip it was ok. I've never had it shaved before and couldn't really get a good grasp on the flavor. It wasn't bad, just not the way I've had tri tip previously. All of their BBQ sauces were fantastic as well!! I was super excited to see they added burnt ends to the menu when I recently ate here. But then they brought them to the table. Instead of paying for Brisket, they totally cheaped out and got chuck roast instead. They were a $23/LB fatty mess. No place on the menu does it say chuck, and egregiously for the price, about 1/4 of what we paid for was inedible fat, as chuck tends to be. Not worth my pretty penny. All that said, to be completely fair, the ribs and wings were very good, as they've always been, as with their sauces, which are top notch. I stopped in today (6/30/2026) for the first time while visiting St. Louis. The place is small but has a great amd efficient system for ordering and receiving your food. As soon as you walk in you order and pay at the register. You get your drink and then take a seat. Your food is delivered to you at your table after they call your name. I got the half slab of ribs with sweet and sour slaw and the deviled egg potato salad. I found everything to be absolutely delicious! The ribs came well sauced so I did not have the need to add or try their sauce options. The portion was huge and I could not even finish it all. Bogart's lives up to the hype! We took in the menu, asked some questions and settled on our lunch after visiting the Gateway Arch on a Saturday. The friendly front of house recommended the beef ribs which I couldn't believe -- fall off the bone, tender, flavorful, and leaves you wanting more. The brisket sandwich h was also flavorful and tender. We enjoyed the sides (potato salad, pickles, beans and applesauce). I LOVED the beans, so filling and complex. I only wished the applesauce was warm. They had great options for sauces on the tables too -- all were great! Be prepared for messy faces and hands! Good thing their bathrooms are clean and easily accessible! Indoor and outdoor seating, steady traffic and friendly staff that checked on us frequently. We've lived in the area for probably close to a decade now and have somehow always missed Bogarts. I mean, we know it's there...but by the time we would think about it, they were out of meat. BUT we finally did it after a morning market run, and we realize we messed up by not making more of an effort all those years. There will be a line, but I promise it goes quick. And they serve even quicker. It was crazy. We were asked probably 10 times during our meal if we were okay/enjoying it. They like to make sure their customers are taken care of. The food was amazing, I'm from Northern California and I was STOKED to see tri tip on the menu. They did not disappoint! I can't believe my last review of Bogart's was in 2013! Holy Cow. When I worked downtown, Bogart's was one of our go-to spots for lunch. We have visited for take home and lunch on Saturday's, I guess I just hadn't done an updated review. Greeted at the door where you order and find a table. If you ordered drinks, you head up to the front and grab those. When your order is ready they call your name and you raise your hand so they can drop it at your table. Since I am on a new pastrami kick, that is what I ordered with a side of deviled egg potato salad. Hubby ordered Brisket and a half slab of ribs with baked beans. Pastrami came on rye with a packet of Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard. I was so good, pile high with meat, great smokey flavor. Another great place to get a good pastrami! I enjoyed the potato salad more than I remembered! I helped myself to a slice of brisket, great flavor, lots of juice, very good. While traveling to San Antonio we decided to stop in St. Louis for some great BBQ. While researching where to go, this place hit all the marks--great reviews, solid BBQ menu, and not too far off of I44. Upon exiting I44 it is about a 10 min ride to the place. Bogarts is set in a cute part of the city with many other restaurants and a summer farmers market. Please note---parking can be difficult (at least it was for us on a Saturday). The place itself is casual and not big, but there is outdoor seating. It was clean, order at the counter, And food came out fairly quickly. My wife, and two kids aged 19 and 15, all had the pulled pork sand. I had the brisket. All was yummy and it was a good portion of meat. They had several sauces to choose from. For sides, my wife had the pickles and slaw while I had the beans and potato salad. My wife loved her pickles, but vinegar based slaw is not her fav. I tasted the slaw and it was good. The pickles were sweet and spicy. For me, the potato salad was yummy, and the beans might have been the best thing on the talented culinary table. So good. They have soda, beer and soda available. The pulled pork and smoked turkey were standouts for me (try the turkey with the cranberry barbecue sauce; it's savory with just a subtle taste of cranberry flavor). The vinegar based cole slaw was crisp and flavorful, and perfect to put on top of the pulled pork and a slice of plain white bread. The brisket was tender and portions were large enough to have leftovers for brisket & eggs the next day....basically we loved everything we tried! The was perfect as the family usually gets those two favorites. About 2 hours before the posted closing time found the place to be empty and beginning they close down procedures. Bogarts also takes their ribs one step further with an apricot glaze and a finishing torch to get that shine and crisp. The ribs were juicy and pulling away from the bone. Even the fat and cartilage clinging to the bone was great. You can season them up with BBQ sauces named for the owner's family members, Sweet Maegan Ann is the owner's daughter and Mad Maddie is an adventurous niece, I also liked the spicy Voodoo sauce. The best burnt ends I had in St Louis were at Bogarts, and I tried them everywhere. Peppery, juicy, fatty, smoky, meaty. You could taste garlic and a slight sweetness. I didn't understand why people love burnt ends until I had these. The potato salad is mustardy and eggy. The barbecue beans were full of pulled pork. It's a small place. I go to Bogart's for the best-tasting ribs in the world. Their ribs feature a slightly sweet glaze with a hint of apricot -- so delicious I skip the sauce. The ribs gift you two dishes in one due to how they are cooked. The glaze on top of these ribs is sightly charred, caramelizing the sugars and creating a chewy layer that leaves me slowly peeling and devouring it with eyes closed. Underneath that caramelization is a, pardon the term, moist, juicy layer of meat that perfectly counterbalances the caramelization. Oblivious to the juice running down my beard, I swap between the layers of caramelization and juicy; occasionally gnawing on some bone for that last bit of meat, knowing I'm tasting BBQ heaven. The friendly owner and staff are efficient at getting you your meats. It has that classic BBQ joint atmosphere, but remember it is not a huge space so you may need to get your meat to go at peak times. The founding chef of Pappy's and probably the most knowledgeable man in St. Louis on the subject of barbecue. That being said, his food is out of this world.
