Another customer was in before me waiting for a haircut(no appt.) 11:20am he's done with the current customer. Larry motions the other customer(no appt) to hop on the chair. I asked Larry" I'm your 11:00, should I just keep waiting?". He proceeds to tell me to "Get Out, your harassing the customers!" NOT TRUE WHAT SO EVER. Even told the other customer to go in front of me. Wow. Will never set foot in that place again. First time he cut my hair left him a $10.00 tip. read more

Awesome cut. One chair. Neck shave. $13. Those were my quick bullets. I love this barber shop. There is only one chair, but that makes it so much better. I know who is going to cut my hair. When I said just give me a short summer cut, he did it. I'm thinking that means run the clippers through the hair and done. But, there was more - clippers, scissors, review, fine tuning, and presto, great cut! But wait, there's more - warm razor neck shave included in that $13 haircut. Bogie's is a small barber shop (only 3 chairs) in the heart of Broad Ripple. I had a 5 PM appointment and was promptly welcomed right at 5 PM. The hair stylist was very conversational and throughly cared about my input in the haircut process. It was a quick and professional cut and he even shaved the back of my head and applied a nice after shave. The haircut was topped off with some nice style gel. This entire hair salon experience was only $13. Phenomenal place to get your haircut, especially if you're looking to save some money. I will be coming back here in the future! I took my 86 year old grandfather to this barber shop. He is very picky and Larry was very patient with him and helped him achieve the look he want for his hair. I dropped my grandfather and he waited for about an hour. I walked around the area visiting near by businesses in an effort not to ruin the guys only vibe. I'm going to post this just so that everybody knows.. don't ever go to Bogie's barber shop in broad ripple! This man turned me away because I'm a female, although I have a buzz cut. I made an appointment with him over the phone under the name "Sam" (my name) and when I walked in he immediately got aggressive and told me that he doesn't do women's cuts. When I asked him what's the difference between my hair and a man's hair he threatened to call the police on me and my friend for "harassing" him.... Highly would NOT recommend doing business here, even if you are a man. If you are a woman or have any women in your life that you care about I would highly recommend going anywhere else. He does not deserve our money!!!! This is 2021, it's way past time to start treating people like people. read more

I loved this place! My first time there Larry knew exactly what I was looking for with my hair. He explained reasons that other people didn't exactly make it work previous times I had it cut. And at $13 dollars a cut its very affordable! I am definitely coming back here to have Larry cut my hair again! He charges only 13 dollars because of the short time it takes to cut Men's hair and due to the fact he doesn't take appointments. A woman's haircut costs 5x as much as a man's because it takes longer. I have been going to Bogie's for about a year. It is a fairly small one-man barbershop in Broad Ripple. It has the classic, 1950's barbershop aesthetic with old fashioned barber chairs and signs. Larry, the owner, is a very interesting person. He takes pride in doing a fantastic job with his haircuts and takes his time to make sure it is exactly how you want it. I would have to say that it's the best hair cut I've ever had and he got it right the very first time. Larry's personality can be hit or miss depending on the client. He doesn't shy away from talking politics and his point of view and will occasionally make some comments that come off as racist/sexist. Personally, none of this offends me but it's something to keep in mind. The price is great. 13$ for a hair cut. He shaves your neck with a single blade which is a nice touch. If you go during his busier times you could wait for an hour to two hours. Call him beforehand to see what the wait looks like. The only reason this isn't five stars is because Larry talks too much sometimes and the cut takes 20 minutes longer than it should because of it. read more

How this place is rated so highly before me I will never know, because I will never go to Bogie's again. After searching yelp for a baber near broad ripple I found Bogie's. When I arrived it was just Larry and I, and I asked him for a short hair cut for the summer, nothing fancy. After the cut I looked in the mirror and could not register how bad my hair was. I left quickly (still tipped him even though I don't think he deserved it for the massacre he pulled off in my hair) because I didn't want him + scissors near my hair anymore. The next day (after a few comments from friends on how "[my hair] now looks.....weird") I went back to Bogie's to see if Larry would fix it. He was busy (I'm sure he would've done it regardless) but I was in a rush so I went to another barber in town. The other barber (who'll remain nameless for integrity) just laughed when I told him. Apparently I was not the first Bogie defect a la Larry. The other barber was a true professional and showed me multiple cases where Larry just didn't bother to measure or whatever they do to make the hair look acceptable. The other barber fixed my hair in about 15 mins. He also didn't charge me and told me "I don't care if you come back here but do not go back to Bogie's for the sake of your hair". Long story short- Larry cut my hair, it was horribly unprofessionally done, went to get it fixed by nearby barber who told me this wasn't his first fix job of Larry. After a disappointing visit to a Yelp favorite, I was back on the trail, seeking a barber I could trust. Barbershops are special places. This is where a man gets his haircut, shoots the bull with other men, and relaxes in a place that is just for him. Introduce one woman into the mix as either a customer or employee and it ceases to be a barbershop for the duration of her visit. This is a fact. I don't make the rules, I just obey'em. I had seen Bogie's on my numerous trips to Dagwood's and decided to give it a shot. Hello! Now this is how it is done! First of all, Larry is a great guy who knows what he's doing behind the chair. I had to wait as he took his time with the guy before me. That is good. He SHOULD take plenty of time to get it right. That's how you know you are in turn going to get a good cut. I was really looking forward to my cut as I could just tell he knew what he was doing. Too many guys today just take a damn clipper to everything without really knowing what they're doing. Larry is as good with scissors as he is with clippers, and he is good with clippers. Secondly, as Larry's taking his time to get it right, you learn stuff. I learned about a great brunch near the speedway and the history of that particular restaurant. We also discussed some political issues in a respectful way. I appreciated that Larry had an actual opinion instead of just catering to the views of whoever is in the room. This is a place you can have a real conversation. Finally, the cut was terrific. Larry gave me the best haircut I've had in a LONG time and only charged $13 + tip. He also knows how to finish it, trimming up the eyebrows, adding a splash of whatever it is they use in hair, and giving a proper dusting so you're not a hairball when you leave. A tremendous bargain and I am a thrilled customer. I have found my new barber!! read more

Strongly recommend. edit - been going here near a year now so I figured I would update. I'd say about 50% of the time, my hair looks exactly how I want it after leaving. Another 45%, it's pretty close (and good enough for $13). But it does seem like 5% of the time, I leave a bit surprised at how it turned out. I stopped by with my girlfriend and my son and after waiting through two haircuts he tells us he does not cut women's hair. I have an undercut which I sort of got, but was still confused, but my girlfriend has a man's haircut! Only goes to barber shops. We left without getting my son's haircut. Glad we held hands while sitting there - I hope we made him uncomfortable. It's astonishing to me that he has managed to stay in business in broad ripple. Antisemitic, very pro-trump... Made numerous antisemitic statements while he was cutting my hair. The financial channel was playing on his tv which triggered him to start making comments about how "Jewish people just like to fight, some of them are probably okay people, but most of them just like to fight." Very uncomfortable and awkward haircut. The shop was full with people waiting...pin drop silence after he started making these comments. Made some strange comments about immigrants as well. I came here on the recommendation of a friend. I should preface that I am gender queer. I believe there is only one person working here- Larry. He refused me service bc I am 'female'. I told him I wanted a mans cut and it was offensive that he assumed I was female. His response was that he could call the police and have me arrested for trespassing. I personally had an unforgettable first impression with the owner Larry. I called the barber shop at 3:15 on a Saturday afternoon, after asking if there were any appointments available the gentleman that answered the phone informed me that the shop had closed at 3pm. The gentleman then asked how far away I was and said that he would wait for me. I arrived 20 minutes later and called the shop again because I was having a trouble finding it. Mr. Larry answered and walked out side to spot me across the street looking lost and calmly directed me to where he was standing. This man was so patient and friendly usually barber shops do not even answer the phone after hours. Now for the meat and the potatoes, I showed Mr. Larry a picture of a haircut on my phone and he nailed it. Was very precise and detailed. Very personable and just a hell of a nice guy. O. M. G. What an unbelievably nasty man. I stuck my head in his doorway, my 6 and 8 year old on either side, asking how long the wait was to get my kid's haircut. He sneered, gestured to the people waiting, "you're looking at it." I said, "I was asking for a time estimate." He raised his voice, "GIT!! Git our of here lady!!!" On multiple occasions the owner has stayed later than the posted hours to accommodate all patrons. A straight razor shave on the back of the neck and sideburns is included in the haircut. read more
