Despite being pretty busy, I was given an appointment at 1130 - sooner than I had expected. Ciera provided cut and did an amazing job! Took time to ensure she understood what I was looking for prior to the cut, and executed flawlessly. You can tell by how she cuts that she is a perfectionist. She was very precise with her angles and in ensuring evenness of the cut. Ciera was friendly through the appointment, and sought feedback at the end. I have been going to Red's when in Indianapolis for nearly 20 years. I admittedly stopped going based on a bad hair cut about 4 years ago. I decided to give it another go. Michael was assigned to do a beard trim and scalp massage. During our discussions it was decided, based on my request to get my edges cleaned up, that would include a "haircut." Michael was very nice as was everyone. But he struggled with steadiness and his hands noticeably shook. Not a great feeling when facing a straight razor. He struggled to understand what clean up of the edges looked like. My mistake (my first beard trim at Red's) was to read that a free hand trim didn't even include a shave of the lower neck. Regardless, the haircut only covered the lower one inch around the edges. Just what I wanted but it was still the same cost as a full haircut. Additionally, Michael gouged my hair over the ears. No apologies and offered to fix itu. Don't think it really could be. I have loved this place and the idea of an old style barber. But I can say that the idea and the execution are not the same. It pains me that the work has gotten worse and not better. I can't speak to every barber. And I can't speak to every haircut. But once again, for the second time in 5 years, my hair trim was over $30 and the hair is gouged. It will grow. I hope Red's can continue to grow too. My son Inlaw told me about Red's, so I had to check it out. As I walked in the barber shop I was greeted by the responses. They were very polite, friendly and considerate. I was 45 minutes early, the staff still took care of me, with in minutes I was offered water or coffee. I asked for rum. Laura (my Barber) showed up and took care of me. I wanted to give this place a try and just went for a razor bald and hot towel treatment. The cut was bad. Although he used his hands to feel for rough spots, he wasn't able to get a smooth cut. I do a much better job using a regular razor. To top it off, it costed $40 for a hot towel, bad bald head shave, and a cold towel at the end. I have been going to Red's now for a little over a year. After initially trying out some of the other barber shops downtown, I settled with Red's and couldn't be happier. The atmosphere is if you just walked into a 1940's barber shop, with checkered floors, classical music, old-school barber chairs, and the barbers all dressed to the nine's, tie and all. The staff is all very friendly and professional. Appointments can be made in the store, online, or by telephone. They also except walk-ins if there are openings. Price is very reasonable -- $25 for a classic cut. And unlike some other barber shops in the area, Red's accepts both credit/debit card and cash! Wait you mean there are still some establishments that don't accept a credit card in 2019?? You bet! But if you come to Red's, you won't have to worry about hitting up an ATM first. They also sell a variety of hair styling and beard shaving products. Last but not least, you can get your leather shoes polished here as they have shoeshiner who works in the front of the shop. I got one of the worst haircuts of my life here. I figured I'd try them out because they're downtown, they can't be that bad, right? I showed up for a walk-in appointment and was greeted by a homeless guy asking if he could shine my shoes. I'm glad they're trying to give them some work, but a very off-putting vibe to start out with, I should've taken the hint and walked right out. I just started a new job, and was forced to look like a retard for my second week due to the terrible cut I received and no time to go to my usual barber. I went to my usual guy this week and he said it was a very uneven cut. Not to mention this was one of the most expensive haircuts I've ever paid for. Extremely dissatisfied with the service I received. If I could save one person from getting a bad cut, that's the only reason I'm writing this review. Actually, only give me an upvote if this stopped you from getting a cut, I want to see something. So pissed off, am I supposed to specify to the barber I don't want a cut like a teenager? I decided to treat myself to something nice prior to going on vacation. I decided to get a haircut and face treatment at Reds and was able to get in same day. I am a life long Indiana resident and expected the best. During my haircut the female barber accidentally cut my face with the razor blade, I didn't say anything or complain as accidents happen. She apologized and comped my haircut. She then proceeded to the face treatment, all was good for a couple of days. 2-3 days after my haircut, I noticed red spots like an acne breakout in my hair and around the cut. I left for vacation started running a fever and started having a more intense breakout. When I got to my destination I felt horrible and went to an urgent care. Sadly I found out that my insurance wouldn't cover medical care out of state unless I was seen in an emergency room. I paid the $160 to be seen at the urgent care and diagnosed with a bacterial skin infection. The doctor warned of the severity of the infection and stated the likely cause was the haircut. I was given an antibiotic and 48 hours to improve or start IV antibiotics. The oral antibiotics have been successful however ruined my vacation with diarrhea and being ill. Accidents happen however this became a pretty severe accident that I learned was most likely due to dirty, unsanitary practices. read more

I recently started working downtown and have wanted to try Red's for a while now. It was super easy to schedule my haircut and beard trim online as you can pick your date/time as well as your barber. I selected William Hogg and was not disappointed! He was friendly and took his time with my hair making changes as I instructed him to along the way. The environment is from the 20s and the ambiance is classy. The place even smells like a barber shop should! I really liked their selection of new age products as well as old timey standbys. My fiancé has been a regular at Red's for years with no issues. However, when he came home from his last haircut he felt the back of his head and asked me, "Do I have a bald spot?" Sure enough, when I looked I noticed a round (1.5" in diameter) shaved spot on the back of his otherwise full head of hair. This wasn't a small mistake. Not only had the barber made a severe error, he didn't say anything about it, collected his payment (plus a $10 tip), and let my fiancé walk out of Red's like nothing was wrong. My fiancé called Red's and explained the situation, but by the time we both noticed the error the barbershop was closed. The receptionist told him to come back the following day even though the barber who messed up wouldn't be there. He went back and obviously there's nothing you can do to fix a shaved bald spot, but the new barber tried to modify the cut so it'd be less noticeable. My fiancé was never offered a refund and when he requested that his $10 tip be transferred to the new barber who tried to lessen the error, he was told no. Mistakes happen, but letting a customer leave looking ridiculous and hoping they won't notice is unacceptable. The lack of effort by management to rectify the situation is also unacceptable. He's lucky it didn't happen closer to our wedding day, but now he gets to find time to find another barber who doesn't do something this disrespectful again. read more

I downloaded Yelp just to write this review. It was the WORST hair cutting experience of my life. Before asking what I want or even touching my hair she was already going to town with her clippers. Then she has the audacity to say a good haircut cut starts with communication. Also they had big, beautiful mirrors but i guess that would be too easy. Instead she made me hold a rusty hand-held mirror and turned my back to the wall. And the icing on the cake was when she smeared the shaving cream on my shirt to clean off her hands. She was late and rushed my appointment, gave me a bad haircut and had the personality of a door knob. WASTE of $28 and a Saturday. read more

So I have been coming here since it opened, literally when I moved to a new city for a while I came back to get my hair cut. Awesome place, I don't often write reviews but when I saw some of the BS reviews i felt the need. The barbers are good and professional, I go to Laura for consistency but they are all good. I work in hotels locally and over years have sent literally thousands of people here with the only complaint being is that it can be busy so I recommend calling in advance. And as of today I'm definitely not going to stop there, even if it is the last barber shop on earth. Location: it's in the cente of the downtown, so good luck finding a spot. Or just pay a 6-9 dollar/hr parking! Appointments: They are always "busy", even though you walk by, you'd see empty chairs, and the barbers smoking outside. Barbers: They used to have good individuals, but they quit! And only the unexperienced individuals are left. (I swear) everytime I go home I have to fix my hair by myself. One time, I actually had yo pay another barber that same day to fix it. Comfort: if you want to donate blood this is the spot. They cut you down, and make you neck bruise for a couple of days. Their clippers, and trimmers are so dull that you fill them digging in your skin. For God's sake, just change them. Or when I say it hurts, stop! Don't change to the other side of my head. Also, why is the tiny hair all the way down in my pants! Why do I have to get a shower after each haircut. Fair prices, friendly staff, consistent cut, great location. I'm 26 years old and the same person had cut my hair since I was about 10 - so when I moved to Indianapolis last year I was worried about finding somewhere I could go for a consistent, quality haircut and beard trim. Red's has been fantastic in filling that role. I've now been four times, after the first time I decided I liked the quality and service so much, that the second time I went I scheduled an appointment and asked for the same barber. Al has now cut my hair for the last year and has done a great job at it. The first time I went I got the haircut and razor shave (I was clean shaven at the time), and it was a great experience. Especially considering it was my first time there. I almost immediately scheduled an appointment for down the road to return a couple months later. I've now been going for the last year and have grown out my beard - the beard trim service was also top notch, taking my look from "chic homeless person" to "well-groomed professional". This has been my place to get a haircut since it first opened years ago. Hop in the classic barber chairs and get lined up or a clean shave. This location has a shoe shine service and during normal times you can sit in the chair while it is being done or they will remove your shoes while getting your cut and complete the service. Up front they have nice hats, hair products, cuff links and some nice straight razors. Make sure you book an appointment because some days they can be fully booked. read more
