Tarin is excellent. When I first came to BH and meet with her I had bad damage in the back of my head and she worked with me over a few months to blend and repair and gave me some tips to prevent this happening again. My hair never looked so good. Aside from the damage she was one of the first stylists in ages that didn't tell me I had to get a blunt bob. When you have fine thin hair that's what they all say but she was up for the challenge. She's a nice person too, I love this place. read more

I haven't had my hair done in a salon for years. I want to premise this review with that. I wasn't sure what to expect but all I knew is that I wanted my balayage extensions to match my own version black hair. I was skeptical but I gave it a try. I went with Stylist Morgan to create my balayage look. Can I just tell you - she did an amazing job. She was professional, calm and very confident that she could achieve my balayage ombre highlight to perfectly match my extensions. And she was right! They came out amazing! She was very patient, and sweet and she managed the time well. I am so thrilled at how my hair turned out. I've been coming here for a few years now and I have had an excellent experience every time. I have my balayage done by Jasmine, who is incredibly talented, and my cuts done by Taryn, who is equally awesome. I always wait way too long between appointments and they never give me a hard time about it. When my son decided he wanted to cut his long hair short, Emily gave him exactly the cut he wanted and he loved it. Warning: This salon will use photos of you and post them on social media and on their website without your consent! I have been to this salon one time 5 years ago for a cut and color. I liked how my hair looked at the time, and allowed the stylist to take pictures of my hair when she asked. Weeks later, my blonde highlights turned orange and I haven't been back. I went to another salon in the neighborhood to fix my hair, and they said that my highlights at Bohemian Rose were not processed correctly. Only four days ago, they posted pictures of my hair from that one appointment 5 years ago on their website, Facebook, and Instagram, making it look like I was just at their salon. They did not even ask for my written or verbal permission to do so. When I called the salon to take my pictures down, they said they get verbal permission and I told them that they never asked me! All stylist and workers wear a mask and they social distance the clients as well as providing barriers and sanitizing the stations between each use. Got my hair done here in October by Jasmine. She did an amazing job covering up the pink semi permanent Arctic Fox dye that was left over from quarantine. Everyone was spaced out nicely and the salon looked very clean. The only downside was the one girl wearing her mask below her nose the whole time. It was a bit more expensive than what I'm used to paying, but the results were definitely worth it. I wish I had come back here again for a cut and color rather than buying a Groupon and going to a different salon this time around. I might end up having to come back to Jasmine to correct the bad highlighting job the other salon did. read more

overpriced for what you get - my highlights were not the shade i wanted and the cut they did was very fast compared to the technique that should be used which is more time consuming but produces a lovely, effortless bouncy shape. i ended up getting a dated "rachel" look instead. also, the environment is a bit like being surrounded by the real housewives of staten island. o was surrounded by women scream-talking in that thick staten island accent about vulgar and borderline gross things that an inside voice should be used for. you do you ladies, but it's exhausting to listen to this for +2 hrs. the hair washer girl/assistant was very nice and made me a tasty tea. hairdresser was nice, but im going to need to adjust my tone which sucks after paying over $300 and as far as the cut, it doesnt feel professional like my last place just falls flat bec it was not properly layered but done in a few minutes. read more

I asked for layers and a V in the back of my hair. Once straightened my hair looked like a 4th grader jagged edged my hair. I have been holding back from writing this review because it really saddens me to give anyone a negative review or to taint someone's perspective about a business but i have to be honest and let you know of my negative experience at Bohemian Rose. Let me start by stating that you get what you pay for and that being said they are pricey but they do great work and this review is not based on a poor experience with my color or cut but rather an interaction with one stylist, Nicole ( owner). I came into the salon for a last Minute appointment to get some corrective color done on my recently, day old colored hair (from a prior salon) that i was unsatisfied with. I was leaving for Italy the next day and was unhappy with how the previous salon colored my hair so i decided to return back to BOhemian Rose. The receptionist was super nice and as i tried to get an appointment with Taryn she advised that she was booked but offered for me to go to Nicole who I was told was one of the owners and equally as good. With out hesitation i took the appointment. I asked the receptionist if i could bring my two year old son, as i didn't have a baby sitter and she said sure to bring him in. Worst mistake i could have made. Upon arriving Nicole gave me some options and a consultation after ripping my hair color and hair health apart. I immediately Felt like crap after listening to her brutal honestly about the work of the prior stylist. I didn't want her to sugar coat but she was some what rude. I continued on with the process and during the whole two hours I was there with my son who was very well behaved for a two year old Nicole made me feel like she was doing me a favor and was not personable at all. She made me feel down right uncomfortable bc of her resting bitch face and made me honestly want to run out of there. She didn't acknowledge my son, which i thought was a little cold being that it's just common courtesy when you see a baby you say something. For the entire two hours she just was so cold and she seemed so miserable. Totally killed the vibe of the entire place. To try and make conversation i asked Nicole if she had children and she said she did and then i have to be honest it made me judge her even more for her poor attitude. Being that she is in fact a mother herself, seeing another mom in a salon with a baby i would have thought she would have been more considerate and in general more friendly knowing what it's like to have to take your baby everywhere because a sitter is not an option. Clearly it's not the ideal environment for a child but they shouldnt willingly tell you to bring your child if they are going to be down right rude and nasty and have a resting bitch Face the entire time. By them Im solely referring to Nicole bc everyone else was nice! I paid and had to run to the atm next store to get cash to tip Nicole and upon walking back in to the salon i just continued to feel uncomfortable and a negative vibe, almost as if Nicole was talking about me because she was talking to her coworkers but then when i walked in had a stunned face and hid in the color area. Needless to say this post is for all the moms out there and just letting you know that this place does do great work but do not bring your kids bc they are not kid friendly. I walked out in tears because of Nicole and it's just upsetting bc they do great work in the neighborhood but her overall demeanor will resist me from returning in the future. I know from experience Brianna is amazing and so is Taryn as many of my friends have went to her in the past. I have some social anxiety issues. It's been pretty bad lately. I needed a real haircut. I walk past this place often when I walk my dog. It seemed fun and sophisticated, not stuffy. I find most salons are stuffy. When I say I want purple hair I mean artificial grape colored not auburn or leaning eggplant. When I say "chop it off, punk rock forever" I mean chop it off. And don't look at me like I don't know what I am doing... I'm not the first chick to rock a blue mohawk. I walked in and asked for a creative stylist who knows the meaning of the term 'punk rock.' The woman at the desk was both enthusiastic and knowledgeable enough to recommend the right stylist for me. She even warned me it would be a bit pricier since Jasmine is a senior stylist. Jasmine was great. Yes it's expensive when you are used to shitty DIY haircuts or Supercuts but It was worth it. She helped me develop a haircut that made me feel like myself again without making me feel awkward or out of place. Even better, those that did notice what she was doing to my head came over to comment on how nifty it was. Thanks for making me feel a little less alien, Jasmine and crew! Sadly, an entire salon's rating is based on their employees. In this case, they can do better. To start, I'd like the say the women who handle the front desk are lovely. The issue is a friend of mine referred me and at least 2 others to Emily. I wasn't too impressed with her as my friend was so never went back as she didn't pay attention to the color I wanted and my hair ended up turning greenish the next day. I didn't want to ruin my friend's relationship with her so I didn't say anything and just went somewhere else (and paid again to have it fixed). Recently, my friend who's been going to her for years forwarded me a conversation of their interaction. In this circumstance, she was changing her color and was quoted 3 different prices and told Emily made a mistake. Ummm. Then she had an appointment scheduled (or was told she did by Emily). When she called to confirm the time bc Emily didn't, the salon didn't have her down but they added her but had no idea what she needed & told her to finalize with Emily. In addition to color she had extensions that needed to be either moved up or come out. This was already weeks passed the time she should've moved them up. (To mention this isn't the first time Emily dropped the ball on extensions). She tells her clients they're fine and can wait another month then acts surprised when the following month the hair is matted. This happened in the past and my friend asked if she was sure they shouldn't move them up then but she insisted she was fine, only to say the following month how she should've come in sooner. My friend is better than me bc I would've told her straight she messed up AGAIN.). Anyway, my friend goes and notices Emily isn't answering her only to find out that Emily blocked her. After going back and forth with a client who has given thousands of dollars and recommendations, Emily tells her she's driving and will finalize everything with her later and explain options. I read the entire convo, it was very light and friendly and they had what seemed a good relationship. Here's the thing: if you don't want to answer a client when you're driving or out getting drunk like you like to do THEN DON'T and wait until a time that's more convenient. Don't be fake, act like you care about helping and then block your client never making and appointment. Client called to find out what she was being charged for at her anticipated next appt and was told a price and she asked if they were sure and were told "Emily said she mischarged last time so yes". AGAIN? Maybe lay off the stuff a bit and you won't make so many mistakes. With this in mind, my friends hair was breaking from the extensions bc she was long over due and Emily is a completely irresponsible stylist. She was able to find a much more competent stylist but unfortunately had to pay to save her hair and they were disgusted that another stylist would act that way (and also read the interaction which they mentioned Emily wasn't even correct in her assessment of her OWN client's hair and desired outcome. Needless to say, there are a bunch of hair salons. If you choose this one then definitely do not choose Emily. The one time I was there she ruined my hair, not to mention she openly talks badly about her customers in front of other customers. This is a major no. But this immature, unprofessional act has now caused her and the salon to not lose one client but rather 3-4 from recommendations and hopefully anyone that reads this review and prefers responsible, professional, and genuine stylists. Came here for the first time on September 1st, 2020. I was looking to get a haircut for some time now. My hair was on the longer side but the ends were dried out. The receptionist was so pleasant and asked me what I was looking to do and then told me all about the different hair stylist they have and their experience( which affects the price of service). I found that this salon was priced well! My appointment was with Jess who was so pleasant and fantastic! She took the time to chat with me before I was shampooed. During the haircut and as she styled my hair she made me feel so comfortable and confident! I walked out of the salon so happy and will definitely be back. I feel bad for writing this review because my hair stylist was really nice, but I am not happy about the outcome of my hair. I was there about a week ago. I just got to washing/styling my own hair today and it just doesn't look good. I don't think my hair was worth the $250 I spent. I had the hopes of getting a balayage done, and I am glad the stylist advised against it due to the condition of my hair. She recommended doing some center pieces to frame my face which I agreed with and trusted her judgement. I know she had good intentions, but right now my hair looks like I dyed it myself and only my bangs have color whereas the rest of highlights seemed to have disappear, making it look really odd. I also asked for a haircut which I am now noticing is pretty choppy and not at all layered in the front like I asked ): I don't mean to offend the stylist, I'm just writing this to warn others that there may be other places where the cost is more reasonable and the outcome might be better. I made a mistake by choosing this place based off their reviews on highlights and balayage. My plan was to go back to my natural hair color which is brown and then later on add natural highlights. Last year I had used box dye to color my hair black but 5 months ago I decided to let my roots grow out so they could match my natural hair color and strip the black off the rest of my hair and then dye it the same color as my roots. During the consultation I was advised to go back to my natural color first and then come back in a month or so for the highlights, that way my hair won't be damaged. I had an appointment with Nicole, senior stylist and co owner, to decolor my hair and make it brown again. I knew that bleaching hair to get rid of the black and then dye it another color wouldn't be easy especially since I have a lot of hair and it's long but that's why I came to this salon and was willing to spend almost $500 just to have brown hair again. They had to dye it twice in order to cover up the red from the bleach. 5 hours later as they're drying my hair I notice that only the top looks brown and the rest of my hair is still black. I was hesitant to say something right away because they had spent 5 hours on this. I went home and realized that my hair was 3 different colors. Dark brown on top and the rest was black with streaks of red in it. I couldn't believe I paid over $350 for my hair to look even worse than before. I called up the salon to say how unhappy I am with it and nicole kindly offered for me to go back and they'll dye it lighter and get rid of the red. So I went in again and spent another 3 hours there. They bleached and dyed my hair again but in the end it looked no different than before. I felt bad that they spent a lot of products and a total of 8 hours on my hair, and they were all sweet and professional but in the end I am very unhappy with how my hair came out. I paid over $400 including tip, for my hair to be brown and instead it is still black with many streaks of red. read more

I really wanted to love this salon, however, after paying almost 500 dollars my hair is not how I wanted it AT ALL. It is nowhere near the color I showed the stylist. I was so upset because it was not easy for me to save this much money for my hair and now I have to pay ANOTHER 500$ somewhere else to get a color correction. I told my friend to come here with me and she got her hair done as well. Her hair ended up looking exactly the same. She showed the hair dresser a picture of how light she wanted it and after $300 spent , her hair looked exactly the same. Now she is unfortunately going to another salon as well to spend more money. It is a very beautiful salon with a very nice class of people. It is just sad that the hairdresser wasn't honest at the beginning and she ended up robbing me of my hard earned money. read more

I can't believe my hair looks they way it does! I came in for a haircut, and Dan did an absolutely magical job on me. He truly paid attention to what I said, paid attention to the texture of my hair (which can be a bit of a nightmare, frankly), and cut carefully, fine tuning as he went along. I ended up with a fresh, current look that feels very flattering. I loved the atmosphere in the salon as well. It was relaxed, and stylish, and the people were genuinely kind and personable (I have never chatted so much).
