The staff were really nice and the place was clean. As for the food, we had a garlic stuffed shrimp with plantains. I had the steak with yucca fries and ripe plantains. My husband had a grilled pork chop with white rice and red beans.. My steak was a little tough and my ripe plantain was hard. This place by far hands-down has the best food. I got the chicken Marcella, yellow rice and red beans and my partner got tilapia with black beans and yellow rice phenomenal I mean I can't say anything, but it is the most delectable delicious yummy yummy in my tummy meal, I actually inhaled it. I ate it so fast I couldn't stop from eating it cause it was so yummy. Anyways, the staff is amazing. I didn't have to wait for anything and even when I finished my meal, she was ready to help me out and the portion was gigantic. Group of 10 went early for dinner on a Sat. Great little restaurant tucked back in a shopping plaza. Mostly Italian pasta dishes on their menu. 2 people ordered chicken francheis, 2 ordered Chicken Parmesan. Eggplant parmasean and I Decided to order their SPECIAL a Ribeye Steak for $22. The dinners were served with a house salad which was really good. Their garlic rolls were excellent. Everyone was completely happy with their italian meals. Although my medium rare steak came out well done. When she sat it in front of me, i knew that was the case because it was a very thin steak. So I cut into it just to see the degree of doneness & Sent it back. Just re-ordered chicken parmesan for dinner. Knowing It is almost impossible for a busy kitchen to cook a very thin steak medium rare. I didn't want a super thin steak anyway. All the food was really good, at great value. called at 11am for 17 lunch specials for my staff and they were able to accommodate. They were so nice! Lunch specials are really affordable. They include rice beans and plantations. The chicken was HUGE and tasted delicious. The pork and steak were okay.. The rice had a lot of flavor and the beans were thick and tasty! There was at least 2 cups of rice in my to go box. There was a ton of food, far too much for me but I'm grateful for the portion and extra lunch tomorrow. Since venturing out to restaurants I decided to try more small mom and pop's spots and small businesses. I had Salt & Pepper Chef in my bookmarks for some time so why not? We were the only guests there all throughout (I liked that) Tables were very spaced out. I would say they are running at 40% capacity. The menu is well varied. They have a lot of Latin staples, such as Mofongo, Lomo Saltado, Mangu, and even some Italian dishes, Chicken Piccata and others. The wait staff was wearing mask and she actually stood 6 feet away from our table when talking our order. She was very helpful as well. We ordered queso frito (I haven't seen this in restaurants a lot) it was delicious. I also ordered a glass of their house Chianti, they serve Italian wine. It was actually quite good. They don't have a wine list by any means, just house varietals. I ordered salmon as recommended by our server, it came with choice of three sides. I got tostones, moro de guandules and salad. Everything was good, the fish was perfectly cooked but it lacked seasoning flavor, I like well seasoned food. I just wish it had some sort of seasoning to it, but with a squirt of lime juice and salt it was perfectly fine. My husband got Mofongo with pork chicharron, he liked it a lot. One thing I didn't care for, but I do get why they do it, is the use of plastic plates and cutlery. It feels a little food court rather than a sit down establishment. That's just me being picky though. The also have, and this is a plus for me, a Pokestop (LOL) yeah, I still play PokémonGo so I was able to eat and play at the same tome. This place is In a strip mall hidden by palm trees. We were initially looking for something else but decided to give Salt & Pepper a try! It was an off time, in between lunch and dinner, but they were very accommodating. The menu isn't any spectacular, but it's hard to say. There aren't any descriptions or pictures, so you have to ask about everything or take a chance. I got the stew beef but they made it seem like it was just the beef, since you got to choose two sides. I didn't know it would come like traditional beef stew. I ordered mashed potatoes and white rice, AND it came with the stew potatoes and carrots. The cubano cheese appetizer was the best part of our entire meal. It was absolutely delicious! Everything else was good, but kind of got forgotten about after one more table came in. So, 3 stars it is! read more

This restaurant has been a few different places with several owners over the years -- and the country (ethnicity) of the owners has changed as well. Although we don't live too far away, we had been there once years and years ago when it was under a different name and it was so loud inside -- music blaring and people shouting -- that we opted not to return. We recently saw some decent reviews on Yelp and decided it was past the time to give it another try. We got there after the lunch rush, but in time to try their very reasonable lunch specials menu. We both were in the mood for steak so opted for their palomilla. It came with two sides. My hubby chose white rice and black beans and I chose a side salad and platanos. Once we had ordered, our drinks came fairly fast along with a basket of four slices of Cuban garlic bread topped with parsley. The palomilla steak is a long thin flat steak. It is not the tenderest cut but can be quite flavorful. It took up half the plate and was a little tough and not that seasoned but the added squeeze of lime and a bit of salt help d along with a bite of the garlic bread. The plantains (3 pieces) were nicely caramelized. The "side" salad as a large bowl of iceberg with sliced tomatoes and cukes. Much larger than expected, this was perfect as I do like iceberg lettuce. I had asked for no onions. And dressing on the side. The bottled French dressing came in its own small ramekin. For the price, under $10, this was a good value. I probably wouldn't go with that particular steak in the future -- either choosing one of the chicken dishes or trying traditional ropa vieja, etc. We shared a caramel flan for dessert. It was the firmer kind served in a pie wedge. Not my favorite -- I prefer the creamier more pudding like variety. Service was pleasant and although we spoke Spanglish, there's a high degree of English spoken, if needed, by the accommodating young staff. read more

I've been here a couple of times and on those occasions have found their Latin foods generously served in large portions, properly prepared and about as authentic as it gets. During my last visit I primarily went for their mofongo as I had heard it to be the best monfongo around. In reviewing the menu, I was delighted to see that their mofongo came not only plain or solo, but also in a variety of 9 different accompanying dishes. My waitress recommended either the monfongo with shrimp, garlic enchiladas or with a skirt steak churrasco which ended up being my pick. When it was served the portion was well presented and huge in size, especially considering it to be priced at a mere $15.95. The skirt came perfectly as ordered, rare, with plenty of lime wedges, a chimichurri sauce, salad, a heap of mofongo, and bowl contained some type of broth like dip or pouring over sauce. The skirt was also nicely trimmed, totally flavorful and the monfongo, though at first seeming a little dry, of perfect balance and flavor; some of the best I've had. Salt & Pepper has a pleasant seating, a good list of daily specials and a wait staff that is pleasant, helpful and friendly. After attempting to go to a restaurant for lunch that ended up being closed and moved (should have checked Yelp!) we yelped near by and ended up at Salt & Pepper Chef. When we first walked in, the place was dead (to be honest it did get a little bit more busy by the time we were done) and the atmosphere was a little cold and unwelcoming. Frankly, I was sitting there already writing a bad review in my head, but the food changed all that for me. The service seemed a little slow to check on us, but once we ordered our food, it definitely came out quickly! The menu lists lots of different Spanish items, from Cuban to Mexican to Puerto Rican, and the board also lists some specials. We weren't offered any explanation of the board (maybe they are cheaper priced lunch specials), so I opted to go with the mofongo with ox tail from the menu. Garlic bread was brought to the table to start, and then seemingly only minutes later our meals arrived. My oxtail stew and mofongo also came with a salad and a chicken broth soup. Needless to say I brought home leftovers. Again, the service was slow getting us the check, but they did happily split it, so I'll give them some extra stars for that. Despite something lacking in the atmosphere and service departments, the food was solid!! Really full of flavor and delicious. We made an impulse decision to come here for lunch on a Friday after our original lunch choice was found to be closed. We arrived around 11:40, and they were very empty, and the staff wasn't really waiting to welcome us...it was a little awkward when we first walked in. We sat down and things got better. I resisted my urge to order a sandwich (they had a skirt steak sub on the menu) and went with the roasted shredded pork. It came with three sides and I chose rice, beans, and plantains. The meal was delicious! The pork was nicely roasted and was a great mix of moist shredded pieces and crispier pieces as well. The plantains were delicious and the rice had great flavor. The black beans were much thinner than I am used to and were more like a soup with some other veggies mingling in there, but they were great with the rice. As our meal went on the restaurant got busier, and it is obvious that the quality of the food draws a few regulars. I was very impressed with my meal. For $7.99 it was easily two servings and I left stuffed. If you don't want the awkwardness we experienced when we first walked in maybe don't come before noon, but I wouldn't hesitate to come back. Based on how well the pork was cooked I would definitely like to try some of the other meats here.
