Had to check out his place after all the hype from The NY Times article that came out claiming the bagels here are superior to New York bagels. I came here on a Monday morning and waited in line (moves fast) and ordered the classic on an everything bagel (toasted) and wow it was absolutely incredible. Seriously some of the best bagels in the Bay- nice and soft with a nice crunch! The classic comes with lox, cream cheese, Tomatoes, onions and capers. The lox is piled on high and super fresh! I love this place but it is pricey! Add ons can easily make your bagel $17+ and just one bagel alone is $3. After hearing all the hype about this place for so long, I finally got to try it today! I came around 11 on a Saturday and the line was actually quite short. Decent but not exceptional. 3.5 stars but I'll round up to a 4 due to safe COVID policies and friendly service. Got here on a Saturday close to noon, so I expected a line and a slimmer pickings. Ordered a whitefish on salt and pepper bagel, cranberry cream cheese on sesame, and my s/o got a daily special with hatch chile cream cheese and tomato and avocado. Bagels are smaller than typical NYC style, which can be understood, and the bagel was not quite as moist either. My salt and pepper bagel was much more salt forward than pepper (which, to be honest, is totally fine). The main reason I give this place 3.5/5 is because it's much more expensive than bagels typically cost and because the cream cheese was quite liquidity and thin. Usually I expect either some fluffiness or some sort of "weight" to the cream cheese. The whitefish salad was pretty solid though. The total of our three bagels also came up to something like $26, which does make it quite expensive. The line wrapped a bit around the corner. It didn't move super super fast--took around 30 minutes for us to place our order. Holy cow this place definitely lives up to its hypes! My hubby and I went on a weekday morning, and we had no trouble finding street parking. There was a short line that moved rather quickly; the lady taking orders outside definitely got her jam down! Hubby got the $15 salmon lox bagel sandwich while I opted for the $7.50 daily special bagel sandwich which came with cucumber slices, hatch chile, tomato, avocado and cream cheese. So Boichik Bagels delivered delicious fresh bagels to my door step way out in Concord this morning. Here are my thoughts: Ordering: super easy. I ordered online and it took me longer to decide what I wanted than it did to actually complete the order. It was easy to find what day delivery to my area was and there was a spot to put special instructions. I indicated it was ok to leave the bagels on my doorstep even if I didn't answer the door. Prices: possibly a little expensive with delivery, but I haven't purchased bagels from a store in a long time and I firmly believe that sometimes you have to pay for the convenience of having someone deliver items to your door. Delivery: when ordering they told me they would arrive between 7am and noon. The morning of I got a text message saying my bagels would arrive between 9:30 and 10:30 and then another text message when they were 10 minutes away. It was fantastic communication. The person who dropped off wore a mask and left them at my door. It was perfect. The bagels: the bagels arrived fresh with a chewy inner texture and just a little crisp outside. I've only been to New York once and their bagels put anything I've had here to shame. So while I do not have enough experience to directly compare these to New York bagels, I can say that they also put anything we have available here to shame. The flavor is fantastic and the bagels were well worth any other extra costs. We bought enough to freeze. I know they will probably lose some of that delicious texture after being frozen, but I imagine they will still be better than bagels I can get elsewhere. When I finish one I feel like I could immediately eat another. Toasted dark (how I prefer them) they have a nice crispy crust and excellent chew. They put on a generous amount of cream cheese but are rather skimpy with their toppings. I expected a few more cucumbers and capers for an extra $1! I work in sales, so they should be receiving wholesale prices on the Kite Hill. Overall, the bagel was good but not $18 good. There was also a line for those ordering on the spot, but not those who pre-ordered. Menus are on stantions when you're almost at the front of hte line and pre-made bagels can be bought, but I already had cream cheese at home -- the whole point of going on this bagel journey in the first place. Got the pump with caraway and salt; the bagels are smaller than we're used to in California, but it's a NYC bagel afterall. Will eat the pumpernickel and rasin swirl tomorrow. The bagel line is in their parking lot. Parking -- They have a parking lot! It's not easy to pull in or out though -- there's only one way in and out + the bagel line gets in the way, so recommend you find street parking unless you're into 3-5 point turns. YAY! There's one street parking spot that was open near the parking entrance. It was super convenient. I've had boichik before and after the NYT article came out and I have to say, their quality is consistent and their taste is still amazing. This time around, I got the classic bagel, which is lox with cream cheese, capers, and red onion and I just love the bite of everything. The fluffiness of the cream cheese paired with the crunch of the red onion and capers all come together because of the chewiness and flavor of the bagel. My favorite is getting the classic on an everything bagel because of the blend of textures and added onion and garlic seasoning. I also got the cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese and it was just the right amount of sweetness. The raisins were just perfectly chewy but also slightly melted, which is something I loved because I was also craving sweet foods to balance the savory of the lox. Especially now, the line is long (even on weekdays!) so be sure to come early or at an "odd time." I'd love to give boichik five stars for their quality, but it's a bit on the pricier side ($15 for the classic lox bagel). As a college student, I'll definitely go with friends but more as a "treat myself" or celebratory breakfast because of the price. read more
