Salt Bagel w/ Chive Cream Cheese

I came close to close on a Sunday! No wait and there was still a good amount of variety available. I was greeted with super friendly staff and was in and out within 5 minutes. Perfect amount of spread, very satisfied with my bagel.

Loved the classic bagel w lox n cream cheese. It was loaded with so much more. I had to save half for later until my mom wanted it. Now I gotta go back.

The service was quick and delicious! I got a choco malt coffee as well as an eggything (egg bagel with everything seasoning) bagel with cream cheese!

I am such a big fan of lox bagels, and Boichik gets it right. Thick slices of salmon, crunchy red onions, juicy tomato slices, and lots of schmear made for a perfect classic sandwich. I work around the area so I frequent here often, and sometimes I can't get a near $20 sandwich all the time, so I just get a bagel with lox spread and add red onions and cucumber and it still is so good. (That runs for less, like $10-12 I think.) Great spot for some solid bagel sandwiches and good spreads, I haven't tried the coffee here but I bet it's just as good. Great people working inside too!

I really wanted to love this place. After all the hype I'd heard, I was excited to finally try the bagels. I ordered The Mensch, and... it was super salty. Like, had-to-stop-halfway salty. The bagel itself was solid, but the sandwich was overwhelming. My partner went with a vegan option, which was better, but still didn't leave much of an impression. That said, the service was great: friendly, quick, and helpful. But it's definitely on the pricey side, and honestly, the quality didn't quite match the cost. I might be back to try a plain bagel or something simpler, but next time I'll lower the expectations a bit.

Got the lox bagel and it was so yummy, only note is that it can be kind of messy but overall so yummy

Boichik Bagels on College Ave near Rockridge has become my go-to spot for real New York-style bagels in the Bay Area. The bagels are exactly what you'd hope for--crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside, and always fresh. I've tried both the plain and everything bagels, and both were excellent. What really stood out for me, though, was the strawberry cream cheese. It's seasonal, so not always available, but if you see it, definitely order it. It's so light and fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness--by far my favorite. I also tried the salmon lox sandwich, and it was just as impressive. The salmon was fresh and paired perfectly with cream cheese, capers, and red onions. Simple but balanced and satisfying. That said, the service wasn't great. There was an older lady taking my order, and honestly, she didn't seem happy to be there. She wasn't rude exactly, but she came across as unfriendly and condescending, like she didn't want to be helping customers. It took away a bit from the overall experience, which was disappointing. The coffee was also a miss. It was very acidic and just not enjoyable at all. Definitely not something I'd order again. Despite the service and the coffee, the quality of the bagels themselves makes this place worth visiting. Boichik nails the classic NY bagel texture and flavor. I'll keep coming back for the bagels--especially when that seasonal strawberry cream cheese is available.

Quite good! Not life-changing, but I thought it was worth the price. I ordered online and good an everything bagel with hatch cream cheese, lox, cucumber, red onion, and avocado. If you think about it, most deli sandwiches are $10-15, and if you count an upgrade with avo, the bagel sandwich was worth the almost-$20 price. I'd order again.

Wow~ This place has the best bagels I have ever had and it does not disappoint. We got the garlic bagel with garlic and herb spread and it's delectably soft and scrumptious

Finally had the chance to stop by here after hearing about it for a few years. By far the best bagel I've had in the Bay Area so far. My girlfriend and I stopped by here for breakfast to eat away our feelings after yesterday's election. We arrived around 9:15 at the College Ave location. The shop itself is a takeout operation. Your order is taken by an employee up front and then you wait outside for your items. For breakfast today, my girlfriend and I both got a garlic bagel, with Hatch Chili Spread, Onions and Cucumbers. We waited about 10 minutes for our food to come out which gave us enough time to go the Peet's across the street to get coffee. There are no tables at this restaurant so it's definitely more of a grab and go situation. We decided to enjoy our bagels back in the comfort of our home. Now , let's talk about what this place is really about - the bagels. The garlic bagel was perfection - the bagel itself was airy but also had the right amount of chew. The exterior was also perfectly crispy which was a nice contrast for the soft interior. The garlic on the bagel had a perfect roast toasty flavor that I thoroughly enjoyed. On top of the bagel being spectacular - the hatch chili spread was delightful. It was creamy and had whipped in texture it worked really well in the overall eating experience. All in all, I definitely get the hype behind Boichik bagels now. Given the quality of the bagels, and the price that they are at, I would highly recommend anyone stopping by here. Next time, I'll surely be getting a few to go.

Ask the Community - Boichik Bagels

Are the bagels boiled before being baked?

Yes. Their website FAQ says so.

How long would it take to order and receive a bagel on a weekday morning? Are there ever long lines to order like on weekends?

The line is much much shorter on weekdays!

NYC cream cheese is robust, like if you get olive cream cheese, there are giant chunks of olive. Anybody know about the CC here?

Hi! The cream cheeses at this place are not as robust as in NYC. The whitefish spread is good as are the bagels. Everything is $$$$ and not as tasty as in NYC. Still, this is California and one can't be too picky. Enjoy!

How long can you keep the bagels for? (1 week?)

Freeze any bagels not eaten that day! You can slice them first, so they can go directly to your toaster.

How early do I need to get in line on a Sunday?

I'm always in the area on Sunday's and would say aim for anytime before 9:00am as early as when they open. Everything should be available and it's early enough that the line won't be ridiculous.

What are there store hours? Are they open now?

Yes, they are open Wed-Sun in the mornings and little into the afternoon. Day ahead ordering is available online for both pickup and delivery in the greater SF area, or brave the line and go to the store for same day pickup (and watch them make… Read more

They had plenty of interesting options to choose from but we were craving for thai curry so went with that. The ambiance was welcoming. The food came out pretty quickly too. However, the quinoa, rice, veggies and tofu were cooked to perfection! I liked the basil addition, it definitely elevated the flavor overall! I wished it came with some hot sauce. I reserved for three to sit in the main dining room. The next day we arrived right on time for our reservation and still had to wait about 10-15 minutes and was asked if we could sit outside and then we were seated upstairs. I was a little bummed we didn't get to sit in the lower dining room like I booked on our reservations. It was still cute upstairs and good company always makes brunch even better. The servers were quick and helpful. I wanted something light so I just ordered the chicken and waffle bites. My husband got French toast and a side of chicken and my friend got a main entrée of a sandwich with some fries and a little soup. All of the food that came out looked amazing even at other people's tables. For brunch, the price is a little pricey, but I would like to come back to try other entrées when I'm more hungry. We asked one of our servers if he had a light as I brought a little candle to celebrate my friend's birthday, and as he lit it, he also decided to join in with us as we sang happy birthday, which I thought was really sweet. He did not have to do. He even got other tables around us to sing happy birthday as well. It felt like a special moment for my friend, which was a nice surprise. We arrived shortly after 10am and our wait was just under 30 minutes. The restaurant is cozy (on the smaller side) but has an interesting layout. There's seating both indoors, outside, and upstairs. You may have to squeeze by a few tables to make your way to the restroom. Customer service was friendly and attentive. Pricing for food & drinks was a bit high. Our total for 2 entrees and 2 drinks was $60 before tip. We ordered two drinks (orange juice and an iced mocha) which were provided promptly. The orange juice was a little too sour and my mom had to add some sugar to improve the taste. The iced mocha was good, not too sweet. One thing to note the wait for our food took much longer than expected, and it may have been due to how busy it was. My mom opted to order the salmon yuzu benedict and I got an egg plate (scrambled eggs) with a side green salad. My mom mentioned the potatoes lacking salt but she enjoyed the salmon benedict. I thought the scrambled eggs were good, but slightly bland & needed salt and pepper. The side green salad was alright, but the vinaigrette had a bitter aftertaste. Overall, the meal was pretty good and timing wasn't the best. I'd likely return for brunch on a non-peak day. Definitely recommend joining the yelp waitlist prior to arriving if you can!
