I tried Boiling Point in Irvine and honestly really liked it. The whole setup is kinda cool. They keep a little flame under your soup the entire time so it stays hot while you eat. It actually makes a big difference and keeps everything tasting fresh. I ordered the Taiwanese spicy hot soup, the beef hot soup, and the milky rose hot soup. The Taiwanese one was definitely spicy, like actually hot, not just a little kick. If you like spice, you will be into it. The beef hot soup was easily my favorite. It was super flavorful, really comforting, and just hit the spot. The milky rose one was interesting. It is more creamy and a little sweet compared to the others. Not my go to, but fun to try if you want something different. Overall, solid spot. Good portions, good flavor, and I would come back for the beef hot soup for sure.

This time around was not the best compared to the other times I've been here. Service was super slow and we weren't being checked up on for water refills or other issues. Hotpot still hit the spot though!

Love bp as always. They got rid of the stamped fish cake thing and replaced it with the pink fish cake :( Also tried the tomato beef rice. It was good and had some spices. Tasted kinda like gyudon. Prefer the scallion rice.

An hour wait on a Thursday at 3:30pm?
Alfred Timothy C.

I'm extremely disappointed with my recent experience at the Irvine location. I brought a friend visiting from New York, and we waited approximately one hour for a table for two at 3:30PM. During that entire time, there appeared to be little to no sense of urgency from staff. Many tables remained unbussed and messy while several employees were standing together talking. When cleaning did occur, it was done slowly and without visible coordination. At one point, we were next in line and staff nearly allowed a party behind us (#7 in line) to be seated ahead of us. If it wasn't for my friend saying anything, that party would have gotten sat before us for some odd reason. The workers also had a snarky attitude towards my friend who was visiting, which I did not appreciate. After waiting so long, especially while it was raining outside, the lack of organization and communication was extremely frustrating. Once we were seated, the service issues continued. The worker taking our order was huffing and puffing. When our food came, it sat behind us on one of the service robots for several minutes while an employee nearby appeared to be on their phone and another was bussing tables. After waiting, I stood up to bring the food to our table myself, at which point a staff member abruptly yelled, "NO, STOP, I WILL DO IT." Do what exactly? Nothing? His tone was unnecessarily aggressive considering the food had already been sitting there unattended for several minutes. Even more concerning was the complete lack of table service. No one came to check on us. No one offered water when we ordered spicy soup. No one asked if we needed anything or if everything was okay. There was zero follow-up after food was dropped. For a restaurant with a long wait and visible staffing gaps, basic hospitality, especially something as simple as offering water or checking in, should not be overlooked. The larger issue was the overall lack of floor management and prioritization. Running hot food should take priority. Clearing tables efficiently during a wait should be a priority. Guest communication should be a priority. Instead, it felt disorganized, inattentive, and dismissive. I enjoy Boiling Point as a brand, which makes this experience so disappointing. This did not feel like an isolated mistake, it felt like a breakdown in service standards and management oversight. I strongly encourage corporate leadership to review staffing, training, and operational flow at this location. Management is beyond terrible at this location, and the staff has no sense of urgency. This experience does not reflect the level of professionalism the brand is known for. I would appreciate follow-up regarding how these issues will be addressed.

I came here on a Thursday night for my sister's birthday, but didn't have the best experience unfortunately. We put ourselves on the waitlist and finally got a text to check in with the host. When entering the restaurant, there was no host in sight and all the staff looked busy and did not want to acknowledge us. I finally got someone after 10 minutes and we were sat. Immediately, I noticed the tables were dirty and there were little bugs hanging around... Nevertheless, we had already waited so long and wanted to celebrate the bday, so we ordered two beef pots with a side of garlic pork. I have been to BP before and this location too, but this time I noticed the sizes have gone down significantly and their bowls have changed. It felt very upsetting because since the sizes went down, there was significantly less broth it could hold and the staff was slow to check up on us to even get more broth. BP usually gives packaged jellos at the end, but I guess they switched to small cups. When it came with my check, all the jello spilled all over the receipt and felt really gross. Overall, I am pretty bummed by my experience and will likely not return

You can't go wrong with boiling point. The food is always consistent and truly satisfying when you're craving hot pot. Sometimes you just want to stay seated rather than having to go get items like at a ayce buffet hot pot places. Whichever spice level you get, they all taste amazing. My go to is #4, the beef. Flaming hot for the spice level. The garlic soy dipping sauce is so good!

Milk Cream Curry
Allison P.

BP never fails. There's a reason why it's everyone's default hot pot spot. Without fail, I always get their Milk Cream Curry pot. It's warm, comforting, and hits the spot every time. They're really not shy with the toppings at this location and will pile it high with tons of meat, fish balls, and veggies. I couldn't even sneak my vermicelli into the pot until mid-meal! My only gripe with BP is the wait. Everyone and their mom loves it and for good reason. Try to get there right when they open or come ready to brave the wait. Pro-tip: You have to stop by during lunch (before 3pm) for a free drink! You get to choose between Jasmine Green Tea and Winter Melon Tea.

#1 House Special Hot Soup
Justin H.

Boiling Point in Irvine never disappoints. I ordered the house special and absolutely loved it. The broth was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced, and every ingredient tasted fresh and well prepared. The portions were generous and super satisfying, especially on a chilly day or when you're craving something comforting. The sauces are a huge highlight too. There are so many great options to customize your bowl, and they really take the meal to the next level. Everything from the spice level to the add ins felt just right. Service was quick and they got our order correct, what else could we ask for right? Great food, great consistency, and a perfect spot for a cozy, delicious meal. I'll definitely be coming back again.

Japanese Miso
Emily H.

Went to Boiling Point for dinner, and it was great. There was a bit of a wait, but the customer service was still good. I ordered the miso hot pot, and it was really delicious. Instead of an employee bringing the pots, a robot delivered them to our table. It's great technology since the pots are hot, and everyone received their food at the same time. I would definitely come back for some good hot pot.

#7 Mushroom Veggie Hot Soup

Just incredible how poor the service is really. The new waitlist system is hard to navigate, having to turn on location services and all. It's a mess at the front of the restaurant before you even sit. We were sat at our table at the same time as 2 others next to us. One server came to take the first table's order, and didn't come back for the rest of us. We had to flag down a server - who happened to be a trainee. Unfortunately, it felt that it might have been this trainees first day? Ordering was slow, and getting their attention any time after ordering was nearly impossible. When our food arrived on the robot carrier, it announced that we had to wait for service (server) to come bring the hot pots to us. No one came for over five minutes, we had to once again go flag down someone to help. 3 of 5 pots on the robot were ours and the other two were for the table next to us. But the servers could not identify whose pots they were and had spent another 5 minutes asking around other tables before figuring it out. The milk green tea we ordered was incredibly watery - no tea flavor at all. The veggies they served today were almost going bad, and the tofu skin had a soggy texture all around. Sadly, my mom who is vegetarian, wasn't able to enjoy her meal. We were also served the wrong tables' food once during the meal. The floor is also pretty slippery so be cautious - probably the type of soap they are using when cleaning. I've been an avid boiling point fan for over a decade but have had bad service in two separate locations in a row. Won't be coming back.

I love Boiling Point! The first Boiling Point I believe was in hacienda/rowland area when I first was introduced to this 20 years ago. Happy that it's since expanded and so many new locations popped up over the years. I love that you order an individual pot and it's big enough to share with my kiddo. I normally get the house special pot mild or no spice to share and I add chili oil into the bean paste and garlic sauce to dip the contents of the pot with white rice. I also love the lamp pot while my hubby and older both get the beef hot pot. Service has gotten better. A couple days ago I saw they now have a robot serving the hot pots and digital name tags. Pretty cool new technology and attentive servers! Ambiance is chill. There was no wait surprisingly Christmas Eve but it was rainy.

#2 Seafood & Tofu Hot Soup
Linda C.

When you enter, you scan the QR code to put your name down on the waitlist and they will text you when your table is ready. This is nice, so you can walk around the shops while you wait. You get your own individual sized hot pot. The food then comes out cooked in a shallow pot over a small flame. Waiters come around and put the fire out if you don't like it too hot. You can ask for refill on broth (free). Tried the Taiwanese spicy and seafood pot. Really hit the spot on a chilly evening. Taiwanese spicy is no joke, your butt may file a complaint the next day.

Food wise, definitely get the porkchop rice plate. It's well cooked, seasoned and a good balance with some rice, noodles, veggies, and protein. I would pass on the braised pork rice. The pictures on the menu and on the displays made it look so appetizing, but what came out was just average and not like the pictures. Definitely fell victim to the in-store advertisements. The pork was okay, small portion, but I think it's fair for price. A lot of rice too. The popcorn chicken was also good, good amount of seasoning, well cooked. Portion size was a decent and good snack while you eat. Teas are also good. The black tea in particular is strong and has an herbal grass jelly taste to it, while the green tea is lighter and more refreshing. Good place to eat for a nice casual meal.

A&J is an Irvine institution!! Can't even remember how much times I've visited in the last ten…read moreyears because it's probably my favorite Taiwanese spot in the area. It's about time I reviewed them! My number one dish goes to the minced pork rice- it's a pretty simple dish, but it's sooo good here for some reason. I've ordered this dish at other Taiwanese restaurants and nothing compares to the one at A&J- the pork is always SO flavorful, never dry and enough to coat all the rice, the egg is perfection, and all the little garnishes compliment the dish so well. It's also just as amazing takeout which I always appreciate. Other go-tos are the spicy beef noodle soup- the beef in it is always so tender and I love getting the thick noodle option because of the rough texture it adds. Beef roll and pan fried dumplings are always a good option for sharing. Have tried a lot of things on their menu and nothing so far has disappointed!

We actually thought we'd need to order several more dishes for our group of four, but by the end of the meal we were completely satisfied. My favorite was definitely the spicy wontons. The wontons themselves were great, but the sauce was flavorful, slightly spicy, and addictive!

I was quickly sat down and brought my own pitcher of cold water. Upon letting them know, staff were quick to kindly explain my options for the meal. This spotlight let me try a signature noodle dish, side, and some of their broth as well. I opted for the oil-poured noodles with beef rib and the cucumber salad. They allowed me to select spice level on both which was nice. I also ordered one of the rock sugar pear beverages. I had actually asked my server for a cup of ice, but when I poured in some of my drink I noticed some debris of something had been on the ice. When I let staff know, they were very quick to address the issue and also brought me another bottle of the drink which I appreciated. The drink itself, by the way, was delicious. It reminded me of Korean pear drinks I've had but a little less sweet. The food also came out quite quickly. The portions of both the cucumber salad and the noodles are very generous. The beef rib isn't one of the back ribs that's mostly cartilage, but rather had a ton of meat. There were parts of it that were a bit difficult to chew, but for the most part it was quite tender. Also, I think if you ask, the staff can cut the rib meat up for you with scissors. The cucumber salad is fantastic at Six Alley. It's not only acidic and refreshing but somehow has a deep savory flavor without being heavy on oil. I was also worried about oil in my noodle dish, since some Chinese noodle dishes can be quite heavy on the oil, which was likely to be the case for "oil poured noodles". In reality, the noodles turned out to have just the right amount of oil and seasoning. The star of the show though really are the titular "biang biang noodles". They are very clearly hand pulled fresh, each having a slightly unique shape, and have a very satisfying chewy texture. The broth, while simple, had an incredibly deep and developed flavor. I'm assuming this is the same broth they use for their clear broth noodles. The food at six alley is great and the service matches it as well, something consistent with how I remember my first visit being as well. I will definitely return to try more of their menu, and am very thankful to Yelp Elite OC and Six Alley for making this happen!

After being fed several videos on IG singing the praises of Yoo's Place, I'll admit I was both…read morehopeful and skeptical of what they showed. The former because everything looked and sounded so good; the latter because it's hard to know whether you can trust what some of these foodie accounts are saying is truthful or paid for. Given how I write Yelp reviews, the irony in saying that doesn't escape me. However, now that I've been here several times, I can happily report that everything those IG accounts said was entirely true! Even though their complex isn't very large (parking is usually easy, but it can be scarce at time), Yoo's Place itself is decently large and always seems to have tables available for groups large or small. Similarly, their menu is rather extensive as well, to the point where it took us a while to figure out what we wanted to try most the first time we came here. Whether it be their appetizers, soups, stews, cold noodles, hot noodles, BBQ meats, stone pot dishes, bossam, broiled fish, galbijjim, and even omurice and Chinese dishes. In short, too many dishes for me to try before finally writing this! -- BANCHAN For the most part, all of these were great! Of the bunch, the fishcakes, kimchi, and radish were my favorites. I also like the kabocha a lot, but they sometimes slather too much mayo/sauce. -- HAEMUL PAJUN - Seafood & Green Onion Pancake As weird as it is to say, this almost came with too many goodies, as it was chock full of seafood and green onions. Definitely a nice problem to have, but I do wish there had been a bit more batter to make this crispier. -- HAEMUL KALGUKSU - Homemade Noodles with Seafood I don't get this often, so I don't know how it compares to others, but this tasted so good! The noodles had such a nice chew to them and I love that they didn't skimp on the seafood. Plus, the portion is large enough where you could easily stretch this into two meals! -- SEOLLEONG TANG - Ox Bone Soup Similar to the Haemul Kalguksu, this was one hearty bowl of soup! The broth was rich and beefy, there were several large chunks of meat, and there was a lot of noodles in this. Plus, I liked that they also included a lot of veggies and strips of eggs, too. -- DAKNALGAE TWIGIM - Deep Fried Chicken Wings Despite falling a bit short of what we hoped for, this was still pretty solid. While the portion initially seemed light (only about eight wings), each piece was HUGE, the batter was crispy, and the chicken itself was juicy. I just wish it had been a little more flavorful. -- LA GALBI & (SUKEO) SOON TOFU COMBO - Marinated Beef Short Rib and Seafood & Beef Soon Tofu Soup The LA Galbi was great - meaty, well marinated, tender, lightly charred, and the portion was sizable for a combo. As for the Soon Tofu, it was terrific! The tofu soup was rich and hearty, had a good mix of beef and seafood, and was just so comforting. -- JAJANG MYUN - Noodles with Black Bean, Pork, Cream Sauce Maybe it's because I haven't had a legit Korean Jajang Myun in ages, but this was pretty good! The noodles were perfect and I love how it came loaded with plenty of pork and onions. The sauce had a bit of an aftertaste to it, but I still liked this. -- KODUNGAE - Broiled Mackerel This was delicious! Compared to the one we had at BCD, this one was deboned better and was just as big, if not bigger. Plus, not only was it still really moist, but the mackerel still had some crispy edges, too. -- KALBIJJIM - Braised Short Ribs While I do wish this had more chili peppers in this (it was really yellow), the taste of this was still awesome. More importantly, there was a fair amount of short ribs, which were so tender and meaty, along with rice noodles, glass noodles, cheese, and vegetables. SO GOOD! -- NAENGMYUN - Sliced Beef & Vegetables over Noodles with Spicy Sauce This was on the house (possibly from ordering the kalbijjim) and, even though it might have been a scaled down version of the dish, this was still so good! The noodles had the perfect chew, there was just a touch of heat, and the overall flavors were amazing! In addition to the food, the service here is fantastic. All of the workers are super friendly and the kitchen gets dishes out very quickly. What's more, the workers will happily refill any banchan dishes and every table comes with a small thermos of beef bone broth that is just so PERFECTLY DELICIOUS! Even when it's hot out, it still hits the spot - it's just so warm and comforting! Honestly, it's one of my favorite things at Yoo's Place! With so many options in Irvine and around the rest of OC, I know there may very well be better places than Yoo's Place, especially when it comes to a specific dish. However, I can't imagine that Yoo's Place isn't among the best of the bunch. At the very least, it's the best I've tried thus far and I wouldn't hesitate to keep coming back even as I try more places in OC!

Right when you walk in there's a lady server who rudely points at you to sit at a table. When you…read moresit down you can smell the lazily cleaned tables and the cups all smell like bleach. (Pretty sure it's just the owner) who was very friendly, but the other staff had a huge attitude, the girl who dropped off our side dishes dug her hands into the dishes to grab two at a time which was super unsanitary. She threw the last side dish on our table while she was walking away too. I wanted to be optimistic about the food even though the staff gave a terrible first impression. We ordered two soups. They were both super bland. My partner and I kept debating whether or not to ask for more salt because of the lack of seasoning in both of our meals. Even the side dishes were lacking flavor and looked like they were sitting out for a long time. The only good thing I have to say about this place is the kind lady (probably owner) of the restaurant. Everything else was a huge let down. I wanted to like the food here because there's a lot of good Korean restaurants in Irvine, and this could've been one of them but sadly it's not worth coming back.
