The food here isn't great. I ordered the beef tendon and the wonton noodle soup today among other items. There was no tendon in the beef TENDON noodle soup. There was barely any sauce and the soup was extremely bland. I repeat. The food here isn't great. It's passable, like something the average teenager can make in high school cooking class. I ordered $80 worth of food, to go. It's to go food, so I didn't tip. No one should have to tip for food pickup. The lady stares at the keypad and once she realizes I didn't tip, in that split second, she pushes off with her right foot and makes off like the wind. You'd think she was doing the 100 meter run and the starter's pistol had just gone off. This place stays in business not bc of good food and certainly not bc of good service, but bc Irvine now is a big city and people have to eat somewhere. I would submit though, that the somewhere shouldn't be here. I won't to going back, and yes, people will continue to enjoy their bad food and their bad service. The beat goes on!! read more

I've seen Tasty Spot Cafe many times, but finally trying it for the first time! I'm so glad we finally ate here. We were starving and came on a Friday evening. Parking was plentiful as this restaurant is located in a shopping center where there's a Korean grocery store, Zion Market. We were seated right away. It's a casual atmosphere with a decent amount of tables. I let the server know that it was our first time there. She was doing her best to be helpful to suggest some popular items. Our dinner started off with the wonton soup ($16.95) We chose not to have noodles with it. I intended to order the pork, but what came out was a combination of pork and shrimp in the wontons. The wontons were a good size and had good flavor. There was nothing else that came with it except the broth. No vegetables. I feel like it was a small amount for the price point. Next up, the minced pork with string beans ($18.95) were brought out. The green beans were delicious and not overcooked and still had a crunch to it. The minced pork was seasoned very nicely and complemented the vegetable well. And for the next dish, this was my favorite of our dinner, the two meat combination of barbecue pork and crispy roasted pork ($26.95). The crispy pork was amazing! The outer skin had a nice crunch to it, and there was a good balance of pork and fat. The barbecue pork was sweet and savory. I think we over ordered one dish too many. That's ok because we had some leftovers to take home. Lastly, we had the house special filet mignon ($27.95). This came with a lot of onions and some traces of green bell pepper. I believe it was Thai basil that was part of this dish, which I really liked! The service was nice and attentive, without being intrusive. That usually doesn't happen too often at these restaurants. I'm surprised Tasty Spot Cafe didn't have better ratings. It recently took over the location where Delicious Corner restaurant was. Every single dish we had was delicious! We had the soy sauce steamed chicken, steamed gai lan (Chinese broccoli) with oyster sauce, shaken beef, salted fish & chicken fried rice, braised tofu with seafood in clay pot, pork chops, and some kind of fish fillet. Also had a few dessert. Shaken beef was amazingly tender. Fried rice was very very good. Love that braised tofu. Steamed chicken and fish fillet were tasty. Oh, and my sister had those chicken feet again, which I was too scared to taste. Ha ha Service was also very good. Formerly known as Delicious Food Corner. When it's good, it's good. When it's bad, well, it's terrible. Overall the restaurant has so much potential to be the classic neighborhood Canto spot. However, there is no consistency. One time I ordered stir fried lobster. I asked the waiter, is the lobster fresh? He said yes, so I placed my order. When the lobster came, I knew immediately that it wasn't fresh. The lobster meat was mushy. I pointed it out to the same waiter and he implied that maybe I don't know what fresh seafood is. Dude... I invited him to taste it himself on the spot. He did and immediately spat it out and agreed with me. I did get a replacement dish. This other time I went for breakfast and got one of those chicken chop sets. The chicken was so not fresh. It had a sour old taste and I sent it back. Experiences like this in close proximity really turned me off. I don't go unless I have no other options in the area. There's also dimsum options to choose from. We had a bigger group, so we were seated in a quiet private room in the corner, which worked out really well. A few dishes were a bit salty, but overall everything was solid. My favorites were the honey walnut shrimp (crispy and not overly drenched in mayo like at other places), and the spicy garlic eggplant. I was kind of surprised at their rating but stand by mine! Been here a handful of times now, with each almost expecting to be somehow disappointed but they've been great! During peak times there will be a bit of wait but once you order food comes out fast. Like within 15 mins of ordering, and they keep coming. Wait staff has always been friendly and accommodating. Though this last time the waitress upsold like crazy; every time we ordered something she suggested adding another dish...so we originally were going to get 5 dishes for a party of 6. We really enjoyed our meals at Tasty Spot Cafe! If you love authentic Hong Kong-style food, this place is definitely worth trying. The Baked Pork Chop Rice was delicious and full of classic HK café flavor. We also really enjoyed the Singapore Vermicelli Noodles and French-Style Filet Mignon. Everything was flavorful and well prepared. Their iced lemon tea was especially authentic and brought back memories of the classic drinks you would get at a Hong Kong café. What made our experience even better was the service. The waitresses were incredibly warm, friendly, and attentive. We ordered some of the same items we used to get, and it tasted the same too, so not sure if there was a management change or just a name change. We came on a Monday night without a reservation for a party of 10 and was seated immediately even though not everyone in our party has arrived. The place is quite large and it wasn't too busy so they didn't mind that we just started ordering some food while we waited. Our server was friendly and I remember seeing her there in the past. The HK iced tea was very strong and flavorful with free refills. Everyone enjoyed the food. We've been coming here for dim sum for years but had never tried their dinner service before. Today's experience was so unique that, for the first time in my life, I felt like I had stepped into Parasite. Upon arrival, the staff were friendly and attentive as usual. However, the waitress who took our order seemed to struggle with English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. She spoke Mandarin with a Cantonese accent, so I switched to Cantonese, but communication was still difficult. She avoided eye contact, seemed distracted, had trouble with her iPad, and wasn't particularly attentive. When I asked whether they had seafood, she simply pointed me to a page with very few options. Oh well--I figured one seafood-free dinner wouldn't hurt. Then came the eye-opening part. A nearby table brought their own bottle of Moutai, and suddenly the service transformed. The waitress appeared with special tea cups that looked noticeably better than everyone else's. Her voice suddenly shifted into a high-pitched, almost anime-style girl voice as she enthusiastically pitched dishes..: "Boss, do you want lobster? Boss, Whole steamed fish?" The sales effort was relentless, even though the customer declined every suggestion. Her high-pitched "Oh my gosh!" voice that felt completely different from how she had been speaking moments earlier. The contrast was so dramatic that my partner still imitates it at home whenever he wants to be funny. Meanwhile, I sat there wondering where all these off-menu recommendations had been hiding. Apparently, the enthusiasm to sell premium dishes depends less on what's available and more on who's sitting at the table. Nothing says "customer service" quite like deciding someone's spending power before they've even ordered. When she made a tiny mistake, her reaction felt oddly theatrical. Rather than calmly fixing the issue, she became excessively apologetic and submissive in a way that felt disproportionate to the situation. It was uncomfortable to watch and came across as performative rather than professional. The restaurant feels geared toward mass-market dining rather than refinement. The portions are generous, which creates a sense of value, especially in expensive Irvine. That said, the ingredients felt average. Some vegetables were overly chewy, and the ribs contained so many small bones that they could easily chip a tooth if you're not careful. Because of the waitress's over-the-top attention toward that table, many diners started watching the scene unfold like free entertainment. Thankfully, the other servers were warm, professional, and equally friendly to everyone. Isn't that the whole point of hospitality--to treat every customer with the same level of respect? As a final touch, their chairs were spaced so far apart that getting out of our corner seat felt like an obstacle course. Our party of 8 went there early on a Sunday morning. I was told I had dinner there but I have no recollection of being there a couple of years ago. So right off the bat you know the ambiance must not be anything special. And it isn't. We were brought there for a Hong Kong style of breakfast. I do not care for the macaroni/ham soup (that I associate with sickness, specifically colds). But I did order milk tea (which I was told would be sweet-I know that) So we did have congee (which I call jook) and the bread that comes with it. I love you tao so I was happy with that choice. There was also French toast, won ton, satay, Choy sum, omelette with spam and other things that I can't recall. Food was okay. Nothing special. This meal hit exactly the way I wanted it to. I was craving beef chow fun and pineapple buns so I ordered delivery and oh my gosh this was the best way to end 2025. The beef chow fun had the perfect smokey charred flavor and there was so much beef. The noodles were chewy and not greasy at all and the veggies were perfectly crisp. I have no notes or critiques. The pineapple bun was also delicious. It was so fluffy with a crispy crust. It wasn't the best I've ever had but it satisfied my craving and I have no problems ordering it again. My husband and ai came here with our 13yo & 10yo boys for dinner after driving down from out of town. We arrived around 730pm on a Thursday night, and the restaurant was about 1/3 occupied. It's a big restaurant with many tables that can be put together to accomodate large groups. The AC was on cold and it's very bright inside unlike some restaurants where the lighting is so dim. We were seated immediately and given the menus. A staff came by right after asking to take drink orders. Then another staff came by to take food orders when we barely flipped through the main menu and 2 side menus. We were asked 3x if we were ready to order before we done looking through the menu. I was taken back and somewhat annoyed as I felt rushed. But we finally look through the main menu and order the following: 1. Beef Chow Fun: More noodles than beef. Smaller noodles used compared to other restaurants that ises larger noodles. Good flavor and not oily. Beef is tender. 2. Roasted Duck (half): Very tender, moist and flavorful, not too salty. Came with a small dish of sweet and sour sauce pair with. I wish the skin was crispier though. 3. HK Style Stir Fried Spare Ribs: This dish came out last and took the longest. It was very delish. The spare ribs were very tender and the taste is sweet and tangy, more on the sweeter side, with lots of pineapple, bell peppers and onions. The ribs were cut up too small so we bit into the bones easily. My 10yo son gave up on eating it as it hurt his teeth. 4. Stir fried string beans: A very good dish with salted minced pork. Need to eat with rice or else will be too salty to eat on own. String beans not crunchy as I would like as it a little soft but I would order this dish again. Food came pretty quick but the last dish took longest. We also could not order rice ahead as they wanted us to order rice once the food came out. The overall service is good as they are quick to take away your dirty plates and refilled water as meeded w/o us asking. We would definitely return in the future to try other items as we came towards end of day so a cod dish we wanted was not available. Came here because other people in my party are familiar with "Delicious Food Corner" in other locations such as Rowland Heights. They're a big fan of it there, but this location? Absolutely trash. There's no rice included in your entrees - extra charge, of course. But how does that many sense for dishes that actually require rice?? Like if you get a curry dish, are you supposed to just drink it? No. Of course not. The roast duck here is the absolute worst duck I've ever had. Devoid of flavor, lacks meat, and just all bones. Clay pot rice - takes forever to come out and super skimpy with toppings. Rice lacked that char/burn on the sides that make it clay pot rice. Braised pork with preserved vegetables - pork wasn't braised for long enough and was tough. This is supposed to be so braised that it melts into your mouth. Noodle dishes - most of these lacked the proper wok hei needed to achieve the flavors. They probably would taste a lot better if I took them home and threw them in a wok, but why would I do such a thing? I was craving Hong Kong Style Chow Mein and tasty spot appeared to be one of the best options for delivery to south OC. While I can't speak on the ambiance or service, the food was exactly what I was looking for; authentic and correctly prepared. The seafood chow mein came with a big pile of fried noodles that were had a bit of excess grease in the container, but were cooked properly. The dish came with a nice blend of seafood and gravy in a separate container and came with a standard serving size. The Yeung Chow Fried rice was well seasoned and had a nice mix of meats. The chinese sausage used in the rice was particularly tasty. We also got the three delicacy combo with duck, and pork two ways. The pork belly skin still had a bit of crispy as was a delicious fatty bite. The roast pork was sweet and tasty and delicious. The duck was a bit bony without too much meat, but was seasoned. Beef Chow Fun was well done with a nice smoky taste. Perfect amount of sauce which is often inconsistent at other restaurants. Rounded off with the red bottle on the table, which tasted like spiced vinegar...? The BBQ duck was much better, fatty, juicy, well seasoned/ marinated. My partner brought me specifically to try their duck and it lived up to his hype. -salted egg yolk custard bao: actually incredible. Three hefty soft buns filled to the brim with salty, sweet, molten egg custard. It was tempting to get more to go but they're kind of steep at $10 for x3. The dim sum in general *is* pricey but they give jumbo sized items, and the shumai and other items at the table next to us looked tasty. Overall it was better than what I was expecting. Got ripped off here the other day. We came to this establishment for a family restaurant dining experience and the place acted as if we were dining somewhere high end. The server sold us overpriced fish without consulting us and left us with an egregiously high bill. The 3.35lb Swimming Tiger Spot fish that was prepared in a simple steam was charged to us for a whomping total of $197.65! How in the world is a fish that expensive when it should be no more than $100 compared to typical pricing in this market? And if it was more why didn't anyone tell us? We are never coming back here. I'd recommend coming here with a group of people, so you can order a lot of different dishes to share. The table has a lazy Susan tabletop, which makes it easy for sharing. Some of my favorite dishes here include: peking duck, lobster noodles and the honey walnut shrimp. Their honey BBQ pork is also very good.
