The collards and rutabagas reminded me of my grandmother's cooking. They had so much flavor and a nice texture (some might say overcooked but I don't like my greens or rutabagas to crunch). My favorite was the sourdough toast with the tomato jam. The toast was excellent and crunchy. But my favorite of all was the tomato jam. Normally that comes with the chicken liver toast (they didn't have the liver today, which is fine with me, I'm not a fan of liver). My grandmother used to make a tomato jam so I was curious to see how this one was. The tomato flavor came through very well, it was sweet and tangy and you could see the pieces of tomato that held its structure. I definitely recommend that and if they canned and sold this by the jar I would definitely buy this (it's not exactly like grandma's - that's a high bar to reach and hers had pieces of lemon and orange peel and cinnamon sticks). But I think this would make a nice addition to the menu as an appetizer (maybe with cream cheese). The service was amazing.
