This place apparently does not exist at this address. The directions took me to a Boba Tea place.

It was so good I had to go back! The Brunch bowl is what I order both times ( I wish I tried something else) and the "grit balls" were delicious. Service was fast and prompt even with a full house. And the woman at the counter (she was in the kitchen and ran food, greeted guests as they pick up their food, possibly a chef) was EXTREMELY nice and outgoing. She seemed to really enjoy her position and kept order in the kitchen. Food was delicious if I haven't already said so, so much flavor, a Carolina quality kinda spot! I highly recommend to anyone looking for an exceptional, yet casual place to dine. Thank you Grit Counter!

The parking lot was packed, and most tables were already taken when we walked in, which is always a good sign. You order at the counter and then grab a seat while they bring the food out to you. The menu is extensive, with plenty of dishes built around grits (as the name suggests). I went with the chicken and waffles, and it was loaded with flavor--crispy fried chicken breasts, a Belgian waffle, chunks of bacon, and a blueberry compote on the side. The whole plate was enormous; I definitely didn't finish it. My husband ordered the fried chicken and fish platter with French fries, and it was equally generous in size. We also started with the grit fritters as an appetizer, and they were fantastic--crispy on the outside and a nice surprise inside. Overall, the food was really on point with big, satisfying portions. The waitstaff seemed super busy but stayed friendly and attentive. The only downside for me was having to bus your own table at the end. Prices for lunch felt a little high at first glance, but when you consider the huge portions, they're pretty reasonable. We'll definitely be heading back soon.

It's a great trendy location on the edge of Park Circle, conveniently has a small parking lot in addition to street parking and a tiny city lot close by, woman owned, and decorated super warm and inviting. So I really really wanted to like this place. Maybe it was the day I chose to go. I used YELP to reserve a spot on the waitlist, and met a friend for brunch before going into Highwater. Maybe they were unusually slammed. I ordered a Buzzed Donut, coffee rubbed bacon, with an over-easy egg on a pop biscuit doughnut with a side of shredded hashbrowns & mocha dip. Sounds amazing and unique! But the one I was served was burnt, hard, and had obviously been sitting under some heat too long and was past the point of being served. I politely brought it to my server's attention both dark coloring, hard texture, and burnt taste were affected, and while she did inquire, the answer was that it was the last one so a re-order was not an option. I was not trying to make a stink to my server or make my friend late to the festival, and they couldn't rush a new item, so I ate around the hard/burnt part politely. When the bill came, the server informed me she took 15 percent off that item. Everyone has off days, and I really wanted to like this place but the more I think about it the crazier it is to think I paid 85 percent of a meal that shouldn't have been served. When I worked in food service, I would have never served an item in this condition. I would have simply apologized that I didn't realize the kitchen was out, taken the item off the bill, and brought a replacement item or dessert at no charge. I had excitedly announced it was my first time trying this place when the server first introduced herself, and I'm just disappointed it wasn't 100 percent wonderful.

The first time we sat outside in their newly renovated outdoor patio, which was so nice and beautiful. Our server greeted us with some sweetened espresso and cinnamon, which was a nice treat. The empanadas here are insane and you must get this. This was probably the best empanada I've had at a restaurant. The second time we returned, we dined inside. The service was a bit slower this time and it took longer for us to get our food. We ordered some of their specialty coffees, which came in these cute mugs and glasses. This time we tried their Arepas de plantano that came with cheese and a mole sauce. This was also very good, especially with the sauce. We ordered the giant huevos rancheros platter to share and it truly did take up almost the entire table lol. They put all the toppings in separate dishes so you could build your own essentially. This was a lot of food and we had plenty leftover. This could've fed 4-5 people! The only disappointing thing about this was that we didn't get any steak as shown on the menu and just chicken. When we mentioned it the server who was very nice but didn't speak much English said she told us but I was completely unaware. Everything still tasted good but we did wish there was some steak along with the chicken. The French toast dish was decadent and sweet, but the bread itself was moist and crispy on the edges. There was a small discrepancy at the end with our bill because the price of the platter didn't match what was on the receipt. They were unable to adjust it but gave us a gift card for the balance. Overall we still had a good time and would definitely come back. It was much more of a unique brunch experience that I've had in Charleston so far.

I was torn between my usual tamales or empanadas but ended up going with the empanadas full of pork wrapped in flaky pastry goodness. I saw they had agua frescas so had to get in on their jamaica // hibiscus flavor. My friend got the tamales and the pork was super juicy. Staff is smiling, friendly, and happy to see you there. It's a good spot to catch up with friends and family without feeling rushed. Great hospitality and we loved the complimentary coffee shot that had a sweetness to it. We will be back to slowly go through that menu! Parking is also a'plenty at the piggly wiggly shopping center.

There were still plenty of baked goods in the display case around 1pm but after a heavy lunch, we wanted something simple but sweet. The chocolate chip cookie was perfect - crispy on the edges, chewy and soft center. And only $1!!! What a steal. They've got local kombucha on tap - we tried the Wake Up Call - which had green tea, Yerba mate & blueberry - super refreshing! We also ordered a pistachio pinwheel but unfortunately, it did not hold up well for the photo (some precious pastry was wasted UGH). But take my word for it, it tasted delicious!
