I have gone to Blackbird a handful of times and have enjoyed the experience each time. Blackbird is primarily a bookstore, but they do have an outdoor window where you can order drinks ranging from matcha (Rocky's Matcha, if you're curious about which brand they use), lattes, and tea. They also carry a good amount of pastries (even mid-day, they have a lot of goodies), which I really appreciated. When you order your drink, you have to enter inside the bookstore to wait for your drink to be called, but you can take the time to stroll around and look at their book selection and trinkets. Heads up: the seating here is limited but very lovely. Inside, there are a couple of community tables, but their outdoor area is absolutely magical, with lush greenery and benches for you to enjoy your drinks. This time around, I got one of their seasonal drinks, a honey lavender vanilla latte, and I paired it with an Earl Grey olive oil loaf. The portion of the pastry was generous and moist, while the icing was not too sweet. Overall, a great pick for a cafe if you're in the area.

I find this a very professional attitude to show concern for other humans. I've been to this bookstore twice in a month and am happy to say I'll be back soon. I said hello and explained that I was looking for help finding a white elephant gift for a coworker. I asked for some suggestions. Her response was, "I don't know your coworker." Seriously? I barely know my coworker either. Needless to say, she was no help at all. I ended up turning around and helping myself since I clearly wasn't going to get any assistance. As I was leaving, she said something like, "I'm sorry if I offended you," without a smile. Great. I went down the street and walked into two other stores, explaining the same white elephant gift dilemma. At both stores, the retail clerk took the time to walk me around their store, offered ideas and suggestions to see what might work. Of course, I ended up buying the gift at one of those stores. Novato Copperfield may want to consider training employees to be more helpful when customers ask unusual questions-but then again are white elephant gift questions in December really so out-of-the-ordinary? Yes, the prices will be higher than Amazon and other online retailers. If something is not in stock, you may have to wait for them to order it, but waiting and supporting a small local business feels worth it to me. Their employees have always been kind and helpful to me over the phone and in person. They have an excellent selection of books packed into their brick-and-mortar storefront, and on the rare occasion they don't have what I'm looking for, they're willing to order it. I've been particularly impressed with their graphic novel selection. I've had consistently good experiences here, at their Napa and Petaluma locations, too, so I've got to give them five out of five stars across the board.
