Bollywood Bistro - gotta love that name! So catchy! This is one of the Indian restaurants that serves the UB North campus community. It's in the Commons. They are open Monday through Friday only. The usual Indian offerings can be bought à la carte. A couple of weeks ago I bought the butter chicken with rice to take home. I wouldn't say it's the best butter chicken I have tried. But then it is really hard to find Indian restaurants. Can that can make this dish perfectly. It's not an easy dish to prepare, and as require many steps from what I hear. And it does contain nuts. Yes surprising. The service was friendly and fast. You can stay inside the bistro (simple but clean) and eat or take your food to the food court area that serves several restaurants in that area. I think it's a great choice for students and people on the run who need healthy food and like the option of having Indian cuisine. I would definitely come back and try something else from them. Maybe the vegetarian dishes like palak paneer or Chana masala.... now I'm getting hungry again! Sorry, no pictures. Eminem told me they'd closed down. In fact he kept tunelessly singing about it, something along the lines of "say goodbye, say goodbye to Bollywood. Say goodbye, say goodbye to Bollywood." Now that I've tried Bollywood Bistro several more times, I have to increase their rating. While I hesitated to give them 5 because the curries are fairly bland (Americanized, watered down), I also have to admit they're much tastier than my 3-star rating (and the average, unfortunately) would suggest. In a city with very little in the way of good Indian cuisine, Bollywood is actually one of the better ones. And it's also by far the best value Indian food in WNY. The portions are probably literally 3 times as large as at most of the competition, and for significantly less money. That sort of generosity deserves a healthy star rating for sure. Also: If you were wondering what sort of person would marry and then mess up Whitney Houston, the obvious answer is that "Bobbywould." In honour of that concept, this place is named Bobbywould Bistro, and Every Little Step you take here is Your Prerogative. If you're thinking of giving it a one or two star rating, Don't Be Cruel. Anyway, if you've been waiting for a decent review of BB, I hope this was a good "New Edition" for you. Now back to the explanation of my 5-star award. They honestly deserve a 4 based on food alone, but they're a family business, with enormous portions, with excellent prices, extremely friendly service (the younger girl, specifically), and the fact they are so woefully underrated and underappreciated in most of these negative reviews and in the star average, mean that they have just about earned that big 5-star rating from me. Now I'll let Eminem take this review away. I have used this place for many years.It has served me pretty well from the owner to the staffs.We can't guarantee that food will be great in each visit because humans do the job and it can vary at times.But most of the time it has never disappointed me.I have ordered food not only for myself or have invited a colleague but also have orderd food in large quantity for our dept orientations, union meetings and many other events.They have done a great job! When I was a student, this was my go-to default food option on campus. I recently found myself back on UB's campus for a meeting and being hungry, I was unsure of where to go. As I stepped forth to see if Bollywood Bistro has changed in any significant way, I noticed the same man behind the counter that I was familiar with. He seemed to recognize me and I felt committed to ordering something at that point. Their most popular option is the buffet option. For $7.99, you get rice, two dishes and a naan. They generally have the same options: for vegetarians they have a cauliflower curry of sorts, kidney beans, lentils, paneer and a chicken makhni for meat eaters. I got the chicken makhni along with the cauliflower and kidney beans. It was a pretty delicious and low-cost dining option. That said, they could improve if they: 1) offered brown rice as an alternative 2) somehow got airtight to-go containers. Their styrofoam containers overflow with curry sauce and then end up spilling if you transport in your car and don't eat it right away. 3) Gave you less rice and more of the good stuff ;). Nonetheless, Bollywood Bistro has been a comforting and psuedo-healthy option for me for many years and when I relived the nostalgia this past week, it did not disappoint. I'm a fan. read more

Had to go here many a times during school at UB but have to say that the food is pretty bad with the exception of paneer/chicken Tikka. Their Chicken Makhni always gave some weird smell and dishes are generally watered down. They have great business solely because of their location and a bunch of international Indian students like me back in the day could eat something they can relate to without having to go off campus. It would be nice if for a change they pay more attention on the quality of the food since I'm pretty sure by now they have made a good fortune! The common consensus amongst all my friends and people I knew was that if these guys could provide even half decent food then they would get even more business so the owners if you come across this please take note :) read more

Amazing food. I've gone a couple times. Had a paneer wrap and have had the combo deal a couple times. Also brought my kids that couldn't take any spice and they said would make a paranta fresh without chili for them which was very sweet. Not sure why low reviews. Perhaps the people that can't take chili it may not be for them as it tends to be on the spicier side but that's what Indian food is known for :) read more

Honestly not bad for a college campus Indian place. The prices are cheap for the heaping portions ($8 for 2 entrees and lots of rice plus naan) The butter chicken is surprisingly good flavorwise, but I request just the sauce with no chicken chunks just because I'm a little picky but they are very accommodating. The pindi chana is good, but is kinda spicy for me. It gives me hiccups haha I got the palak paneer once and the spinach was gritty, so I've never gotten that again. Also, almost all of their curries tastes the same. The guy at the counter is way too rude. He does not know how to treat customers. Please never visit this restaurant. In the name of Indian cuisine, they serve old, smelly food. All the items has essentially same flavor, same curry. I regret every time I visit this place. Extremely Over priced, you can never expect a fresh flavor. It's only surviving due to its location with in university premise. It's a complete rip-off. What a waste of time and money. read more

This place is alright. I have been here a few times. There is the combo, you can pick 2 sides with white rice and a naan. The sides are butter chicken (its okay), turkey meatballs (tastes a bit weird), cholay (chick pea curry), spinach, lentil dal, and other stuff. Then you can order off the menu, they have biryanis, and kababs, lamb biryani, and they have other stuff. I had chicken biryani, the first time it was good. Now I had it last week and it is not biryani, the chef might be new, but that was not biryani, it was chicken curry mixed in rice, and they give plain yogurt?? A lot of it.. I was hungry, so it was okay, but these Indian people can't cook their own food right.. is kinda sad. read more
