    chicken curry

After one too many days of salivating over the smell of my indian friend as she talks about what she has been cooking, when my old mate came into town and agreed to dinner, I may have been feeling a bit inspired. And hungry. We walked in on a Friday night, surprised to find close parking and an empty restaurant. We stood around for a minute before calling out hello, grabbing a menu off the table. It seems to be a place suited for takeout, with the empty buffet repurposed to hold supplies and no music or televisions like many restaurants have to amplify the ambiance. Which was fine by me, because even when a few more people filtered in, we could hear each other talk, which has been an issue at other haunts. A nice waitress let us pick a table and gave us a few minutes to decide, helpfully squelching any concerns I had about my allergies, suggesting that we pair our dishes with a bread. Which I get could be seen as a ploy to get us to spend more, but they're affordable and bigger than I had expected. She dropped off a set of plates and spoons, along with two bottles of water. It caught me off guard, as most people serve cups of water, adding to my theory that this place is only empty because people order to go, and not because the food is lacking. We waited for a bit (it really wasn't that long, just that we were running close on time for an event) until she brought back forks and a steaming array of food. Everything was served to plate yourself, which I thought was pretty neat, tonging my Paneer Tikka onto the plate. We did ask for the bill in advance, to which she readily complied. They have a handheld card reader though they ask for cash tips. Unfortunately we were out of bills and instead tacked it on digitally. She also agreed to bring us takeout boxes and foil as there was no way we were going to be able to snarf it all down and get out on time without either a) burning our mouths, b) missing out on the magnificent flavors or c) getting to enjoy round two later. The paneer tikka appetizer gets you six 1.5" cubes of seared cheese that had a tofu like chew with a pressed creamy interior. Very filling. I probably wouldn't make a habit of it because it is so calorically dense and I could see myself wanting it more often as a vegetarian protein if this place were closer to home, but I fully understand now why my friend kept prompting me to try it. It was accompanied by a slightly slick, extra charred side of onion and green pepper slices that while I wished were slightly less singed, my old mate remarked that they were well done. He himself got the Chicken Curry with rice. The rice was a pillowy soft jasmine, about two cups worth. The chicken to sauce ratio was split evenly, which helped with the slight dryness of the meat. His mild sauce was rich and creamy, beyond fragrant (the truck smelled like leftovers all night) and well seasoned. It was a well rounded classic yellow curry, a fair enough portion that he took half to go for later. We skipped out on the green chutney as we took the Gobi Paratha mostly to go. My old mate said it had too much kick for him, so I got double dibs. I tried one rewarmed and one cold, both scrumptious. Granted I love bread, and the shredded cauliflower filling was seasoned expertly, with a small backnote of what seemed like cilantro, so I'm biased, but if I were to come back for one thing, it'd probably be this. Overall, worth the money, if your tongue is ready to explore an array of spice on an indian adventure.

I've ordered here before and it was okay. Tonight everything was an uncooked, slimy, flavorless mess. My car is COVERED in oil. The vindaloo is literal oil soup filled with no meat and just chunks of spices. The naan is not fully cooked. The lassi is watery milk with foam. And the cheese dessert taste like 7/11 candy. I will never order from here again. It's terrible.

Nice little cozy place in Main St. We were all hungry after arriving in Buffalo, NY. Young lady who took our order was wonderful. She made sure our order came out quick. We ordered aloo paratha, paneer makhani, chicken tikka masala, rice (comes with entrees) raita and 2 mango lassi. Food was ordered at medium spice and was tasty and enough to feed 4 of us. The garlic naan is always the winner. They put abundant amount of garlic to make u want to brush after each bite! Chicken and paneer were in proportionate chunks with enough gravy to enjoy with rice and dip in naan. Aloo paratha came out piping hot! But could have used more seasoning. My only setback to this place is it is not very clean on the inside. I am guessing this is why people mainly had carry outs. .

For all the people visiting Niagara, do yourself a favor and drive to Buffalo. Plenty of options and way better food than Niagara! We tried the garlic naan, chicken vindaloo and Mushroom Malai matar. The curries come with rice. The food took a long time to come and they forgot to bring the rice. We had to wake up and request the missed dish (very slow service). The good food made up for the service. All our meals tasted great. We found out there was only one person doing everything (since it was after hours) and they did apologize for it. Parking isnt easy. Street parking and narrow roads. A bit pricey compared to other places around.

Haven't had Indian food in so long. Found this place on Yelp and had to try it. It is a small place right on main st so street parking. It was pretty busy when we went and they had a lot of takeout orders so our food took a bit to come. We ordered the garlic nan and the chili nan. We really like the garlic one. We also ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and another chicken dish which was a creamier dish. Both were so good esp with the nan. Will come back to try other dishes.

First time trying butter chicken and it did not disappoint! Not only that, i opted for delivery and the food was still hot when it got to me!! It came with a side of white rice and of course I added garlic naan to it. My inly advice is, make sure u add another piece of naan to your order!! I got at least 2-3 meals out of this one dish, because portions are generous!! Cant wait to go back!

If you wanna try Indian buffet near to Niagara Falls ; I strongly recommend this restaurant; not that much choice of items but foods are really good and owners behave very well

Delicious food and friendly staff. I went for the lunch buffet ($11.95 after tax) and it was worth every penny. There were at least three meat-based options, including Tandoori Chicken and plenty of vegetarian choices too! The dessert options, while not as robust did have a tasty fruit custard. The bring out the Naan per request vs. just having it on the buffet so it comes out hot and fresh everytime! Definitely worth your time and money.

This is by far my FAVORITE Indian restaurant in Buffalo. I have been there 3 times at least and found that this place consistently offers exceptional food quality and is true to its spice level (very important to me ;) ) Out of the 7-8 Indian restaurants I have tried,Tandoori hut comes first in offering both satisfying food and service. I can vouch for 'Paneer tikka masala', 'Malai kofta' and 'Paneer makhni', all of which are cheese-based Indian curries that you can modify the spice level of. It goes from mild - medium - spicy and if you are someone who likes spicy food, definitely go with spicy. It is flavorful without being overwhelming. Although I don't eat meat, my friends have told me that even their dishes have been absolutely delightful. This is a great place for vegetarians as it has a plethora of options to choose from. If you like cheese, pick any of the 'Paneer' curries and you won't go wrong. The service staff here is wonderful and by that I mean, they go above and beyond to let you have a great experience. What's more, unlike the other Indian restaurants, buffet here is actually reasonably priced at around $10 (the other restaurants are usually $12 - 15). Although I have seen the Indian buffet food to be sub-par compared to a-la-carte at other Indian restaurants, this place impressed me with the quality of their buffet food too. Overall, I couldn't recommend this place more if you are an Indian food aficionado and are living in Buffalo.

    Lamb Biryani
    Mark D.

Located close to the UB campus is an Indian restaurant called Tandoori Hut. My fiance decided to order a beef biryani and a lamb biryani from there. When they asked us other level of spiciness, I assumed it to be on the scale of what locals find spicy. Being of Indian descent, we chose the spicy option for both. Nope, this was spicier than I expected, but it was soo flavorful! Thanks to the spiciness of this, I ended up drinking a lot of water with each bite, so one biryani lasted me 4 meals. The lamb and the beef biryani were both very flavorful, with good quality meat, properly cut and seasoned meat, and surely one of the best I've had in the Buffalo area, and in line with the offerings in Canada. I haven't tried their other dishes, but I would definitely recommend ordering their biryani.

Tandoori Hut came on my radar thanks to Yelp. I am a fan of Indian cuisine and decided to check it out. Located near the UB South Campus, its nestled right on Main St. Across the street is Queen City Comics and a pizza shop if you're trying to picture the area. The only parking in on the street, we happened to get parking on the side street across from the church next door. Its a small place, a couple of booths, 4 tops and two buffet counters however its not cramped. They dont have bell chims or an alert so we stood in the empty restaurant for a few minutes before someone came out of the back to seat us. The menu is available in the Yelp photos so I had decided what I was going to get before hand. To give a decent chance of a review I tried my usual "go-to", chicken tikka masala since I can compare it to other experiences. We started with an appetizer, Urvish T's review gives a name and probably better description. It was a fried potato patty covered with chickpea curry like sauce and what we could essentially consider pico de gallo. The appetizer (pictured) was good, I would have hoped it be just a tad warmer however over it had great spice. Not in a sense of heat but the earthy, warm flavors of seasonings and spice. The tikka masala was ordered as a medium heat which was perfect, the first thing that I noticed was the sauce was much creamier than other sauces I've had at other places. Similar to a creamy tomato soup but not over powering and too creamy. Along with I had ordered garlic naan, which was good and had just enough of the garlic taste. Overall the food experience was good however between the location/parking and the lack of service it won't be my first go-to. Although friendly besides our food coming out we had very little interaction with the staff and we only saw the one guy. It took some time to get a check even after asking for boxes. It wasn't a terrible experience but not the warmest either.

Order the curries mild unless you really like spicy. Mild is as hot as any other spicy level I've tried in the region.

We enjoyed the restaurant's eclectic music throughout the meal, and it had a cool beer menu as well (with some beers imported directly from India). I liked the fried leaves very much, with the dark brown spicy sauce. Not easy to eat, but tasty. The hot items on the buffet were labeled, but I did not write down the names.
