My mother-in-law lives nearby, so we decided to check out Bollywood Dreams for something different! We came for an early dinner at 5pm, so we were one of the only tables for a while. The food was all great, but we expected the service to be a little more attentive, especially during the time when barely anyone was there. Tables did start getting more full around 6-6:30pm. Our water was empty for a bit and we were done for a while before we could get boxes and the check. The food came out timely from the kitchen though. I recently went to Bollywood with the most wonderful woman in the world, no your wrong She is! Anyway we arrived just before dinner rush so we had our pick of wherever we wanted to sit. Our waitress was very nice and gave us plenty of time to dig through their rather large menu. One thing I appreciated was that while our waitress was attentive, checking in periodically to see if we had decided, she didn't rush us to make a decision. We settled on trying the onion pakoda and the chilly shrimp but there wasn't anything chilly about it. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it but the chilly shrimp was covered in a sort of Indian general Tso sauce, which was delicious. It had a nice kick to it. We discovered that combining the shrimp and fried onion was an excellent pairing. Also I highly recommend trying the mango lassi, such a refreshing way to cap off some heat from the sauce. We ordered butter chicken, chicken Tikka masala, and a side of garlic Naan. I generally don't do carbs so I had Naan of it.... I'm sorry. Any who our food came out in a reasonable time and I wasn't disappointed. It was quite good, the only thing I'd say is that we ordered our dishes with medium spice and there wasn't much spice to it. If you're a fan of spicy food maybe give the high spice level a try and order a mango lassi to help with the heat. But generally the food was good. The only other minor gripes was it was kind of chilly, in the restaurant. Usually the cold doesn't bother me but I was noticing it and my poor girlfriend had to wear extra layers while we ate. Aside from these things it was a nice experience, the food was good, the service was great, and I'd visit again if I were in the area. Check them out if you like Indian food. read more

Food: Terrific food. Flavors are spot on, great quality, and the buffet won't leave you hungry with a lot of great options! Now, the not-so-good: My son has a nut allergy. When we came in to the buffet, we asked one of the waitresses which of the buffet options had nuts. She said she wasn't sure but would ask the other waitress to make sure that we could avoid problem dishes. My son decides not to eat the buffet to make sure he doesn't get sick. Instead, he orders chicken tikka masala from the second waitress to be sure he was safe. Five minutes into his meal he's complaining that he's having trouble breathing. We immediately give him an antihistamine and are perplexed, because he's never had an allergy to this dish (elsewhere) before. When it came time to pay, I tell the second waitress that he didn't eat the buffet and shouldn't be charged for it because he felt sick after eating something that triggered his allergy, so he ended up not really eating anything at all. She said that their chicken tikka masala is made with cashews, and I said that's the nut he's allergic to, and told the first waitress that he had an allergy. "Oh yes. She mentioned he had an allergy but didn't tell me what kind he has." What? If you're a restaurant and someone says they have an allergy, you need to stop immediately and ask the customer what allergy they have, so you don't put someone in the hospital. So we told the first waitress that he had an allergy, she tells the second waitress who comes to take his a-la-carte order of an item that has a nut ingredient, but doesn't stop to inform us of the situation? Unacceptable. Nor did they at least offer to remove his unused buffet charge from the bill. Be very careful around these folks. read more

So I have been craving some Indian food hard in the last few weeks! I had an opportunity to try this place and it did disappoint me! Craving issue solved! We got there pretty early, before the appropriate dinner hour and thusly had our choice of tables. Our server was super sweet and accommodating and let us take our time exploring the extensive menu and gave us time during courses as well! We ordered the cold mango lassi(s) for our drink option with a side of water that very pleasantly did not taste like pool water. I would definitely recommend this beverage if you are opting for full heat in your choices of food! The thick dairy in it will coat your tongue and cool you down. It's a think smoothie like consistency. They do ask your spice tolerance which is very polite and helpful Mild, medium or hot). But to give you a real idea of what this means, I ordered the medium but it was so mildly flavored that I would have considered it mild. My advice, if you can take any amount of heat, order the hot! The lassi will come to your rescue if you regret it! As for me, I love a bit of adventure! For appetizers we tried the onion Pakoda's and the Chili Shrimp, which was adorably spelled incorrectly (appears as chilly on the menu). The onion pakoda's came with two side sauces, a sweet and sour tamarind sauce and a cilantro and chili sauce. Both were good and neither were particularly spicy. We found the onion Pakoda's, which were nice and crispy and seasoned with curry, to be an excellent scooping vehicle for the tasty and well prepared shrimp. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and reminded me of a Indian shrimp version of General Tso's chicken. We ordered Butter chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala for mains, both very delicious but gosh I wish they were hotter! Oh well, I have cayenne at home to fix that. The fresh hot garlic naan bread was an utter delight! I loved using it to wipe up all the lovely sauces! If I had any complaints at all, they would be that it was freezing in there. I kept my winter coat on pretty much the whole time and the bathrooms need some attention to detail to be guest friendly. Overall a lovely experience and I would definitely go back! read more

First, the place is called Bollywood Dreams now. Please fix this Yelp. Also, for a quick note, parking is in the back of the building to let you into the restaurant area. If you park in front, you end up by the party room and may think the place is closed if the door is locked. Now to the review. We went on a Friday night. It wasn't too busy but the food, quality, ambiance and service justify the place being much more packed. The setup is like a normal bar. A big high top bar by the entry with a full array of liquors and tables in the back. Not many tables in the main dining area but a full party room allows for more seating if needed. The service was solid, probably about a 4 star level. Good selection of alcohol and non alcohol drinks. Not a great wine list but we did find a good red blend by Hot to Trot. Best thing was it only cost $26, which is only about double a liquor store price. The rose lasi was ok but the mango lasi was very good (especially if you don't go for over sweetness). The fresh lime soda was also a hit for the family. For appetizers, we had samosa and vegetable pakora. The samosa were flavorful and not greasy or over fried like some places. Same with the pakora. The chutneys they give were solid though the tamarind was a bit thin. The green mint cilantro chutney was one of the best I've ever had. For our meal, we got the chicken tikka masala and the shaahi paneer with garlic naan. The chicken was good. We asked for between mild and medium spice for the kids sake but definitely could have gone spicier. I'd suggest going a bit higher on your spice thoughts with the meal. The sauce was very flavorful and we got a decent amount of chicken (not the biggest but not skimpy either). The shaahi paneer was a huge hit. A good amount of paneer and a very flavorful sauce. The naan was solid. I've had better with true tandoori naans but this is not something that one would complain about either. It is a good accompaniment to the food and pairs well with what we got. All in all, I'd give this place a bit over 4.5 stars, leading to my rounding up to 5. The place is a good bang for buck as we got out for under $100 before tip. Our go-to for great Indian Food in the Farmington Valley! Opened by the same entrepreneurs as the nearby Anpurna Indian store, Bollywood Dreams serves up flavorful Indian food with great options for vegetarians. We often opt for the creamy Navrata Korma. Try is with peshwari naan - the sweetness of the coconut goes great with this silky dish. Despite the more industrial looking front, in back where the parking lot is there is another hidden gem: a beautiful patio with lovely lighting that would be a perfect location for a special night out in the warmers months! This spot is going to merit another visit. The samosa chaat stopped me in my tracks- it was just so good. The samosas still had a little bit of their crunch, the chickpea curry brought a pleasant heat, and all of the fresh ingredients brought a great pop to dish. I was fighting the table for all the red onion bits! The thin sev on top was as fresh and crunchy as I've ever tasted it. This was a hard act to follow. I get that. The rest of the meal was very tasty but I was hoping for more. Vijayawada biryani rice and chicken tasted a bit under-seasoned despite some enjoyable black pepper and citrus notes. I enjoyed the chicken tikka masala with its warm, fragrant spicing yet found personally found it a bit sweet for my taste. Although the naan does not seem to be cooked in a tandoori, it was quite good. I agree with other reviewers that the spice levels seem to run more mild compared to other Indian spots in the Northeast. To be clear, while the entrees may not have wowed me, this is definitely one of the better Indian spots in CT north of New Haven. read more

Same side of the road as the Dollar Tree in Unionville. Delicious aromatic food, great prices, excellent beer and wine selection, big Bar, great service and the owners are super nice. great ambience. They are now open for Buffet, Sundays from 12 to 3 PM. All types of Indian exotic delicious foods to sample and savor. The fragrance of the food alone is enough to get anyone in the MD. This is my new favorite indian restaurant in the valley! The entrance was a little confusing for us to find, but that was the only bad part of this experience. There are booth and table seating. There is also a bar that is not yet set up. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The service from seating to food service was very fast. The food is the best indian food I've had in years, the only better that I recall was that of an Indian mother's home cooking. We had the samosas, mutton khorma, and kebab platter. Everything was flavorful with richness of many spices. I hope they're here to stay as I look forward to many more future visits! read more

This "Bollywood" themed Indian spot was very clean and inviting and sits next to the Farmington River. Nice ambiance, true to the food they represent. The menu was expansive and full of delicious options, thankfully marked with gluten-free, vegetarian, and dairy free options with a little color coded box next to each item. The waiter was attentive, and when asked what his favorite dish was, he gave me an excellent recommendation. My guest and I were cozy in our booth. I got a mango Lassi, it was thick, sweet, and a dash sour. Perfect! The food was delicious... the music was soft and lovely, and tvs over the bar area were featuring Indian movies. The garlic Naan was fragrant, and my friend dipped it in her chicken dish, rich with flavor. I received a fragrant rice dish filled with nuts, spice, and chicken on the bone, and it was all a perfect blend. We took home leftovers, which I ate the following day. It reheated perfectly without any sauce separating. I would definitely recommend this newer spot in Unionville. read more

The in-laws ordered a to-go order from here during one of our more recent visits to their neck of the woods, and we found it to be pretty good. I liked the paneer butter masala I had ordered from here, and the assorted naans we got were pretty good, as was their baby corn manchurian appetizer. So happy to welcome this restaurant to Farmington! I won't argue the somewhat hidden location as it's very close to home. Still, there is a rear entrance in a plaza-like building. The space is oddly large with a large bar area and separate dining area in front. The food was some of the tastiest I've had including the lamb Rogan Josh, Chloe Masala and the sesame and garlic naan. It seems they are still working out the service. We were a larger party and the food came out piecemeal and over a pretty long time. Still, service was especially friendly. This is the best Indian cuisine I have found in the US. Hidden with a back entrance in Unionville, the restaurant is warm with friendly staff and outstanding food. Service is very attentive with suggestions and a wide variety of offerings. We loved the Tandoori Chicken. The Daal Tadka was another hit and the Butter Chicken was excellent. They have vegetarian offerings as would be expected, along with many chicken and lamb options. This was a wonderful dining experience and we all highly recommend it, Enjoy! read more

Recently picked up a takeout order of 4 different entrees. I must say the flavor was very good and the chicken and shrimp were quite tender. My issue was with the serving size. $20 for an entree and 5 or 6 tiny shrimp. Clearly not tiger prawns. It was more of a shrimp soup. Had to use a spoon to find the shrimp. C'mon do better. Shameful. Again the flavor very good. Similar with the chicken. Very small servings but tender and flavorful. They were so concerned we parked in front. They mentioned It over and over. his is my 4th and final visit to this restaurant. The first 3 times that I came for lunch, I ordered Malabar Shrimp Curry and loved it; there was so much food that I was able to take the remaining food home for supper. Today I ordered the same dish and got something entirely different: a huge bowl of pinkish soup with 6 tiny shrimp (I had to hunt for them amid all the "soup") instead of the reddish brown sauce with jumbo shrimp. I called the waiter over and he brought a "new chef" to the table, and both said this was Malabar shrimp curry the way the new chef made it. (All online sources say Malabar shrimp curry is a red sauce.) Needless to say there wasn't anything to take home. This restaurant has recently changed its name, though supposedly it's the same owner; if it's also changed its food, I won't be back! read more

Best Indian food I've ever had. The lamb curry was excellent, along with the cab-bob platter and nan.

The food here is delicious full of flavor! We have been here two times in the past few months and tried a variety of things on the menu! The chickpea samosa app was absolutely our favorite! The combination of cilantro, green onions, diced tomatoes on top reminded me of the toppings on nachos. The chickpeas were combined with samosa pieces and had an incredible flavor. My partner had tandoori chicken and it came to the table on a steaming plate and was full of flavor and spice! The green mint sauce was a delicious compliment. I had shredded chicken and potatoes w spices of Newab. It was full of flavors and spices that were so delicious! I love the rice that is served with it! The garlic Nann is to die for! The portions were all very generous and we always leave w a great amount of leftovers to take home- enough for another meal. We dined at 5 pm so we were the only people in the restaurant however there was a great deal of people ordering take out. The service was great and food was out very quickly to our table. They have recently obtained a liquor license so there are beers on tap and a full bar. The ambiance is simple with yellow tablecloths on four tables at booths and a few other various tables. There are high top tables in the bar area as well. Looks like there could be seating outside on the small deck area in warmer weather. We will be back! read more

Our first time eating here last night was as delicious as expected. I'd read really great reviews and they were all spot on. The four of us LOVED everything we ordered and will definitely be back. Our server was excellent. Spoke to the owner as we were leaving and he was very gracious and kind.
