I've been the "The O Bar" countless times and this visit was enjoying their Friday happy hour. They do put out free wings and usually pizza Stromboli slices, but neither are much better than edible, so we don't bother (Request: PLEASE cook the wings more - they are terribly soggy, & even maybe boiled?). Anyway, we enjoy the lively atmosphere and the simple yet appreciated beer/drink specials. We typically order food off the expansive George's food menu - this time a chicken parm sub. Met up with some girlfriends before I head back home... and we arrived just after Happy Hour... Admittedly, we tortured our waitress with special order espresso martinis and our food order but she took it in stride and was great! Totally enjoyed my Chicken francaise over angel hair pasta... I love that they offered a soup or salad... and that they included the French Onion... for a small upcharge... which I was happy to pay! It was awesome! Might meet my sister there later. I ordered a grinder to go recently here. It was a chicken cutlet grinder. It was a pure slop fest thrown together and looked like whoever made it gave zero care or effort. It was nasty with what looked like they ran out of lettuce since it looked like instead of shredded lettuce there were romaine leafs and other types in there. Saturated with mayo. Just disgusting for $13. Would not go back or recommend. This place is more night life anyways. Pizza I've had here is Greek and really average at best. However in this case with the chicken cutlet grinder it was pure slop on a grinder roll. Should have drove extra 10 mins to Claudia's in Farmington. read more

Moving to Texas. I'm fried. Can't think. Everything that could go wrong and everything you wouldn't believe could go wrong has. I couldn't think of where to go. Staying with my friend who just got a place in Unionville and decided Olive Bar would give me at least a drink. Erica came over and immediately met me on my level which either says great or terrible things about one or both of us. She has been amazing (I'm still here) and is just making what has been an otherwise horrific two days a blessing. George, if you read this, I'll slap you if you don't appreciate her. O-Bar has been amazing forever, and I'm glad one of my last meals in Connecticut is here, tonight. I'm actually happy. Thanks Erica (and I guess the chefs). read more

My boyfriend and I went out for dinner tonight, and wow, we will be back. The drinks? Amazing. The food? amazing. The service was impeccable we had a younger brunette guy, definitely was on the newer side to serving but did amazing, was attentive and kind. The ambiance with the live acoustic was to die for. Every time I am here, it is a great experience! We typically go Sunday ...and Ericka is our bartender/server. She's AMAZING!!!! Makes kick ass drinks, super knowledgable and overall offers great conversation throughout the night. We got spicy margaritas...OMG SO GOOD!!..a tad spicy with a the essense of cucumber...PERFECT! They have a great selection of tequila ...and whiskey. The food is ALWAYS good. I have ordered pizza, it's perfect. I've ordered chicken cutlet... its big for price and I only ordered small... my friend ordered a small antipasto salad....it was huge(dinner size) ...and very fresh. Same with Caesar salad. The Olive Bar is attached to George's, the legendary pizza, and much more, restaurant in Unionville...i can't think of one without the other...Hometown atmosphere even for out-of-towners, more wonderful food than you could possibly eat in one seating and a warm welcome from the owners, always! I came here for a drink with a group of friends last night after an event at Taprock, so I can't speak to the food. We were seated at a 4-top near the bar. It turns out we had a passing recognition with our bartender, Evan, so we chatted with him for a minute and got great service (Evan - join the Yelp Elites! C'mon!). I did not get the names of either waitress who checked on us but they were hilarious and joined right in on our personal jokes. The drink list was decent and it was surprisingly packed for a Wednesday night. I'm not in the area often but the service alone would make the trip worthwhile. read more

How can everyone be a regular? When the Service is on point, the servers have personality and the bartenders don't stop moving, people will frequent. I tend to find a watering hole and stick to it for awhile, usually until my circle is completely tired of it. Olive bar has enough variety from entertainment, food* and beverages to keep us coming back. Once you get to know the staff the adventure becomes more engaging with sarcasm, coaster tag and genuine laughs. Bring your friends or lone wolf it, plenty to keep you busy and relaxed. The Olive Bar has a great food menu and everything is huge. I love the pizza here and I love that you can get multiple different kinds of specialty pizzas on one pie! That's unheard of! I love the seafood pizza, it's sounds a bit weird at first but being from Buffalo, we don't put seafood on our pizza, everrrrr, so I had to get it and it was super good, it's my go to pizza here. Since I was able to get another specialty on the same pizza, I also got chicken finger with jalapeños which was good too but I still prefer the seafood. You can get any pizza white or red sauce. The price difference between the small, med, and larges are so close that it makes sense just to get a large and take the rest home. Reheat it in the air fryer and your set! Their nachos are also phenom, and their pasta dishes look huge but I haven't tried them yet. I love this place! read more

This place is racist as hell. They tried to tell me that my out of state license was a "fake" because it was "too thick"??? I have a very real ID, I'm just from out of state. My white friend had a FL ID up until 2 weeks ago and they'd never been questioned her. As a person of color I felt targeted. I have been over the age of 21 for sometime and I understand you have to do your job. But with no scanner or proof that I had a fake I felt targeted as they tried to deny me service for a real state ID. DONT NOT GO HERE. The drinks suck, bartenders are ugly and the drinks are very overpriced. Not worth the back and forth with the racist bartenders. read more

Adjacent to a nice little Italian joint, It a cute lil' bar that is surely on-point. Great place to grab a drink with a hot date, And if you have time for food, I can tell you it's great. I had never heard of this place, but it's my friend's favorite bar so I gave it a shot. Walked into a small, quaint room with high ceilings and a very welcoming atmosphere. Picked a small table in the back near the fireplace, which was very nice on a night where it was -2 degrees in Connecticut. The draft beer selection was excellent, and I ordered one of my favorites: Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale. They had a wide array of IPAs and Stouts as well as your generic American light beers. We were greeted by a nice waitress who was very attentive the entire night. She kept the drinks coming and was knowledgable about the menu. I ordered a calzone, and it could not have been better. Crispy exterior stuffed with fresh, hot ingredients and delicious marinara sauce. I devoured the entire thing and then couldn't fit any more beer in the tank. The dinner crowd had a nice mix of people, but around 10pm the place turned into a zoo of 21-year olds looking to get lucky. A live band came on around this time as well, and they were OK. This place has whatever you are looking for, from a great place for dinner and good craft beer to a good late-night spot with mingling singles. Nice big parking lot and nice big bar. I stopped by The Olive Bar yesterday to have an early dinner before a performance. I got no dinner. Instead, I ended up sitting at a sparsely populated Olive Bar for over an hour without being served. At least three groups of people around me came, were served, and left. Two servers almost walked into me (one nearly stepped on my shoe) but wouldn't respond when I smiled and said, "Hello." *shrug* Maybe they were just super busy. Maybe there's some sort of secret Happy Hour handshake that I don't know about. To be clear, Olive Bar was, at best, half full when I arrived, yet I may as well have been invisible. At one point, FOUR servers hung out right next to me, laughing and chatting. Not one of them made a move to help me, nor responded to my arm waving and "Hello!'s". When I finally DID get noticed, my (reluctant) server tried to get me a menu and I said (politely, I might add), "No thank you, I'm late, and I don't have time for dinner." She was not amused - put out, even, as if I was wasting HER time. I called the manager from my car and explained what happened. His response to hearing that a customer sat in the middle of his bar for an hour attempting to flag down a server only to be actively ignored by his ENTIRE staff: "That is completely unacceptable. I will be escalating this to the highest level." I have no idea what that means, and don't care to venture a guess. Moreover, The fact that it's "unacceptable" is a given - that's why I bothered to call. Incidentally, the food that everyone around me was eating smelled wonderful. Maybe they were just trying to whet my appetite? Whatever they were up to, I missed a reasonable dinner, and ended up having to snarf down a mess of cold pizza instead. For the record, the boys and I went to a nearly completely packed J. Timothy's after our performance, seated ourselves upstairs, and were served within 5 minutes of taking our seats. Isn't that weird? Olive Bar's idea of making things right was to let me know that they're going to have a chat with their staff. So. There's that. I feel better already. However, while their sorting that out, I'l be spending my money at places that have the time to serve me. read more

I went back and fourth between 3 & 4 stars, but soon you will understand. Do NOT go here at night unless you like not breathing, being crammed into a wall and/or never getting a drink. That being said, I went there the other day with my bestie for lunch. Things we got (shared): Stuffed Artichokes- Very good. NOT stuffed artichokes, stuffed artichoke hearts. Still excellent. Sampler Platter- Ok, so in the sampler platter, we had fried mozz which was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Perfect. Delicious. So amaze. Fried zuchinni which was meh, run of the mill frozen from the bag stuff. Calamari, legs were kind of soggy but rings were cooked perfect and on point & clams casino. Not a fan. Way overcooked. And for a drink we ordered margaritas. I cannot stand an improperly made margarita. Hate it. Good for the O-Bar, they have officially the best margaritas on the face of the planet. The mixer is FRESH and LOCALLY made. Yum! I even went and bought the mixer after the bartender let me take a look at the bottle. It's called Ripe I believe, and maximum beverage carries it :) read more

I think it is pretty interesting to read that Rajmund's (Raymond) review was something I already thought about but just never put it down on paper. This place looks pretty nice, but it is definitely cramped. You will figure that out on certain nights where the place is receiving high business. I use to live out there, so I was quite comfortable with the people who would come here. I have friends from Burlington, Harwinton, Torrington, Simsbury, Avon and Canton, so mingling with the people there was nothing new. I would definitely agree that this is a townie bar. I come here on Friday or Saturday nights to reunite with my old town friends and have some drinks. Nothing too special here for me other than that. read more

They must use baby chickens for their hot wings, honestly I have never seen smaller wings in my life. We also had the stuffed artichoke which was ok but way to much clarified butter. The buffalo wings seemed frozen, as two of them were fried, yet stuck together. The calamari left a lot to be desired. The "special" was salmon, however it was overlooked and over drizzled with balsamic dressing. I have to say, I was disappointed with the food.
