Amazing taste on the butter chicken and the garlic naan was super tasty! When I picked up my food it was quickly and neatly packed and ready to go with no waiting. The only thing i REALLLY REALLLY wish was different is that I got more rice that came with my butter chicken so I can eat the rest of my leftover sauce. Absolutely excited to eat here again. Indian & Pakistani cuisine is often close to my heart. Meany years ago my friends brought to work home home made delicious dishes and instantly I fell in love with the textures, aromas and of course taste. This is my first time with Tandoor in Middletown but based on glamour reviews of their food by Jon R (look him up!) I decided to pick up meal while passing by. I went with traditional lamb biriyani and Pudina naan bread. For starters, their menu is very diverse. Just the bread section alone and consume you for long hours - which a good thing, the more you can try, the more you experience. Delivery was prompt and food well packaged - definitely somebody put care into wrapping naan correctly. For those that don't find joy in Biriyani, it's a rice based dish (often basmati) with meat like lamb, goat, chicken, beef or shrimp (I got the lamb). The aromas and flavors of ghee, nutmeg, cardamom, cinnamon ginger or chilies stand out, with exotic spices like saffron. Often you find vegetables as well like onions and potatoes. Meat cooked perfectly, tender and flavorful. Ordered portion should feed 3-4 people comfortably (as dish is filling) or leave one person leftovers for next 2 days - yay to next day and yet another one :-) Garlic sauce is a nice compliment if you go with the spicy variety (like me). Overall highly recommended! For vegetarians there is also meat free variant. read more

It's been a while since I had takeout from here because this place does not follow instructions. I can't tell if this is under different ownership. My son ordered 2 kheer but only received 1. So disappointed. The Malai Chicken (Korma) was supposed to have raisins and cashews? Were they ground up. Not sure what I was eating . It tasted good but the chicken pieces were big chunks which was strange. I asked for mild again it was hotter than expected. The mixed platter appetizer had good flavor but greasy and the samosas were hard on outside. Top it off my son pays tip for pick up which is ridiculous and the receipt on bag wasn't a receipt. Is that you cant tell if you got charged for something you didn't order? Also what up with no Poori bread. read more

Meal was extremely oily had to use paper towels to take some of it out, portion sizes smaller than before. Overall taste was not great. This was the first time eating Tandoor since it changed ownership, and I must say I was fairly disappointed in the lesser quality of the food. Previously, Tandoor had set very high standards in taste and authenticity-- much like their New Haven counterpart. It was obvious that the new owners either did not get the previous recipes from the purchase, or simply ignored them and came up with their own (which is a huge mistake). We ordered pickup for a scheduled time, also leaving a 20% tip...and when I arrived there was a teenager running the register that didn't seem to have an idea of why my order was not ready. And one other worker sitting at a table doodling on some paper. I sat and waited 10-15 minutes (also, there were no customers dining inside, which I thought was odd--it was XMas Eve though, so I gave that a pass). When we finally brought the food home to eat we were less than impressed with the Aloo Gobi (had so much water and oil), and my wife's Malai Kofta sauce seemed curdled. They stopped offering the traditional onion chutney (was not a choice when ordering online and they subbed it by chopping some onions and mixing the Tamarind chutney into it (which also wasn't sweet--as it should be). The Naan was burnt, and they did not offer Roti (as a dairy free bread option). The Vegetable Samosas were not up to the standard of the previous Tandoor; while quite large they lacked the deep flavors of their predecessors. We did enjoy the Pakoras, however, we had no sauces to put on them because we were not fans of the Tamarind or Onion chutneys they supplied. In my honest opinion, I'd say save your money and get Haveli instead; or maybe go for a longer drive and get the real Tandoor in New Haven, as they are not worthy enough to keep the name. read more

I usually don't post reviews. But we wanted to try a new Indian place instead of our go to being ustav in Wethersfield. We ordered for take out and ordered garlic naan, chicken tiki masala and chicken vindaloo. The chicken vindaloo was so insanely oily it was wild. Legit the whole thing was oil, it was shocking and almost not edible. The naan was just not great and the chicken tiki masala was just fine. Didn't try anything else besides those 3 so maybe other meals or appetizers are better. Or if u go it's better. The vindaloo was the meal that got me to write this but will not be ordering from this place again. The best Indian in the area is ustav. It's a little pricey but worth it when u try and get something a little cheaper and end up with a container filled with oil for almost the same price read more

Throughout the years my son & I loved Tandoors. But the family that took it over 2023 have a cook that makes watery, bland malaa kafta and samosas. Plus, the mango latte is tasteless and not sweet. We've been there twice -- last fall and the winter. Although this new group of entrepreneurs is nice and gracious, their chef sucks. read more

Tandoor stands on the Main Street and Nothing disappointing about this place, we dined in here for dinner. Our orders were indo Chinese noodles, Bhel puri and momos. The portions were good enough to be shared. The bhel puri was light with good balance of flavors. The dipping sauce was delicious to accompany the soft momos (steamed dumplings). The noodles was great too, packed with good amount of veggies. Overall good food! The parking is a little tricky coz it's really busy during the peak hours. read more

Few words I can say of my recent takeout order is delightful and amazing. I ordered the chicken tikka masala, Garlic naan and the Veg samosas. And Everything was lovely. The naan was crispy and the garlic flavor was pronounced and the samosas were very filling. I Talked to the new owners about some of their reviews and they stated that when they took over last year, they had a rough start as they were not aware of some things inlcuding the currys which were boneless before along with the curries being too oily. From the looks and tastes of it, They have fixed some of the issues and I think I will be bringing my family in for dining next time. Careful...the boneless dishes seem to be loaded with bones. Used to be so good but you can tell things are different. Ordered the chicken biryani boneless obviously, came with lots of larger bones and some didn't even have meat on them anymore. No chutneys/sauces came with our meal. Friday night, we expected there to be some type of movement in this place, but we were surprised to be the only patrons here when the only other people signed their bill and left. The place felt that much quieter for a place that could comfortably seat 50, but we didn't mind getting the private service. While we waited for our food to come, we enjoyed the peaceful white noise of serenity emitted from the TVs playing a loop of some wondrous mountain/landscape scenery, a more tranquil version of a travel agency clip. It'd been a while since the last time I had Indian food, so I went for all of the favourites, plus a recommendation from the waiter: Vegetable Samosa, Mango Lassi, Chicken Makahani {Butter Chicken}, and Lamb Rogan Josh. The vegetable samosa was your standard run of the mill delicious fried pyramid of potatoe mush and peas; the mango lassi was a bit thicker than I remembered, but I still enjoyed it; the chicken makahani lacked the spice I like - probably could have used a bit more cardamom, and they used dark meat instead of white...meh; the lamb rogan josh was something new I'd never had before - we were told it would be a bit tangy, but it was none of that except delicious. One word: AMAZING!! We ordered takeout from Tandoor a few days ago and my family is still raving about how good the food was! We were greeted with incredible customer service over the phone as we asked many questions about the menu. We also learned that the restaurant is under new ownership and 100% Halal. We ordered multiple dishes from the Indo-Chinese menu and were absolutely blown away by the incredible taste. Everything was seasoned to perfection and not oily at all! The portion sizes were larger than we expected which was a huge delight! We were savoring every bite as we were engulfed in a world of flavor which was true and authentic to the South Asian taste palette. We also noticed the nice serene ambience of the restaurant itself when we went to go pick up the food; great spot for date night or a meal with the family! The lunch buffet is a wonderful deal, Ten bucks for a nice lil' meal. Nice employees and tasty cuisine, With the sweetest dessert that I ever seen. Tandoor does an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet for less than ten bucks until 3PM. Options include a few kinds of chicken, pork, fried veggies, noodles, various soups, and salad. My favorite part was the dessert, which was made up of donuts in a hot cinnamon glaze that I put over vanilla ice cream. Two words: Taste. Eeeee. I'll definitely come back. This place was dead on the Friday night when we came in for dinner around 8pm. The next night we walked by again and still very empty. I am not sure how they are staying open (lunch time perhaps) but I hope they do. The setting is cozy but nothing too special. The service was quite good with food being brought out in reasonable amounts of time and the wait staff checking in with us frequently to ensure everything was suitable for us. For food, we ordered samosas (great), chicken makahani and rogan josh lamb. The lamb was very tender and we ordered that dish mild which basically means there is nothing spicy about it. The chicken makahani was very rich in flavor and we ordered it medium (you could also order hot and very hot for spicy levels). My partner said it lived up to his expectations in all but spiciness. For me it was just a little bit spicy but for him it was basically not spicy at all. He has a high tolerance and I have a medium tolerance. Overall, decent Indian food in a good spot. The first time I visited, I was rather disappointed. I felt that I needed a lot more than the cheap $10 buffet lunch special and the spacious parking options behind this restaurant, to convince me to return to Tandoor. Their selection included plenty of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, but honestly, my opinion was that I'd much rather pay a little more for better quality food. The curries looked as of they were sitting out for ages. Their fried veggie fritters were soggy from having been passed up by one customer after another. Their tandoori chicken, while smoky, ran a tad dry. I wanted to tell everyone I knew to do themselves a favor and pass on their lunch buffet. However, I had to order from Tandoor for a work event recently, and I will say that their freshly cooked, made-to-order items are LEAGUES BETTER. The difference was night and day. Almost everything I had ever thought about Tandoor was erased. Now, I still wouldn't recommend their in-house dining experience, as I've only done that once. But, if you need to order a catering platter and are craving Indian, Tandoor is a more than reliable option. We went for samosas, a mattar paneer and a chicken tikka masala. All were heavily spiced and pretty darn delicious. Both the mattar paneer and the tikka masala boasted a lusciously thick sauce. The samosas were crispy well after we'd picked them up. Best of all, we requested servings for 15 and the total of all 3 items was around $150, a steal if you ask me! After having had a decent lunch buffet experience here early in the week, I decided to return for lunch to try some menu items. As I entered at 11.30, their opening time, one gentleman was on the phone. He gestured to me that I could sit anywhere. On my first visit, another gentleman came out immediately to pour me water. This time, nothing. I waited. A second person came out of the kitchen and brought items out. I waited. The man on the phone finished his conversation. He then proceeded to just stand there and stare into space. After ten minutes the second man came over to tell me they were still "setting up". I told him I'd like to order from a menu. He asked if I wanted water in the meantime. I answered affirmatively. He then asked if I wanted to have the buffet! "No, I'd like to order off a menu." He now left and went back into the kitchen. No menu. Perhaps he was getting water for me first and then will bring it with the menu. But, alas, he emAerges bringing more dishes out to the buffet area. I thought I had written about Tandoor ages ago, when it made the transition from the blah Taj of India to the new Tandoor, but I missed it and Magda caught it! Like Magda said, Tandoor is much better than Taj was, the interior is a little nicer, the menu a little better and the staff a little nicer - all these little things add up to a much better dining experience. This Tandoor outpost is nice, but I prefer their new haven location - mostly because of the cool old diner building from the 50's, the food is very similar between the two. We haven't yet been to a buffet here but see the setup and want to come back sometime for lunch to see what they offer. All the times we have been here for dinner its has been very good - the whole pods of cardamom cant be a bit of surprise if you arent expecting the overpowering flavor and didnt pick it out of the curry. The vegetarian thali is a good value if you are just looking to sample a few things off the menu (Traditional vegetarian meal with Paneer Makhani, Dal Maharani, Baigan Bhartha, Raita, Rice, Papadam, and Gulab Jamun, soup, Tea, or Coffee ), or if you are a carnivore go for the tandoori dinner (Vegetable Samosa, Chicken Tandoori, Rogan, Josh, Dal Makhani, Rice, Naan, Raita, Papadam, Gulab Jamun, Soup, Tea, or Coffee) .. This is a wonderful Indian Restaurant! The Katchumbar salad is the best: peppers, carrots, tomatoes, red onions, in a delicious dressing. Goat curry is incredible. Not at all greasy. All this despite the fact that I called ahead of time, spoke to the same person and he agreed to accept it. The chicken korma was good, and my boyfriend enjoyed the shrimp vindaloo. Compared to most indian restaurants, the portions were small. The food was good, but not great or particularly exciting. The decor is outdated and a bit grungy in some places (carpet and walls). When the waitress brought our dish of rice, the way she was holding it had her thumb touching the actual rice, which was gross. I'm appreciative that the menu was labeled with gluten free and vegan things, but the chicken soup was labeled vegan, so I'd double check everything regarding special diets. read more

We just had a ton of food delivered and it was all delicious and arrived piping hot. We ordered a bunch of staples- Saag Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, Dal Makhani, Rogan Josh, Tandoori chicken, naan and all the fixings. Everything was stellar and the portions were generous. We're boring (and have a 2 year old!) and asked for everything to be "mild" and it actually was (seems like no big deal but I can't tell you how many times I've requested mild and gotten super spicy from other places). I love Indian food...so much. It is just so flavorful and rich with such a variety of textures and seasonings, I can't begin to describe the different tastes. There is something for everyone. That being said, I was almost overwhelmed by the lunch buffet at Tandoor. For just $10, you are given an array of options, including appetizers, entrees, salad, and dessert. I without a doubt went up for seconds (and tempted thirds)! When the naan is fresh out of the oven, they come around and ask if you'd like some. So delicious. Excellent service. The first of three Indian restaurants I tried shortly after moving here, and, so far, still the best. It had everything I want from a buffet: one or two chicken dishes including tikka masala (if I'm going for meat), veggie korma, at least one paneer dish, samosas and/or pakoras, quality naan, a fine assortment of chutneys (six of them!), basmati rice, and decent dessert (rice pudding at a minimum). And other awesome standbys that I'm forgetting. The saag paneer wasn't overloaded with ghee the way saag paneer sometimes is, and the naan was some of the best I've ever had - large, fresh, chewy, and full of garlic. Waitstaff was nicely attentive. My only quibble was that, if you're going to have rice pudding, you're practically obligated to have gulab jamun alongside it, but I won't call that a minus since maybe that's just me and everything else was so great. Highly recommended based on the buffet alone, and, if it's any indication, dinner must be amazing. Correction: I returned today and they did, in fact, have gulab jamun! I just missed it before because it wasn't in the dessert section, it was in a recessed pot next to the mulligatawny soup. read more

Yummy buffet! I like going to Tandoor for the lunch buffet because it runs daily and I can bring people who can't handle very spicy food. Tandoor has found a way to make very mild Indian food perfectly appetizing. If I want a dish to be spicier, I grab some of their red chili paste (near the veggie bar) and mix a small amount into my curries. This is going to sound weird, but they have French fries on the buffet that are delicious dipped in the saag (spinach). Try it, you'll thank me. Lots of options for the vegetarian and non-vegetarian alike. I've always found the service to be friendly, and the pricing is so reasonable. Those little coupon booklets you get in the mail have coupons for Tandoor (coupons for the buffet, too!) I'll write again when I go in for a la carte. In the meantime, check out Tandoor.
