I have been to this restaurant in Hartford twice and absolutely loved it! Everything I ordered was delicious & the medium spice level was perfect- paneer tikka masala, dal tadka and garlic naan. Our hostess/server was a sweet young girl. We had to go up to the hostess/server station to pay our bill one time. It was nicely decorated inside and there was a large screen tv playing Bollywood movies which was fun! The reason I took a star off is because I ordered delivery from here one time. The dal tadka was so salty it was inedible. I was so disappointed because I absolutely loved the food when eating in the restaurant. I still look forward to returning to eat in the restaurant. I'm honestly shocked at how Spice Venue handled this. I found a dead cockroach in my biryani--something that should NEVER happen in any restaurant. When I contacted them, they said they would give me compensation, but then completely ignored my messages afterward. This is not just bad service, it's dangerous. My family was craving for chats and after from work we just googled for Indian chat near by and found this place and we hooped in. Ordered, stuffed mirchi bajji, tomato soup , gobi Manchurian and pani puri. Only mirchi bajji and gobi Manchurian were good. Didn't like remaining stuff. Pani puri - this is big NO NO , not worth at all. Pani was so salty and kind a different taste. And who will give chole curry for stuffing pani puri. Tomato soup- tasted exactly like malai kofta gravy. Nothing tasted like authentic tomato soup. Stuffed mirchi and gobi were good enough to eat. Service is good so giving 3 star. Ordered my meal through Uber eats and had a great experience overall. The food was packaged very nicely, everything was organized and there was no spills or anything. I ordered Samosas, Andhra Chicken Curry, Lamb Rogan Josh, garlic Nann and a mango lassi. Definitely one of my favorite places I have ordered from it the area. (stick to beer if you happen to be here, hopefully they can't go wrong pouring it from the bottle). So it's been 9 months since the last time I had Spice Venue delivered, and I've got to say, they've really stepped up their game. The chicken tikka masala was absolutely delicious, as well as the chaat I had with some samosa hunks inside it. They included a sweet rice pudding dessert with raisins in it, which was absolutely delicious as well. I got 2 full meals out of everything, I just wish they'd give more slices of the garlic naan with a side of more naan, lol. Definitely a fan of their naan for sure. I am a proud South Indian who moved across the country and has not had her moms cooking in almost two years. Due to COVID, our Thanksgiving plans were thrown out of funk. We didn't have dinner plans on Thanksgiving day, so we decided to check out this South Indian restaurant in Hartford. My mother would be angry if I told her this, but it was every bit as good as my moms cooking. We got the special chicken biryani, lamb curry, and tandoori chicken. The tandoori chicken made a wonderful alternative to the thanksgiving turkey, and the rest of the food was flavorful and delicious. We got our food extra spicy, and they definitely brought the heat. On top of it all, they tossed in a free serving of my absolute favorite, semiya payasam. It was like being in Kerala. Spice Venue delivered to my apartment on the night of Thanksgiving in the middle of COVID. They were able to bring me a small piece of my home, even though I could not physically be home with my family. I cannot thank them enough for this experience. read more

Ok, this is my new favorite Indian food in this area. I've struggled to find good Indian nearby and had a few misses (one of the tomato sauces from another spot nearby looked radioactive in color as the red was so bright and full of preservatives/food coloring - truly awful lol.) Tonight I give this spot 5/5. 1.) Paneer Tikka Masala - the sauce was just delicious, creamy, nicely spiced, large chunks of soft red onion throughout were a pleasant surprise. The paneer was delicious and I didn't miss the chicken I typically get. 2) Chana Masala - really tasty and nicely seasoned vegetarian dish. 3.) Masala Dosa - the filling with potatoes was so delicious. The crepe did not arrive crispy but this was due to being on the road via Uber eats so in the restaurant I'm sure it would be more crispy. I believe it was served with coconut chutney and sambar. I actually ate it alone. Was simple and perfect. 4.) Garlic Naan - huge and good flavor I will be back especially for the paneer dish. I stopped by here this past Thursday night with a coworker. He decided that he wanted to eat at spice venue and so I tagged along not knowing where it was at. On the inside the restaurant consists of two levels with the first level being the dining area and the second level being a bar area with some tables. It all looks really nice and modern and has large TVs both upstairs and downstairs. The downstairs TV had Cricket on while the two TV's I noticed upstairs had the Bad News Bears on and some Indian news. My coworker and I ended up sitting upstairs at the bar. Our bartender up there was a friendly guy but he didn't know too much about the restaurant. Whenever we asked what was on draft (I couldn't see them), he didn't give me much back and on ordering he had to look at the menu to put in the order. Maybe he was new? In the end it didn't really affect my meal here and like I said, he was nice, but I still thought it was worth mentioning. For dinner on this evening I ended up ordering the boneless chicken biryani while my coworker ended up ordering some chicken curry, extra spicy as well as some garlic naan. We had a reasonable wait time before our food was at our table. My meal certainly looked interesting whenever it came to the table as my dish looked like a big pile of both white and orange colored long grained (basmati?) rice and then topped with some crispy things and some herbs. So the chicken was nowhere to be found and I actually had to dig through the rice to find it. Once I did find it I will admit that I was pleased with it as it had a nice spiced flavor and was slightly spicy as well. The outside had a nice and crispy exterior while the inside was moist and juicy. It was definitely something I could have eaten quite a bit of. Unfortunately I don't think that there was much chicken in it and the rice to chicken portions were definitely off. Whenever I had finished all of the chicken I still had 3/4 of the rice left and whenever I was finished with the dish, over half of it was still there. The bottom line for me is that I might stop by here again in the future. Even though I would have preferred more chicken and less rice for my meal, the chicken that I did have was tasty and that is the main reason I would give it another try. read more

Potential. This place has loads of it but already it's food at lunch is quickly moving up Mystal of go to places. The lunch is a sort of buffet that has a lot more dishes than the other nearby place. I've enjoyed the fish but the tikka masala is also quite good too. The music was too loud during one lunch (90s R&B) but it's still working out the kinks. The working south Asian population has certainly found this place judging from the line so that's a good sign too. Overall, I look forward to more. More dishes. Great potential ahead. Best Indian food I have ever had. I don't usually write reviews because it's too time consuming but this really deserves a review. I'm from Philadelphia and in the city of Philadelphia you have so many different cuisines and they all taste good so my standard of food is quite high. With that said, I said the chicken tikki marsala, butter chicken, and bell chicken which all were absolutely phenomenal in flavor and the chicken was super tender, you could tell the ingredients are fresh. The quantity of food provided is also significant! The cashier also gave me this veggie soup extra for free for waiting so long (I ordered at like 10:30pm though) and the soup was also very good. However, the Marsala and butter chicken was quite soupy-- a little more than my preference, but the flavor and tenderness were so phenomenal (and the price) that I am still granting this review 5 stars. read more

Spice Venue is one of the few late-night places to get a full meal in downtown Hartford (at least according to Yelp). With that in mind, I was not expecting an amazing meal at that time of night. After 9 pm, the restaurant has a special late-night/take-out menu with limited options. I will say that the workers were not the friendliest folks. Upon arriving at the counter, the front counter woman pretty much barked that they were only doing take-out orders. Honestly, I did not plan on staying because I had a long trip. I just wanted to grab my food and head back to my hotel. I found the only take-out orders was a little weird because there were two large tables with people still eating. Surely, being a party of one, I would have finished eating my food before the other tables would have finished. During my visit, I did not mind the coldness, but now I see that it was kind of rude. Maybe, I did not recognize the rudeness because I was really hungry, and it was one of the only places still open at that time of night. My chicken biryani was fine. It was a bit on the spicy side, but nothing too crazy. Folks who are sensitive to spicy food may want to ask if the restaurant can reduce some of the spice in the dish. I will say that you cannot beat the price with the amount of food that comes in the dish. I pretty much had enough food for next-day leftovers. read more

First thing first, the establishment is actually pretty huge containing 1st & 2nd floor. It's kept neat and clean. The bar is on the 2nd floor and it has a pretty good collection of liquor and beer. The bar is well lit and their happy hour is ridiculously good. Overall the place has a nice vibe and if you're into indian music you'll absolutely love the playlist. The server was extremely friendly and sweet as well. Now coming to the food, it's what we south asians call soul food. They were well prepared and super delicious. Update: I was so excited to try this place again with my girlfriend who is very particular about indian. I told her you won't be let down... well I was wrong. My paneer mahkani was bland with paneer that was a bit too firm to enjoy. Malai Kofta was not good. WAY too spicy and just wasn't there for me... hopefully...3rd time will be the charm... --------- This was the best Indian food I've had in YEARS in CT. I loved mmumbai spice in Rocky Hill and when they closed I was looking for anything close to their paneer mahkani and their amazing buttery bread. Spice Venue came REALLY close. The Paneer butter masala was INCREDIBLE. I can't wait to get it again. Naan bread was really good.... REALLY good. This will be my new favorite Indian spot. Generous portions of delicious Indian food. Not many places seem to make dosas, so I was excited to order the masala dosa again. It comes with a bunch of sauces and an extremely spicy...something. Good for dipping, but I preferred some of the sauces. Leftover spicy-something did become an amazing sauce for the sautéed shrimp my friend and I made at home, served with fresh white rice. I've been searching for dosas in CT for the past year and finally tried Spice Venue today since it was on our way. I was not impressed by their masala dosa. The filling tasted a bit burnt and the crepe was thick and oily(granted this may be because it was take out and it's hard to keep it fresh). We also tried their andhra chicken curry, which was flavorful and delicious, but not much better than other restaurants that are closer to me. I may give them another try if I lived super close to them, but don't think this would be worth a trip into Hartford just to do that when there are so many options around. read more

Luckily we were able to get a refund for the missing items but still frustrating. The tikka masala was very tasty as were the samosas. I came here by myself not too long ago for a late night dinner. It was a Thursday night and fairly quiet inside this huge place. I chose to head upstairs and sat at the bar where there was a game of cricket on the TV. I asked for something spicy and the vindaloo was recommended. I also ordered a side of naan as well. The vindaloo was a solid meal, a mix of chicken and potatoes. The steady heat was enjoyable and I used the naan to dip into the rest of the sauce in my dish.
