Having lived in Washington near the Canadian border and where there are many people of India, I have had my fair share of authentic Indian food. This was by far some of the best Indian food I have ever eaten. We ordered vegetalbe rolls for our apetizer, which were served with a sweet/muldly spicy brown sauce that was incredible. Similar to a salsa but with Indian spice to it. Mt baby was dipping his fingers in it and eating it plain. My main course was mataal aloo- a potato and pea vegetable curry with a rich yellow sauce. I ordered mild-but as with most Indian food it still had a kick to it. The yogurt sauce ladled on the side helped cut the heat and perfectly complemented the small side of cucumber salad included with each dish. It also came with a heaping pile of rice that might have been basmati (long grain and sweet) and was seasoned with something yellow. It was incredible. My husband ordered chicken coconut curry medium, and permitted me to have a taste. It was sweet, with an after taste of spicy and the sauce had great texture. The chicken was perfectly juicy and delicious, not too chewy or dry. Again we were impressed. Lastly, we both ordered plain naan- a flat bread that is great topped with curry or used to sop up the remains on your plate. It was warm and fluffy, and had a crisp underside, as it should. The restarant was clean and well organized. They even have a nice high chair with buckles and a tray too. Even though there were quite a few people when we arrived and more kept coming through the door, we received our food quickly and the server was incredibly polite. The prices averaged $5 for appetizers, $8 for a meal, $2 for naan. We recieved a reasonable amount of food for the cost, and although it was less food than you might get at sweet basil, it was better in my opinion, and cost less! I've had Indian food up in Bountiful and Salt Lake City, UT, and I've had Indian food back in Washington D.C. and a couple restaurants. I had lamb coconut curry and my fiance had the chicken tikka masala. These dishes were delicious! Their taste was far better than the Indian food I had in D.C., and comparable to the Royal India in Bountiful. Management is super friendly too. The restaurant is small, and the tables and chairs aren't that nice. Customers order their food at the counter, and then it is brought out. If you're expecting a nice, sit down restaurant, then this restaurant isn't exactly what you're looking for. I wish there was some Indian music playing, but there's not. There isn't even American music playing. I also didn't feel like the quantity of food was as much as other Indian restaurants I've been to for the same price. For a big eater like me, that's a definite drawback. But, the quality of the flavor almost makes up for the quantity. read more

Restaurant Review We went to the Indian restaurant called Bombay café on the 21th of January. The restaurant wasn't typically Indian in fact there weren't typical food of Indian culture, we only found chicken items but that doesn't look like an Indian food. And talking about the service, it was poor because they didn't serve the food well and they didn't ask for our feedback. But, the environment was good; decoration of the restaurant was fine. Talking about the food cost, it was very high especially for the taxes. For instance just four people decided to eat, three chicken curry and one chicken butter, and the cost was about 55.75$. In the end, our trip was funny because we have been together and we enjoyed the food and we also enjoyed this little experience. Moreover about the food we expected that was more typical and the service more efficient. In general we don't suggest people to go there, because the food was acceptable but not real Indian food. read more

It is interesting to me that all the negative reviews come from people from around southern India, who clearly have a bone to pick with the Pakistani owners. A little historical research will show that these may be rather biased opinions, founded on old grudges. Why not let the food stand on its own merits? Meanwhile, the rest of us can simply enjoy this delicious food. I just had some lamb coconut curry, with a decent spice level. It was a little smoky, with creamy undertones. The lamb was tender and savory. Moreover the manager, Atif, was very nice to me. He treats me rather like a brother, so I wonder if others mistake his candor for disrespect. As for me, I've gone back repeatedly since they opened, and I love to bring my friends. I would advise people, however, that this is NOT fast food. This can take about 15-20 minutes to put together; and the culinary payoff is worth it. Just plan ahead. read more

Cedar City is very fortunate to have The Bombay Cafe. Not only does it provide an alternative to the typical food choices in town (Mexican, American, some Italian, and that's about it), but the Indian food is authentic and quality! I've been a fan of Indian curry for quite some time, but of all the places I've eaten at in California, Utah, and Nevada, Bombay has the best vindaloo, tikka masala, and korma of them all. Their ingredients are fresh and you can tell that the meals are prepared with care and a mind for taste and satisfaction. Not only that, but the owners and staff are amazingly friendly. I have yet to come in and not be greeted warmly like an old friend. You cab absolutely tell that the Bombay Cafe is full of people who love what they do and are committed to bringing a unique and delicious culinary experience to this small Southern Utah town. I had the curry chicken, with appetizers vegetable roll and flat bread. Curry chicken came first, not much on the plate, very little portions. The taste of the curry chicken was just ok. I have had much better. A few minutes latter the appetizers arrived, two very little rolls that looked just like Chinese egg rolls. I explained appetizers are served prior to the entree. The look I got was one of I don't understand. The flat bread was the only good that came from the meal. As for the service it was again just ok. Prior to my arrival there were no other customers in the place, so it wasn't like it was busy. Food service time seemed long and rushed for some reason. Also the prices seemed very high for what was served, I probably should of gone to Walmart and had frozen Indian dinner there would of been much more food. read more

This is a great example of North Indian food. People who give a poor review of the food claiming it not to be Indian have never tried the different regional options. Much like Texmex and Mexican have a similar origin, they are also different. I have lived in several places with high concentrations of Indian people, from Sacramento, CA to Bradford, England, and I can say with confidence that this is the best Northern Indian cuisine I have had. A real surprise for a little city in Southern Utah. I am not a lamb fan, but the way these guys make it means it is a internal debate on whether I should get it every time I eat here. I do think the flatbread is over priced, but that is my only complaint. Every dish I have had was great. Please note that this is not fast food. When you walk into this place, you're sure to wonder a little bit about how good it could possibly be. They don't bother with much in the way of décor. In a lot of ways, it reminds me of a restaurant near where I grew up that we called Manny's Place. (It was called El Taco and after so many of times of having to explain there was no "D" in the name, we gave up and named it for the owner.) Like Manny's, the Bombay Café is not much to look at, but you'd be hard pressed to find better ethnic cooking in this small town. Was Manny's authentic Mexican and this place authentic East Indian? I have no idea and I don't care. I hate to break it to you, but pizza isn't really Italian anymore either. =P India is a big place and at a guess, I'd say it's authentic to somewhere in there. read more

Finally a place in Cedar City that isn't pizza or Mexican food. My wife and I went tonight, and it was a great experience. The food was absolutely delicious. I had chicken tikka masala, and my wife had chicken vindaloo. Unbelievable flavors! The portions are a little small, but a dish like that is all about savoring the flavor. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Akhtev (I think that's his name. Pakistani names are not my specialty) moved his family of four kids to Cedar City and brought some amazing food with him. His wife cooks, and they could not be more friendly. He told me that he thinks he has the best food in America; he may be right. Bombay Cafe is a must-go for anyone looking to branch out of their food rut a little. You will not be disappointed. read more

I'm sooooo happy this restaurant came to Cedar! Indian food is my absolute favorite and sometimes it's not worth it to make at home. The menu has many popular dishes and they will adjust the level of spice according to your taste (we asked for something between medium and hot and it was perfect!) the service was very friendly and the food completely hit the spot! It costs the same, if not less than most places you'd go for lunch, but you get more flavor for your dollar. The only thing that needs work is the ambiance and decor, but as they've only been open a couple of weeks I'll forgive them. Support Bombay Cafe! Maybe we'll start getting more diverse dining experiences here in Cedar. It's definitely my new go-to! read more

Cafe Bombay in Cedar City is a very good place to eat for that small town. The food is plentiful and delicious. A friend and I tried the egg rolls, garlic and plain naan bread, coconut chicken curry, tikka masala chicken, and mango lasi. I hardly need add it was far too much food for two people to finish but every bite was so good we still made a sizable dent in it. The prices were very reasonable especially for this type of cuisine and the proprietor is very personable. I have had Indian food many times so I was very impressed that we had so much quality food for about half of what we would have paid elsewhere. You should definitely eat here if you are in Cedar or visiting. read more

NO!!!!! I can hardly believe that Bombay Cafe is now in 2 locations. I moved down to Mesa Arizona a few months ago and I've traveled all over Mesa, Phoenix, Gilbert, Peoria, Tempe, each city has quite a few Indian restaurants but NONE, let me repeat, NONE come close to the Bombay Cafe in St. George and Cedar City. I was lucky to travel back up to St. George and Cedar City last week to see my new Niece, I had to stop by my favorite Indian Restaurant! Ate there again, last night, and my meal was just as amazing as the first! This time I ordered the Butter Chicken and Chicken Coconut Curry, to share with a friend, and they were both delicious. My friend had never eaten Indian food before and loved it as much as I did. I ordered it mild, this time, since my friend doesn't do spicy. Also, my 14 year old and her friend went there for lunch, last week, and they both raved about their food, too. Chicken Curry, and Chicken Tikka Masala. I can't wait to try more from the menu. The Bombay cafe is one of the best places in town! I first discovered it about a year ago and it is probably one of the best meals I have had in Cedar City! I also get the Chicken Vindaloo because I am not too crazy about curry.. but let me tell you it is SOO GOOD!! You order a side of garlic naan bread and you've got the best lunch of your life! I always have extra at the end that I eat for dinner.. so it's like two meals in one! This is most-definitely the best restaurant I've ever been too. Not only is the food out of this world, but the service is also always a delight. The art decor on the walls give off such an amazing atmosphere, and it truly makes you feel like you're welcome there. I've now had every meal on the menu, and each one is always better than the last. And that's saying something, considering how literally everything is out of this world delicious! Love this place so delicious! I get the veggie curry and the chicken coconut curry and both are exceptional! The only thing I wish was that I could add spinach into my curry. But alas I cannot. But I figure if that's the only problem with this place then it deserves 5 stars ! The owner is extremely now and friendly. The place is clean and has bathrooms. Indian food at its finest. Good prices for great tastes. Naan texture is great, the masalams and vindaloos are so good. The staff was super super nice and even gave us some free food. Discount if you present an SUU ID, I'm grateful for that. Things they could improve: appearance and theme of tables, chair, kitchenware and decorations could use reworking to be presented professionally. Foods wise, it was great. This is my favorite restaurant in Cedar City, hands down. The atmosphere is... a bit lacking, but the owner is extremely friendly. And the food is amazing. I've been going there for years and the food is consistently great. Everyone I've ever taken there has loved it and almost everyone always cleans their plate. It's pricey for a college student budget, but really it's no more expensive than a night out at Chili's or Applebee's. Highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys food with a bit of kick. read more
