Street taco's, crunchy taco, side of rice and beans
    Tina C.

Really good, authentic Mexican food in Cedar City! Look no further. Plus they have an amazing salsa bar. Lots to choose from on the menu. I got a variety of street tacos, a crunchy taco along with a side of rice and beans. SOOOO GOOD! Service was excellent, food came up fast even though there was a line. It is now my go-to Mexican place, so glad it's here.

On one of our last evenings in Cedar City we stopped at Tacos el Jefe after a long day at Bryce Canyon. Our appetites were satisfied. Great local place for tacos and Mexican. Many choices and combos to choose from. I got 2 sopes, one with chorizo and one with lengua. Both were delicious. The sopes were crispy and filled with toppings. The lengua very tender and seasoned well. The chorizo had a nice kick of flavor. They were good size and 2 was enough. Rest of family had chimichangas. They were huge and fried up perfectly. They were stuffed with meat and had a nice amount of guacamole and sour cream. Definitely get your money worth on these. There is a salsa bar with some different salsa to try and some pickled veggies. Nice touch. The green salsa was excellent. We really enjoyed Tacos el Jefe. If we are in Cedar City again we will definitely stop by for some good Mexican food.

    Al pastor taco. Not good.

Still love the service and food. Had the bacon breakfast burrito and it was great. Tried the Al pastor taco. We don't recommend. It was dry & not very flavorful. But we'll still be back as everything else we've tried is delicious.

After a long day of snowboarding, we were in the mood for something filling and flavorful. They have lots of options, and on the weekends they offer al pastor! I got the al pastor fries, and my partner got mini tacos with lengua, adobada, and carnitas. My friends got carnitas plate, menudo, and more. Our order should show you how much variety they have. You order at the desk and they give you a buzzer once your meal is ready. I love that all the sauces, grilled peppers, and grilled onions were self serve so you could try everything if you want. Everyone loved the grilled onions, and those grilled peppers are definitely spicy. The al pastor fries had so much meat and toppings. I was so grateful it wasn't just fries and cheese. The meat was tender and packed with flavor. The carnitas tacos were the best out of the lengua, carnitas, and adobada. The menudo was pretty gamey if you like that taste. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I loved how colorful it was in here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was pleasantly surprised by the food quality and would come again.

This place serves up some of the freshest, most authentic Mexican grub I've had in southern Utah. We ordered a mix of their street tacos (the carne asada and al pastor are absolute standouts--juicy, perfectly seasoned, and topped with fresh cilantro, onions, and a squeeze of lime) along with their homemade horchata and a side of beans. We also enjoyed one of their daily specials, with a staff-recommended chia-lime and strawberry fresca, and everything was amazing. Everything was made to order, bursting with flavor, and surprisingly affordable for the quality. The staff was super friendly and quick, even during the dinner rush, and the casual vibe with outdoor seating made it perfect for unwinding with the kids. No frills, just great food that feels like a taste of home. If you're in Cedar City for skiing, hiking, or just passing through, do yourself a favor and stop here. We'll definitely be back--five stars all the way!

Friendly staff and plenty of tables to choose from in the 6pm hour of a June Saturday night. We…read moresat at a worn table in the back section and figured out what we wanted to order. I chose the Enchiladas Tricolor which was a good opportunity to try their mole, red and verde sauces on chicken, cheese & pork respectively. Comes with beans, rice & interestingly ... coleslaw. My husband chose the Burrito Asada but didn't want any pico de gallo. The waitress asked if he wanted the guacamole and the red sauce on the side to which he said "Sure". I think he's lucky the red sauce was on the side as he could only describe it as "weird, very strange, not good." I tried it and thought "thin vegetable soup ". The kitchen forgot to put the melted cheese on top so his burrito in the picture is very plain looking. He added the guacamole along with the beans and rice to each bite of the burrito and thought that added some flavor to it. The asada was just bland beef with no evidence of a marinade or spicing. My Tricolor Enchiladas plate had 3 enchiladas, beans, rice & coleslaw- & only half of those 6 items were tasty. I was intrigued by the coleslaw and liked it so I ate it all first. I ended up taking sone from my husband's plate to cleanse my palette after I finished eating my meal. It helped clear out the weird pork gravy taste that was the sole flavor of the chile verde. It was so different from other chile verdes I've eaten before. This one had no citrus notes that would normally come from having tomatillos in it. The pork did not improve my outlook. After my first bite I cut the enchilada open to see if the pork was fully cooked. It was pinkish but seemed cooked. It just had that partially raw pork flavor to it. The other 2 enchiladas were good (chicken with a slightly sweet mole sauce and the Classic Red with cheese). I think that same veggie tasting red sauce my husband encountered is their "Classic Red" sauce. The sour cream dollop on this enchilada kinda overtook the sauce so I didn't mind it - didn't miss tasting that sauce here. Sadly the last 2 components on my plate - beans & rice were really lacking. The beans seemed a bit salty but had little flavor despite that. The rice appeared to have no seasoning in it - very bland. Mixing the two together didn't improve either. Adding one of the 2 tasty salsas (red or green) that came to the table with the just slightly greasy chips did help the rice. I noticed a pool of oil/ grease accumulating behind the enchiladas (see picture). Not a good sign for flavor to me. The waitress said the restaurant has been around for 22 years and the booth we sat in showed it. My side of the booth seemed to raise me higher than normal above the table while my husband's side seated him at the proper height to the tabletop. My husband said his Strawberry Margarita was good and thought he could taste the tequila. I had a sip and wasn't sure if it was tequila or the triple sec in the background but thought it was a decent strawberry margarita as it was not overly sweet. I noticed the price on the menu $8.99 was not the price we were charged ($9.99) for his "house margarita ". All other pricing on our receipt matched the menu. Also on our receipt there was a Card Total and a lower Cash Total. We had already planned to pay cash. There's too many other Mexican restaurants in Cedar City to ever go back to La Casa DM.
