My neighbors are friendly, management - Vonny and her team are amazing and the location is prime real estate - close to everything including the beach. The property is quiet which is ideal for adult/retiree living. Amenities include a beautiful pool (although always cold), BBQ grill, laundry room, a great room with games, ping pong table, exercise equipment, weights, sofa and chairs for lounging. The complex is well-kept and managed - Vonny does an excellent job. The Al and the maintenance team are attentive and provide a speedy response and repair to any maintenance and/or repairs. I would highly recommend Emerald West to adults/couples/retirees if it meets your needs, a place of peace and good energy. I will miss being here!

However, communication about maintenance schedules and water shutoffs could have been more consistent. We usually didn't get emails nor texts which would have been more appreciated. She does yearly inspections too. We loved that we had an online portal for payments. The apartment itself was a good sized one bedroom. We had our own heater which was inside the walk in closet. We had one parking spot for us with more storage in the parking spot. Downside of this apartment is that they are not double paned windows so dust and noise are inevitable. You hear everything. Walls are very thin. We were on the first floor and we could hear everything. There are two rooms of laundry and uses Bluetooth for payment which was amazing. However, only a few work. I believe the residents have reported it several times but no action was done. The residents of the complex were mostly couples and single residents. Only a few people had families. With that said, I think this apartment complex is more appropriate for couples and singles who are looking for a more quiet and intimate space. I wouldn't say this place is family friendly.

The whole place is gated, and my bike is not visible to anyone outside the complex, so it must mean that someone in the complex stole it. They cut my lock off and took my bike. The landlady doesn't care because she just puts signs saying she is not responsible and won't put up security cameras. She said whatever happens is your responsibility. I have lived in about 10 apartments in my lifetime and I have NEVER experienced anything like this before. My bike wasn't even worth that much so it really shows what type of low life people live here that would just steal their neighbors bike to sell. And having the landlady onsite living here is worthless since she won't do anything. This place is the most insecure place I've ever lived. Also, it's winter now and the windows are so thin, you can hear all the traffic and fire trucks pass every night. And the temperature in the apartment is just as cold as the temperature outside because there is zero insulation. This is the worst place I've ever lived and cost too much for the location. The laundry card machine is constantly broken so you can't do your laundry unless you put $100+ in your card assuming you want to live at this dump for that long because you won't get that money back if you don't use it all.

Even with not living there for 3 months, they still go above and beyond. My mail order pharmacy sent my medication to my previous address there and would not resend it. I contacted Nadia and let her know the situation, she was extremely attentive and was able to track it down and secure it for me until I was able to get it picked up. I really appreciate all the help that we endured in our time as residents there and will continue to recommend those looking for a great apartment in a great location of the south bay, to them. I HIGHLY recommend you take into consideration the comments on property management (aside from Kelli - she is relatively new and does try to help this goat rope of a company She is extempt from this review). While the "area" may be decent, the apartments are poorly and cheaply put together. Paint splatters everywhere, cheap appliances, no AC, huge gaps underneath the island connecting to the floor, garage storages are disgusting, and that's just a few examples. This isn't even the biggest and most disturbing issue. I say again - It's property management! One person in particular = NADIA! Nadia is only responsive when it benefits her. Otherwise, you will not hear from her. She contacted me three times for my renters insurance despite this already being sent to her via text twive AND then the 3rd time threatened to charge me for not having it on file. What's mind boggling is if what I provided wasn't sufficient documentation there should've been communication. Not one time! She even said thanks when it was provided. I digress. She rides around on her golf cart to walk her dog, leaves work early to pick up her daughter & doesn't return (I can't even begin to tell you how many times I tried to catch her in the office - never there!), and doesn't even communicate to her co-workers about the issues on this property. Kelli had no idea I was moving out. Nadia knew the day I moved out, when I followed back up and randomly stopped by because of the lack of response, and NOW I've asked about my Security Deposit twice with absolutely no response. However, a couple of drawbacks are the absence of charging points in the apartment's garage, which prevents me from charging my electric vehicle, and the lack of dumbbells in the gym area. These were clearly communicated by Marylou during the site visit. However, it would be greatly appreciated if these amenities could be added in the future. Its part of one of the best school district in LA and a family friendly neighborhood. The manager on site, Karra, is the best and I couldn't recommend living here more. She is very helpful and always willing to work with you. My husband and I moved out before our lease ended because we bought a house and she helped us get our apartment leased as soon as possible so we wouldn't be stuck paying the apartment and a mortgage. We keep building "luxury" apartments where even a small studio is priced far beyond what most working people can realistically afford. And in this case, they're located in a pretty unusual spot--literally above a gas station, in Lomita of all places. Luxury apartments absolutely have their place, but this doesn't seem like it. Think about it: how many vacancies does Kaia South Bay have right now? It takes a very specific type of renter to pay premium prices for an apartment in the middle of Lomita. Most people with that kind of budget would probably choose a high-rise in Downtown Los Angeles, Long Beach, or somewhere with ocean views and more amenities. The reality is that we need housing people can actually afford--not more developments marketed as luxury while sitting far outside the reach of the average resident. And honestly, I hope this project fails miserably. Not because I want anyone to lose money, but because I'm tired of seeing developers treat every new housing project as an opportunity to chase luxury rents instead of addressing the actual housing needs of the community. If these units sit vacant, maybe it will send a message that people are looking for affordability, not overpriced apartments built for a tiny slice of the market.
