I've been looking for a new barber here in NYC since...well...I moved here, really. I went to a few good places in Brooklyn, but nothing that made me want to return. This place, however, is the first place I've ever been that I knew I would return to. Even though the commute from Brooklyn is a little longer than desired, the haircut I received today was well worth it. Originally, I booked online with Avi, as his reviews were stellar. When I arrived, however, I was welcomed by Vin who ended up cutting my hair. I loved chatting with Vin and the cut was fantastic! He offered me a free, two-week clean up to help increase time between haircuts. All in all, Bonefade' is definitely a place you should check out if you're looking for a great customer service and an even better cut. I am definitely going to recommend this place and Vin to all of my friends who need a barber! read more

$100 haircut and shape up ... just so they can mess up his hairline !! ALEX if you do not know how to do a shape up THEN DO NOT DO IT. my son looks so defeated this is his senior year !!! And now he is walking into his first day of school with a mess up shape up. What a waste of money. Unprofessional and they are lucky It was husband that walked in with my son and not me. Edit: I added pictures just to show how disgusting shape up was done to my son. And sideburns are SHAVED OFF!!! I called the owner and not ONLY did he have the nerve to defend this hack job stating that he has faith his barber knows how to do a shape up and offer a comp haircut . I also included a picture of my son with a regular shape up . DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. This has devastated my son. He is entering his senior year and this was done poorly. The owner has two Frenchies that he lets roam outside the shop with no leashes, at the busy intersection of 7th and A. I witnessed one of the frenchies run up to a dog that was not friendly. But worse, the dogs could run in the street and get killed by a car. When I confronted the guy in the shop how irresponsible it is to let them run off leash on a busy Manhattan street - he just looked at me with a blank stare like he was drunk / on drugs. Nobody should support a business that would put dogs in danger like this. They are prob using the dogs to draw in customers. I will be reporting them. read more

Everyone was super nice, but man I am sooo depressed about the results. I came in with pictures of exactly what I wanted. I wanted to shave my long beard into thick crazy mutton chops. I showed the pictures, I was told by the barber that they "got it". I said "I can keep the picture open for reference", "no need, I get it" I kept the pictures open anyway, I kept referring to the pictures. Then he started trimming my sideburns, I said "don't trim those", "I'm just cleaning them up" I was told, "I want them thick" I said. Then I see he is getting ready to go shorter "don't go too short please" not even a 5 seconds later he shaves them down to stubble. He robbed me of facial hair. i had been looking forward to this look for months, I am absolutely devastated. Immediately I told him "I said I didn't want that". He starts blaming the picture. I had showed him several pictures, he pick out one of the pictures as not being clear. The mutton chops were impossible to miss. I can't believe I prepaid $80 for this. when I was leaving they tried to charge me another $10, for a scissor cut. I appologized and said there's no way I can pay that, he missed the key element of what I came here for, the owner acknowledged my grief and quickly dropped the $10 up charge. I am so overwhelmingly bummed about this whole situation, I feel like they stole my hair and my money. It's such an incredible disappointment for me, because I like this spot so very much, the people and the vibe are great, and I basically live above them. I use to consider it a neighborhood institution. But I don't see how I could ever trust them to cut my hair again. This is so much more than an oversight, or a miscommunication. This just feels like arrogance. I feel bad leaving a bad review, because I genuinely liked my barber, and I know he knows he screwed up. Disappointing Experience at BoneFade Barbershop As a resident of the Lower East Side, I've been on the hunt for a reliable barbershop ever since my go-to spot closed after the pandemic. I used to go to a shop on Ave C and 3rd Street. After stumbling upon BoneFade while wandering around Tompkins, I thought I'd give it a shot until I found the right fit. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a decision I regretted. Firstly, the cleanliness of the shop left much to be desired. It was evident that proper cleaning protocols were not being followed. The lack of hygiene was alarming - from dirty floors to tools that looked like they hadn't been cleaned in ages. The strong odors lingering in the air only added to the discomfort, likely due to the neglect of basic cleaning tasks like mopping and sweeping. Moreover, the interactions with the barbers and owners were far from welcoming. It became clear that they were selective about their clientele, only showing warmth towards those they knew or favored. This selectiveness made it apparent that they prioritized certain customers over others, which is unacceptable in any professional setting. The pricing structure was another issue altogether. While I understand that the cost of living is rising, the abnormal prices at BoneFade were unjustifiable. Not only were the prices inconsistent and unbalanced with the market rates, but there were also hidden charges and fees that weren't disclosed upfront. It felt like they were trying to squeeze every last penny out of unsuspecting customers, which is deceptive and unfair. The first time I visited this place, I got a cut with Mark which was decent The second time I got a cut with Avi(since Mark seemed to be on vacation); the cut was beyond terrible. At this point I'm really thinking all of these reviews are either from close friends, paid, or from fake accounts. How are the cuts at this place worth $60? Don't get me wrong, I been getting many cuts in LA for WAY over that price, but these guys absolutely suck. The clippers, razors, and everything seems very old. Andy gave me the worst haircut I've ever had.. I have pretty simple hair, combover on top, 2 on the sides. A 2 on the sides turned into a zero. A light half inch trim on top turned into 2 inches off. Also, on top, instead of blending he basically just grabbed a wad of hair, cut it in a straight line, and called it a day. Somehow trimmers were also used between my forehead and my hairline which means it will take months for my bangs to grow out to the length of the rest of my hair. Wish I had better things to say as the team / vibe is really friendly but the haircuts themselves are pretty bad. read more

This was my second time coming here. First time the cut was great and paid $60. The second time I got a different guy. I asked for a mid-skin fade but, cut my hair way too high and didn't blend it properly. When I went to pay they charged me $80 and I still tipped the guy $10. This is the last time I will come here. Pricing is always changing and totally not worth it. My haircut should've been $40 for how he cut it. Moving forward I will learn to cut my own hair because barbers can't even blend but will charge you $80 for a wack cut. Lesson learned read more

Let's put it bluntly...this place is dope AF, and Avi is a boss. Went for my first fresh fade this morning, and I'm disappointed in myself for not giving this place a shot (/not taking a shot here) sooner. Mike gave me my cut this morning, and he was precise, personable, and (seems) super passionate about delivering great hair cuts and service. All the P's you're looking for in NYC as far as barber shops go...there are a few more that I'm personally after in life, but those aren't very yelp appropriate or relevant here. I've been here twice. Lev gave me a decent haircut. Faouzi gave me a haircut and a beard trim. Neither showed any experience or idea about how to cut wavy or curly hair. Faouzi ended up shaving off weeks of beard growth that I wanted to keep. He didn't understand what I wanted because he didn't bother taking time to listen when I tried to explain. He shaved off multiple weeks of beard growth. For whatever reason, he decided to bring my beard line down almost to my chin and give me nearly a pencil thin mustache. I have had a few outstanding haircuts from Avi, and followed him from another barber shop. 5 star haircuts for sure. It's a new store and they are still working out some of the kinks, which is why I don't put 5 stars for the whole experience. For example, one time it's a free hair wash, the next time I don't get offered one, so the 3rd time I wash my hair right before coming, but Avi insists on it being washed again, which I really didn't want to do since it was winter and my hair was already a little dry. There was another time when I paid online when I made my appointment, but when I was leaving Avi said he gave me a more expensive haircut, and that I needed to pay another $10. I'm not sure why, but that is what happened. But I am still going back, so that indicates that the haircut he gives is really good! I'm going to keep going back for sure, and hope to be able to revise my review upward. Another tip, if you pay in the store, it is cheaper than booking on the website. read more

I do not know how good Bonefade or Avi's work really is, but I do know their customer service is horrible. I had a beard trim scheduled and paid for with Avi in the late afternoon. Twenty minutes before my appointment, I get a call from the receptionist to tell me Avi isn't in today and they can't do my cut. I was shocked because my appt was confirmed and paid for. I even got a notification an hour before for the appt. Girl was super rude and actually laughed when I asked if I can be squeezed in with someone else. Wouldn't rely on this place if you need your cut done by a specific time. Liable to flake on you minutes before. Disappointing. read more

Late to getting this review up, but here it is: Finding a new place to get a great cut, and person I can trust to do a great job and make you feel at home, has always been a challenge for me. Taking a chance on some great word-of-mouth reviews from others at my work, I scheduled a haircut with Mark, and I am absolutely glad I did. I would highly recommend him to anyone. Explained that I needed a cut for a special occasion, and Mark did a fantastic job, took his time, and delivered a product that absolutely fit the bill for what I needed, for way less than I have paid at other high end places. All of that, with a shot of whiskey and some good family vibes, left me happy I took my coworker's suggestion. They had some good branded hair product that I'm going to pick up next time I through there, which will be soon for sure. I think my lady put it best: "Looks like you finally found your place."
