I also stopped by the shop and asked to talk to him (he was not there). He has offered to fire the person and/or compensate me with $60 + a free haircut if I change the review (photos attached). Giving me a bald spot for fun is way too unprofessional for me to consider changing the review. I have offered to point out the guy to Arthur, but I am not asking for the guy to be fired. One of these guys gave me a bald spot because he thought it was funny. He thought I didn't notice and gave me a fist bump with a slight smirk on his face after the haircut. After the haircut my girlfriend told me I was balding, and I instantly realized what happened. The hair grew back to normal in a few weeks. At least one of the guys working here is an unprofessional jerk, so l'd recommend going somewhere else.

And I had to drag him to get what I needed; paid $77 for a very unpleasant experience. Go somewhere else for your haircut in midtown.

I'm glad I booked an appointment and visited Tina Nikolle's Salon. Tina was phenomenal. She gave me an awesome haircut and also trimmed my beard so that I can attend the wedding reception with the best looks! She is very good at what she does and more importantly extremely nice and kind person. Once you interact with her you know how much she loves her job and cares for her customers. One tip to add: If you are visiting for the first time, you may have trouble locating the salon. It's right next to De Janeiro. You have to find a small door on the right side (facing De Janeiro) and then take the elevator to 17th Floor. Tina's Salon is in Suite 1702.

But most of those glowing reviews are pre-covid. I don't know if a lot of their stylists left but there's a notable lack of reviews post-covid. They're kind and the space feels lux and quiet. Problem is communication, went multiple times feeling very whelmed and changed stylist every time. After my third time I think I'm done, I've shown pictures and discussed with them what I wanted but they can never seem to get it right. Instead they default to a generic taper short off the sides and medium top cut, but then why tell me you can do the cut or even have experience with it? Is it my head shape? Face? Am I too ugly? Communicate that to me before you decide to just ignore the conversation we had and just free style. It's frustrating because I am growing out my hair for this cut and they do what they want. I don't want to be rude and stop you mid cut but then why am I paying so much just to be left unsatisfied? Most of the men leaving the place have the same exact cut. Anything longer than a short to medium cut is a no go, those cuts look clean and nice. Kept going in with shoulder length wavy hair just to get butchered every time.

One jackass who charges $100 for a haircut talked about how a real barber (such as himself of course) only does 4 haircuts an hour. Really 4 haircuts an hour? That's 15 minutes each, which after getting in and out of the chair and prepping and combing equals about 10 minutes. You might as well go to supercuts to get that sort of crap haircut. Which brings me to Jerry's! If you are in the city and want to spend 1/3 of what some hipster doofus barber will charge you then check out Jerry's! I used to go to Jerry's consistently when I first started working in midtown but started going to a place in jersey near where I lived at the time, though I still pop over once in a while. If you are in midtown and want a good haircut, this is the place (great if you work in midtown and the boss is giving you crap about your shaggy hair). Mostly older barbers who can do a variety of styles (though I doubt they do shaggy hipster/bieber cuts).They give a very thorough, careful haircut. Usually lasts at least 25 minutes, since they actually take their time and go over it more than once to make sure it is perfect. It is pricey around $30ish I believe, but hey, its in midtown. And of course they use a straight razor, and less importantly but still really cool, they have an ancient hand cranked hot towel machine! P.S. Its very difficult to find (buried in the basement) so ask for directions at one of the rock center info desks located at each entrance.

I used to live in the East Village and frequented Bonefade Barbers five years ago. Back then, the primary reason I stayed loyal was Mark, who always gave excellent haircuts. Even after moving out of state, I returned to Bonefade upon coming back to the area three months ago, expecting the same quality service. Unfortunately, everything had changed for the worse. First and foremost, the store was dirty and poorly maintained. The level of hygiene was unacceptable, and it made the entire experience uncomfortable. The quality of the haircuts has significantly declined, and the prices have become insane without justifiable improvements in service. The professionalism of the staff is severely lacking. I doubt that some of them even have proper barber licenses. During my last visit, I booked an appointment with one of the older staff members, Mike, through their website. However, upon arrival, I was informed that Mike wasn't there, and I was pushed to another barber who didn't understand the haircut I wanted. The result was a terrible experience, with more than half of my hair cut off incorrectly. Additionally, there were hidden fees that were not disclosed on the website. The price I was charged in-store was much higher than what was advertised online, which felt deceitful and unprofessional. The most alarming issue is the racist and selective behavior of the owner and staff. They openly target certain clients and visibly discriminate against black, Spanish, and Asian customers. During my visit, the owner and staff were drunk, and I heard racist remarks that were deeply offensive. This type of behavior is unacceptable and must be addressed immediately. My advice to all Asian students and adults is to avoid Bonefade Barbers, as they are clearly not welcome there. I strongly recommend finding another barbershop that respects and values all its customers. To all those using Yelp, I urge you to look elsewhere for your barbering needs. There are many other places where you can receive professional and respectful service. Here are some-- ACE of Cuts Barbers, East Village Barbershop, Manny's Barbershop, East 6th Street Barbershop, Second Avenue Barbers, and Neighborhood Barbers. Well, I didn't think spending hours in a barbershop was a good experience, and my suspicion was confirmed. To start off, I came in as a walk-in, so me waiting for a haircut was understandable. But waiting for nearly an hour and a half is abnormal! To add on, the barbershop is INFESTED with cockroaches. The critters are sprawling and crawling next to the chairs and even the mirrors! A couple cockroaches were dead and spread out throughout the shop. Finally, I chose the haircut and shave option. While getting the haircut and shave, I could not stop hearing a drunk man form whiting the shop. To my knowledge, this was the owner of the shop who I guess goes by the name ''Avi''. Wow...what a strange, annoying guy. He walks around the store yelling ultimate semitism claims and is a huge bother to the customers and even his own workers. To mention, he also does not bother to throw on a mask, and walks around maskless during this Omicron surge, which is extremely selfish. He is offering all customers alcohol, which is not a good look for new customers like myself when we see the owner himself is an alcoholic. If the owner is drunk, I have to assume his workers are too, but maybe there better at masking it. Finally, the haircut and shave was done. I was charged almost 80 dollars for a terrible haircut. I'm talking about below average. I think I could've done a better job, no kidding. My friends were texting and calling to see the results after I bragged I would be going for the expensive route this time. I turned OFF my phone so I could not get heckled by them. I covered up the terrible haircut with my hoodie and covered the shave with my mask and began to leave the store. I thought the experience was over, but the barber says ''Hey'' and then goes on to say, ''why no tip?''. I almost slapped the guy, but I stayed composed because I assumed he was either severely drunk or off some drug(s). If I could give 0 stars, I would, but that is not an option sadly. Where do I begin with this ''barbershop''. Well, to begin, it is very easy to notice he was drunk. I was in the chair, and you could notice the smell of alcohol. I was able to notice the smell because no one in the shop wears a mask. This shop always says it has the best safety guidelines, but I came home and worried if I had COVID. This was not my only experience while only being in the chair!!!!!!!!!!!! The shop always says the cut is ''not a haircut, but a lifestyle''. What kind of lifestyle do they live? The guy was so drunk he started screaming, and even making racist remarks!!!!!!! Then, it got even worse. These two random guys came in and talked to my barber offering him stolen items. Obviously the drunk guy accepted them, so who knows what goes on in this scandal. What kind of ''Positive Vibes'' is this, which this drunk guy says. Then I finally got out the chair. After I was done with the terrible, ugly haircut, I gave his assistant my card so she could charge my cut and shave. Instead of the original 30-40 dollars I was expecting, I got a notification from my bank saying I was charged nearly $85!!!! I checked my receipt after throwing it in my wallet and they decided to tip themselves. Never have I ever experienced this anywhere in New York. They tried to offer me some beer to get me drunk, so they could overcharge, but I knew something was up so I declined. Absolutely awful experience, and would not recommend. Stick to your regular barber please, or look for other barbers around the area. I'm sure they are way better than these idiots. read more

Bonefade Barbers, located in the heart of East Village, has been my home to get my haircut for over a year and a half now. Initially referred to by an old colleague of mine back in early 2018, I decided to give it a try. Needless to say, I've been returning ever since and always leave a happy customer! Run by Avi, the moment you walk into the door you are always greeted with warm welcomes by all of the staff. They really make an effort to get to know you as a person and always remember you when you arrive. While you wait, they offer you free water or beer which is a tremendous plus. They offer a wide range of services and cuts that fit to your need. You can find those on their website. Specifically, I have been getting my haircut by Tsira (listed as Irina D on the website) and she does a fantastic job! I prefer a traditional scissor cut and she always takes her time to focus on all aspects of my hair. Ever since I have been coming here, I always get complimented on how great my hair looks. The attention to detail not only by Tsira, but also from all of the barbers is what really separates this place compared to other barbershops. In fact, I live on the west side of Manhattan and always make the journey to East Village to visit BFB. In summary: Fantastic haircuts + inviting and fun atmosphere + tremendous and friendly barbers = the only barbershop I go to You guys should make it the only one too. read more

I have hopped around barber shops for a while looking for the right place to cut my hair and today was my first time at Bonfade and I have been 100% converted. Service at the door was immediate. Everyone was welcoming and warm. I was offered water and my jacket was taken to hang up. The music was lively and energetic but non intrusive. Furthermore, they treated my like family and when one of the guys went out for drinks and snacks for the rest, they asked if I wanted anything, and when I declined, still offered me a red bull gratis when he came back. Gary, (aka G) sat me down and asked what I wanted, listening carefully. After an analysis of my hair, he was upfront and explained that the last place I had cut my hair had messed it up so nothing was lying flat. He said he could give me my haircut, (blended sides long on the top) or he could fix it. I opted to fix it. Never have I walked out of a barbershop and immediately loved my haircut. That changed today. G did a phenomenal job, and worked quickly but took his time to make sure I received a quality haircut. I also make it a point not to buy product from barbershops EVER but I was so impressed by the speed, quality, and results from the work that I bought Bonefade's matte paste on recommendation. I came in today and got a fantastic cut from Avi. After five or six years of buzzing my hair, I decided I wanted a cut. The difficulty was that I had no idea how I should do it. I told Avi I didn't know anything about hair, and I trusted him to make me look good. Which he did. He gave me a nice classic short-on-sides / longer-on-top with a natural back (really smooth) & trimmed my beard down from a mountain-climber mask to cologne-model stubble. I've got pretty curly hair, which a lot of barbers in the past haven't known what to do with. Avi did. I'm really happy with the result. The shop was really friendly. When I came in, they offered me water or beer. The barbers and customers seemed tight, and they had some fun conversations going. After the cut, Avi gave me a back massage with this crazy vibrating glove thing. I don't know if I'm just way behind the times and every barber shop in NYC does this, but I thought it was awesome. At Avi's suggestion, I ended up getting a facial from Felicia, which was also really great. I'd recommend in a heartbeat. Everyone at the shop struck me as really professional, and Avi definitely knew his craft well. Easy five stars. read more

I normally go to a place in Midtown which does a good job, but not necessarily a great one (even after showing them pictures they never gave me what I wanted). Since I hate change and fear a new barber will be worse than the old one, it was difficult to look for a new place. While walking in the East Village I came across Bonefade, and Mark, one of the co-owners, happened to see me peering inside. He was attentive and patient, not pushy or aggressive like someone on a salespitch, and listened to my concerns. I took a chance and it paid off! I finally have the hairstyle I've wanted (he matched it exactly to the pictures), the interior has a cool vibe with swanky music (Sinatra, bossa nova, Top 40), and maybe best of all the haircut includes a massage, hot towel, water/beer/wine, and in-between now and your next haircut you get a free clean-up to make you look fresh and dynamic. The other barbers were friendly and hospitable and the staff was thoughtful as well. Can't recommend this place enough! Give them a chance; you'll be thrilled. read more

Came into the shop for a haircut and noticed the price they charge of $57 for a haircut and beard trim. The. Haircuts here are no difference than any other barbershop. The owner Avi smelled like alcohol and kept screaming at the top of his lungs across the shop. He offers you free shots of alcohol to get you buzzed and then tries to upswell you crappy creams and moisturizers. After a while I noticed from my chair that he over serves customers in the 1 hour they are thereand I'm wondering what will happen when a customer leaves drunk and gets behind the wheel. Many of my friends who are customers here have told me a lot of drinking and cocaine use goes on in this barbershop. After looking at Avi's face while he was giving me a haircut I could tell he was high on drugs. His eyes were huge. Didn't feel comfortable having someone in that condition cut my hair. Great barbershop! I moved to the city a few years ago and this was the 5th barbershop I tried back in 2018 and have only gone here since. I typically get my cut from Mike but have had cuts from the other barbers and they all do a great job. It is not an expensive place but its also not a $15 cut from a chain that gets you in and out in 5 mins. A typical cut takes 30 mins because they take their time and pay attention to detail, and for that the price is more reasonable than any other place i tried. They especially do a better job trimming and shaping up my beard than other places. Also, they offer a shot of vodka/whiskey, beer, water or coffee while you wait or while you get your cut and the environment is pretty chill. The coffee they get from next door is really good if you go in the morning and don't feel like drinking yet. read more

I love bonefade's products and their Energize mint tea tree cleanser is exceptional!! These past several months have been a real drag and I have missed this place, always delivering on a great experience and cut! their peppermint shave cream also is my staple, and have not had to use another product, nor will I , since I found theirs! I was surprised and so pumped when I got my order the same day ! Lucky me!, one of the owners, took the time to check out an incoming order, on his way home happened to be in the neighborhood and took it upon himself to get the products to me directly !! Toped all expectations, means a lot coming back from the void, I'll be back for the cut, the people and the products, for a lifestyle that absolutely can't be made by yourself ! I just moved back to the East Village last month and immediately was drawn to Bonefade. I am right on Tompkins Square, so the location is awesome! I easily made an appointment online and only waited a few minutes when I arrived. While I waited, I was offered a complimentary beverage, which was already enough for me to love this place. Mark cut my hair and did a great job! He is a cool guy and very nice. He even used an electric massager on my shoulders and gave me a hot neck shave. Felt great, looked great. Very chill place with great music playing. They also insisted I have another drink while my hair was still being cut. Topped the experience off with a great shampoo and rinse. Very hospitable group of people. I will definitely be going back for all my haircuts. Highly recommend!! read more

ASK FOR GARRY. Garry is the man! I spent a long time looking for a decent barber in BK and Manhattan and so many of them really don't care enough to listen to your hair. My hair grows quickly and I found that with other barbers my cut wouldn't look good in just a couple weeks. Garry pays attention to how my hair grows and it seems like he even styles it to compliment the shape of my face/head. He can do whatever style you want. I trust him so much that I just tell him to do whatever he wants when I get a cut! Whenever I get a cut from him it's really fresh and it grows so nicely that it still looks really good even when I don't have time cut it for 6-8 weeks. He's really skilled and cares about his craft and he's a super chill guy. I'd recommend him to anyone without question. read more

This is the best barber shop I've ever been a client of. I live in the building above this place and these guys keep the block lively and friendly. Ever since I got my first cut here (shoutout to Mark, he's a pro), I haven't even considered trying another barbershop. This is my go-to spot for as long as I'm in the east village... but even when I move neighborhoods I'll still make the trip back over here. They really treat you well, offering drinks and refreshments while you wait and during your haircut. And these guys give better quality cuts for more reasonable prices compared to other high-end barbers I've been to. Avi and Mark truly know how to run a successful business. Came in from Texas! My brother lives on the same block as Bonefade and every time we walk by, the shop owner greets us with a smile . Everyone is personable and ready to give you an amazing hair experience in a super cool, exquisite place! My brother came in for a cut. These talented guys trimmed and layered my long hair perfectly even though they are known as a barbershop! Multi-talented guys. I even received a complimentary facial afterwards by their sweet in-house beautician. These guys love what they do and love making you look and feel good! These guys are dedicated and passionate about their art form. I will definitely come back to this hot spot in the East Village! Bonefade saved my haircut! I got a haircut last week at another barber shop that I was really not pleased with, and I ended up going to Bonefade Barbers in the hope that they could fix it. My barber went above and beyond to fix my cut - it actually looks great now. I am so pleased that I went to Bonefade to get this haircut, and I am sure that it is the place that I will return to get it cut in the future. On another note, I feel like this is the barbershop I have always imagined when I thought of the classic "neighborhood barbershop". Walked in and got a haircut from Avi and he was drunk/on drugs. . It was probably one of the worst haircuts I ever received. Midway through the cut he offers me a shot of some nasty cheap liquor. I denied and he tried to hype me up to take one. Then towards the end of the haircut he tried to sell me crappy hair products. The vibe this barbershop gives off is just too uncomfortable. He seems to have a vulgar mouth as he speaks and screams across the shop. He also smelled like he took a few shots before I came in. I was very uncomfortable allowing him to hold scissors to my face while being intoxicated like that. Will not be returning. He needs to grow up and hit an AA meeting. read more

Giving ONLY five Stars for Bonefade Barbers in NYC would be an insult - on a five-star tiered rating system, it's not only a 10, but a wide-eyed, louder-than-hell, eye-opening 11! Yeah, amazing basically. Got it? The professionals at Bonefade are incredible: they treat you with respect, put you up on a pedestal, give you the best damn haircut in Manhattan. Seriously, I highly recommend them: their barbers are confident as hell, give you the sit-down-and-wait-to-be-mezmorized treatment - and boy oh boy, do they deliver. Think I'm over-stating things? These guys are great. I showed up a little on the late end and they still fit me in. I told Mark I had never found my 'favorite haircut' and I for sure have now. I've never seen anyone pay so much attention to detail and the results show how much they care about giving a good cut. Aside from the haircut itself, the interior is impressive and the whole place embodies the spirit of young entrepreneurship which I found refreshing. I've lived in NYC for 5 years and been waiting for a place like this that combines high quality at a reasonable price. Bonefade is the spot! As soon as I walked in the door I was treated like they've known me for years (it was my first time). The shop itself is super cool, luxurious and very gentleman like. The barbers are all friendly and their beautiful assistant is super sweet as well! They offered me complimentary beverages and the seating area was very comfortable. The haircut itself took about 30 minutes, and was on-point! After the cut they offered a complimentary shampoo and condition, as well as their very own hair grooming products, which I HIGHLY recommend! To summarize, Bonefade Barbers is the best around, end of story. read more

After reading some Google reviews, I decided to go in as soon as possible. I entered the barbershop and didn't have to wait long. When it was my turn with Ross, he was friendly right from the start. I showed him a few inspirational photos and he listened to what I wanted. The result was amazing (for context, I'm a woman with naturally curly hair). Ross was calm, welcoming, and instantly made me feel like I was in good hands. He took his time to even out all the uneven spots and fix the mess I'd made.
