Being that it was a beautiful, sunny spring afternoon and Cinco de Mayo, we thought it fitting to combine a bike ride with some margaritas. So, we ventured down the bike trail from Ankeny to Bondurant to try a restaurant we hadn't previously visited. It's a cute little spot in a strip mall off Highway 330, but we arrived on bikes via the back streets. We had the choice of the patio, the main seating area, or the bar. We chose the bar so we could watch all the activity. The place was about half full, but it was eerily quiet, so we jokingly asked where the mariachi band was. The hostess eventually turned on some music, but we could barely hear it, which left us feeling a little less festive. The service was a bit slow, even though they weren't very busy--especially considering what day it was. We actually witnessed some ladies leave after being ignored for too long. I'm not sure what was going on there. But one friendly waiter finally brought us a first round of margaritas ($7.59 on special) and some chips and salsa (complimentary). The margaritas were big and delicious! The chips were fresh, and the salsa--although bland, in my opinion--was fresh and good enough (I added some El Yucateco to spice mine up!). It took quite a while to get our order in, and I originally wanted the ceviche, but was sadly told they didn't have it. So I ordered the Chicken Street Tacos ($14.90), which arrived with just a few small onion slices and no cilantro. :( Kim opted for the Chicken Quesadilla appetizer ($10.59). Once the food arrived, we quickly understood why the ratings aren't all five stars. The quesadilla was super plain, and the chicken in both dishes lacked flavor and wasn't very tender. I had a side of pinto beans that were good but also lacked seasoning. The best things on my plate were the tortillas and the fried jalapeño. We opted for two more margaritas, and Kim switched it up to a Margarona ($12.99)! Like I said, the drinks were good, and our waiter warmed up a bit, adding a touch of personality to the evening. We left feeling full, yet a bit disappointed that we didn't discover the kind of Mexican food gem that would make it worth the travel in the future. I had heard many good things about this place from some family members and I was a little skeptical about eating Mexican cuisine while traveling. I was impressed by the quality of the cuts of chicken, cleanliness of the tables, speed of orders, and kindness of the workers here. I am so happy I stopped in for a bite to eat. First of all they serve quesadillas, but when I asked for a cheese crisp. They had no idea how to make it. That shoulda been the first red flag, but I was hopeful! I ordered the chicken fajitas and my brother had a chimichanga. The chicken fajitas were shredded into baby bite size bits, absolutely no flavor at all, and the veggies were way way over cooked! It's almost like they boiled the chicken and then put it on the flat top to get some coloring! My brothers chimichanga was extremely small and once again had no flavor at all. It really didn't even look like a chimichanga. Now I can speak about this because I live in Arizona and Mexican food is part of our weekly diet. After I had one bite of the fajitas I couldn't eat anymore and told the guy I can't do this please take my plate. When the bill came I was still charged for the chicken fajitas. I asked to have it removed and his reply was you had a bite, no! Plus he brought us extra sour cream and mozzarella cheese that we never touched but once again had to pay for! I would highly discourage anyone from ever going there and being robbed from the poor poor food. If you order it and dont like it you're still going to pay for it! First of all, the directions given by this app are incorrect. The restaurant is located north of Washington in the strip mall on Paine Street that faces Hubbell Avenue. I ordered a classic lime margarita and the Quesadillas de Los Altos. The margarita wasn't the color I was expecting and wasn't nearly as sweet as many others I've had. The alcohol was still there, though. The chips were not stale and the salsa, although not thick, was a bit spicier than most restaurant salsas I've had recently. The meal was presented beautifully. The rice and beans were presented on one plate and the two quesadillas and salad on another plate. Just looking at it I knew I'd ordered too much for lunch. The flavor from the quesadillas erupted in my mouth from the first bite. Overall, I give it 4/5 stars read more

Today is Taco Tuesday. I used their app to place our order. Placing the order, I used ApplePay which is super convenient! My order was ready in 15 minutes. 5 tacos, rice and beans. $8.25. That's crazy affordable! Then I added Nachos with cheese add beef. Delish. Right when I walked in the door, my order was ready. In and out, quick. Food was hot and fresh. The ground beef is almost like a paste though. Good flavor, the the texture is just off. I'll be back, for sure! I miss eating out! read more

last Friday my husband and I thought we would go out and treat ourselves at Los Altos.. well we are seniors going out to eat doesn't happen very often anymore. We spent 50$ My meal was very salty... I told them Three times and they would not offer to do anything about it, leaving me very frustrated. This has happened before, a couple times.. too many and it's to the point that we will not come back.. They should willing to make it right with customers emmidately otherwise they are going to lose business. Like ours... Lucky you Bondurant for the addition of an excellent restaurant! Menu is typical of any Mexican restaurant but the food is great. Service was a little slow but they were busy even though COVID is raging in Iowa. Ceviche did not have enough lime. Guac was good. Chorizo was not overly seasoned. Carnitas had excellent flavor. Tamales were very good as far as Mexican restaurants are concerned. We will go back. read more

My wife and I decided to order from this restaurant today. We very much enjoy Mexican food as our whole family is from Mexico. First of all the price was very good and in reality they could charge more considering the portion sizes given. However I found that while the cost and portions were good, the flavors and approach were very poor. The meat was cooked well however had little to no flavor for both of our dishes, the sides were a little confusing; while we had the expected beans, rice, lettuce, and avacado, we also had raw onions and bell peppers. Generally, these are caramelized but in these dishes they were raw and in my dishes case, out of place. It would have been much better to possibly throw these in with the meat to give it some flavor? The jalapenos were a very unexpected suprise and not in a good way. They were the canned, circular, bland, cheap, nacho jalapenos, instead of the sliced or whole ones we are accustom to. Finally there is the chips and salsa, which came with the meal, the chips were stale and thick and the salsa was thin and watery, devoid of any flavor. Finally, I will say that the food, while bland, was cooked well and a few improvements to the flavor, to include seasoning, will take this restaraunt a long ways. read more

We have chips and salsa at home so carry out chips and salsa goes in trash.
