This place is amazing, you have to check it out. This is my first experience with bonsai trees and Dave, the owner, was so friendly and helpful. You can tell he lives and breathes these trees and that made the experience so much more enjoyable. You don't just buy a tree and walk out, he's there for you to call with any questions and even does video calls if needed. One of the reasons why I use Yelp is to discover places like this. Bonsai House is run by a friendly elderly Asian couple in Westland. It's very easy to miss. I was looking for an actual storefront but this is a tiny house on N. Inkster Road with a tiny parking lot in the back. There are bonsai plants big and small as well as Asian pots and decorative figurines. The day I was there the shop was in a bit of disarray. I wonder how long this couple will be able to manage things on their own. It would be so sad to see a gem like this go. I highly recommended supporting this small business if you are looking to buy bonsai plants. read more

We love Bonsai House! The owners were really helpful in training up some bonsai newbies. They have plants from $10 to $1000 so lots of options. Indoor and outdoor plants. Very beautiful ceramic pots. If you don't expect a meticulous and manicured setting, you are going to leave with a happy heart and greater respect for this art form and the time and dedication it requires. They have plenty of "finished" specimens that are awaiting your care as well as "unfinished" but equally beautiful plants that are awaiting your personal touch and detail. To get here you might have to go through some sketchy territory but once you get there it is well worth it. The Chinese lady that works there is not always there because she has grand kids so you should still call but the hours are 11-6 Wednesday-Friday and 11-5 on Saturday. They are closed the other days. The very nice lady that works there will give you tons of advice and help and tips to help you pick the tree for you. When you buy a tree you get instructions on how to take care of it so no worries there. Awesome place. Lots of wicked looking trees. Definitely a hole in the wall. read more

GREAT place to visit and not only purchase bonsai, but learn as well. The owners are so nice and helpful as well. This is an old residence/house turned into a bonsai store-don't you love America? I've been buying here for quite a few years. If one of your trees dies, you can bring it back in for a discount on a new one. I have yet to need to do it, but totally trust the owners. The soil they use is perfect for home/indoors. A mix of multiple substrates-rock, soil, additives. Prices are the best I have seen in Michigan. They have anything from 25-1000 dollars. All sizes/ages. They will also assist with repotting when necessary for a very nominal fee. I have yet to do this either. My favorite bonsai place! A must visit. read more

Ever since I was a kid, my folks have always been cool about taking me places that are not only culturally diverse, but off the beaten path as well. I didn't spend alot of time in front of the tv or at mcdonalds and I'm better for it. One of the places I did spend alot of time is the bonsai house. This place is amazing. For those of you that get a kick out of seeing what kind of buisness people can conduct out of a shoebox sized house add this to your circuit. A very charming and sweet ol Chinese lady chills and clips trees all day( jealous?) and is happy to teach you of bonsai. From the history of it being Chinese not japanese, to what tree my dumbass no green thumb having self won't kill this time, she's more than willing to tell you all about anything she can. You can spend 5 bucks on a baby and bring it up yourself, or drop 5 stacks on a hundred year old tree that will make your peeps ooh and ahh more than a pile of bacon wrapped bacon at your dinner party. PLEASE check this spot out it's one of those indie type deals that we all know and love and could use a little more love. Call first to make sure she's open- one day during the week is for sure closed. I think Tuesday but not positive. Also in the summer there are more trees outside! read more

She took time to teach him the difference between each type of tree as well as how to care for each type of tree. Drove 45 minutes to come to this bonsai house. It was definitely worth it! They had a pretty good selection of young and old trees. Huge selection of different bonsai pots. The woman working was extremely helpful and friendly. She gave good advice about taking care of my tree. My boyfriend and I will be going back. The owner is lovely - she is willing to tell you anything you need to know about Bonsai. When you buy a plant from her, she gives you a care guide. Also, if you buy a bonsai that she has already potted - she will guarantee it. If you kill it - take it back and your next bonsai will be half price. I think that is more than generous.
