I used to take my dogs to this vet when I lived in the area. One of my friends that lives nearby recently rescued a cat. I called the vet asking about the cost to neuter. When I called, the receptionist was very odd. I asked about the average cost to neuter a cat and she said there's absolutely no way to tell without paying $75 for a consultation. I responded by saying, "That's a little weird, you don't know the price range for the procedure?" Only then did she let me know it costs $500-$1,000+. It felt gross to know that she (and/or the vet) is trying to squeeze money from potential and retuning clients instead of giving honest and upfront answers for the health of the pets that are possibly brought to them. This practice has changed for the worse since my pups were their clients. Their profit motive obviously surpasses their love of animals. read more

I can't say enough about this place! Got a puppy and he fell ill within a day of having him. Was able to get right in and they found he had giardia and parasite. Got him on treatment right away and within a couple hours, he was a puppy full of energy. What I thought was amazing was how they protected all the other animals by having us wait to go inside the building due to how contagious he could be. Brought us in through the back into an isolated room away from all other animals. I just randomly went to the plaza where Bonsall Pet Hospital is located to find donuts and coffee. And out of the corner of my eye, I see the vet clinic. I can't say enough wonderful things about about their services and their staff there. They are all super duper friendly and kind. They treat my toy Shih Tzu puppy like a little princess and she seems to love it there. My last visit they so sweetly dressed her up in an adorable little outfit and collar. It was so very sweet. In terms of their services everyone there is very friendly and competent. I love the vets and the staff. Try them out you won't be disappointed. I completely disagree with any of the negative reviews on this Vet clinic, especially when my experience was outstanding with no complaints. Your response is meaningless when your staff tells me the results are ready and the vet is too busy, but will call later. No call, repeatedly. The lack of compassion in your entire staff is disturbing, from the failure to answer your phones, refusal to return voice messages multiple times, lying to cover their lack of professionalism and empathy for people just trying to care for their beloved pets. On top of all of that you don't have the courtesy to call and discuss this with me privately, but post your meaningless excuses publicly further confirms your lack of professionalism and total lack of concern for your patients And their owners. If you look at the reviews, this place has gone downhill FAST in the last year or two. They are all about getting as much money out of you with no regard to what your pet needs for optimal health. I brought my Australian shepherd in because she was limping. They sedated her heavily for X-Rays, kept her for hours, then sent me home telling me the imaging was "inconclusive " and they would send them to there surgeon who would get back to me the following Monday (it was Friday). My dog was seemingly 100% fine the next day. I still continued to restrict her activity and give her the PAIN MEDS as directed by Bonsall Pet Hospital until Monday when they said they would give me the results of the imaging that they charged me $800 dollars for and had no idea what they saw on the imaging and deemed it "inconclusive " No one called me or tried to get a hold of me even though I called the office and told them she was fine and had no pain whatsoever. I waited all week and never heard back until 10 days after their bogus imaging before finally sending them an email that conveyed my disappointment in how they handled this. WALAH! That seemed to have prompted an email. They told me that I should keep her on the pain meds,(I discontinued them after two days since she had zero pain and was obviously 100% and the limp was just a minor injury that I overreacted to because I love my dog), and that she had an 80% chance of needing a TPLO,(dog knee surgery). This is incompetence at its highest level!! I will never bring my two dogs, or my mom's dog there again. This is an incompetent, greed driven vet office and I will be suing them for my $800 dollars to do X-rays that they could give me absolutely zero results From. I will just add that last year I took my two , very healthy dogs there for vaccines and left there $1000 dollars lighter after taking their advice on all kinds of tests they recommended. Went there one time because they were the only vet close that had availability ( I can see why they aren't booked up). The staff and Dr were very nice, but I wouldn't go back. They got me in the same day, had me get there early, waited an hour after the appointment. I complained once and was told the dr would be soon. Then I complained a second time saying I was just going to leave and then the Dr was in within a couple of minutes. Money gouging. Insisted on pain meds and other testing that was completely unnecessary. We paid the exam fee and just left. read more

Very poor office management with long wait times to see a vet (we had an appointment and waited for an hour) without updates or status by the Office Manager. When asked about further delays, the Office Manager became unprofessional with unnecessary confrontational remarks. We left after an hour leaving our lab specimens. We did not receive follow-up communication to reschedule an appointment or to report lab results. ln fact, we called later to make another appointment and were refused. The Office Manager stating there was a "communication issue". We were very disappointed as we liked our veterinarian. There are many good veterinarian services in Fallbrook where office managers are excellent. It's unfortunate there is this problem as they just lost the business of 3 dogs because of the Office Manager. read more

More recently, I contacted bonsall pet hospital to get my dog in for an emergency allergy shot prior to us moving as we would not be established with any vet care where we were going and she absolutely could not wait. I decided to call and try to get her an allergy shot last minute since we were established for her sake; not mine. I've been made extremely uncomfortable at this hospital by the rude and disrespectful staff but obviously it would not make a difference to my dog. She just needed care. Bonsall pet hospital told me that they would not receive my dog and give her an allergy shot - emergency or not - because of the review I left AND until I delete the review and recant my statement that the employees of this establishment are rude, unprofessional and argumentative - they would not provide her care. As a business owner myself in the pet industry! I am mortified. What PET hospital would deny an uncomfortable and relentlessly itchy downright MISERABLE animal care? Wonderful care provided for our two senior dogs. Giving a one-star rating to a medical facility for allegations of overcharging is a huge sign of ignorance. They do not overcharge, the price seen on the bill is not pocketed by the vet or the staff, it covers lab fees, medication, insurance, facilities, etc. They also offer 10% discount to military when most vets only offer 5%. The receptionists and techs are wonderful, extremely patient and very transparent and attentive, I have met all of them and they are equally welcoming. Every time that we come we see the same people, in comparison to our previous vet that seemed to be a revolving door of employees. Dr Allison is fabulous, we are completely confident in her knowledge and expertise. She cared for our 13 year old Lab Pit mix who has diabetes and glaucoma, Dr Allison treated her severe glaucoma with medication to take home and also a referral to an ophthalmologist that Dr Allison recommended and ultimately helped our girl get an expedited appointment with, due to the severity of her case. I called Bonsall animal hospital twice with questions about the care of our dog and within an hour Dr Allison returned my call and answered all of my questions. Eventually our dogs eye was removed and Dr Allison performed the operation, gave one on one discharge instructions, and was available for all concerns during our dog's recovery. Anyone complaining about vet techs or receptionists being short with them at this facility, clearly have never worked in a care facility. It is impossible to picture the present staff here being rude at all, and if they are, consider that maybe they just left a euthanasia room and said goodbye to an animal that they have cared for several years and now they have to slap on a smile for you and your crappy rat-dog. I've given Bonsall Pet Hospital the benefit of the doubt for 3 yrs until recently. We have a friendly vaccinated 2 year old dog who has been going to Bonsall Pet Hospital since she was 10 wks old. last week she went in for kennel cough and they refused to exam her in an exam room and insisted on doing the examination outside in the parking lot. We understand it's like the common cold and we're happy waiting in the car until an exam room opened up but this was hurtful and unnecessary. Here's my honest review: They are inconsistent, the staff is changing every 3-6 mths. And there's only one vet we trust as the others have misdiagnosed our 14 and 2 year old dogs too many times. read more

The desk staff and Vets are great but......there are multiple Vets. If you have an issue that requires multiple visits it's best to try and schedule with the same Vet. I have an old dog with cancer. He had lots of tests there (over $3k) over 4 months and saw 3 or 4 different Vets. On his last visit (Feb 2023) he saw a new to the practice Vet who told me he probably has a disease that we eliminated 2 tests back. He also told me to prepare since the dog had 6 to 12 months to live. I lost confidence and took him to San Marcos to an Internest. He's been on meds, being monitored and is thriving for the meanwhile. Also I have confidence in this Dr. The multiple Vet model does not work well if you have a sick pet. The continuity of care was always an issue and the professional quality of one reflects poorly on the others. read more

I've had a great experience so far with bonsall pet hospital! From scheduling to the exam and treatment, they have been professional, thorough, kind and empathetic. My cat (Loki), has some itchy skin and we have a good plan to clear up his dermatitis. I am bringing my puppy (Domino) back in a few weeks for a few vaccines/nutrition advice. Specifically what did I say that was abusive? Where's the receipts? You are lying because what you did was so horrible that the truth you can't handle. Let's hear from the receptionist and the vet tech that was in the room and witnessed your horrific behavior. I just literally had the most bizarre experience. Went in to get a check up and flea meds for my dog... The vet on duty insisted on giving me something other than what I wanted. He was agitated and aggressive. I wanted comfortis, which is a written prescription, he insisted on me having something they provided in office. I realized he obviously wanted to sell me something that I didn't want. I politely said, I'll take comfortis... Then his eyes got big and he flipped a switch and aggressively started saying that my dog has a severe allergy he needs this other medication, even though he never scratched the whole time we were in the office. Then he wouldn't leave the office that I was in, he kept being aggressive and I said have a nice day and he kept coming for me and coming from me coming for me. He was literally psychotic... then he said he's not going to treat my dog and that we have to leave I said OK. The whole time I was there I literally said one sentence worth of words and he nonstop talked. Because I questioned him he said I was basically saying he was incompetent, yet all I wanted was comfortis. also, when I googled the medication he wanted to give me he freaked out and said "oh you're not gonna trust me"? which I replied don't you want your clients to do their own research? in addition, I told him he's talking so loud that everyone can hear him and he said "I don't care".He was not happy about that. when I left one of the receptionist with the black hair was giving me dirty looks... Is everybody rude over there? Actually the lady that helped me initially was really nice and also the vet tech was really nice. Dr. Ferguson sold his amazing practice. He was THE BEST! But now, these new doctors that own it are into charging as much as possible for something that is not even why you brought your pet in for, in the first place. Or they want to charge as much as possible for unnecessary tests. Nov 2022 -Cat #1: She had a urinary tract infection (UTI). Dr. Killham came up with a multitude of tests that "needed" to be done. She couldn't just try one med, then if it didn't work, try the other one. (Which is what Dr. Ferguson used to do.) No, she had to do over $1,300 worth of tests. After the results, she gave us some meds. They didn't work. So she gave us the other type of med. They worked. (Why couldn't she have just tried both of those BEFORE charging us $1K + for tests - that apparently didn't matter anyway?) By the way (very important!) Our cat needed to get her vaccinations up to date. I said I wanted to wait until we conquered the UTI. They happily said, "Sure." Feb 2023- Cat #2: We have a really cool feral cat. He's been with us about 3 years. Took him to Dr. Ferguson in 2020 when we decided to let him live in the house. He did blood panel, gave him his vaccinations. Said that he had that cat aids thing and some bad teeth from years of living in the wild. Might live a year or two. But other than that, he was in great shape! Here is it 3 years later, our boy had a problem with his eye. I thought maybe he scratched it. Went back to Bonsall Pet Hospital again so he could be seen right away. Same doc comes in. Looks at his eye. Looks in his ears. Never takes his temperature. Goes into a long dissertation about all the terrible things it could be, and a multitude of tests should be done!! Leaves the room for 20 minutes to work up an estimate. The girl who always comes in to deliver the bad-news-estimates comes in. You guessed it, over $1,000. But NOT just for the eyes. No, they wanted to do a full ear work-up too. And, now that he's 3 years older, he suddenly needed a "senior" blood work-up. And, they wanted to do the same extra blood tests to confirm what Dr. Ferguson already did. Final kicker? He, just like our other cat, needed his vaccinations. I told her that I wanted to wait until we get the eye problem fixed because he has a low immune system (according to Dr. Ferguson's previous blood tests) and I don't want to overload him since he had a bad reaction last time. She told me to buy cat insurance. I told her that because of cat #1's age, we couldn't get it. And Cat #2's positive test for feline aids, he couldn't get it. She says THEY CAN'T TREAT HIM UNTIL WE GET THE VACCINATIONS DONE. It's their policy. But remember cat #1 didn't get hers and they were happy to treat her without getting it yet. They just make stuff up as they go along. They care about the bottom line and how much they need to charge each person to keep up their cash flow. We're so over it! As a final note, in Nov 2022 when I was in there with Cat #1, there was another lady in the waiting room, to whom I spoke with when the receptionist left the room. I said to her, "Oh my gosh! Dr. Ferguson NEVER charged these prices nor did anything unnecessary AND these people just get you to do all these unnecessary tests and meds!" She totally agreed! She said, "They want to charge me $3,000 for a procedure, and told me to go get pet insurance. So I did. And I'm back to have them give me a total with my pet insurance for the operation." So as you can see, they do the same thing with others. We're out of here. read more

Incompetence or neglect I don't know which but either way my cat is dead because of this office. I brought my cat in on Friday morning. They gave him the wrong diagnosis and sent him home to worsen over the weekend. The Veterinarian stated she checked his mouth twice; However if she had he would probably still be alive. Instead because he was crying in their office they said he'd be more comfortable at home and convinced me against my better judgment to pick him up. On Monday when he was brought back they said he was beyond their abilities and I took him to their partners office in Oceanside, where he was rushed to emergency surgery and did not survive the night. Multiple Veterinarians and Vets technicians told me after that the first thing to check for when a cat is vomiting is their mouth. When her boss asked her if she checked she said she did twice!!! Either she needs glasses or she was too lazy. Either way he's gone due to her incompetence. As thankful as I was to have a Veterinarian so close, I'll never be back and I'd highly recommend others to stay clear. read more

They remember his name when we come in, which really improves the customer service. They understand that both you and your pet may be anxious while there, but they take the time to examine your pet and do so with love. I was at peace of mind, knowing that Benji was receiving the best care possible! The staff + doctors are so friendly and patient. It means a lot that they're willing to explain everything so that I can understand what's going on, what needs to be done, what the medication/treatment would do, and explain everything on the bill (so that I can decide if there's things that aren't necessary at the moment to get). whoa!!! sarah the "receptionist" calls me to tell me i missed my appointment, which i did. i sincerely apologized and rescheduled. they told me when i made the appt that my dog may need a parvo shot or just rabies and they would let me know. when she called today i asked if he needed the parvo shot too? she said yes, well we will ask the dr. ok. so i say how many parvo shots does a puppy need ? she says 3 or maybe 4 but after 16 weeks - i say ok well is it 3 or 4 ? depends she says ok sarah help me out here - she then tells me my dog is 17 weeks and 6 days. i said no he turned 4 months 2 days ago. she said well our computer system adds how old he is. wow ok got it. i just did that complicated math in my head - i kept trying to make statements so i understood and she would add something else in making it seriously confusing. sarah should not attempt to convey policy to people ! she says can you hold ? she comes back and says "mam this is taking too long and you've asked too many questions." what !? really? i said wow i am so sorry i've exceeded my question time limit. and also wasted your time!! i asked for the owner dr houlihan to please call me and she said no. she said you can look up his e-mail. sarah needs to learn some manners, patience, and maybe practice explanations of simple concepts as to not turn them into non sensical confusing explanations. i will NEVER set foot in this place. i will also make sure i retell this lovely story to everyone i know. read more

I came in this morning as a walk-in for my lethargic, stumbling pug. I was terrified. The staff accommodated us as quickly as possible. Dr Ferguson did a thorough exam and spent about 25 min discussing my baby. He referred me to a neurologist and didn't charge me for the office call. I went on my way he called me on the road and he thought of something that made SO much sense. The fact that he could have easily charged me for a office visit for his and staff time and he additionally kept thinking about my pugs case he gave me a call and saved me a trip. I never leave reviews but I hope this helps someone if you are hesitant on seeing Dr Ferguson. Compassionate and very patient. read more

So, I am sure Dr. Ferguson offered those people who wrote wonderful reviews free or discounted care for their kind words. It's not beside him to do that. This man is absolutely horrible, and I couldn't recommend him less. During the years I brought my dog to see him, his staff always changed. That's a sign of a person being difficult to work with, paying crappy, or both. I saw him get into arguments with his staff in front of me. He was rarely ever there; and when we was, he seemed to care little about my dog. He cared more about the money. Point in case, the last time I brought my dog to him, he looked at his teeth, said, "Yes. he has Gingivitis," and then he charged me for an entire physical exam. Had he actually actually given my dog a physical exam, which includes checking his heartbeat, checking his ears, and other things, Dr. Ferguson would have been able to tell me that my dog had an enlarged heart. I would have been able to put him on heart pills, and my dog would have had an extra excuse to get one more treat every day. Unfortunately, because Dr, Ferguson cares more about money than the health of those animals that come to see him, another vet was not able to catch his enlarged heart until 6 months ago. I put him on his heart meds, which slowed down the process, but not enough. Soon, because of his enlarged heart, vessels and tubes began to detach from organs inside of him, and his body began to fill with fluid. I brought him to another vet to have his body drained, and then again he was drained the next week. After that second time that his body was drained, his new vet said his body was filling so fast, and draining him every week for him to fill up within a day or two would drastically lower his quality of life. So, the point is that because of the selfish, apathetic, greed of the most evil vet I have ever encountered, I had to put my dog to sleep last weekend. My dog is dead, and I blame Dr. Ferguson for his death.
