While it is easy to schedule appointments and drop off/pick up pets, my last couple of experiences left me disappointed. Toby came in for his teeth cleaning and chest x-rays to check the resolution of a lung contusion from six months ago. I reminded the front desk about the x-rays, but upon pick-up, I found out he only had his teeth cleaned. I was told the x-ray machine had been down for a couple days and this wasn't communicated to me. My dog gets anxious and doesn't do well crated. I scheduled multiple services under anesthesia to get clear images and minimize his time in a kennel. On a separate visit, I dropped him off at 8:30 a.m. for x-rays and picked him up at 3:30 p.m., a little too long for my liking. I also had to buy trazodone to keep him calm and sedated for clear images. I was further disappointed when I learned that a radiologist review would cost extra since they couldn't definitively tell me if the lung contusion had resolved. After my phone call I sent prior images for comparison since I was asked if I had the images and couldn't provide them while on the call but received no response. The lack of communication, added stress and costs, and unclear results left me frustrated. I will not continue with the wellness plan, while it gets your basics covered, I have had better experiences elsewhere. read more

She helps you decide what she recommends is best for you without you spending an arm leg. My mom went to drop off my dog for her appointment. She accidentally went to the wrong office and was 10 min late, tried to call multiple times and no one answered. The appointment was a 9:45AM drop off. When she arrived she was told that the appointment was in person and she was too late because the appointment was at 9:30 and refused service. I called to ask what happened and was met with disrespect and was told that because the receptionist changed the appointment time she can't see what it was actually scheduled for. She said she didn't understand my confusion because I was given an appointment for the next day so there was no reason for me to be frustrated. She refused to give me her name and she kept repeating "what do you want me to do, you have an appointment and I wasn't rude to her, she was late and it wasn't a drop off". Happy and thankful I got another appointment, don't appreciate the attitude when all I was doing was asking for clarification of why my mom got turned away. After my cat passed away (same day in office appointment) they required us to pay the full contract for the rest of the year on top of the $400+ fee for putting her down. Then required me to make a second and new account for my dog that wouldn't keep her past history in order to stop payment for my passed cat. Made an appointment at Banfield's for an International Health certificate for my girls. i live in Temecula. drove 1 hr to Oceanside on a foggy friday morning. Got into Banfield...filled a ton of paperwork even though all nfos had been provided by phone and again verbally at check-in...why do we even botherhaving computers... But that is not where lays my issue. After all of that, i am told i will be charged 2 exams instead of 3 since I a a new guy...great... Then i am told that each certificate is about $150....plus the eam...we are at $300. Bad news right ? Well then the lady proceeds to say there is handling and shipping fees for over $400 per cat...we are now at over $700 par cat...$2100+ quote for this little french trip... No way..no way...no way.... When I ask clarification on the $400...shipping and handling fees...I am like : "So you are shipping the cats to France for me right ??" Straight face..."No..this is for the paperwork.." Well guess what, I packed my cats, mad as a hornet for this blatant attempt at extortion..and ran home... Charging an exam is already a lot when all the relevant documentation on vaccines is provided..The rest is hubris...Shame on the crooks at Banfield's ! Dr. Friske always did above and beyond for our dog but I would give a 3/10 for a particular vet we saw a few months ago. At that time, I brought our dog in due to a freshly peeled paw pad. After showing pictures, the (unnamed) vet looked at her paw and said it didn't look that bad, even though it was clearly bloody and peeling. When the vet tech offered to clean it, this same vet said it wasn't necessary and proceeded to sell us on giving her expensive heartworm and flea preventives, as well as extensive dental cleaning. I politely declined, and upon coming home and looking at her chart, I saw that her "care plan" was not related to treating her paw pad but getting her started on those same services. In the end, I ended up having to cut our dog's peeling skin myself and rely on pet safe cleansing foams and balms we have here at home, as well as dog booties I had to buy from Amazon. Adding to our experience, I'd also like to add that despite our big dog having seen this (unnamed) vet before and showing no signs of aggression, they insisted on putting a muzzle on her -- our dog has been everywhere (including emergency vets) and this was the first time we've been asked this. In regards to a recent experience, we called in to have our dog seen. Our dog does not do well with drop offs and when I communicated this to the person at the desk, she said "Oh I didn't know that, let me see what I can do" and let us know they could fit us in as long as we made it there in 30 min. To our surprise, when we got there we were told that "fit us in" still meant drop off, which was confusing because based on our phone conversation it was clear she understood our preference. This small interaction wasted our time and stressed out our dog, and after taking her to another vet her charts with Banfield to this day still say she was "seen" on that day. read more

This "hospital" is 100% the worst company and money pit I have ever had to deal with. They make it seem like seeing your pet is a chore, they do a half ... job of examining your pet. They always, always make you wait at least 45 mins into the appointment time to pull back pets. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of an appointment? I'm not sure why they call it a hospital either, because they do not do same day appointments and if you try and schedule one they give you a ridiculous time frame of when you can pick your pet back up and/or drop off. The last time I went for my puppies last round of shots, when they gave her back to me she had dried piss all over her hind legs and stomach. The vet tech who brought her out didn't even bother to tell me or try to clean it off, I found out after I had put her in the back seat of my car. Not to forget, they have an online pet portal, where you have the ability to see when the next appointment, shots or medications are due, also how the exams went and what they found wrong/or need to address. And they do not use it. Once. They haven't touched the account since we set it up in August 2020. We have mentioned and asked several times if they wouldn't mind updating it, so we can keep track of our puppies growth. And they basically refuse. Because they don't even update the weight on the website. It has said that our 33lb puppy is 17lb since January. Highly sus. If they can't update a simple online portal, I'd be VERY interested to know what they do behind closed doors for their 2 hour appointments. Don't waste your time. Go literally anywhere else and you will have a better experience. A dog groomer in a van could probably do a better job of providing medical care to your dog. read more

Normally we don't go to Banfield or Thrive or Vetco facilities. Our almost year old pup was in originally today for check up & microchip. She struggles going to the vet due to not having the best first impression / experience at the vet in Fallbrook. They (at Fallbrook) refused to even put a finger on her, I had to hold and do all the restraining myself. My pup started barking at them when their tech came in the room as if she were greeting a child and not an already anxious dog, and if anyone is even somewhat aware of needs for a fearful/anxious dog that isn't how you approach them. At the end of our last visit for Fallbrook vet I was told my dog is aggressive and that she was 100% done with her vaccines (i theorize they just didn't want to see her again - only due to the comments made multiple times to my dog; im fully aware of being cautious around a fearful dogs and i personally work with them daily, I understand but with their field of work it was horrible to see) Fast forward to today, we had an appointment for our girl at the Banfield on College Blvd. They informed us she was in fact not done with one (PARVO!! SO IMPORTANT TOO!!!) So we got that updated and honestly I think my girl sensed she was in a better environment and they truly cared to meet her anxious needs. This place is horrible! The wellness plan they offer is a complete scam. The only thing it is good for is the first year of having a puppy. I had 2 dogs on this plan, and it had it for 5 years. Our oldest dog passed in August, and they are telling us we have to pay the remainder of the plan as he used all the services. The last appointment he went to was for a dental that he never had done because after bloodwork we learned he was dying. My husband and I have called 3 times to try and dispute this and each time they are telling us he used the entire plan. That makes no sense! I also ended up paying $600 out of pocket for that last visit for bloodwork and x-rays. Not to mention when I called to make an appointment the week prior, I told them that he seemed off and wasn't eating normally. They said they had an appointment available 10 days out! We lost Max before we even made it to that appointment. The vet that put him down called Banfield and made them aware of his passing. Tried to get my pets flea medicine renewed after our monthly vet sign up stopped. Couldn't afford to keep it up. Good thing my dog is healthy except for her allergy to fleas. They would not approve her flea medicine without an $$ office visit. Really just ordinary flea medicine. To top it off Jenissa at Banfield suggested an over the counter flea medicine First Shield Trio. Banfield is connected with the manufacturer of this product. It hurts animals. Look it up. Banfield has a class action lawsuit against them for this. She said they would approve the meds but then when the fax came though from Chewy they rejected it again. Called Jenissa back at Banfield. She completely denied getting the fax from Chewy and denied ever recommending the First Shield Trio. She must have looked it up. Banfield does not care about your pet. read more

Our dog Bailey was neutered here. He is quite a character...not to mention a hand full. The techs and veterinarian were very patient with my red heeler (that's his breed) after we picked him up he was still a little too excited so they prescribed him se meds and let me pick the amount so that it would last until his follow up. Clear instructions were given and paperwork was clear and not too hard to understand. Bailey had another appointment in 2 weeks for some shots! I have no problem paying for spay/neuter even if it ridiculously priced, I have a problem with being jerked around for extra appointments where I don't even see the vet so you can charge me an extra $85. Exactly what you'd expect from a place like this, very expensive, hidden fees, minimal services and offered at a very poor skill level. I am so grateful with how much they worked with me when I've gone I was in a rush with my two kids and puppy, so I forgot my wallet and luckily when I got there I found some cash in my car. I used to see Dr. Koch and was always very happy. Unfortunately he wasn't available and I had to see Dr.Love. Terrible experience. Dr. Love told me my dog will most likely die from salmonella, due to me feeding him a raw diet. I completely understand that not everyone is a fan of raw dog food,and that's okay!! But I was extremely disappointed by Dr. Love. Her comment was not only unprofessional, but also very uneducated! It is actually a bigger risk for us humans to get salmonella than for dogs! read more

BEWARE! I wouldn't even give Banfield a two-star rating if it wasn't for the fact that we liked the Banfield vet. HOWEVER, the Wellness Plan's fine print lists stipulations about canceling the plan that is not specific and detrimental to the consumer. I had received all of our dog Molly's records in February 2018 because I was canceling the plan and taking our dog to our other dog's (Max's) vet. One reason is we don't have to leave Molly caged all day for her exams like Banfield does. I was told the cancellation would be taken care of. It was not. Because I was told my Wellness Plan was cancelled I took Molly to Max's vet and incurred costs of $262 for her annual exam. I also had to make payments for the five months it wasn't cancelled, a total of $250. That's a grand total $512. Banfield would not reimburse any money that would not have occurred if my contract was cancelled like I was told it was. They would not stand behind or take any responsibility for their mistake. If I had to do it over again, I would NOT have signed up for their Wellness Plan and I advise all my friends not to do so. read more

Dr. DeMello, Dr. Love, and Dr. Koch have been wonderful with our dogs. One of our pups is very nervous, and when in pain, he does not want to be touched. They suggest he be muzzled, so I bring treats to hold through put the muzzle while muzzling him myself as he eats the treats. I appreciate that they don't simplify explanations and listen to my questions. Keep in mind that the Wellness Plans are annual contracts--always read contracts carefully to ensure they will work for you, compare contracts from different providers, and check into insurance--which may work out better for some. read more

The wait times are terrible, even when you have an appointment. Checking in takes 15-20 minutes. Then they notify the back that you're there and you wait another 15-20 minutes. You also spend another 10-15 minutes checking out. They told me they were going to run a test that takes 10 minutes, so we waited. 45 minutes later someone FINALLY stopped in to say "sorry about the wait - we're running that test now." By that point we had been there for at least 90 minutes total - most of that time spent just sitting and waiting on them. I was so furious I packed up my pet and left. Will never return. read more

While there was a small factor of miscommunication regarding costs for what Foxy needed when I initially called Banfield, the entire team was a dream to work with. I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Love!!!! She was sympathetic to my predicament of timing and what had occurred regarding costs. She was not only able to fit Foxy in for her much needed surgery, she was able to help the costs work out for me. I would give this banfield 0 stars if I could. Absolutely the rudest people you will encounter. I have an almost 7 year old cockapoo who has been prone to ear infections for most of his life. He currently has an ear infection in his ear and it's obviously bothering him. I just moved to the area and decided to take him to this location. What an unethical and disgusting team of people who claim to love animals and to be ethical in the treatment of animals. Upon arriving a very rude stuck up woman named Dr. Demello entered the room and immediately informed me that my dog has been labeled a biter and lunger and that they will be using a muzzle on him. First of all, she did not in any way acknowledge Oreo or try to make a connection with Oreo. Just immediately informed me that my dog was to be muzzled. Mind you we have never ever been treated that way before. I said absolutely not. I asked why it would be that he would need to be muzzled and she said I would get no apologizes from her and her team. How rude. I simply am asking you why on earth you would treat my boy like that. They did not flush his ear, and sent us away with a dog in even more pain. Every time Oreo has been to the vet with an ear infection they flush out his ear so at least he gets some relief and we have a clean ear to work with. But not this place! This place informed me that I could flush it at home on my own which is so much better than paying the $30 or $40 for them to do it. I brought him to you to make him better. It's your job. But they couldn't be bothered. I am appalled. I will never ever return. This vet had absolutely no compassion and is definitely in the wrong field. You should be ashamed of yourselves, if not for treating a worried mother this way, for sending a pup home still sick and in pain. read more

Amazing experience, our dog ate some plants in the backyard and got very sick. Being a Saturday afternoon my options were limited and after hearing such great things about Banfield from friends who live in the area I made the hour drive and it was the best decision I could have ever made. We were greeted right away and they took great care of cookie, Dr Demello gave us a great explanation of cookies issues and what needed to be done. A+ service all around and I would recommend anyone with a pet to go here and get the experience for yourself! My little Persian cat Rosie and I LOVE Dr. Love and the staff at the Banfield, located in the PetSmart on College Blvd in Oceanside. Anytime I have a question about a plant or why my cat is acting some way, all I do is call. I just called to see if a dandelion my cat ate was poisonous, they called me back and said "No" they made sure! Dr. Love and her staff always really look Rosie over and give her special treatment, along with everything she needs. I got her teeth cleaned in December and they really did a god job, sending her home to me just fine. I am a worry wart, and can drop by with her anytime. I'm so happy to have them there to answer questions on the weekends and up to at least 7 at night. Thank you Banfield! I am not a regular customer of Banfield but I just wanted to mention that Gabriel was so kind and professional when my dog unexpectedly passed away on a Saturday evening and my normal veterinarian's office was closed. Not knowing what to do, I called Banfield because they were the closest to my home. Gabriel was very sweet and told me I could bring my dog there even though they would be closing soon. He even offered to meet me outside in the parking lot and carry my dog in for me. He really helped me out in a time of shock and grief. I also later received a sweet sympathy card signed by the staff with my dogs paw print that I will always cherish. Thank you so much for this sweet gesture, it really meant a lot to me.
