I was so excited to try this place but was so badly disappointed in the food. I had the pulled chicken rasta pasta and my husband had the salmon. The total cost was over 40. Maybe it was because we got what was left over from the day, because it was a half hour before closing. But even if that were true.... there was barely any chicken, mostly bones. And it was so spicy, I couldnt taste the chicken. All it was, was burning my mouth. The pasta sauce was overspiced as well. My husband received a very small portion of trout. No rice was given, as it was supposed to be. I think maybe they were out of rice. So he was given a piece of cornbread, wrapped in plastic wrap. He gave it to me because i was so unhappy with my meal, I barely touched it. The cornbread was so oily, it fell apart when i took it out of the plastic. I got to taste the cabbage and cole slaw, those were ok. Cabbage was bland. I dont think we will go back and try again. Way too pricey for what we received. Let me tell you the short drive I had to get there and the food was incredible, let's dive right into. Jerk Chicken with Yams & Mac & cheese with a strawberry drink $21 (Lg I believe is what I ordered) Now I've never had Jerk Chicken before so this was a first and it was flavorful, great portion size, and a solid option. Tender fall off the bone meat, with a flavorful tag every bite. Now what I can say I am is a connoisseur of Mac & cheese and Yams and let me tell you. They did not disappoint, them yams and Mac & Cheese had me feeling as if I was back in Louisiana, with grandma back in the kitchen brought back some memories. My family and I ate at this restaurant for the first time, someone raved about it so we had to try ourselves. We ordered Salmon plate(yellow rice,candied yams, collard greens), smothered chicken plate and fried chicken plate. Honestly we were not impressed. It took almost an hour to get our food. The young lady that took our order was polite and nice. But the food was not that great. The yellow rice and peas & rice was not seasoned tasted very bland. My salmon was small and tasted over cooked, I ordered lemon butter salmon and it tasted like a regular piece of salmon with just a lemon thrown on top of it. The smothered chicken was not smothered, it just had some light gravy thrown on top of it and again lacked flavor. Fried chicken was not seasoned, Mac & cheese was more on a sweet side, it wasn't bad just wasnt your typical Mac & cheese. The candied yams was the best thing on my plate and actually we all ate on that. The collard greens were very good as well. The vibe in there was nice and music was fitting. I don't understand the low stars for this place. I did see the 11 reviews that were glowing but were "weeded out" by the algorithm... I drove by this place a few days ago and googled it. After reading the menu we decided to try it out. First off, the place is so cute and welcoming! Obviously family run which just adds to its charm. Everyone was so nice and patient as we looked at the menu and decided what we wanted. We got butter lemon salmon with white rice and a double order of Mac and cheese, curried goat with rice and beans and a double order of Mac and cheese, and an order of Rasta Pasta with jerk chicken. We bought it to take home for dinner and it was about an hour before we could sit down and eat. Even an hour later the salmon was amazing. Full of flavor, and not dry at all. The rice was fluffy and cooked perfectly. The Mac and cheese again, even an hour later tasted amazing. The curried goat was so good! Not too much heat which was good because my nine year old got to try it and really enjoyed it. She kept stealing chunks of meat off my plate. Man I don't know why it took me so long to come here! I called in an order for my husband and I, I got the large chicken curry with rice and peas, the cabbage, and Mac n cheese and my husband got the large jerk chicken with rice and peas, potato salad, and Mac n cheese. Straight up, the chicken was 8/10. The seasoning was definitely there, the chicken was moist, there was just a lot of bones in it and I kept biting into them. The Mac n cheese was also an 8/10, seasoned really well and baked! The rice and peas were a 10/10, especially with the curry sauce on it. The cabbage was just alright, personally I found it to be really watery and there wasn't much seasoning on it, 3/10. My husband came inside to pick up the food so I didn't get to see the inside of the restaurant but he said it looked clean and there was like 9 people who all came in after him.
